The socio-political events of 1945-1956 are characterised by several phenomena that significantly marked the formation of tertiary education in Slovakia and determined its subsequent development. In the first years after the end of the war, attempts at political, economic, or cultural contacts with Western countries could still be observed in several Central European countries for some time. Universities maintained their traditional internal academic structure, organisation of student enrolment, content of studies, etc. This situation was mainly fostered by the needs of the country's reconstruction, which at the same time masked the political pragmatism of the new, but not yet fully strengthened, people's democratic regimes. Gradually, they became a priority concern of the Communist Party, whose aim was to gain ideological control over them. Soviet influence in education was exercised in the spirit of communist ideology, centralized state planning, and a bureaucratically controlled process of education marked by ideological influences. The paper aims to analyse the basic changes in educational models and specific features of Slovak higher education systems after the bipolar division of the world.

This text is a contribution to the discussion on the reform of higher education in Poland. By referring to selected examples, it shows that the planned changes are based on several fundamental myths resulting from the inefficiency of earlier attempts to heal the university system. At the same time, it aims to show why it is necessary to abandon the belief that higher education can be reformed quickly, with little financial outlays, and that the results of the implemented changes can be instant. The text offers also a criticism of the view assuming that the expected changes can be arrived at only through a reform of the law, and that it is possible to transplant solutions functioning in other countries directly to Poland. The presented considerations oppose the position according to which there exist some ideal models of education and research, whose implementation can make it possible to “breed” an ideal scholar. Arguing that education and academic success will always be an outcome of many variables, a critical analysis of selected solutions included in the law on science and higher education has been offered as well.

This research paper explains how the theory of effectuation complements the theories of entrepreneurship. It demonstrates how using the appropriate style of entrepreneurial leadership in higher education renders an eminent role in recovery during and post- COVID-19 by creating momentum for innovative change to combat the current economic challenges. The research paper provides a blueprint of the steps required via transformation leadership style to breed adequate culture and lead a healthy professional learning community through adopting and applying the Entrepreneurial University Model.

As a form of urban green space, community gardens have provided urban residents with various environments, to satisfy their social, economic and health interests. For the purposes of creating public, open and shared spaces, this article summarizes and contrasts the history of the community garden development in Europe and America, while analyzing the development situation of China as well. Taking “the Kid’s Garden” in Hunan Agricultural University as an example, the authors discuss the whole practice process in three aspects: the layout design, the construction process, and the operation and maintenance plan. Finally, the conclusion of the article presents a community garden building model, which is supported by universities with the goals to reward the society, as well as to provide a win-win result between practice and teaching. This experience is hoped to popularize community gardens and to make a contribution towards a harmonious society.

