Opis:
This paper presents and discusses results of analysis and investigations of arc to glow transformation phenomenon at contact opening, under DC inductive loads of low power (≤10 J) and low voltage (≤250 V). The proportion in duration of arcing and glowing is investigated in dependence on current and voltage value, contact material properties. The transition phenomenon is analyzed by means of fast photography and emission spectroscopy to complete the study. On the basis of investigated results the conclusions about the possibility of control of the arc to glow transformation for practical use in DC low voltage and low power electrical grids are formulated.

The paper presents results of a survey of natural monuments in the Śrem county, Poland. The survey inventoried eight avenues, 30 tree clusters, six erratics, two localities of a protected plant species, and 85 trees-natural monuments. Among all trees the most numerous group comprised small-leaved limes (447 trees – 36.6%), horse chestnuts (372 Aesculus hippocastanum – 30.4%) as well as Acer platanoides and Quercus robur (with 99 trees each – 8.1%). Among single trees classified as natural monuments the greatest numbers belong to Quercus robur (34 trees – 40.0%) as well as Aesculus hippocastanum and Tilia cordata (with 8 trees each – 9.4%). In the area of the survey there are 30 clusters of trees registered as natural monument. These clusters comprise 99 trees belonging to eight species. Among them English oaks vastly predominate – 65 trees (65.7%). Eight avenues are composed of 1038 trees belonging to seven species. The avenue with the highest number of trees is situated in Przylepki (the Brodnica comune), extending for 1.5 km and composed of 265 Tilia cordata specimens. Former manor and palace parks in the Śrem county account for 33% trees-natural monuments and 63% tree clusters. Considerable differences were recorded in the numbers of natural monuments registered in individual decades – in the 1950’s nine natural monuments were established (6.9% total number of natural monuments), in the 1960’s – one (0.8%), the 1970’s – one (0.8%), the 1980’s – 41 (31.3%), the 1990’s – 73 (55.7%), while in the first decade of the 21st century six natural monuments were registered (4.6%).

The object of the study was Tyrsko Lake (area 18.6 ha, max. depth 30.4 m), located in the western part of Olsztyn (Olsztyn Lakeland). This lake is one of the clear water lakes in Olsztyn, but the progressive deterioration of water quality has been observed during recent years. The phosphorus concentration in the water-sediment interface, phosphorus fractions quantity and the amount of components which can bind this element was investigated in the upper (0–5 cm) layer of deposits. The aim of study was to analyze the potential influence of bottom sediment on the lake water quality. The obtained results revealed that the bottom sediment of Tyrsko Lake can be classified as mixed, silica-organic type, with a relatively high content of iron (over 4% Fe in d.w.). The total phosphorus content was ca. 3.5 mg P g,-1 d.w. on average. Phosphorus in the bottom sediment was bound mainly with organic matter (NaOH-nrP fraction), which had over 50% share in TP. Highly mobile fractions (NH4-Cl-P and BD-P) together only included ca. 5% to 7% TP. The obtained results show that the bottom sediment of Tyrsko Lake can bind phosphorus quite effectively. The calculated internal mineral phosphorus loading during summer stagnation period was 10.9 kg and it was lower that the assessed annual external phosphorus load (22.6 kg). The assessed annual phosphorus loading from both sources was still lower than the critical load according to Vollenweider criteria. However, due to the fact that the internal loading phenomenon is occurring in the lake, it should be taken into consideration that the lake water quality can deteriorate gradually during the longer time perspective. These findings should be accounted for in the future if the potential protection and restoration procedures will be developed.

