The issues of soil fertility preservation are relevant in all countries of the world. Concrete actions, technological and organisational solutions allowing to overcome this complex and continuous phenomenon by using exclusively agroengineering approaches are proposed. The preservation of the structure of agricultural soils requires urgent adoption of technological and organisational decisions in the following areas: maximum limitation of immobilisation of nitrogen in the soil after introduction of organic residues into the soil; development of technological methods and tools for the soil cultivation, aimed at loosening the surface layer of the soil with a minimum area of its contact with the airborne environment; improvement of the fundamentals of aggregation of agricultural machines, taking into account the maximum permissible slipping of wheeled energy facilities at the level of 15%, and a conceptual approach to their ballasting with respect to the requirements of the tire ecophilicity; application of a soil structure indicator when determining the ploughing frequency by means of ploughs with skimmers or their twotier analogs; wide practical application of the controlled traffic farming system; adoption of a legislative document on specific conformity of the land users for the level of soil fertility for agricultural purposes.

Opis:
Intensive use of the chernozem soils of Northern Kazakhstan since the development of virgin lands has led to soil erosion and loss of humus. Since 1954, according to researchers, 1.2 bln tons of organic matter have been irretrievably lost. During this period, the methods of tillage have changed significantly from surface to subsurface tillage, which led to a change in the method of accumulation of organic residues in the soil. The purpose of this study was the short-term monitoring of spring wheat cultivation technologies to observe their influence on crop productivity and soil agrocenosis. A virgin plot was used as a standard of soil fertility. Determination of nutrients in the soil was carried out by using the method of "wet chemistry" with spectrophotometric termination. An infrared analyzer was used to assess the grain quality. The identification of soil microorganisms was carried out on nutrient microbiological media, such as meat-and-peptone agar, starch-and-ammonia agar, and Czapek-Dox agar. The results of three-year studies showed that the humus content in the variants with permanent wheat decreased to 3.26–3.38%. The greatest decrease in humus content was observed in the two-field grain and fallow crop rotation (2.48%). The decrease in the amount of humus occurred as a result of insufficient intake of plant residues and mineral fertilizers. The content of nitrate nitrogen and mobile phosphorus in virgin soil is low. Soil micromycetes dominate on virgin lands, whereas ammonifiers and immobilizers dominate on cultivated soils. The high level of carbon dioxide emissions on virgin land (3.0 C2 kg/ha/hour) is due to the presence of a large amount of plant biomass. The most optimal variant out the considered technological backgrounds from the point of view of increasing yields up to 15.8 c/ha and preserving soil fertility (3.26% humus content) is the cultivation of permanent wheat with the introduction of fertilizers and herbicides. The use of two-field grain and fallow crop rotation leads to irreplaceable losses of organic matter (2.48%).

Bentonite has been recognized as a very good material for the improvement of coarse textured soils. In microplot experiment, of a sandy soil deprived of the humus layer was enriched in 1973 with waste bentonite at the rates of 0, 3, 6 and 12 kg m -2 . Until 2002, the microplots were planted with different crops and regularly enriched with mineral a nd organic fertili zers. Since 2003, the microplots were left barren. In 2009, determinations of several features of the soils (in 5-30, 30-55 and 55-80 cm layers) showed that the historical amendment of the sandy soil with bentonite (especially its highest dose) ensured significantly higher contents of water, organic C, clay, silt and a sand fraction with particle diameter <0.1 mm in 5-30 cm layer. Proportions of non-dispersible clay in the total clay of bentonite soils in the two upper soil layers were significantly lower than those of the control soil. A significant increase in the penetrometer resistance was observed in 40-58 cm layers of the control soil and the soil with 3 kg m -2 bentonite amendment, contrary to the soils with two highest bentonite doses.

The humus content in the soil is the most important factor affecting the yield of agricultural crops. The research of the impact of the soil cultivation methods upon the humus content is an urgent scientific and practical task of modern agriculture. This paper analyzed long-term (45 years) field experiments on the impact of ploughing, deep and shallow non-moldboard tillage upon the humus content in the chernozem soil of central Ukraine. The research materials reflect a broad picture of influence of the processing methods upon the accumulation of total humus. For example, with respect to ploughing with deep non-mouldboard cultivation, accumulation of the total humus in the 40th year of research, was +0.0028%; with shallow non-mouldboard cultivation it was +0.0005%.

The study presented here concentrates on the characteristics of the humous compounds of humic and fulvic acid fractions of ß-humus, originating from the typologically differentiated soils (podzolic soil and chernozem). The soils were chosen so as to emphasize differences between chemical structure and degree of aromatic nucleus condensation in the humous acids isolated from them. It was found that the structure of the humous substances isolated from the podzolic soil is characterised by the lowest degree of condensation of the aromatic nucleus and the lowest polymerisation, while the humous acids from the chernozem are characterised by the highest degree of condensation of the aromatic nucleus and the strongest polymerisation.

