Every individual who works in caring professions must demonstrate a high level of personal resilien- ce, bravery, mental and physical endurance, and the ability to cope with work stress continuously and effectively. The paper deals with stress management in the caring professions, in which employees encounter different types of clients and are often confronted with unexpected, tense, and demanding moments that can momentarily shift the employees from their balance. It is necessary for every individual who works in the caring profession to be able to manage their emotions and difficult stressful situations. They should roughly know how they react in stressful situations, what helps them cope with them and how to quickly get into mental well-being and balance.

This article presents an overview of the basic concepts of stress along with their reference to the work situation. Consequences of severe or chronic stress are listed, at the employee and the organization level. The most important methods for diagnosis of stress in the organization and sample program s on stress management intervention are described. In conclusion, there is the proposal to principles on which should be based on interventions programs in this area.

In this study the effects of a worksite stress management intervention on changes in coping styles were examined. Ninety-five participants were randomly assigned to an experimental group participating in the intervention or to a control group with a delayed intervention. The stress management intervention was structured on enhancing so-called positive coping styles focused on problem solving and social diversion and on decreasing negative—emotion-focused and distraction—coping. The results showed that in the experimental group the level of positive coping styles significantly increased. The effect of decreased negative coping styles due to the intervention was observed only in the group of participants with a high level of negative affectivity.

Opis:
The importance of helping an employee to better cope with occupational stress as the aim of stress management interventions is presented. It particularly concerns the employees who have the poorest temperamental and personality potential for effective coping and should be the target of primary stress intervention and prevention. According to evidence, Type A workers are at risk of occupational stress and disease, especially when some personality features of Type A are accompanied by high reactivity. The concept of pathological Type A is introduced. The already existing programs of modifying Type A and the framework of a program based on the elements that have been established to be the most therapeutic for pathological Type A are presented.

Objectives: The purpose of this research was to study the role of mental imagery and stress management training in the performance of female swimmers. Methods: The present study included 30 female amateur swimmers (age range 12-15 years) of the swimming team of Zahedan (Iran). A total of 15 swimmers were randomly assigned to the experimental group and the other 15 to the control group. The experimental group received mental imagery and stress management training. Stress management was assessed with the Short Form of the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21), mental imagery was evaluated with the Movement Imagery Questionnaire-Revised (MIQ-R), and swimming performance swimming front crawl 25 meters. Findings: After the intervention program, the participants of the experimental group significantly improved their DASS-21 scores (mean difference between pre-test and post-test = 4.37), their MIQ-R scores (mean difference between pre-test and post-test = 4.54) and their swimming performance (mean difference between pre-test and post-test = 0.83 seconds). Conclusions: Mental imagery and stress management training can significantly improve the performance of female swimmers. These results should be considered by swimmers and coaches and should be applied to swimming training.

Work in uniformed services carries a high risk of losing health and even life. The occupational activities undertaken are related to exposure to factors belonging to the group of dangerous (accident) hazards. The work of uniformed services is also a work of high psychosocial risk. It can be said that the stress at work of firefighters or policemen is an everyday reality, which they deal with in different ways. This paper deals with the analysis of occupational stress at work of uniformed services on the example of employees of the State Fire Service. To analyze and assess occupational stress the European Foundation checklist for the Improvement of Working and Living Conditions has been used.

This article presents how to use two-parametric logistic model to make a stressors analysis. This model can be used to determine the strength of influence of stressors on individual respondents. There is also a proposition how to use forecasting to assist the process of stress management. Stress management should be based on preventing the appearance of stressors. With the proposed methods, it is possible to compare the strength of stressors in each period, to look how the planned change will be received by employees in the future. In addition, using the cluster analysis allows to find the best way of stressors grouping.

