Opis:
Magnus, a novel from Sylvie Germain published in 2005, is a narration made up of several marks of hybridity – structural, generic and discursive hybridity. Those marks are not simply formal but emphasize the necessity of a true presence towards the world and others. The itinerary of the character is a spiritual one, and the novel reveals the part played by reading and writing in the reconsideration of our relationship towards the world and the other people.

Opis:
The interactive reading model deals with the capacity for reading in terms of text reception in a native language. In the article, we try to place the interactive reading model in the foreign language learning/teaching situation, assuming that mental operations carried out by a foreign language reader learner can be described as strategies of understanding. By showing the specific nature of such strategies and distinguishing a superior strategy (the one that controls the use of the others), we attempt to build a didactic model of text reception in a foreign language.

Reading and Meaning in Pascal Quignard’s work Pascal Quignard makes reading the very core of his work, drawing on his erudition to feed its content. It is not, however, to be viewed as a scholarly process to legitimize the construction of a discourse. For he is always wary of any construction of meaning and consistently exposes the illusion of Logos and reason. On the contrary, his work is aimed at deconstructing their hold on them. In La Suite des chats et des ânes, Quignard recounts the lecture given to Mireille Calle-Gruber’s students at the Sorbonne, in which he comments on the writing of his novel Les Solidarités mystérieuses. What we mean to do is follow this lesson in order to trace the meaning of the readings at work in writing.

How are the two literatures – the classic, the heritage, the scholarly versus the children’s literature, the overly easy editorial productions – much less opposed in reality than one might think? How can a real complementarity exist between literatures which will perhaps never be patrimonial but which can become school and the “great” literature? We will show how the reading of mythographic works seeks to design a teaching which makes the encounter with the book a triple opportunity for enrichment: to be moved, to escape, to learn. We will show how the reading of mythographic works seeks to design a teaching which makes the encounter with the book a triple opportunity for enrichment: to be moved, to escape, to learn. By taking into account the requirements of the time and the need for the school not to operate apart from opinions and practices, by a literature and a reading which accept to be useful for something, the French course must make sense by offering a new culture which is first and foremost a culture of oneself. It is first of all to show a living classical literature.

The paper analyses three works employing a similar narrative strategy which triggers tension between the explicable and inexplicable and an interpretative crisis that allows a fantastic reading of the fictional text. This strategy is related to the paradoxical status of the narrator, due to which the reader is faced with an incomplete elliptic account because of the former’s reluctance (or impossibility) to offer a definite interpretation of the events.

Adolescent dystopian literature has been in vogue recently. Its popularity reflects in fact several aspects, from readers’ preferences, through marketing rules, to writers’ choices. The predominance and reiteration of dystopian fiction suggests that they can involve stereotypes. Taking into consideration the fact that the stereotype is a reading construction, we analyse in this paper the role of stereotypes in perceiving and decoding a dystopian universe, with its elements, such as prison environment, oppressive authorities, tentative of revolt, and final victory or defeat, with respect of his young readers, in Jean-Claude Mourlevat’s novel Le Combat d’hiver.

Jaume Roig’s Espill constitutes one of the masterpieces in the history of Catalan literature. On the pages of the present article the attention will be put on one of its main thematic subjects, that is marriage, treated on the basis of a large perspective, whose goal will be to integrate the results of interdisciplinary analyses from the fields of anthropology, theology or cultural studies, in order to project an all-embracing view that will allow to configure the Spill’s signifiers polyhedron, which relies on its precious and singular textual ambiguity. In this frame and around the marriage’s core, the textual presence of sexuality marks, family relations and amor hereos will be analyzed in detail, for finally presenting a reading proposal of the main character’s matrimonial episodes from an exegetical sight.

