The starting point for this paper is a general interest in the faint presence of methodologically oriented analyses within the history of education. The methodology of history of education is a rare term on the map of scientific categories (likewise the theory of history of education). One can multiply reasons for such situation, pointing institutional deficiencies of science or stressing the fact that this term is for some researchers unwelcome and should be criticized. Although such statements are worth tackling, the present considerations focus on different research trail, being an analysis of obstacles for crystallization of the methodology reflection within history of education. These are, e.g., the lack of paradigmatic clarity and also definitional instability of contemporary methodology of history as such. Nevertheless, one should not treat this situation as disadvantage, rather as a need of different historical imagination. Responses to this need should be developed and potential contexts of such historical imagination are presented in the final part of this paper.

Podstawowym tworzywem dla niniejszego tekstu jest lektura twórczości Marii Dudzikowej. Zgodnie m.in. z perspektywą unum necessarium (K. Maliszewski) można pokusić się o wskazanie głównych kategorii tej twórczości, a także tekstu, który mógłby być reprezentatywny dla całej twórczości Dudzikowej. Rozważania toczone są zatem wokół węzłowych tematów – metafory w kontekście edukacyjnym oraz statusu wiedzy potocznej – przy udziale kontekstowym takich postaci, jak Arystoteles, S. Hessen, T. Hołówka, J. Przyboś, L. Witkowski, by w finale sformułować wniosek, że dopóki kształcenie pedagogiczne będzie dotyczyć jedynie czasu, w którym samo zachodzi, a nie faktycznej pedagogicznej pracy, nie mamy żadnych szans na przełamanie redukcji socjalizacyjnej, atrofii politycznej, kulturowej unifikacji.
The core problem of this article stems from reading of works by Maria Dudzikowa. According to, among others, the perspective of unum necessarium (K. Maliszewski) main categories of these texts were pointed and key article suggested. The considerations taken concern nodal topics of Dudzikowa’s thought – that are: metaphor in educational use and pedagogical status of common knowledge – with the contextual contribution of texts of such figures as Aristotle, S. Hessen, T. Hołówka, J. Przyboś, L. Witkowski. The conclusion reached is that as long as the pedagogical education concerns only the time in which it occurs (that is time of studying instead of actual educational work), there is no chance to overcome too restrictive socialization, political atrophy, cultural unification, ect.

Is the term metahistory a repetition of the Aristotelian gesture of naming metaphysics? In 2023, half a century passes since the first publication of Hayden White’s famous book Metahistory. The Historical Imagination in Nineteenth-Century Europe. However, this classic, fairly well-known work – as well as its criticism – did not give life to the term metahistory, which in the horizon of research terms is enjoyed, for example, by metaphysics. In these considerations, I do not mean sentimental reminding about a term that would be valuable today for the sole reason that it once existed. Rather, it is an attempt to think about the path of enriching (re)thinking of the historical imagination – the latter, I believe, is the key to resisting the contemporary crises and impasses of today’s humanities.
Czy termin metahistoria jest powtórzeniem arystotelesowskiego gestu nazwania metafizyki? W 2023 roku mija pół wieku od pierwszego wydania słynnej książki Haydena White’a pt. Metahistory. The Historical Imagination In Nineteenth-Century Europe. Jednakże to klasyczne, dość powszechnie znane dzieło – a także jego krytyka – nie dały terminowi metahistoria życia, którym w horyzoncie terminów badawczych cieszy się choćby metafizyka.  W niniejszych rozważaniach nie chodzi mi o sentymentalne upominanie się o termin, który miałby być dziś cenny z samego tylko powodu, że niegdyś zaistniał. Raczej o próbę myślenia o ścieżce wzbogacania (prze)myślenia o wyobraźni historycznej – ta ostatnia, jak sądzę, jest kluczem dla oporu wobec współczesnych kryzysów i impasów dzisiejszej humanistyki.

