Opis:
This article gives an overview of the use of X-ray absorption spectroscopy to characterize the magnetic properties for technologically important, low dimensional magnetic materials. An overview is given both for the experimental hardware, the measurements and the analysis of the spectra. The information obtained is discussed for metallic and semiconducting systems, using both the X-ray magnetic circular dichroism and the X-ray linear magnetic dichroism spectroscopy.

Opis:
A nanopowder containing γ-Fe₂O₃ particles was synthesized by adding a gas mixture of H₂/Fe(CO)₅ into a microwave torch discharge at 1 bar. The presence of γ-Fe₂O₃ phase was confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction (mean crystallite size $d_{XRD}$=24 nm). The dominating characteristic sextets of γ-Fe₂O₃ were identified in the Mössbauer spectrum taken at 5 K. The presence of pure $Fe_3 O_4$ in the nanopowder was excluded. The Mössbauer spectrum taken at 5 K exhibited six times larger total spectrum area than the Mössbauer spectrum taken at 293 K. Zero field cooled/field cooled curves measured down to 4 K in the magnetic field of 7.9 kA/m are reported.

Based on their histogenesis, uterine sarcomas may be subdivided into three main groups: 1) tumours originating in endometrial stroma, 2) tumours originating in uterine smooth muscle and 3) mixed tumours presenting both epithelial and mesenchymal components (mixed müllerian malignant tumours). Histological classification of uterine mesenchymal neoplasms underwent several modifications. Currently in force is the WHO classification issued in 2003. As regards histological maturity, they may be subdivided into benign tumours, tumours with undetermined malignant potential and malignant tumours. On the clinical grounds, the key issue is to determine the histological type and degree of maturity of mesenchymal tumour of corpus uteri. Endometrial tumours of muscular and stromal origin, presenting a typical morphological pattern, do not pose diagnostic problems and determination of their histopathology is usually possible based on routine hematoxylin-eosin staining. However, there are cases with an ambiguous appearance on microscopic studies, which require implementation of additional techniques in order to determine precisely their histogenesis and degree of maturity. The most common type of uterine sarcoma is leiomyosarcoma. In patients with this tumour type, the 5-year survival rate is 25-75% and the risk of metastases is estimated at 45-73%. Patients with tumours initially limited to the uterus may take an aggressive clinical course. Three key microscopic criteria enable the diagnosis of a leiomyosarcoma: coagulation necrosis, mitotic activity, and nuclear atypia. In the most common spindle-cell tumours of muscular origin, over 10 mitotic figures per 10 high power fields (HPFs) is considered a sign of malignancy, while in the rare myxoid muscular tumour, the borderline value is 3 mitotic figures per 10 HPFs. Endometrial stromal sarcomas of the corpus uteri are rare, making up for about 10% of uterine sarcomas and 0.2% of all malignant tumours with this location. Low-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma is a malignant tumour composed of cells similar to endometrial stromal cells. Usually it develops in middle-aged women. A characteristic feature is infiltrating growth pattern, with invasion of muscular layer of corpus uteri and of lymphatic vessels’ lumen. A typical finding are finger-like excrescences of tumour tissue within vascular spaces. Sarcoma cells usually present mild nuclear polymorphism and less than 10 mitotic figures per 10 HPFs. Noteworthy is, that the number of mitotic figures is not a criterion of differentiation of both above mentioned types of uterine stromal sarcoma. Non-differentiated endometrial sarcoma usually develops in elderly women, the mean age at presentation being 61. The tumour diffusely infiltrates the wall of corpus uteri, leading to widespread destruction and necrosis. Microscopic appearance is characterized by pleomorphic cells, from round and spindle-like to bizarre cells. Visible are numerous mitotic figures, from 10 to 40-50 per 10 HPFs. To conclude it should be emphasized that uterine corpus sarcomas presenting an atypical or mixed microscopic appearance, require confirmation of diagnosis by immunohistochemical staining. Three antibodies – h-caldesmon, desmin and CD10 – constitute the basic diagnostic panel.