What is the value of play for a reader when the literary text itself is radically conceived as a ludic device? The Ouvroir de Littérature Potentielle’s flagship product, Raymond Queneau’s Cent mille milliards de poèmes, a collection of combinatory poems, is an exemplary interrogation of reading, in view of the double problematic it raises: auctorial effacement and lectorial activity. The aim of this article is to pave the way for an epistemological re-qualification of the notion of humour, by approaching it as a (playful) practice of making sense, and more specifically here as an interpretative practice. Based on a dialectical conception of play, inherited from Kant’s “free play of the faculties”, it is intended as an opportunity for an unusual rapprochement between humour and literary reading. With the author’s ambivalent complicity, the reader’s own staging merges with the work’s semiosis.

Opis:
This study will attempt to underline the various forms and functions Pascal Quignard assigns to reading in his different texts. To begin with, we will consider the subtle distinctions and links he creates between silence reading, loneliness reading and wandering reading. In this respect, particular attention will be paid to the relationships which are woven between reading and loneliness in texts by this solitary and unusual author. In the second part the focus will be on the evolution of the concept of reading for the author of L’Homme aux trois lettres (2020), who is anxious to develop an “oceanic” work. Indeed literature as “an elusive prey”, according to the author, is not about sense, but about the senses. Finally we shall conclude that in Pascal Quignard’s works, which defy any oversimplifie characterization or classification as far as genres are concerned, reading appears above all as a sensual experiment which leads the reader to some sort of condition close to disappearing and annihilation, in the symbolic or even the mystic sense one can give these terms.

Play, in its many forms and categories, is a connecting thread running through Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt’s poetics. The aim of this article is to study the ludic modalities of reading practices represented in the writer-philosopher’s short stories. Analyses of the thematization of playing, game and reading experiences are conducted through the prism of theories of reception and play. The significant cases of readers with psychotic or (post)bovarian tendencies, experienced or beginners, reveal various effects and uses of ludic reading and its possible drifts. The practices of different types of readers in fabula, whether pathological or beneficial, are studied with the aim of identifying ludic and game devices of this novelistic art with a singular childhood spirit.

The author proposes to reflect on the role of language-dominant literary reading where the literary text can be approached as a linguistic object, an object of wonder and of self-expression. The first two roles are demonstrated in chapter 17 of the novel L’embrasure (2010) by the French-Swiss author D. Loup. The last role, self-expression, is the subject of the analysis of two collections of texts Et, si on faisait un livre ... (2019) and Amoureux des mots (2020), a joint writing project by the author and her students.

“The subjective […] surrounds the objective” This statement by G. Lanson (Lanson 1919: 113) seems to fit in perfectly with the line of argument of the present analysis, while remaining a valid indication for the university literature teacher in contemporary neo-philological studies. It should be noted that students often start learning French when they enter university. What is the place of literature studies, then? The choice is not obvious for teachers faced with the reserve of non-readers of literature, on the one hand, and the demands of academic excellence, on the other. In a socio-cultural context aimed primarily at the currently recognised horizontal dimension of knowledge, the question arises as to whether and to what extent it is possible to adopt a scientific reading perspective, such as that sought by neo-philological studies. It seems that the search for the personal engagement among FLE students, leading them to discover the similar experiences to their own that the fictional world presents, can be seen as a firs step towards the appreciation of literary foreign language studies.

The aim of the article is to present the theoretical foundations underlying our didactic work, part of the European project DECLAME’FLE, and its objectives. The proposed reflection concerns the possibility of developing reading practices in FL among readers who are learners of French as a foreign language. The chosen approach exploits the concept of so-called literary reading, oriented towards a theoretical-aesthetic analysis of the text. In the school context, this analysis and interpretation is usually done in dialogue with other readers. However, in the case of personal reading, the reader-learner chooses their texts freely and is not supervised in the activity. We argue that media resources can be an effectively used by learners in their reading and in the analytical and reflective tasks that follow. Based on observation categories from discourse analysis and with reference to research on literary reading, we propose exercises for (future) teachers of French as a foreign language. Their aim is to model the reading of journalist and popular critical discourse in order to draw information from it about the book, the author and the presence of the book in the public space, observe the discourse strategies used and integrate them, in order to be able to talk about reading experiences and make presentations of appreciation of texts.
