Opis:
Hybrid electrical power systems consisting of a combination fossil fuels powered generators and renewable energy sources in standalone grid-off configurations are gaining prominence in remote communities where grid extension are difficult and often very costly. This paper focuses on the design of a hybrid power system in an outback community of South Australia - Oodnadatta. An optimal standalone hybrid power system comprising photovoltaics, diesel and propane is proposed with the lowest levelised Cost of Electricity (COE) with at least 10% solar contribution. The proposed hybrid system is designed with the HOMER software utilising average daily solar radiation values for the years 2007-2009 and estimated power consumption data. The existing conventional power system in Oodnadatta is also modelled to compare and contrast with the proposed hybrid system to assess its impact on COE and greenhouse gas emissions.

The aim of this study is to demonstrate the validity of the thesis that in Indonesia one can find institutions that characterize two power-sharing models which are considered opposites of one another in political theory – centripetalism and consociationalism. In consequence, the Indonesian power-sharing system should be viewed as a hybrid, or mixed, system, and not a typically centripetal system as is usually the case in the literature. At the beginning of this article, a short analysis of Indonesia's political situation is given for the purpose of defining the factors which determined the introduction of inter-segmental power-sharing solutions in that country. This is followed by a description of the specificity of consociationalism and centripetalism. The article goes on to discuss specific institutions of both power-sharing models which exist in Indonesia and ends with some concluding remarks on the thesis advanced at the outset.

This paper introduces a mixed integer non-linear mathematical model for a simulation of a hybrid energy source consisting of photovoltaics (PV), wind turbines (WT) and pumped storage hydroelectricity (PSH). The concept of PV–WT–PSH has been well described and evaluated for sparsely populated or remote areas such as islands. Here, due to the rapid development of renewable energy sources and most importantly the variable (non-dispatchable) energy sources such as wind and solar, the idea of wind and solar powered PSHs has been investigated in the context of the national energy system. The economic and environmental impact of the proposed hybrid has been assessed. The results reveal that to cover almost 40% of the energy demand one should expect the energy cost to increase by 25%.

Opis:
In recent years, interest has grown in Poland in the installation of renewable energy sources (RES), including small standalone hybrid power plants aiming at full independence of energy supply from the power grid. A hybrid power plant consists of renewable energy sources, such as a solar and/or wind power plant, an energy storage facility providing the system’s autonomy, a discharge load for surplus energy in the system, and an emergency power supply. The power plant is equipped with an energy management system. Power plant parameters are tailored to meet the requirements of continuity of supply, cost minimization, return on investment period, and system capacity utilization. The paper presents a methodology for selecting power plant parameters with a larger number of decision criteria. The task is solved as a single-criterion optimization task with a weighted quality indicator. The user priority reflecting indicator weights were determined using the multi-criteria hierarchical method for analysing decision problems, in other words the Saaty’s analytic hierarchy process (AHP). The climatic data typical for Polish territory and the energy needs of a selected household were selected for the study.

Opis:
Many parts of remote locations in the world are not electrified even in this Advanced Technology Era. To provide electricity in such remote places renewable hybrid energy systems are very much suitable. In this paper PV/Wind/Battery Hybrid Power System (HPS) is considered to provide an economical and sustainable power to a remote load. HPS can supply the maximum power to the load at a particular operating point which is generally called as Maximum Power Point (MPP). Fuzzy Logic based MPPT (FLMPPT) control method has been implemented for both Solar and Wind Power Systems. FLMPPT control technique is implemented to generate the optimal reference voltage for the first stage of DC-DC Boost converter in both the PV and Wind energy system. The HPS is tested with variable solar irradiation, temperature, and wind speed. The FLMPPT method is compared with P&O MPPT method. The proposed method provides a good maximum power operation of the hybrid system at all operating conditions. In order to combine both sources, the DC bus voltage is made constant by employing PI Controllers for the second stage of DC-DC Buck-Boost converter in both Solar and Wind Power Systems. Battery Bank is used to store excess power from Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and to provide continuous power to load when the RES power is less than load power. A SPWM inverter is designed to convert DC power into AC to supply three phase load. An LC filter is also used at the output of inverter to get sinusoidal current from the PWM inverter. The entire system was modeled and simulated in Matlab/Simulink Environment. The results presented show the validation of the HPS design.

To confront climate change, decarbonization strategies must change the global economy. According to statements made as part of the European Green Deal, maritime transport should also become drastically less polluting. As a result, the price of transport must reflect the impact it has on the environment and on health. In such a framework, the purpose of this paper is to suggest a novel method for minimizing emissions from ships, based on so-called Pareto multi-objective optimization. For a given voyage by a ship, the problem is to minimize emissions on the one hand and minimize fuel consumption or passage time on the other. Minimizing emissions is considered as the preferred objective. Therefore, the objective of minimizing fuel consumption or passage time needs to be reformulated as a constraint. Solving such a problem consists of finding most favourable path and speed for the ship and satisfying the optimization criteria. Relatively new systems such as hybrid diesel–electric systems have the potential to offer significant emissions benefits. A hybrid power supply utilizes the maximum efficiency of the direct mechanical drive and the flexibility of a combination of combustion power from the prime mover and stored power from energy storage from an electrical supply, at part load and overload. A new report by the American Bureau of Shipping suggests that maritime transport is likely to meet the International Maritime Organization’s target by 2030, solely by using current technology and operational measures. However, this would not be enough to attain the target of reducing CO2 emissions by 2050 by at least 50% compared to 2008. New technologies and operational methods must be applied.

