Opis:
Grinding is usually the last stage of the technological process and determines the quality of manufactured products. One of the varieties of grinding more and more often used in practice is deep grinding which is called Creep-Feed Grinding. It is characterized by a high value of grinding infeed and slow feed. Technological parameters such as the depth of grinding and the speed of feed have a significant impact on the quality of the workpiece. However, also the grinding speed has an influence on the grinding process and the result of machining. Therefore, experimental studies on the impact of grinding speed on the surface roughness and grinding force components were carried out. The tests were realized in the deep-grinding grinding process of Inconel 718 with a grinding wheel made of mixture of sintered alumina and ruby corundum.

Opis:
This article presents results of experimental tests of internal cylindrical traverse grinding in which the total machining allowance is removed in a single pass. Grinding wheels with zone-diversified structure made on basis of abrasive grains from Al2O3 were used in the process. Such tools are characterized by different construction of rough and finish grinding zones. Moreover, conic chamfer is shaped on their active surface that allows for even distribution of machining allowance on the grinding wheel surface. What is described in the hereby work is a device for precise shaping of conic chamfer on the grinding wheel active surface (GWAS). The work also presents results of tests whose aim was to determine the influence of grinding wheel macrogeometry on the process of internal cylindrical traverse grinding of internal cylindrical surfaces made from steel 100Cr6. Changes of selected parameters of the machined surface geometric structure (Ra, Rz, RSm, Rdq and RTp) and values of the grinding power P were analyzed. It was proved that the greater the conic chamfer width, the better the results.

Opis:
In Electrochemical Machining (ECM), material is removed “atom by atom” as the result of an electrochemical dissolution process. Under optimal parameters for this process the tool has no wear and the quality of the surface layer, metal removal rate and accuracy are satisfactory for special application in the automotive or aerospace industries. However, ECM has also some limitations connected with electrolyte flow through interelectrode gap, machined surface passivation phenomena or heat and hydrogen generation, quick temperature increase and high probability of electrical discharges and difficulties with machining composite materials. In Electrodischarge Machining (EDM), material from workpiece is removed during electrical discharges occurring in the machining area as a result of material melting, evaporating and sometimes breaking as a result of high internal stresses. This way of material removal introduces significant changes in surface layer properties and reaching a satisfactory surface layer roughness and high accuracy is possible only for a rather small metal removal rate. In order to overcome the above-mentioned problems, some hybrid abrasive ECM and EDM processes have been worked out and successfully applied in industry. Here, some results from the authors’ own research, industrial applications and data from the literature are presented.
W obróbce elektroerozyjnej (EDM) ubytek materiału z przedmiotu obrabianego realizowany jest podczas wyładowań elektrycznych występujących w obszarze obróbki w wyniku topienia, parowania, a czasem pękania materiału w wyniku dużych naprężeń wewnętrznych.

Vibration mills used in the industry are an alternative to conventional gravity mills. Compared to gravity mills they have much lower demand for energy of the milling process, significantly lower mass and several times lower cost of raw materials milling. In addition, they have much greater technological possibilities, which justifies their use in many cases. Apart from a number of advantages, vibration mills have disadvantages. The dynamics of work causes a significant transfer of vibrations to the ground and a major load on the vibrator bearings. As a result, they require temperature monitoring and the use of complex cooling systems. It is possible to reduce these negative effects by using new construction solutions.

Opis:
In the study maintenance workers were involved in pneumatic wrenching, oxy-gas cutting, and grinding at 5 different heights. Working posture and workers’ perceptions were measured. Guidelines on working height were formulated in order to minimize the load on the musculoskeletal system. Data from the present experiment as well as from literature were studied in depthin order to disclose generic mechanisms behind the adoption of working postures during visual-manual operations in relation to workstation adjustment. It was found, for instance, that the working posture was constrained by a strictly followed relationship between gaze inclination and head inclination for-/backwards. Also, the study provided insight into the role of visual interference, viewing distance, manipulation distance, hand grip of the tool, and body support for stability. Concerning evaluation criteria for working postures, it was concluded that neck flexion/extension (i.e., head inclination for-/backwards versus trunk inclination for-/backwards) seems to be the dominant determinant of neck load, as compared to head inclination for-/backwards. Furthermore, the position of the upper arm with respect to the trunk, that is, shoulder flexion/retroflexion in particular, seemed to be a dominant determinant of shoulder and shoulder girdle load, as compared to upper arm elevation.

A process of quality development helps us reveal concrete deficiences, an analysis of their origin and realization of required modifications that are needed to solve a concrete problem. One of the aims of quality development of production in bearing industries is to find out an impact of tchnological conditions to form burning of surfaces in grinding of orbits of bearing rings. We try to describe an origin of the problem, to find reasons of burned surfaces in a process of grinding and to propose such technological conditions to avoid above-stated problems and to produce the least possible number of non-identical workpieces. To lower a number of burnings in grinding of the orbit to zero percentage is not real, however, we have to try to get a minimal number of parts with damaged surface.

Opis:
Investigations of the surface layer characteristics of selected kinds of low-alloy high-speed steel after grinding were carried out. They were carried out on the flat-surface grinder with a 95A24K grinding wheel without cooling. The influence of grinding parameters was defined especially for: the quantity of secondary austenite, surface roughness, microhardness and grinding efficiency with a large range of grinding parameters: grinding depth 0.005–0.035 mm, lengthwise feed 2–6 m/min, without a cross-feed on the whole width of the sample. It was found that improvement of grinding properties of low-alloy high-speed steels is possible by efficient selection of their chemical composition. The value of the grinding efficiency is conditioned by grinding forces, whose value has an impact on the grinding temperature. To ensure high quality of the tool surface layer (i.e. a smaller amount of secondary austenite, lack of wheel burn and micro-cracks) in the case of sharpening of tools made of low-alloy high-speed steel, the grinding temperature should be as low as possible.

Opis:
The article presents the association of the output signals of the grinding process with the machining parameters. The article focuses on assessing the suitability of grinding force signal and acoustic signal acquisition for different process conditions. In the first part of the article the kinematic contact of abrasive grain with the workpiece analysis was carried out. By analogy to the micro-cutting process, geometric analyses are presented and the process parameters that have a major impact on the grinding zone load are indicated. Analytically it has been shown that elementary grinding speeds (wheel and workpiece speed) and grinding depth have a significant effect on recorded signal values. The work also presents a set of factors and phenomena that are sources of acoustic emission impulses in the grinding process. For a selected range of grinding parameters, an experimental verification was performed. The article presents the highly correlated relationship between grain penetration depth (maximum uncut chip thickness) and grinding force components, as well as the effective value of acoustic emission. The output signals of the grinding process were also compared, indicating the advantage of the acoustic emission signal above the grinding force in terms of the reaction speed (and lag) of the sensors to the phenomena occurring in the grinding zone.