Mięsaki macicy pod względem histogenezy dzielą się na trzy podstawowe grupy: pierwszą stanowią nowotwory z podścieliska błony śluzowej trzonu macicy, drugą tworzą guzy z mięśni gładkich oraz trzecią nowotwory o mieszanej budowie, złożonej z komponenty nabłonkowej i mezenchymalnej (mixed mOllerian mali-gnant tumours). Podział histopatologiczny nowotworów mezenchymalnych macicy ulegał zmianom. Obecnie obowiązującą jest Klasyfikacja Światowej Organizacji Zdrowia, WHO z 2003 r. Pod względem histologicznej dojrzałości dzielone są na łagodne, o nieokreślonym potencjale złośliwości lub złośliwe. Z klinicznego punktu widzenia bardzo istotne jest określenie typu histologicznego i stopnia dojrzałości nowotworu mezenchy-malnego trzonu macicy. Guzy pochodzenia mięśniowego i podścieliskowego, wywodzące się z endometrium, o typowym obrazie morfologicznym, nie sprawiają problemów diagnostycznych, a ich rozpoznanie histopatologiczne opiera się zwykle na rutynowym barwieniu hematoksyliną i eozyną. Istnieją jednak przypadki o niejednoznacznym utkaniu mikroskopowym, wymagające użycia dodatkowych metod w celu określenia ich histogenezy lub stopnia dojrzałości. Najczęstszym mięsakiem macicy jest mięśniakomięsak. Pięcioletnie przeżycie pacjentek z tym typem nowotworu wynosi od 25 do 75%, a ryzyko powstawania przerzutów od 45 do 73%. Chore z pierwotnie ograniczonymi guzami do macicy mogą mieć agresywny przebieg. Trzema podstawowymi mikroskopowymi cechami, będącymi kryteriami rozpoznania mięsaka pochodzenia mięśniowego macicy są: martwica skrzepowa, aktywność mitotyczna i atypia jądrowa. W najczęściej spotykanych wrzecionowato-komórkowych guzach pochodzenia mięśniowego powyżej 10 figur podziału przemawia za złośliwym charakterem nowotworu, podczas gdy w rzadko występujących myxoidnych guzach mięśniowych wartością graniczną są 3 figury podziału w 10 dużych polach widzenia. Endometrialne mięsaki podścieliskowe trzonu macicy występują rzadko, stanowią 10% mięsaków macicy i około 0,2% wszystkich nowotworów złośliwych w tej lokalizacji. Endometrialny mięsak podścieliskowy o niskiej złośliwości jest nowotworem złośliwym zbudowanym z komórek podobnych do komórek podścieliskowych endometrium. Zwykle występuje u kobiet w średnim wieku. Cechą charakterystyczną jest naciekający typ wzrostu guza z wnikaniem do mięśniówki ściany trzonu macicy oraz do światła naczyń chłonnych. Typowy obraz guza stanowią jego palczaste wyrośla leżące w przestrzeniach naczyniowych. Komórki mięsaka zwykle wykazują mały polimorfizm jądrowy, mniej niż 10 figur podziału na 10 dpw. Należy zwrócić uwagę, iż liczba figur podziału nie jest kryterium różnicowania obu wymienionych typów mięsaków podścieliska macicy. Niezróżnicowany mięsak endometrialny zazwyczaj występuje u kobiet w starszym wieku, mediana wynosi 61 lat. Guz ten nacieka ścianę trzonu macicy w sposób rozlany i destrukcyjny oraz ulega martwicy. W utkaniu mikroskopowym charakteryzuje się komórkami pleomorficznymi, od okrągłych i wrzecionowatych do monstrualnych. Figury podziału zwykle są liczne w jego utkaniu, stwierdza się ponad 10, w wielu przypadkach 40 do 50 w 10 dpw. W podsumowaniu należy podkreślić, że mięsaki trzonu macicy o nietypowym lub mieszanym obrazie mikroskopowym wymagają potwierdzenia rozpoznania barwieniami immunohistochemicznymi. Trzy przeciwciała: h-caldesmon, desmina i CD10 stanowią podstawowy panel diagnostyczny.

Fractional quantum Hall effect is a remarkable behaviour of correlated electrons, observed exclusively in two dimensions, at low temperatures, and in strong magnetic fields. The most prominent fractional quantum Hall state occurs at Landau level filling factor ν = 1/3 and it is described by the famous Laughlin wave function, which (apart from the trivial Gaussian factor) is an example of Jack polynomial. Fermionic Jack polynomials also describe another pair of candidate fractional quantum Hall states: Moore-Read and Read-Rezayi states, believed to form at the ν = 1/2 and 3/5 fillings of the second Landau level, respectively. Bosonic Jacks on the other hand are candidates for certain correlated states of cold atoms. We examine here a continuous family of fermionic Jack polynomials whose special case is the Laughlin state as approximate wave functions for the 1/3 fractional quantum Hall effect.