Opis:
This article is based on the research integrating qualitative approach and the content analysis method. The aim is to analyse the mission and strategy of the higher education institutions, assuming that through the mission and strategy those institutions express their self-identification, describe their current state and indicate the directions of development. The subject of the analysis is the best higher education institutions of the German-speaking countries, operating in national and international environment. The research was based on the content analysis, and on its basis, the values and aims of each university were indicated, and then – using the bottom–up method – the aggregation of the universities’ areas of activities was done. In this sense, the selected scopes of activities and points of focus may constitute a generalised reference to the other universities and to the entire academic community in the studied countries.2 The analysis of the various types of the universities (full, technical, medical) did not demonstrate any significant differences in their self-identification and the designation of the functions of the university, despite the differences in the language of description and the breadth of the offered career perspectives. The common origin, and cultural and social context were also the important factors in this research. The analised higher education institutions were much more oriented towards the standards defined by the best universities in the world and the global challenges of civilisation, what allowed them to become the leading institutions in innovation and technology transfer to the economy. Nowadays, the investigated universities represent the highest standards of academic knowledge. At the same time, they express contemporary trends and requirements of a business organisation (e.g. transparency, evaluation, knowledge management, inclusiveness). Moreover, the investigated higher education institutions perceive themselves as the socially responsible universities, what is confirmed by such values as: inclusiveness, gender mainstreaming, and sustainable development.
Prezentowany artykuł bazuje na badaniach integrujących podejście jakościowe z analizą treści. Ich celem była analiza misji i strategii uczelni, uznając, że w ten sposób uczelnie artykułują samoidentyfikację, opisują obecny stan oraz wskazują kierunki docelowe. Obiektem analizy są najlepsze uniwersytety państw niemieckojęzycznych, funkcjonujące w krajowym i międzynarodowym środowisku. Badania skupiały się na analizie treści i na tej podstawie prowadziły do wskazania wartości i celów działania każdego uniwersytetu, a następnie – metodą oddolną – do zagregowania i wyznaczenia pól ich aktywności. Wytypowane zakresy i ich punkty ciężkości mogą stanowić uogólnione odniesienie dla innych szkół wyższych i całego środowiska akademickiego. Objęcie analizą różnych typów uniwersytetów (pełne, techniczne, medyczne) nie pokazało istotnych odmienności w samoidentyfikacji i wyznaczaniu funkcji szkoły wyższej, mimo iż odróżniał je język opisu oraz szerokość perspektywy. Istotnym był czynnik wspólnego pochodzenia oraz uwarunkowania kulturowo-społeczne. W zdecydowanie większym stopniu uniwersytety orientowały się na standardy definiowane przez najlepsze szkoły wyższe świata oraz na globalne wyzwania cywilizacyjne. Pozwoliło im to stać się liderami innowacyjności i transferu technologii do gospodarki. Dziś przedstawione uczelnie uosabiają najwyższy standard wiedzy akademickiej. Jednocześnie wyrażają współczesne trendy i wymogi organizacji biznesowej (np. transparentność, ewaluacja, zarządzanie wiedzą, inkluzywność). Postrzegają siebie jako uczelnie społecznie odpowiedzialne, co potwierdzają takimi zapisami jak: inkluzywność, gender mainstreaming, rozwój zrównoważony.

The vital role in the knowledge based society play the organisations which contribute to the accumulation of knowledge and enlarging its resources owned by the individuals, companies but also by particular countries and the global society. One of the most important within those organisations are contemporary universities which fulfil the mission of building and transferring the knowledge through both teaching and conducting research. The aim of that paper is to identify those cultural values which facilitate knowledge management within the contemporary universities as well as its mutual transfer between the universities and society.

The analysis focuses on the functional connection between university marketing and city marketing. Therefore, the main aim of the article is to reconstruct the model of marketing cooperation of Poznań, Wrocław and Kraków and their biggest universities: the Adam Mickiewicz University, the Wrocław University of Technology and the Jagiellonian University. The use of three methods (case study, comparative analysis and content analysis) as well as the authorial, five-element model allows one to measure the level of the institutionalization of the cooperation. The choice of Poznań, Wrocław and Kraków is not accidental and results from the fact that the three cities are the leaders of place marketing in Poland. This paper reviews user-click models and the typed query profile model in order to investigate principles of faster access to documents which are in a university campus network. There wassynthesized university campus user model that is based on the task-centric click model and determines document pertinence conditions, which relies on a user class. A solution of documents search automation was suggested that assumes that users will enable to avoid wasting of time in scientific materials search.

This study aims to investigate the dynamics of online purchasing behavior through the analysis of a sample of students from Italy. The objective is twofold: firstly, to outline a descriptive picture of the type of relationship with the web and the use of the TAM model to highlight the propensity to use electronic commerce by the analyzed sample. An interesting evidence is the prevalence of using the Internet for social activities rather than for purchases. In fact, the propensity to purchase online is still very limited and mainly concerns cultural and tourist services rather than physical products. Mobile devices are the main devices for connecting students to the Web and, consequently, the most used for purchasing online.

