Background Transpedicular screw placement remains the gold standard technique for destabilization of the lumbar spine. Material and methods This is a retrospective study that analyzes patients that underwent the spinal stabilization surgical procedure. We compared results from two independent neurosurgical centers. At the turn of years 2012-2015, O-arm and StealthStation neuronavigation system was used for implantation of transpedicular screws. In 2018 to 2020 transcutaneous pedicle screw placement procedure was performed using standard C-arm device. Results In 208 procedures performed with the O-arm device, the accuracy of the positioning of the screws was 98.08 %. Screw repositioning was necessary in 1.92 % of all cases. In 30 procedures that were performed using the C-arm, the accuracy of the screws was 86.7% and the screw reposition procedure accounted for 10% (in one case crews were not replaced due to clinical sequelae). Conclusions Our data show that the spinal fusion with the O-arm tool has more accuracy, thus might be more indicated in procedures that require minimally invasive spinal stabilization.

Authors present the kinematic structure of measurement arm along with its construction for efficient estimation of orientation and position of the manipulator using extended Kalman filter. The major innovation of the arm is that it only uses accelerometers as gravity sensors for determining relative positions of the links. This article presents the problem of position estimation based on measurements with high noise and the use of the extended Kalman filter to limit the impact of noise on the measurement. Repeatability tests were performed using custom made test stand.

The paper presents the method of determining the global orientation of links of the measuring arm by gauging the angles of the links relative to the vector of the gravitational and magnetic field using inertial sensors. A method of using Kalman filter to average the results is presented as a test on two-links measuring arm equipped with accelerometers and magnetometers placed on each of the links and analysis of measurement results in terms of repeatability. There was demonstrated the ability of creating kinematic chain. Instead of determining the position of the final link on the basis of the measurement of angles in relation to the previous links from the end to the base of the arm, it is possible to define links global orientation by measuring angles of links in reference to the vectors of the gravity field and the magnetic field, in global coordinate system.

The research of robotics needs a good and accurate control. The proposed concept is touch less and non-verbal communication with the use of leap motion controller. The concept has two major parts: first part is “device perceive hand finger moments and send signal”, second part is robotic hand interfaced with PIC microcontroller which receives signal and controls robotic hand. The paper aims to link virtual environment with real time environment. The virtual environment is consisting of leap motion controller and laptop, real time environment is consisting of microcontroller and robotic arm. The paper describes a mechatronic approach towards designing and implementation complex motion control system. Particular attention was paid to virtual and physical prototyping of the control system. Possible implementations were divided into two groups: single applications or mass production. Authors attempt to present a unified approach towards the development of the process of designing control systems of both types. The prototyping enviroment was build around MATLAB, Simulink and RTW software from The Math Works Inc. Verification of presented methodology was done using physical model of a flexible robot arm: a with flexible beam, DC motor drive and harmonic gear. Object is very difficult to control due to non-linear and non-stationary behaviour of harmonic gear.
Szybkie prototypowanie w projektowaniu mechatronicznym. W pracy przedstawiono metodykę projektowania mechatronicznego ze szczególnym uwzlędnieniem procesu prototypowania. Przedstawione procedury umożliwiają skrócenie czasu powstawania produktu oraz integrację dziedzin wchodzących w skład mechatroniki. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na interdyscyplinarny charakter projektowania mechatronicznego oraz rolę budowy i badania prototypu w realizacji współczesnych produktów mechatronicznych. Przedstawiono system komputerowego wspomagania projektowania mechatronicznego. Jako przykład zastosowania opracowanych procedur wykonano układ sterowania elastycznym ramieniem robota.

The paper presents experimental static tests of IED interrogation arm for Shiba special vehicle. The test was performed by Military University of Technology and Military Institute of Engineer Technology. A number of strain gauges and camera markers were placed on the arm to allow recording strains and movements of specific construction points. The arm's motion was recorded using high speed camera. The equipment used were Vishay EA 06 120LZ 120 strain gauges with ESAM Traveller bridge. The sampling rate was 1000 Hz. The test was to pick up maximum design weight, move it to maximum overhang and then drop it on the ground. During the test, signal from gauges and video capture was recorded. The data was then processed using Thema 3D software to obtain markers displacements and angular changes of both arm parts. Afterwards, the test was repeated for different weight. The analysis showed, that maximum stresses in examined construction parts did not exceed yield stress of material. As well as that, in-depth motion analysis of the arm was conducted. Further works are twofold. Firstly, there will be tests concerning arm under dynamic load occurring during normal maintenance During this test only strains in specific construction parts will be recorded. Secondly, numerical model of an arm will be developed and validated using data obtained during both tests. This will help visualize stress distribution in each arm's part.

Background. Interlocking nailing is considered a gold standard surgical treatment of mid-shaft closed diaphyseal tibial fractures. With increasing exposure of orthopaedic surgeons to radiation, we propose a solution to this health hazard through a study wherein we perform the surgery without any radiation or C-arm exposure. Material and methods. This prospective study was done at GMC Jammu from January 2017 to February 2020 and included 218 patients, with 18 patients having bilateral tibia fractures in the age group 15 to 58 years (mean of 37.6 years), including 63.7% males (n=139) and 36.3% females (n=79). The 236 extra-articular closed tibial mid-diaphyseal fractures were operated on and intramedullary tibial nailing was performed without a single C-arm exposure. Postoperative x-rays were done and reduction assessed by standard acceptable criteria. Results. Among 236 cases in which nailing was done, 227 (96%) patients were successfully distally locked, including 128 (56.3%) locked through the jig and 99 (43.6%) by “hit and trial method.” All cases met acceptability criteria set for management of tibia by nailing. Conclusions. 1. This study strengthens the proof that closed extra-articular diaphyseal fractures of the tibia can be managed by nailing without using the C-arm with excellent results. 2. The C-arm is always available for cases where distal locking could not be achieved. 3. The technique has a great role in centres with limited facilities of intra-operative radiography in emergency operation theatres.

