Opis:
The novelty/value added of this paper is the comparison of the Epps effect between developed and emerging stock markets from Central Europe by means of the correction formula derived by the authors. The main goal of the study is to test whether or not asynchrony in transaction times is a considerable source of the Epps effect in the case of the Warsaw and Vienna stock exchanges for the most-liquid assets from these markets. Among all analyzed stock pairs on the WSE, asynchrony turns out to be the main cause of the Epps effect. However, the corrected correlation estimator seems to be more volatile than the regular estimator of the correlation. In the case of the VSE, evidence of the Epps effect is not unique. For the most-liquid and most-correlated pair (namely, ANDR-EBS), the analysis delivers similar results as for Polish stocks. However, the Epps effect could not be detected for the remaining pairs on the VSE. The presented analysis can be reproduced for the same data or replicated for another dataset; all R codes used in the computation within this paper are available upon request.

Opis:
Now, a network operator must choose between two packet switched technologies for providing QoS in WAN networks, which are ATM and IP QoS [3, 4, 9]. As ATM has reached the maturity with capabilities for offering a number of different network services (i.e. CBR, VBR, ABR, UBR, GFR), the IP QoS with network services like expedited forwarding, assured forwarding, etc. is still at developing phase but never-theless is commonly regarded as capable to guarantee in near future similar QoS level as ATM. This paper tries to compare the efficiency of the mentioned technologies (in case of IP QoS network the AQUILA network concept [1, 2] is investigated) for handling traffic generated by LANs with QoS differentiation. This is extremely required since the applications running in LAN differ in QoS requirements and emitted traffic profiles (streaming, elastic). Therefore, a classification process of outgoing LAN traffic into predefined sub-streams should be performed at the entry point to WAN network (edge ATM switch or IP router). Furthermore, particular sub-streams are submitted to adequate WAN network service, available in ATM or IP QoS. The paper presents the experimental results, measured in the test bed, corresponding to QoS level and QoS differentiation provided by ATM and IP QoS core. For this purpose, a set of representative applications currently available to a LAN user was selected demanding from the core different QoS level. They correspond to streaming applications like VoIP with QoS objectives represented mainly by packet delay characteristics and elastic applications controlled by TCP protocol with minimum guaranteed through-put/goodput as target.

To explore possibilities to reduce the impact of failure on the function of the machine is a winding node connected to zero point. Under open phase fault it is another possibility to improve behavior of the two-phase operation. There is still to apply a circular rotating magnetic field to the machine by imposing a 60o phase shift between the stator currents of the two supplied stator windings.

Sensor interfaces should provide an output signal that can be read out by a microcontroller. This paper shows, that besides digital output signals also time-modulated signals are suited to be read out by microcontrollers. It is shown, that the attractive features of time-modulated signals concern the simplicity of the circuits and the flexibility of the signal processing. It is shown that precision interface chips can be implemented with low-cost CMOS technology. To make the interface chips universal, specific physical problems for typical applications and measurements have been taken into account. Interface chips in which dedicated measurement techniques have been applied, including autocalibration, two-port measurement and advanced chopping, can be very users friendly. Moreover, these techniques enable selective detection of the measurand with a high immunity for parasitic effects of the sensing elements, and for the effects of the connecting wires. As case studies, interface systems have been presented for capacitive sensors, resistive-bridge sensors.