Small-angle X-ray scattering method recognised to be very useful in the studies of structural problems of materials inhomogeneous in nanoscale. Studies by small-angle X-ray scattering on the Al-Ag alloys are presented. The size distributions of spherical Guinier-Preston zones were calculated using Vonk's and Glatter's methods. Small-angle X-ray scattering studies were performed on Al-5.0 at.%Ag alloy containing spherical Guinier-Preston zones in theη-state. For this alloy one can assume that scattering particles are of spherical shape, have uniform electron density and scatter independently. Moreover, the size distributions were calculated for Al-1.6 at.%Ag alloy containing Guinier-Preston zones in ε-state (scattering particles with not uniform electron density). Both, Vonk's and Glatter's, methods gave similar size distributions. Profiles of size distributions for Guinier-Preston zones inε-state are more complex in comparison to Guinier-Preston zones inη-state. It is connected with a complex structure of Guinier-Preston zones in ε-state. A modification of the structure model of Guinier-Preston zones inε-state is proposed.

We report on exact-diagonalization studies of correlated many-electron states in the half-filled Landau levels of graphene, including pseudospin (valley) degeneracy. We demonstrate that the polarized Fermi sea of non-interacting composite fermions remains stable against a pairing transition in the lowest two Landau levels. However, it undergoes spontaneous depolarization, which is unprotected owing to the lack of single-particle pseudospin splitting. These results suggest the absence of the Pfaffian phase in graphene.

Opis:
Silicon crystals contained copper atoms included by diffusion way during high temperature treatment have been investigated by means of X-ray transmission topography (Lang method). The studies allow us to observe the increase or decrease in the dislocation images widths in dependence on the time of diffusin annealing. In one case, during the more prolonged decoration process a build-up of decorating particles on dislocation occurs with widening of the topographic images of this dislocation. In another case (short time of decorating process) some compensation of defect deformation fields has been noticed (shortening of the mentioned images takes part). The obtained effects depend not only on the type of intrinsic impurities which take part in forming the Cottrell atmospheres but also on the duration of diffusion annealing. The observed results of interaction of dislocations with impurities have been confirmed by the studies of the integral reflectivity of decorated samples by means of the double-crystal spectrometer.

Transport of Brownian particle moving along a three-dimensional throat-like channel is investigated in the presence of an external constant force. The solution of the Fick-Jacobs equation in the situation is solved, and the probability current density and particle current describing the motion of particle are obtained. It is found that entropy barrier and external force can reverse the direction of particle current. The motion of Brownian particle can be tuned by the entropy barrier and the external force.

Despite new technological solutions and attempts to improve the working conditions during driving of vehicles, city bus drivers are still exposed to negative impacts of noise and vibrations, causing stress, increased fatigue and leads to numerous diseases. Therefore it seems merited to investigate the acoustic climate and the working conditions during the operation of Solaris Urbino 18 vehicles, widely used in public transport systems. The main purpose of this research program was to show the impacts that the conditions at work might have on bus drivers or to demonstrate that these impacts do not exist. No extensive major research was done to investigate the influence of the conditions at work on functional stability of bus drivers. Investigation of vehicle vibroacoustic climate in working (normal) environment are led rarely. Measurements often are done in idle run or during ride at manoeuvring site only for 2-3 min. In this paper results of acceleration and noise in idle run are presented for 3 min measurement and for 3 h until ride. All measurements are done in working environment on streets of Tychy city with passengers on board. In this paper detailed numerical analysis of vibroacoustic parameters are presented. Physical parameters like noise spectral analysis in 1/3 octave frequency bands and histogram of acoustic pressure level in the driver's cabin are presented in results.

Opis:
Cyclodextrin (CD) is a cyclic compound with a spatial structure in the shape of a toroid. It is characterized by specific properties. The outer portion of the structure has hydrophilic properties, while the cavity of the toroid is hydrophobic. This enables cyclodextrin to form inclusion complexes with the enclosure of lipophilic molecules in the interior. This paper presents the results of attempts to form a complex of γ-CD/CL-20. This study determined unambiguously that a γ-CD with CL-20 complex in a mole ratio 1:1 is formed as a result of mixing of solutions of γ-CD and CL-20. This conclusion was corroborated by FTIR, 1H NMR, UV-Vis spectroscopic techniques and by measurement of the density of the complex obtained. The resulting complex of γ-CD/CL-20 is characterized by much lower sensitivity to friction and impact than CL-20 itself.