The effect of long-term mineral and organic-mineral fertilization on selected soil properties (pH, total humus and N, available phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron and manganese content) was studied in a stationary trail with tobacco monocropping system. The trial was established on Rendzic Leptosols in 1966. Five treatments were selected for this study, including control without fertilization (Check), nitrogen + phosphorus (NP), nitrogen + potassium (NK), nitrogen + phosphorus + potassium (NPK) and nitrogen + phosphorus + potassium + manure (NPK + manure). Soil samples at a depth of 0–25 cm were collected from all studied plots every year (2014, 2015 and 2016). The results indicated that maintaining humus content at the initial level is not possible through yearly mineral fertilizer application. Long-term mineral phosphorus fertilization increased 5.5–5.7 times available P2O5 in the soil compared to the initial level. The soil available K2O content in NK and NPK treatments increased, respectively, by 41.1% and 44.9% over the initial level. A remarkable increase in available phosphorus (25.5 times) and potassium (2.5 times) content in the soil compared with the initial level was found due to longterm NPK + manure fertilization. The NPK + manure treatment was found to be the most efficient management system in accumulating of total humus and N, available P2O5, K2O, Fe and Mn in a long-term fertilized Rendzic Leposol, under a tobacco monocropping system.

The article provides an assessment of soil fertility indicators of agricultural lands in the northern forest-steppe of the Republic of Bashkortostan within the Iglinsky region (Russian Federation). The content of humus, mobile phosphorus, exchangeable potassium, the thickness of the humus horizon, granulometric composition, morphological properties and soil washout were studied. It was revealed that the soil-forming process occurs on rocks of different ages and genesis, such as diluvial carbonate and carbonate-free clays and heavy loams, limestone eluvium, sandstone eluvium and alluvial deposits, which determine the diversity of the soil cover. In the study area, water erosion processes are developing, influenced by anthropogenic and natural factors such as planar and linear washout on slopes with a steepness of more than 2-3° and high ploughing of agricultural land. In terms of humus content, low-humus and medium-humus soils are widespread, accounting for 45.5 and 40%, respectively. The soil map was corrected and digitised to identify the main types and subtypes of soils, indicating the varieties at a scale of 1: 25,000. Digitised maps, taking into account the current state of soil fertility, are used to develop projects for inter-farm and intra-farm land management of organisations of the agro-industrial complex, state cadastral valuation of agricultural land, determination of land tax and development of measures to improve soil fertility.

Opis:
Binding heavy metals by humus compounds decreases these elements availability to plants, their leaching from soil and causes their partial detoxication. Organic matter supplied to the soil with composts may significantly affect heavy metal availability to plants, therefore the investigations conducted on the basis of a two-year pot experiment aimed at determining the effect of fertilization with composts prepared from plant and other biodegradable wastes and from mixed municipal wastes on zinc, cadmium and lead binding by soil humus. In order to compare the analyzed features, the treatments on which swine manure and nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in mineral forms were applied, were used. The contents of Zn, Cd and Pb in combination with humus compounds were extracted from the soil by means of 0.025 mol dm–3 NH4EDTA solution using sequential chemical extraction developed by Zeien and Brümmer. In the obtained extracts the contents of Zn, Cd and Pb were assessed using the ICP-AES method. Significantly lower acidification was assessed in the soil fertilized with manure and composts than in the soil with a supplement of mineral salts or in unfertilized soil, both after the first and second year of the experiment. Compost fertilization caused an increase in organic carbon content in soil in comparison with organic C assessed in the soil with added mineral salts. The highest total contents of Zn and Pb were determined in the soil with an admixture of municipal waste compost. The contents of lead and zinc bound to humus compounds revealed a positive relationship with organic carbon content and were the highest in the soil receiving organic materials. The biggest contents of cadmium total forms after the first year of the research were assessed in the soil of treatments where the composts and swine manure were used, whereas after the second year contents of Cd in soil did not differ significantly depending on the applied fertilization. An admixture of manure or composts to the soil did not affect significantly the changes of cadmium contents in the combinations with humus compounds.
Nawożenie kompostami spowodowało zwiększenie zawartości węgla organicznego w glebie w porównaniu do zawartości C organicznego oznaczonej w glebie z dodatkiem soli mineralnych. Największe ogólne zawartości Zn i Pb oznaczono w glebie z dodatkiem kompostu z niesegregowanych odpadów komunalnych. Zawartości ołowiu i cynku związane ze związkami próchnicznymi wykazywały dodatnią zależność z zawartością węgla organicznego i były największe w glebie z dodatkiem materiałów organicznych.

The aim of the present research work was to evaluate the influence of lithogenic conditions on the physico-chemical properties, quantity and quality of humus components in the black earths from the Małopolska Upland. Soil samples were collected from 5 soil profiles which represented proper black earth (profiles No. 1-4) and degraded black earth (profile No. 5). All the investigated soils were under sward. The examined black earths were characterised by different physico-chemical properties strongly related to the parent rock type. Their pH level and sorption capability were decreasing with a decrease in the clay content of the soil texture. Humus resources were the lowest in sandy black earths (average 212 t ha-1) and the highest in the black earh derived from clay (454 t ha1). In the humus composition of the examined black earths, humic acids dominated over fulvic acids. In the A horizons, the Ch:Cf ratio was close to 1, and lower in the upper parts of these horizons which is typical of turf soils. Humus horizons in some of the investigated black earths were classified as epipedon anthropoid according to phosphorus content soluble in 1% citric acid (109 P kg-1 soil).