Autor artykułu omawia treść książki Zygmunta Mysłakowskiego z 1938 roku zatytułowanej Totalizm czy kultura, wskazuje przy tym na współbrzmienie zawartych w niej diagnoz sytuacji społeczno-politycznej końca lat trzydziestych XX wieku z Timothy’ego Snydera opisem drugiej dekady XXI wieku. Możemy dostrzec analogię między dynamicznym wzrastaniem totalizmów w okresie międzywojnia a mechanizmami, które obserwować można w Europie, Ameryce, Rosji współcześnie. Zygmunt Mysłakowski i Timothy Snyder nie pozostawiają złudzeń w opisach swoich teraźniejszości. Okazuje się jednak, że w książce Mysłakowskiego obok głównej linii wywodu w postaci uznania demokracji współwystępuje – w warstwie merytorycznej niezgodne z tym pierwszym – uznanie dla postaci wodza (marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego). Autor tekstu omawia to napięcie jako kontekst diagnoz czasów nam współczesnych.
Łukasz Michalski discusses the content of Zygmunt Mysłakowski’s 1938 book Totalizm czy kultura (Totalism or Culture). He points to the consonance between book’s diagnoses of the socio-political situation in the late 1930s and Timothy Snyder’s description of the second decade of the twenty-first century. He argues that we can see an analogy between the dynamic growth of totalisms in the interwar period and the mechanisms that can be observed in Europe, America, Russia today. Mysłakowski and Snyder leave no illusions in their descriptions of their present milieus. However, in Mysłakowski’s book there is a cognitive incongruity inasmuch as, alongside the main line of the argument with its recognition of the value of democracy, there is also an appreciation of the figure of the leader (Marshal Józef Piłsudski). Michalski examines this tension as the context of the diagnoses of our contemporary situation.

Podjęte rozważania zainicjowane zostały przy okazji jubileuszowych okoliczności ćwierćwiecza istnienia Akademickiego Towarzystwa Andragogicznego i podejmują zagadnienia statusu i stanu badań nad historią edukacji dorosłych w kontekście polskim i niemieckim. W artykule dokonano przeglądu i porównania istotnych opracowań teorii historiografii edukacji dorosłych w Polsce i w Niemczech ostatnich dekad, co w efekcie pozwoliło dostrzec zaskakująco daleko idące podobieństwa w warstwie argumentacji czynionych diagnoz. Na tej podstawie w finale niniejszych analiz sformułowana została sugestia, iż problematyczność namysłu diachronicznego w badaniach nad edukacją dorosłych, bardziej niż z dyscyplinarnych, środowiskowych czy akademicko-strukutralnych niedomagań, może wynikać z współczesnej problematyczności uprawiania namysłu historycznego jako takiego.
The considerations were initiated on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Academic Andragogical Society and address issues of the status and advancement of research on the history of adult education. The article reviews and compares significant studies of the theory of historiography of adult education in Poland and Germany in recent decades, which in turn showed surprisingly farreaching similarities in argumentation and diagnoses. On this basis, a thesis was made: the problematic nature of diachronic reflection in research on adult education, is not only a question of structural-academic deficiencies but may also be the result of problematic nature of contemporary historical reflection as such.

The present paper is an attempt to discuss the issue of terminology management as a part of the translator or LSP training process as well as methods for its implementation in the MA programme “Linguistics in Specialised Communication”. The paper outlines the curricular approach to the teaching of terminology management through the delivery of a theoretical and a practical module. The subject of this work is to show the significance of the shape of a chip during automated cutting process. Selected ways of the influence on a chip shape are going to be shown. The main point is the assistance of chip fracture by a compressed stream of cutting-tool lubricant. This mechanism is shown on the example of tool system CoroTurn HP. The results of preliminary researches are presented graphically.
W pracy poruszono znaczenie postaci i kształtu wióra podczas obróbki w zautomatyzowanym - elastycznym systemie wytwarzania. Przedstawiono wybrane sposoby oddziaływania na postać wióra. Szczególny nacisk położono na wspomaganie procesu łamania wióra sprężonym strumieniem płynu obróbkowego. Na przykładzie systemu narzędziowego CoroTurn HP omówiono budowę i sposób mechanizm łamania wióra strumieniem sprężonej cieczy obróbkowej. Wyniki wstępnych badań rozpoznawczych przedstawiono w postaci graficznej.