The article presents the differences in energy flow for two human physical models from ISO 10068:2012. The models are compared on the basis of a numerical simulation of energy flow implemented with MATLAB/simulink software. For purposes of comparison, the dynamics of the two Human-Tool systems is mathematically modelled and then used to derive their energy models. The model dynamic structures are fully specified in order to determine and compare three kinds of powers. The study revealed differences between the model characteristics when analysed along different directions of vibrations and as a whole.

One of the key factors for improving hurdle performance is the development of advanced athletic technique, analysis of which is vital in monitoring the training process. The current discussion on hurdling technique, however, seems to overlook the aspect of the movements of the upper limbs in hurdle races. The aim of this study was the qualitative assessment of the upper limb movement in the hurdle step. This study involved three research groups: children, physical education students and hurdle race runners. A questionnaire designed by the authors was used to qualitatively evaluate the technique of clearing the third hurdle (obstacle), taking into account three moments in clearing the hurdle, i.e. the take-off, the over-the-hurdle position and landing. A video footage was captured using three synchronized cameras which recorded a 1920x1080 resolution video at 50 Hz. The results showed statistically significant differences for most of the variables considered. Among all three groups tested, significant differences were noted for flexion at the elbow joint and for movement at the shoulder joint.

The main aim of this study is to present an energy comparison of two human physical models taking into account hand-arm vibrations, which are based on the power distribution in their dynamic structure. The method used in the study takes advantage of a close relationship between the dynamics of the systems and energy-related phenomena that occur within them. The energy comparison of the two human physical models required construction of energy models of a Human-Tool system and finding their solutions. For this purpose, programs have been developed using the MATLAB/simulink software to simulate power distribution in the systems. The simulation revealed a discrepancy between the two models in terms of three types of powers and globally in the system as a whole.

The paper presents an analysis of a mathematical model of the human arm dynamics in terms of observability. The purpose of the performed experiments is the selection of an observer for the possibility of arm tracking. The arm model is based on the two-link manipulator moving horizontally and vertically. For the study a model was linearized and the model part responsible for the work of human muscles was omitted. The experimental part involved simulated measurements of the motion parameters that imitate real-IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) measurements. Finally, the simulation results using the observer in the form of a Kalman filter and the particle filter have been presented.

Introduction: Physical condition is one of the most important factors in supporting archery. the better the physical condition, the better the concentration to support accuracy in archery. Concentration in archery is the ability to target targets accurately. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of circuit training on improving physical fitness and archery accuracy in novice athletes. Materials and Methods: Participants were 20 novice athletes, aged 10 to 12 years. Quasi-experimental research design, using two group pretest-posttest design. The method of collecting data on physical fitness uses the Indonesian physical fitness test (IPFT) aged 10-12 years and the accuracy test is by shooting arrows at the target. Data analysis used paired sample t-test, to determine differences in variable groups of men and women. The analysis results showed no difference if the significant value was less than 0.05 (p<0.05). Before analyzing the data, a prerequisite test was carried out which included the Shapiro Wilk normality test and the variate homogeneity test using the Levene's test. Results: The results showed that there was a significant increase in physical fitness in the male and female groups. Therefore, there was a significant improvement in the accuracy of archery shots in the male and female groups. The study concluded that circuit training is effective for improving physical fitness and archery accuracy in novice athletes.

The quality specifications for products such as wire rods produced by the steel industry are becoming ever more demanding. This demand has led to achieve uniform product quality at high production speeds. As a result, there is a need for the systems that operate in real time and continuously measure cross-section profile of the rods and detect if any change or deviation from the desired behaviour in their cross-section. To reach this goal, a laser-based computer-controlled technology provides a useful solution. In this paper, a high speed, low cost and high accuracy non-contact laser-based measuring system has been proposed and developed using a STM32 microcontroller. The system can measure the thickness of solid, non-transparent wire rods using the linear charged-coupled sensor and sent to a microcontroller unit to further analyse and continuously display the cross-sectional profile in real time. Any deviation in the dimension over the length of the wire along with its position with respect to starting of the wire can be detected in real time. The designed and developed system has capability of measurement accuracies and respectabilities to the micrometre level.

Conceptual space framework is used for representing knowledge in cognitive systems. In this paper, we have adapted conceptual space framework for prosthetic arm considering its cognitive abilities such as receiving signals, recognizing and decoding the signal and responding with the corresponding action in order to develop a conceptual space of the prosthetic arm. Cognitive functionalities such as learning, memorizing and distinguishing configurations of prosthetic arm are achieved via its conceptual space. To our knowledge, this work is the first attempt to adapt the conceptual spaces to model cognitive functionalities of prosthetic arm. Adding to this, we have made use of different notion of concept that reflects the topological structure in concepts. To model the actions of the prosthetic arm functionalities, we have made use of force patterns to represent action. Similarly, to model the distinguishing ability, we make use of the relationship between the attributes conveyed by adapted different notion of concept.