Numerous studies on work-related stress and stress management interventions have led to the formulation of some rules and theories. Nevertheless, the methodology of this kind is still imperfect. There is a tremendous need to do comparative research on different kinds of interventions. This article attempts to answer the following questions: Are entrepreneurs familiar with the idea of the stress management interventions? Have their implementations been introduced after taking into consideration the causes, costs and results of stress? Are the interventions effective or not? The results show that 45% of the employers know the idea of stress management interventions (SMI) and about 17% implement them. The most popular intervention is training supervisors in stress management and training employees to cope with stress. The results show also a relatively low quality of interventions of SMIs.
Все чаще проводимые исследования, посвященные изучению стресса на работе и программ его снижения, позволяют формулировать некоторые выводы и модели. Тем не менее способ изучения этих явлений по-прежнему несовершенен. Итак, существует потребность в сравнительных исследованиях разных программ в организациях, а также в создании инструкции по их внедрению. В настоящей статье описаны исследования, которые должны дать ответы на вопросы: Знают ли польские предприниматели идею программ снижения стресса? Были ли имплементации проведены с учетом изучения источников, цены и последствий стресса? Какова эффективность этих действий? Результаты показывают, что 45% предпринимателей знает идею программ снижения профессионального стресса, а около 17% внедряет их. Наиболее часто применяемыми интервенциями являются организуемые для менеджеров учебные курсы по управлению стрессом, а также предназначенные для работников занятия по обучению техникам снижения стресса. Однако анализ этих внедрений свидетельствует о наличии ряда недостатков в процессе имплементации.

The aim of this work was to investigate which strategies for coping with stress are chosen the most often by truck drivers. The purpose of this research was also to define the relation between perceived stress and stress management strategies used in this professional group. The study involved a group of 120 lorry drivers aged from 22 to 67 years. The drivers were examined with the Questionnaire for Subjective Evaluation of Work by Bohdan Dudek et al. (1999) and the Mini-COPE Questionnaire which is the shortened Polish version of the Charles Carver and his colleagues’ COPE Questionnaire in polish adaptation of Siegfried Juczyński and Nina Oginska-Bulik (2009). Drivers choose the most often search for instrumental support-strategy. The strongest positive correlation occurred between the overall levels of stress and taking psychoactive substances strategy. The strongest negative correlation occurred between the overall level of stress and planning strategy. The overall level of occupational stress tested drivers significantly correlated with all chosen coping strategies.

In the article, some advice and guidelines which can be used in the process of implementation of different kinds of work-life balance programs and other HRM activities are presented.

This study aims to conduct an Urdu translation and a validation of the ISBF Stress Management Skills Scale in two distinct phases. The first phase includes the forward-back translation method for ISBF. The second phase includes cross validation and the establishment of psychometric properties for the ISBF scale. A sample of 500 adults working in health care was taken from different hospitals and dispensaries. The first phase of the study includes the forward-back translation method. The second phase includes exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) with invariance measurement. The total reliability of the scale is reported to be .812. EFA revealed a two-factor structure for ISBF scale, with configural, metric and scalar invariance across males and females, and comparable latent mean scores for males and females. CFA showed goodness-of fit indices for the two factors. The scale showed good internal consistency values. The model fit value includes the value for the goodness of fit index, which was .979, for the adjusted goodness-of fit index: .961, for the comparative fit index: .993, for the incremental fit index: .993, and for the root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA) value: .033. Good values of composite reliability and convergent validity were measured for both dimensions of the scale. The scale shows that this diagnostic tool can help to assess the skills used to manage stress. For criterion validity, the coping Inventory for Stressful Situations (CISS-21) was used, which showed positive correlations. The subscale of stress management was taken from the Health Promoting Life Style Profile II (HPLP-II), which also showed positive correlations. Significant mean differences were found between scores of healthcare workers with stress management skills and with those without stress management skills. The group of mean differences indicated the females have greater stress management skills as compared to men. The Urdu translated and validated instrument will be helpful in understanding behavior in healthcare settings.

Purpose: The main purpose of the paper is to systematize and analyze relation between the role of leadership and stress management in the organizations, indicate sources of stress as well as to determine possible responses to such situations with regard to their impact on the organization. Design/methodology/approach: The approach applied in the paper is of descriptive-empirical nature. The research methods involved in this paper are: induction, deduction, literature studies, as well survey and data analysis. The method of critical and comparative analysis was used in relation to the views presented in the literature. Findings: The paper ends with a brief presentation of research findings which correspond to the formulated research questions on most common causes of stress in organizations and its impact on the organization and people as well as their behaviors and reactions. Research implications: Future research directions should focus on further, expanded research exploration in the area, taking into account various industries. Additional work is needed to disseminate research findings among managers and employees and to implement them in appropriate stress management trainings. Practical implications: The results of the research discussed in the paper have a number of practical implications mainly for the managers in terms of use of stress management tools and improvement of stress management strategies. Social implications: Building awareness of stress management issues. Originality/value The paper has a cognitive value for managers as well as employees working in organizations. Results have theoretical as well as practical implications in search of solutions to stress management.