Opis:
Floodplains of large rivers are rarely the subject of archaeological research. The excavations at the cemetery of the Przeworsk culture at Czersk, Piaseczno County, and studies on the modern settlement in the Urzecze (literally at-the-river’s) microregion near Warsaw yielded data about the settlement in the Middle Vistula Valley across the ages and prompted a non-invasive examination of the area. In 2017, a large-scale fieldwalking survey took place in the southern part of the Urzecze floodplain, covering an area of ca. 83 square kilometres (Figs. 1, 2). The already known sites were verified, and numerous new sites from various historical periods were discovered. The survey was complemented with traditional research, such as cartographical and historical searches, as well as new solutions in the form of a digital elevation model, obtained by laser scanning of the ground surface and geophysical and underwater prospection. The character of settlement in the area, specific due to the natural conditions, can be illustrated on the example of the settlement cluster near the village of Glinki, situated on the right bank of the Vistula, at the latitude of Góra Kalwaria (Fig. 3). Settlement in periodically flooded areas is focused only in a few selected places, where the shape of the terrain guarantees relatively safe shelter during periods of regular but hard to predict overflows and dangerous inundations. In the case of the cluster in Glinki, small, elevated areas, difficult to notice in the field and surrounded by oxbow lakes that form natural reservoirs (polders), are legible (Fig. 4). The oldest traces of settlement date back to the Bronze Age and Early Iron Age, then to the pre-Roman and Roman period and the Middle Ages, up to modern and contemporary times (Fig. 5, 6). The ‘insular’ nature of settlement (Fig. 9) in the floodplains of the Middle Vistula is confirmed by the observed presence of other, similar clusters situated on the former sandbanks and islands or their remains. The specificity of natural conditions (Fig. 7, 8, 10) and the rhythm of life in these areas influenced the flavour and specificity of the local culture, a phenomenon that has been well described for modern times (Ł.M. Stanaszek 2014). It is possible that in the earlier time periods some local differences within the large archaeological cultures are also to be expected. This can only be confirmed by future excavations in the area.

Archaeological research at the Khor Shambat site located in Omdurman in central Sudan has been conducted since 2012, when a team of scientists from the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology Polish Academy of Sciences (Poznań) launched a salvage exploration of a Neolithic site and cemetery damaged by road construction. Research is now conducted within the scope of a grant from the National Science Centre, Poland (No. 2015/17/D/HS3/01492). Three seasons of fieldwork since 2016 have focused on the extensive prehistoric settlement spanning nearly 4000 years, from the early Mesolithic to the late Neolithic. The site turned out to be attractive not only for Mesolithic hunters-gatherers and Neolithic shepherds, but also as a burial place for the Meroitic and post-Meroitic inhabitants of the region. A survey of about 1% of the surface of the Khor Shambat site (KSH 1) resulted in the discovery of 66 graves; 12 of these are probably post-Meroitic, and of these three presented a rich and interesting array of burial goods, including imports from the Far East. At the same time, KSH 1 is one of the southernmost post-Meroitic cemeteries.

Opis:
Benzo[a]pyrene is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon of well proved toxic effect on animal cells and tissues. We used chicken in ovo developmental model to verify its influence on selected parameters of the heart rhythm and on the antioxidative defense in the heart tissue. We determined that the dose of 1 mg/kg weight of eggs of benzo[a]pyrene strongly activates the glutathione-dependent antioxidative system, but it do not significantly affect the heart conducting system of the chicken embryo. We postulate that further study on the benzo[a]pyrene action during embryonic development of birds is recommended.

Celem artykułu jest prezentacja wyników badań dotyczących współpracy transgranicznejw Karelii, regionie położonym na pograniczu fińsko-rosyjskim. Analiza zjawiska została oparta na danych empirycznych zgromadzonych metodą badań terenowych, które były wykonane w trzech fińskich miejscowościach: Joensuu, Kitee i Ilomantsi. Na podstawie ankiet i wywiadów przeprowadzonych z przedstawicielami lokalnych społeczności ukazano charakter oraz intensywność różnych aktywności podejmowanych na zewnętrznej granicy Unii Europejskiej.
The aim of this article is to present the results of a research concerning transborder cooperation that takes place in the Russian-Finnish borderland of the Karelia region. The analysis was based on empirical data gathered through a questionnaire method, conducted in three Finnish towns: Joensuu, Kitee, Ilomantsi. The obtained data enabled the authors to identify the character and intensity of various activities undertaken on the external border of the European Union. As a result, at the end of the article, future prospects of formal and informal integration and cooperation between  Finns and Russians are enumerated and described.
