A Carleson condition on the difference function for the coefficients of two elliptic-caloric operators is shown to give absolute continuity of one measure with respect to the other on the lateral boundary. The elliptic operators can have time dependent coefficients and only one of them is assumed to have a measure which is doubling. This theorem is an extension of a result of B. Dahlberg [4] on absolute continuity for elliptic measures to the case of the heat equation. The method of proof is an adaptation of Fefferman, Kenig and Pipher's proof of Dahlberg's result [8].

Caroline affair has been one of the historical events of British-American diplomacy since the 1812 War to the Webster-Ashburton Treaty 1842. The beginning of accident was the destruction of the American Caroline ship by British Army forces in Upper Canada on December 29, 1837. When the incident occurred, the Anglo-American opinion on this issue was in stark contrast. The differences in opinion were the causes of the tension between the two countries. In the threat of occurring war, Great Britain and the United States held talks on Caroline affair. Caroline's handling of the problem had played a significant role in reducing tensions, paving the way for resolving conflicts in the relationship between the two countries through the Webster-Ashburton treaty in 1842. At the same time, this issue established new principles in international politics. This article would contribute to the history of Caroline affair, McLeod case and the history of British-American relations related to this issue from 1837 to 1841.

Opis:
Issues related to the eroticism frequently appear in the media and this is the context in which the authors of the following text concentrated on a closely related and yet opposing matter. They decided to ask about the broadly defined chastity and the purity of heart, mind and body (the terms chastity and purity, as well as unchastity and impurity, shall be used interchangeably). How is this topic presented by the contemporary media? Simultaneously, they ask how the issues related to the lack of such purity, e.g. in the physical context, are treated by the media. The authors made an attempt to explain this by presenting a comparative analysis of two films they chose as serving best for their purpose. The first is50 Shades of Grey, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, and the other Caroline, directed by Dariusz Regucki. During the first stage of this research of notions and chastity and unchas-tity have been defined, on the basis of the proper reference books. Next, the chosen movies were analysed thoroughly, in order to define the true look of the purity and impurity noticeable in both movies – in their activities, as well as in the behaviour and dialogues of the main protagonists. The third stage of the research assumed creating a synthesis of the material achieved on the basis of analysing the two pictures. At this moment it became possible to present the conclusions, pointing out, first of all, that the media are rather poorly interested in the subject of chastity. However, this inspired the authors to drawing other conclusions in the form of the postulates, concerning how the media presents the subjects of purity and impurity.

If Ω is a Lip(1,1//2) domain, μ a doubling measure on $∂_{p}Ω, ∂//∂t - L_{i}$, i = 0,1, are two parabolic-type operators with coefficients bounded and measurable, 2 ≤ q < ∞, then the associated measures $ω_{0}$, $ω_{1}$ have the property that $ω_{0} ∈ B^{q}(μ)$ implies $ω_{1}$ is absolutely continuous with respect to $ω_{0}$ whenever a certain Carleson-type condition holds on the difference function of the coefficients of $L_{1}$ and $L_{0}$. Also $ω_{0} ∈ B^{q}(μ) $ implies $ω_{1} ∈ B^{q}(μ)$ whenever both measures are center-doubling measures. This is B. Dahlberg's result for elliptic measures extended to parabolic-type measures on time-varying domains. The method of proof is that of Fefferman, Kenig and Pipher.

The article seeks to understand the relationship between government legitimacy and the citizens of a state. Specifically, it looks how the person’s ability to build a family and fulfill their purpose can be enabled or inhibited by their government’s actions. The article proposes building a framework based on the Personalism found in John Paul II’s work Love and Responsibility, as the basis for an approach that governments can look towards in the effort to take citizen-based actions internationally and domestically. This will ensure the State’s people are respected and their dignity upheld. Without considering the person in these processes, it is possible to overlook them in politics, and so put them at risk for abuse.

Opis:
This paper aims to explore the concept of Creative City from the points of view of three medium-sized cities in Central and Western Europe: Birmingham (UK), Leipzig (Germany) and Poznań (Poland). The concept of Creative City has risen in popularity in the last 15 years but its meanings and its policy application display important variations. In an attempt to clarify conceptual issues and policy approaches around the term of Creative City, Scott (2006) states that policy makers should focus on specific key variables when attempting to build viable Creative Cities: the presence of inter-firm networks of producers combined with a flexible local labour market. Infrastructural facilities and social capital are also crucial in this process. Even though these variables may be mostly found in largescale metropolitan areas such as New York, Los Angeles etc., Scott (2006, p. 9) argues that “there are also many small and specialised creative agglomerations all over the world” due to the process of increased differentiation. In addition, Hall (2004) argues that building a truly Creative City is possible but is a long-term process, and historical favourable preconditions are important.