Aim: To deliver an argumentation for supporting the view that danger and crisis are vital factors shaping one’s living conditions. Methods: Thorough examination of Polish and international literature in the field of theory of safety. Results: Nowadays, every person is delivered a huge amount of information concerning the terrorism, sabotage, crime, epidemics of incurable diseases, extreme weather events, environmental disasters and, recently, armed conflicts, etc. Therefore, it has become a frequent event that one may lose a sense of identity, cope with the demands of mass education, having a sense of an information overload. Hence, although this situation does not lead to capitulation, there often arises a sense of helplessness among such persons. ‘Security’ and ‘risk’, ‘crisis’ and ‘critical situation’ are concepts being frequent subjects of media information. They in many instances refer to such entities as human being, social organization or its specific form - society. It is a truism to say that the most advantageous mean to avoid the negative consequences is an attempt to prevent their occurrence. In case of emergency, crises or critical situation, this principle seems to be completely confirmed. Responding to emergencies and crises is currently an area of a thorough examination conducted by representatives of scientific disciplines. As a result, there have been created valuable scientific and popular-scientific works concerning mainly: the organization of crisis management, the characteristics of the potential that could be deployed in the same management, interoperability, and the relationships between the elements of a crisis management system. Abovementioned representatives of science pursue their studies independently and together with those who measure daily problems of crisis management at different scales. Contemporary challenges and threats clearly indicate the growing role of knowledge in the field of preventing, minimizing and eliminating the consequences of their possible occurrence. It is possible by, inter alia, having a knowledge on this subject. Conclusions: The omnipresence of threats in the field of state security indicates the need to build systems which essence is to prevent such events, and minimize the consequences of their possible occurrence. The situation presented in the article provided the authors with a chanc to present their opinions and indicate significant problems. The article provides an overview of the most important definitions and research in the theory of security. Its purpose is to familiarize the reader with the tradition of security research and all its contexts. Mainly in the definition of terms such as ‘security’, ‘crisis’ and ‘critical situation’. In the course of the presented considerations, the authors identified the relationship between these phenomena and explained their scope and nature.
Cel: Zidentyfikowanie kryteriów decydujących o postrzeganiu kryzysu i sytuacji kryzysowej jako współczesnych uwarunkowań bezpiecznego życia współczesnego człowieka. Metody: Analiza literatury polskiej i międzynarodowej z zakresu teorii bezpieczeństwa. Wyniki: Współczesnemu człowiekowi dostarczana jest ogromna ilość informacji dotyczących terroryzmu, sabotażu, przestępczości, epidemii, ekstremalnych warunków pogodowych, katastrof ekologicznych, a ostatnio również konfliktów zbrojnych itp. Między innymi dlatego, zapewnienie bezpieczeństwa wymaga organizacji szeroko zakrojonego procesu edukacji dla bezpieczeństwa, choćby po to, aby nie dopuścić do bezradności w warunkach wystąpienia zagrożeń. „Bezpieczeństwo” i „zagrożenie”, „kryzys” i „sytuacja kryzysowa” to pojęcia często pojawiające się w mediach. Odnoszą się one w wielu przypadkach do takich podmiotów jak człowiek, organizacja społeczna i społeczeństwo. Truizmem jest twierdzenie, że współcześnie nie jest możliwe wyeliminowanie zagrożeń, lecz jedynie minimalizowanie skutków ich wystąpienia. Przebieg dotychczas analizowanych sytuacji kryzysowych potwierdza taką opinię. Zarządzanie w sytuacjach kryzysowych jest obecnie obszarem gruntownych badań prowadzonych przez przedstawicieli wielu dyscyplin naukowych. W rezultacie tych badań zostały opracowane wartościowe prace naukowe i popularno-naukowe dotyczące głównie organizacji zarządzania kryzysowego oraz reguł współdziałania i relacji, jakie zachodzą między elementami systemu zarządzania kryzysowego. Jest to tym bardziej cenne, że naukowcy, o których mowa prowadzą badania samodzielnie oraz we współpracy z pracownikami administracji publicznej zajmującymi się na co dzień problematyką zarządzania kryzysowego na różnych poziomach organizacyjnych państwa. Współczesne wyzwania i zagrożenia wyraźnie wskazują na rosnącą rolę wiedzy w zakresie zapobiegania, minimalizacji i likwidacji skutków ich ewentualnego wystąpienia. Jest to możliwe, między innymi, poprzez posiadanie aktualnej wiedzy w zakresie umożliwiającym ich przezwyciężenie. Wnioski: Wszechobecność zagrożeń w dziedzinie bezpieczeństwa państwa wskazuje na potrzebę budowania systemów, których istotą jest zapobieganie tym zagrożeniom i minimalizowanie skutków ich ewentualnego wystąpienia. Rozważania przedstawione w niniejszym artykule oparto na przeglądzie wartościowych poznawczo definicji i badań w teorii bezpieczeństwa. W przedstawionych rozważaniach, autorzy zidentyfikowali związki między tymi zjawiskami oraz wyjaśnili ich zakres i istotę.

The methodology and results of several cylinder-shaped, fibrous covers were presented with various cushioning layers, subject to charge explosion. The charges included 200 g TNT slabs and various number and kinds of fragments and balls of various diameters. The reactions of cylinder fibrous covers to the explosions were presented as well, as the screens located behind them. Protective performance of various cylinder models was determined.

Possibilities of determining low concentrations of vanadium in underground and surface waters using the absorptive atomic spectrometry with flame excitation method were tested. Due to the very low le vel of concentration of the determined element in water, initial condensation was necessary by chelate formation with 1-ammonium-pyrrolidin-dithiocarbamat (APDC) at pH= 4, and by extracting to the isobutyl methyl ketone (MIBK). Spectrometric measurements were made in the obtained extract. After optimising the conditions of measurement, investigating and determining the influence of disturbing substances, and determining the limit of detectability, it was found that using the developed method vanadium can be determined in water in the range of concentrations between 0.004 and 0.050 mgV/dm3. Determination becomes impossible if concentrations of iron of over 0.5 mgldm3 are present.