Opis:
WC1+ cells in cattle exhibit both regulatory and effector activities. However, it has not been elucidated whether they are so plastic that both activities co-exist in one cell or there are separate subpopulations of effector and regulatory cells. Since the production of IFN-γ and IL-10 seems to be related to WC1+ cells’ effector and regulatory function, respectively, the main aim of this study was to determine whether those cytokines are produced by separate subpopulations of WC1+, or are co-produced by the same cells. Due to increasingly frequent emphasised role of consumption of IL-2 in the mechanism of suppressor action of mouse CD25+CD4+ T regulatory cells, expression of the receptor’s α chain for interleukin 2 (CD25) on WC1+ lymphocytes has been evaluated. An average of 5.21% of WC1+ cells obtained from PBMCs of 12-month-old heifers show constitutive expression of the CD25 molecule, with CD25highWC1+ and CD25lowWC1+ cells accounting for 1.05% and 4.10% of WC1+ lymphocytes, respectively. For detection of intracellular cytokine production, PBMCs were stimulated with concanavalin A. Both IFN-γ- and IL-10-producing cells within the CD25-WC1+ and CD25+WC1+ subpopulations were mainly separate subpopulations. The average percentage of IFN-γ+IL-10-, IFN-γ-IL-10+ and IFN-γ+IL-10+ cells among CD25-WC1+ lymphocytes was 4.03%, 2.67% and 0.51%, respectively. A positive correlation was observed between the presence of the CD25 molecule on WC1+ lymphocytes and production of IL-10 and TGF-β, because the average percentage of IFN-γ-IL-10+ and IFN-γ+IL-10+ among CD25+WC1+ lymphocytes was 3 and 4.5 times higher as compared to the corresponding cells in the CD25-WC1+ subpopulation, whereas the percentage of IFN-γ+IL-10- cells in both the subpopulations was not significantly different. The percentage of TGF-β+ cells within the CD25+WC1+ subpopulation was 2.72 times as high as that of CD25-WC1+ lymphocytes. Therefore, with respect to the production of IFN-γ, IL-10 and TGF-β, CD25+WC1+ lymphocytes turn out to have a more suppressor profile than CD25-WC1+.

Ar-O-Zn plasma discharges created during DC reactive magnetron sputtering of a Zn target and RF reactive magnetron sputtering of a ceramic ZnO target were investigated and compared by means of the Langmuir probe measurements in order to determine the mechanism of growth of porous Zn films during DC-mode Zn reactive sputtering. The power supplied to the magnetrons during the sputtering was kept at 125 W and the plasma was characterised as a function of oxygen content in the sputtering gas mixture, ranging from 0 to 60% for two gas pressures related to porous Zn film deposition, namely 3 mTorr and 5 mTorr. Based on the correlation of plasma properties measurements with scanning electron microscope imaging and X-ray diffraction of the films deposited under selected conditions it was found that the growth of porous, polycrystalline Zn films was governed by high electron density in the plasma combined with a high electron temperature and an increased energy of the ions impinging on the substrate.

This study is concerned with the research and development in the field of materials science, leading to the industrial applications especially for the development of materials by moulding process. The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of vanadium on microstructural, mechanical and electrochemical properties of gray cast iron with lamellar graphite EN-FGL250. We investigated the effect of adding element (vanadium), during the casting of the metal in the mould, in a powder form having a particle size of 0.5 mm with the amounts of 1%, 3% and 5% in weight percent on microstructural and mechanical properties of gray cast iron with lamellar graphite. The originality of this work is the addition of the vanadium powder during the last stage of cooling of the melted gray cast iron EN-FGL250. These additions have a significant impact on the solidification phenomenon since the deposited vanadium powder into the sand moulds creates the new sites of nucleation and absorbs a lot of heat leading to the fast cooling. From the experimental results, we can confirm that the cooling rate directly affects the microstructural, mechanical and electrochemical behavior of the cast gray iron treated with vanadium. As result, it was observed that there is a slight decrease of the elasticity modulus of the work pieces, and a reduction of the maximum tensile resistance R_{m}. Finally, the addition of vanadium considerably reduces the corrosion current of gray cast iron treated with vanadium.