Aim. The aim of this study is to present the relationship between educational interest and academic achievement of the secondary school students in East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya, India. The standardised tool used for the study is the Educational Interest Record by Kulshrestha (2016). In order to assess the academic achievement, the final year examination results of students were collected. Methods. The sample of the study comprised of 300 secondary school students drawn from fifteen secondary schools under Meghalaya Board of School Education. Stratified random sampling was used with equal representation to gender and locale. Analysis was done by using Pearson ‘r’ (Product Moment Correlation) and t-test. Results. The findings of the study revealed a negative relationship between educational and academic achievement. There is a significant difference in the educational interest in terms of gender, but no significant difference was found between locales of the secondary school students. Conclusions. The assessment of the educational interest may be considered one of the crucial methods used in the education system, as teaching of subjects alone cannot help the students in the educational development. On the other hand, academic achievement is one of the areas in which relatively accurate information can be obtained with relation to individual’s ability or capacity. The study has provided information which indicate that students do not have a clear understanding about their own interests and abilities. Hence, guidance and counselling need to be integrated into the secondary school curriculum in the state in order to help the students better understand their interests and abilities. Educational guidance and counselling will also enable the students to plan both their higher education and career in thefuture.

We have previously reported on the identification and characterization of the Porphyromonas gingivalis A7436 strain outer membrane receptor HmuR, which is involved in the acquisition of hemin and hemoglobin. We demonstrated that HmuR interacts with the lysine- (Kgp) and arginine- (HRgpA) specific proteases (gingipains) and that Kgp and HRgpA can bind and degrade hemoglobin. Here, we report on the physiological significance of the HmuR-Kgp complex in heme utilization in P. gingivalis through the construction and characterization of a defined kgp mutant and a hmuR kgp double mutant in P. gingivalis A7436. The P. gingivalis kgp mutant exhibited a decreased ability to bind both hemin and hemoglobin. Growth of this strain with hemoglobin was delayed and its ability to utilize hemin as a sole iron source was diminished as compared to the wild type strain. Inactivation of both the hmuR and kgp genes resulted in further decreased ability of P. gingivalis to bind hemoglobin and hemin, as well as diminished ability to utilize either hemin or hemoglobin as a sole iron source. Collectively, these in vivo results further confirmed that both HmuR and Kgp are involved in the utilization of hemin and hemoglobin in P. gingivalis A7436.

By reading, viewing and discussing graphically narrated stories, children developed plays out of pictures and texts. These approaches shall be deepened in the context of an intervention study: in a project-week at a primary school, Anke Kuhl’s comic style novel Lehmriese lebt! [Clay Giant’s Alive!] (2015) will be scenically staged in a live audio-play. In this story, two children unintentionally create a Golem during a game. The Golem’s quest for orienting itself brings about chaos. Finally, its creators can prevent a catastrophe by giving the Golem the right task: to play with them. Reading and playing the comic style novel shall bring narrative resources of the respective art form to the children’s attention, but also change and widen perspectives on the story. The question emerges: how do waves of literary learning become visible in the soundtrack development and implementation of Lehmriese lebt! [Clay Giant’s Alive!]? Therefore focus lies on the children’s imagination, their subjective involvement and their perception of language and pictures in the comic style novel. The scenic development and conversation about it will be audio- and video-recorded. Based on this data, observation protocols and transcripts will be written in order to enable the analysis of verbal and non-verbal expressions. Transformation processes in a multimodal literary context will be explored from two different angles: transformation of the story (written language and pictures are transformed into spoken language and sounds) as well as the liminal experience of the children in the play. The reason for choosing Lehmriese lebt! [Clay Giant’s Alive!] is the Golem-motif, whose core aspects are transformation processes and animation from inanimate materials.

Opis:
The late Trappist monk and prolific author, Thomas Merton was intensely concerned with the self – or to be more precise, with a desire to break free from the tyranny of the self he took to be his identity. His early years in France and England were marked by a sense of loss and dislocation. After leaving Cambridge for Columbia, his subsequent life in America and decision to be baptised a Catholic at the age of 23 eventually led to his taking vows as a Cistercian monk. Given the name Frater Louis, the ‘world’ with all its temptations and unresolved issues had been left safely behind along with his old identity. Or so he thought. In fact, Merton’s years as a Trappist would lead to a best-selling autobiography written under obedience to his abbot with many more books to follow. Compared at the time of its publication to St Augustine’s Confessions, it would lead to his international renown as Thomas Merton. He voiced his disquiet over what he called ‘this shadow, this double, this writer who […] followed me into the cloister … I cannot lose him.’ In time, Merton came to the realisation through lived experience and his voracious reading of the Bible, St Augustine, the mystics, the individuation process propounded by Jung, Zen Buddhism and others that the ‘self’ he was trying to escape was, in fact, largely a ‘false’ self driven by the ego. This paper traces Merton’s journey from the that self to the authentic self which is found in God, in transcendence. Obsession with ‘the self’ as understood in the 21st century makes a study of Merton’s path to selfhood that much more vital. The advent of the ‘Selfie’, the self-promotion that social media affords and the examples of narcissistic individuals in positions of power gives the lie to lives where self-consciousness is confused with self-realisation. Nothing, as Merton discovered, could be further from the truth.
Niemogę go stracić”.