Opis:
A quick and simple method of separating oil products into the aliphatic and aromatic fractions are presented. The aliphatic fraction was analysed, using the GC/MS technique. Results of analyses of the predominant in oil group of biomarkers, ie the n-alkanes and two compounds from the isoprenoid group: pristane and phytane, are presented. Ratios of the content of these compounds (Pr/F), Pr/n-Cn and F/n-C18 are characteristic for a given oil, and this is used to identify the oil products.
Przedstawiono szybką i prostą metodę rozdziału produktów naftowych na frakcję alifatyczną i aromatyczną. Otrzymaną frakcję alifatyczną badano przy zastosowaniu techniki GC/MS. W pracy przedstawiono wyniki analiz dominującej w ropie naftowej grupy biomarkerów - n-alkanów oraz dwóch związków z grupy izoprenoidów. pristanu i fitanu. Stosunki ilości tych związków (Pr/F) oraz Pr/n-C17 i F/n-C18 są charakterystyczne dla określonej ropy, co wykorzystywane jest przy identyfikacji produktów naftowych.

The electromagnetic coupling between the magnetic and the superconducting layers in perovskite heterostructures is investigated by means of the magneto-optical technique. The quantitative imaging of the magnetic field distribution allows the high-resolution reconstruction of local supercurrent density. Two phenomena arising from the coupling between manganite layer and the YBa$\text{}_{2}$Cu$\text{}_{3}$O$\text{}_{7-δ}$ superconducting film deposited on top are addressed, i.e., the local effects of the electronic coupling between the compounds and the interaction between the manganite magnetic moments and the vortices in the superconductor. The first issue can be quantified in terms of the local superfluid density depression/enhancement in correspondence to the underlying magnetic structure, both domains and domain walls (in dependence on the orientation and sign of the local magnetization) and of the spontaneous, macroscopic screening current loops generated by the manganite domain walls. The interaction between the local manganite magnetization and the superconducting vortices is also influenced by structural defects because they modulate the magnetic pattern of the manganite. Different channelling phenomena in correspondence to the natural twin boundaries of the substrate, but locally magnetized by pinned domain walls of the manganite on their locations, are recognized.

In this paper we investigate electron emission/capture from/to the DX state of indium in CdTe by means of high pressure freeze-out cycle and steady-state photo-conductivity experiments. The results indicate that the DX state is occupied by two electrons. A comparison with deep level transient spectroscopy data shows that two-electron emission occurs at low temperatures, while one-electron emission takes place at high temperatures.

Beef cattle breeds in Poland: Various of beef cattle breeds offer many different paths of breeding for Polish breeders. Understanding their predisposition is the key to effective and profitable production. The current level of beef consumption in Poland barely exceed 3 kg per person per year, what is lower result than in the past when it amounted nearly to 18 kg per person per year. It is strongly connected to lack of beef cattle production and consumption tradition. The rapid development of poultry and pork production results in prices drop of those products and deepen marginalization of the culinary beef. To repopularize beef on the Polish market, it is necessary to increase its quality in order to meet the current requirements of customers and become attractive for them. According to many authors, the key element is the promotion of knowledge in this field among farmers to produce better quality beef. Quality is a key due to the increase in nutritional value and improvement of its taste and appearance which is crucial during making a choice. The difficult market situation forces breeders to make a deliberate decision and apply new solutions in breeding. The mentioned and described breeds are present on Polish farms, however their populations differ significantly despite the diverse potential they have.

We present experimental evidence that at high pressures indium donors in CdTe localize electrons in spatially correlated manner. We have studied Hall mobility, μ$\text{}_{H}$, as a function of electron concentration, n$\text{}_{H}$, at T=77 K. Changes of n$\text{}_{H}$ have been achieved by two methods. High pressure freeze-out of electrons onto localized states of In-donors leads to the mobility enhancement with respect to the situation when n$\text{}_{H}$ has been modified by means of a subsequent annealing of the sample. As a result, depending on the degree of spatial correlations in the impurity charges arrangement, different values of μ$\text{}_{H}$ correspond to the same value of n$\text{}_{H}$. The variation of mobility with electron concentration suggests that the localized state of In-donor represents likely negatively charged DX state.

Opis:
Room temperature, continuous wave operation of InGaN multi-quantum wells laser diodes made by rf plasma assisted molecular beam epitaxy at 411 nm wavelength is demonstrated. The threshold current density and voltage were 4.2 kA/cm$\text{}^{2}$ and 5.3 V, respectively. High optical power output of 60 mW was achieved. The lifetime of these laser diodes exceeds 5 h with 2 mW of optical output power. The laser diodes are fabricated on low dislocation density bulk GaN substrates, at growth conditions which resembles liquid phase epitaxy. We demonstrate that relatively low growth temperatures (600-700°C) pose no intrinsic limitations for fabrication of nitride optoelectronic components by plasma assisted molecular beam epitaxy.