The paper focuses on the experiences of teachers who work with older adults at University of the Third Age (U3A), at the University of Wroclaw. In Poland, The University of the Third Age are the most popular place of educational activities of seniors. According to data from the Statistical Office from 2015, in Poland there are 575 Universities of the Third Age. The paper presents the results of the conducted pilot research which have the status of preliminary diagnoses which require confirmation and supplementation based on further research activities. The paper consists of two parts theoretical and empirical one. The aim of the analysis of the collected research material presented in this paper is to establishing useful initial guidelines for practitioners, and in the next stage, developing an educational model of work with seniors as well as preparing a research project on a larger scale.
Artykuł prezentuje doświadczenia nauczycieli pracujących z seniorami na Uniwersytecie Trzeciego Wieku i Uniwersytecie Wrocławskim (UTW, UWr.). UTW są najbardziej popularnymi miejscami uczenia się seniorów w Polsce. Według danych Urzędu Statystycznego z 2015 r., w Polsce funkcjonuje 575 UTW. Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia wyniki pilotażowych badań, które mają status wstępnych rozpoznań, wymagających po-twierdzenia i uzupełnienia o kolejne działania badawcze. Artykuł został podzielony na dwie części: teoretyczną i praktyczną. Celem badawczym prowadzonych badań jest analiza indywidualnych doświadczeń edukacyjnych nauczycieli (geragogów) pracujących na UTW we Wrocławiu, wskazanie istotnych z ich perspektywy aspektów nauczania i uczenia się studentów-seniorów oraz skonstruowanie edukacyjnego modelu pracy z seniorami, który w kolejnym etapie badań zostanie zweryfikowany w liczniejszej grupie badanych.

The paper presents some results on investigations concerning development of a hybrid model for assessment of performance of the ro-ro ships in damaged conditions. The model is devoted towards assessing the performance of the damaged ro-ro ships at the preliminary stage of design. The key problems associated with preparing of such the model are associated with working out a method of assessment of the damaged ro-ro ships performance, investigating all the phenomena which associated with the flooding process of the damaged ro-ro ships and preparing the model itself. Introducing the method of assessment of the damaged ro-ro ships performance it has been assumed that there is a dependence between the arrangement of internal spaces of a ro-ro ship and flooding process. The major phenomena which have been decided to take into account when considering flooding of the ro-ro ships are the flooding understood as the flow of external water into the data damaged compartment, impact of the flooding water on the ship structure and damaged ro-ro ship motion. Knowing the damaged ro-ro ship motion characteristics in time domain it is relatively easy to assess the damaged ro-ro ship performance according to the heeling angle and assess the ro-ro ship design according to the data arrangement of internal spaces. The last research issue is to investigate if the proposed model may be appropriate tool for assessing the performance of the ro-ro ships in damaged conditions at the preliminary stage of design. The aim of this paper is to show how to incorporate the dynamics of the damaged ro-ro ships when assessing the ship performance and safety at the preliminary stage of design. The basic information on the model for estimation of the damaged ro-ro ship behavior during the flooding process is presented. The complexity of this model is shown depending on the approach applied to consider the flooding process itself. The model is devoted towards assessment of performance of the damaged ro-ro ships and it is still under the development according to a Ph.D. research at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Gdańsk University of Technology.

W artykule przedstawiono i przeanalizowano konfiguracje modeli biznesu powiązanych z efektywnością funkcjonowania organizacji. Badania przeprowadzono przy wykorzystaniu jakościowej analizy porównawczej na podstawie akademickich przedsiębiorstw odpryskowych. Celem artykułu jest zidentyfikowanie i opisanie konfiguracji modeli biznesu wraz z analizą ich powiązań z wysoką i niską efektywnością badanych przedsiębiorstw. Stwierdzono, że konfiguracje modeli biznesu wykorzystujące wysokiego poziomu zasoby ludzkie i posiadające szeroki dostęp do zasobów finansowych są powiązane z wysoką efektywnością. Ponadto wyodrębnione modele biznesu nie występują w żadnej z dwóch konfiguracji powiązanych z niską efektywnością.
The paper presents and analysis of the business model configurations associated with performance by conducting a qualitative comparative analysis of university spin-off companies. The purpose of this paper is to identify and describe business model configurations, analyze their associations with high and low firm performance, and explore the nature of these associations. The configurations comprising business models leveraging high level human resources and having a wide access to financial resources are associated with high performance was found. In addition, the extracted business models are not featured in any of the two configurations associated with low performance.