Travel is an inseparable part of human life. It is connected not only with private life but also with business life. People want to travel more, farther and faster. That is why air transport is currently one of the fastest-growing areas of passenger transport, and airlines carry more and more passengers from year to year. Due to the growing negative impact of air transport on the natural environment, research aimed at the development of technologies to reduce the negative impact of air transport is becoming more and more important. One of the possibilities for improving the situation is the use of alternative energy sources, limiting the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The paper aimed to analyze the meaningfulness of replacing the classic power unit in a light transport aircraft with a hybrid, combustion-electric power unit. Analyzes were made with the use of simulation methods for the PZL M-28 aircraft.

Opis:
A power split hybrid electric vehicle with dual planetary gear sets is studied in this paper. Firstly, the power split and circulation phenomenon are further described by analyzing a speed and torque relationship between the engine, motors and the output shaft based on the lever analogy. The transmission efficiency and the electric power ratio are then obtained. The working modes of the hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) are divided according to the system operation mechanism. On this basis, the engine optimal operating line (OOL) control strategy and the mechanical point (MP) control strategy are designed. Furthermore, a fuzzy controller is designed to realize the optimal torque distribution of the engine and the motors in the MP control strategy. Simulation results demonstrate that the MP control strategy can guarantee a higher efficiency of the transmission system, which also shows good performance in improving fuel economy of the HEV by adjusting the engine operating point.

Hydrogen-based power engineering has great potential for upgrading present and future structures of heat and electricity generation and for decarbonizing industrial technologies. The production of hydrogen and its optimal utilization in the economy and transport for the achievement of ecological and economic goals requires a wide discussion of many technological and operational – related issues as well as intensive scientific research. The introductory section of the paper indicates the main functions of hydrogen in the decarbonization of power energy generation and industrial processes, and discusses selected assumptions and conditions for the implementation of development scenarios outlined by the Hydrogen Council, 2017 and IEA, 2019. The first scenario assumes an 18% share of hydrogen in final energy consumption in 2050 and the elimination 6 Gt of carbon dioxide emissions per year. The second document was prepared in connection with the G20 summit in Japan. It presents the current state of hydrogen technology development and outlines the scenario of their development and significance, in particular until 2030. The second part of the paper presents a description of main hybrid Power-to-Power, Power-to-Gas and Power-to-Liquid technological structures with the electrolytic production of hydrogen from renewable sources. General technological diagrams of the use of water and carbon dioxide coelectrolysis in the production of fuels using F-T synthesis and the methanol production scheme are presented. Methods of integration of renewable energy with electrolytic hydrogen production technologies are indicated, and reliability indicators used in the selection of the principal modules of hybrid systems are discussed. A more detailed description is presented of the optimal method of obtaining a direct coupling of photovoltaic (PV) panels with electrolyzers.

This paper describes the conception of an individual personal transport vehicle. The conception of the vehicle is based on a mechanical structure of a bike and on a pneumatic engine as equipment of power support. The research was done as an analysis of existing vehicles with main or supporting gas power systems. In the research the expectations of users, technical resources as well as known constructions were taken into account. At the beginning, the technical properties of known methods and modern vehicles available for individual personal transport of people were reviewed. Next, some vehicles which can meet economic, ecologic and environmental criteria were identified. Finally, the authors proposed usage of extremely small and light-weight vehicles. It appears that the smallest, lightest and most economic construction of vehicles should be modeled on the bike. For power convenience on uphill roads compressed air as a supporting power factor was proposed. It also implied the possibility to use supporting power system as main power engine. However, the economic storage and management of compressed gas required optimization system of gas usage. This optimization depends on pulse wide modulation of air valve flow and possibility of air compression. Air compression is possible by driving downhill or on fixed vehicle by human muscle power. Those circumstances warrant to name such power system a hybrid pneumatic propulsion.

This paper describes a Fuzzy Logic approach to Shunt Active power filter (SAPF) versus Hybrid Active Power Filter (HAPF) using Simulink. Here hysteresis controlled PWM method is applied to the SAPF and HAPF as a current controller and Fuzzy logic controller as a inverter dc voltage controller. To reduce harmonics, Shunt Active Power Filters (SAPFs) are used with various control schemes, but Hybrid Active power filter is a power electronic device which has both the characteristics of passive power filters and active power filters, which helps in cancelation of the harmonics by producing compensating signal. The fuzzy-hysteresis controller is designed and its simulation results are presented for both the filter types, showing acceptable THD results for the word length used in the fixed-point computations involved in the switching sequence generation. The results of the above controller are compared with the Indirect current controller.