When handling materials in space it is required that the materials to be hoisted should be stabilised and their position precisely controlled. Attempts are made to minimise the dynamic loading during the start-up and braking phase and to reduce vibration of the material being handled, at the same time ensuring the minimal time of operation. When the admissible value of positioning and levelling errors are very small, some effective methods of drive control are required. This study investigates an asymmetrically loaded platform suspended on ropes and people moving with respect to it during the hoisting phase. The positioning and levelling errors are minimised by controlling voltage fluctuations of the current supplying asynchronous induction motors. The proposed solution uses an optimal LQR controller. Both free and forced vibrations of the platform are low-frequency vibrations, so the scalar method of controlling the output voltages are recommendable, where feedback loops in the electro-magnetic part of the system are neglected. The losses and time delays associated with modulation of the velocity characteristics of the induction motor being omitted, the optimal control strategy of frequency control is developed to effectively handle the control plant. Opis:
Physiotherapy, as a constantly evolving discipline, requires professionals to continually update their knowledge base to enhance patient care. To facilitate this growth, lifelong learning through supplementary educational courses plays a crucial role. The flexible online education has opened new opportunities for adult learners, including physiotherapists, to pursue further education while managing their daily commitments. This paper examines the conceptual framework of online learning in the context of physiotherapy education. It explores the advantages and disadvantages of online courses compared to traditional classroom methods. Online education is classified into three primary types: synchronous, asynchronous, and blended or hybrid courses. Synchronous courses involve real-time interaction with teachers, while asynchronous courses allow learners to access materials at their own convenience. Blended or hybrid courses combine online learning with face-to-face instruction. Advantages of online courses include accessibility, flexibility, cost-effectiveness, diverse learning resources, and the opportunity to build a global professional network. On the other hand, online courses lack continuous communication and interaction between teachers and learners, potentially hindering the learning experience. Learners must possess strong digital skills and self-study capabilities to succeed in online education. The study concludes that the choice between traditional and online education depends on specific course objectives and participant expectations. Regardless of the mode of education, the active participation and engagement of learners are crucial for professional success. As the field of physiotherapy education continues to evolve, ongoing research and innovation are vital to improve the overall learning experience and ensure optimal outcomes for lifelong learners in the healthcare field.

In this paper, the diagnosis of faults in squirrel cage asynchronous motor and experimental analysis process are presented. Currently there are several simulation tools, that lets users analyze and interpret the behavior of their devices. Based on this, there is a lot of researches that is working on developing models, to detect and classify 3-phase asynchronous motor faults, significantly in the early stages. This work proposed design and experimental analysis established in Comsol Multiphysics 6.0 , which implements finite element analysis software (FEM) for detecting and diagnosing broken bar rotors of this types motors and its practical application. In this case, the post processor of the COMSOL-Multiphysics makes it possible to visualize in 2D the various magnetic and mechanical quantities. Through the curves of the magnetic flux density and analysis distribution of the field with magnetic induction lines, we can draw some conclusions, where we proposed an strategy, for detecting and diagnosing faults consistent with the structure of the software.

The matrix converter is a new generation of power electronic converters and is an alternative to back-to-back converters in applications that dimensions and weight are important. In this paper, a simple control algorithm for a three-phase asynchronous motor based on a direct torque control technique, which is fed through a three-phase direct matrix converter, is presented. For direct matrix converters, 27 switching modes are possible, which using the predictive control technique and for the different modes of the matrix converter, the motor behavior is estimated at the next sampling interval. Then the objective function is determined and the optimal possible mode is selected. Finally, the best switching mode is applied to the direct matrix converter. In order to evaluate the proposed method, simulation of the system in Matlab/Simulink software environment is performed. The results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Non-isolated power distribution systems using blocking diodes are used in the ship's electrical power systems, however, they create problems related to control and the possibility of ground faults. Another issue occurring during the operation of this type of systems is the increased heat dissipation. Selected problems related to the operation of the above systems have been identified by means of simulation studies and experiments carried out in a 11 kVA laboratory system and the theoretical basis along with results are provided in the article.

This study investigated the effect of computer-assisted instruction (CAI) on adult second language (L2) learners’ vocabulary recognition and production across high and low proficiency levels. Seventy-four participants were assigned to experimental (CAI) and control groups. All participants in the CAI group were categorized into high and low proficiency levels, based on their L2 vocabulary knowledge. The treatment lasted for one semester, 16 sessions, during which 16 passages were covered. While the CAI group individually worked on the passages uploaded on the CALL software, enhanced with hypertext annotations, the control group read the same passages through traditional teacher-directed instruction. The comparison of vocabulary recognition and production pretest and post-test scores revealed the significant effect of CAI on L2 learners’ vocabulary uptake in the immediate and delayed post-tests. While no significant differences were found between the high and low proficiency participants in terms of their improvement from production pretest to the post-test, lower-level participants revealed more vocabulary recognition gains. The findings have pedagogical implications for L2 teachers, practitioners, and courseware designers in that they can rely on CALL software as a viable scaffolding tool for L2 vocabulary growth.