Opis:
The urgency of the study arises from the need of research universities to implement the results of their scientific research into practice in an entrepreneurial business environment and further contribute the resulting financial returns to solving urgent problems of humanity. This article intends to identify the unique features of a person who possesses entrepreneurial skills and to contribute to make a further investigation on his/her potential. It will then become the basis for the construction of a human-centered model of entrepreneurship development at a university conducting research. To study the problem a model is used that takes into account the key processes of entrepreneurial development. The article proposes the definition of a new management category “entrepreneurial progressivism”. This reflects the essence of the process of university entrepreneurship development and defines the phenomenon of free innovative thinking in a comprehensive manner. The author also develops a human-centered model of entrepreneurship development and presents and discloses the properties of unique features that are inherent for people with an entrepreneurial bent of mind. This then justifies the interdependence between the success of a research university and the success of its alumni, known as innovative entrepreneurs. The study has a practical value for executives who are interested in improving the university’s efficiency and carries significance through the development of entrepreneurial potential.
Artykuł powstał na bazie konieczności praktycznego wdrażania wyników badań naukowych w biznesie przez uczelnie badawcze, których korzyści finansowe z tego tytułu powinny również przyczyniać do rozwiązywania naglących problemów ludzkości. Celem jest identyfikacja specyficznych cech osób o umiejętnościach przedsiębiorczych oraz wkład w dalsze analizy ich potencjału. Stanie się to podstawą do budowy skoncentrowanego na człowieku modelu rozwoju przedsiębiorczości na uczelni badawczej. W celu zbadania problemu zastosowano model uwzględniający kluczowe procesy rozwoju przedsiębiorczości. W artykule zaproponowano definicję nowej kategorii zarządzania – „progresywizmu przedsiębiorczego”. Odzwierciedla ona istotę procesu rozwoju przedsiębiorczości na uczelni i kompleksowo określa zjawisko swobodnego myślenia innowacyjnego. Autor prezentuje także model rozwoju przedsiębiorczości skoncentrowany na człowieku oraz specyficzne cechy osób o skłonnościach przedsiębiorczych. Następnie uzasadnia współzależność między sukcesem uczelni badawczej a sukcesem jej absolwentów, określanych mianem innowacyjnych przedsiębiorców. Opracowanie ma praktyczną wartość dla przedstawicieli kadry kierowniczej, którzy są zainteresowani poprawą efektywności uczelni, oraz istotne znaczenie z perspektywy rozwoju potencjału przedsiębiorczego.

Opis:
The paper attempts to analyse, as to how distance education mechanisms can be effectually used for sustainability in areas of the human environment, health and management of the natural resources. Short review of methodological experiences in education of knowledge-based society for common action with experts for promotion sustainable development is based on over 20 years activity in this field of the AGH Open University and the Open Seminars on Sustainable Development and ca. 40 years of informal, problem-solving education in linkage with interdisciplinary case studies. Further this model will be sustainable in terms of clean technology used, for the benefit of the human environment and better quality of life. The concept is related to long-term international cooperation of the Polish author (e.g. from 1983 with Indian scientists) on human ecology, medical elementology, ecotoxicology and biotechnology as well as future requirements of the National Open University in India.
Artykuł stanowi próbę oceny możliwości zastosowania mechanizmów edukacji na odległość w celu skutecznej promocji zrównoważonych działań w dziedzinach środowiska człowieka, zdrowia i oszczędnej gospodarki zasobami przyrody. Zwięzły przegląd doświadczeń metodycznych w zakresie edukacji społeczeństwa opartego na wiedzy nawiązuje do ponad 20-letniej działalności w tym zakresie Uniwersytetu Otwartego AGH oraz Otwartego Seminarium nt. Zrównoważonego Rozwoju, a także do 40-letniej nieformalnej edukacji ukierunkowanej na rozwiązywanie problemów w powiązaniu z badaniami interdyscyplinarnymi. Model ten służy zrównoważonemu rozwojowi, ponieważ promuje technologie proekologiczne pożyteczne dla środowiska człowieka i wpływające na poprawę jakości życia. Nawiązuje on też do wieloletniej międzynarodowej współpracy polskiego współautora (m.in. od 1983 r. z indyjskimi naukowcami) w zakresie ekologii człowieka, elementologii medycznej, ekotoksykologii i biotechnologii oraz potrzeb rozwojowych Narodowego Uniwersytetu Otwartego w Indiach.
