Opis:: Introduction. The overweight and obesity epidemic represents a rapidly growing threat to the health of populations in an increasing number of countries. Nearly one-third of the world’s population has excess adipose tissue. Nowadays, obesity occurrence is so common that it is replacing more traditional problems, such as an undernutrition and infectious diseases, as the most significant causes of ill health. If the current trend continues, almost half of the world’s adult population will be overweight or obese by 2030. Objective. The aim of this study is to show the connection between recent trends in body mass index, and the globally changing cancer profile. State of knowledge. A range of clinical and epidemiological studies have shown the relationship between excess body fat and the most frequently occurring malignancies. Obesity is associated with many cancers, such as: breast, colorectal, liver, lung, kidney, oesophageal, pancreatic, endometrium, ovarian, prostate, thyroid, and gallbladder cancer. Conclusions. In the light of this information, the study supports the claimed statement that obesity is one of the major health problems of the 21st century. Considering the increase in the number of obese people worldwide, it is necessary to develop a strategy allowing to prevent it. Fighting against unhealthy lifestyle in order to reduce overweight and obesity in society may have an essential impact on decreasing the number of incidences of cancer.

Opis:: In the paper the energy sector as a critical infrastructure is presented and basic terminology concerned with the energy critical infrastructure is given. The interactions and connections between critical infrastructures are described and the effects of power disruptions to other critical infrastructures are highlighted. Next, presented terminology and taxonomy refer to climate change and resilience to climate change of electric cable critical infrastructure. Finally, taxonomy of electric cable critical infrastructure network in Baltic Sea Region is given, especially in terms of climate change and resilience to climate change. Basic notions related to extreme weather events and climate change having impact on energy generation, transmission and distribution are introduced.

Opis:: In the paper the Baltic Electric Cable Critical Infrastructure Network (BECCIN) is defined and the main electric cable investments in the Baltic Sea Region, that are components of BECCIN, are described. Next the installations belonging to BECCIN are presented regarding their availability and disturbance outages. Functioning and disturbances in electric grid critical infrastructure network are analyzed in terms of climate-weather change impact. Finally, consequences of power blackouts and their impact on other critical infrastructures are discussed.

Opis:: Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) requires the development of models and tools able to describe and simulate the threats’ and the Critical Infrastructure’s (CI) dynamic behaviour. However, these modelling activities are very often carried out separately for threats and for CI behaviour. An effective assessment of the CI’s resilience and preparedness requires real coupled models of threats dynamic and CI’s one. The authors develop some basic ideas about coupled modelling in the sense of coupling the dynamics of the threat with that of the CIs, within a stochastic modelling approach. Such coupled dynamic models would enhance the effectiveness of our capabilities to assess CI’s resilience and to help in decision making for crisis management.
