Opis:
In this research, a mathematical model is derived to enable analytical determination of effective ultimate forces in the process of plasticization of the surface layer of wood. The experimentally determined thermo-mechanical properties of the material subjected to the process of plasticization are used in defining the structure of the model. The analysis of plastic strain in the layer in consideration is based on a generalised model of an ideally rigid-plastic medium, including certain modifications. Considering the anisotropic properties of wood, the Azzi-Tsai-Hill (ATH) strength criterion is applied which takes into account variation in the response of the loaded material depending on the direction. The article presents also results of FEM analysis of the same process of hot rolling of wood.

Opis:
PAPRs (Partially Acidulated Phosphate Rocks) are the most prospective phosphate fertilizers, mainly through the use of the smaller amount of reagents and the ability to utilize low-grade phosphate rocks with a low content of P2O5. The aim of our studies was to investigate the temperature and moisture infl uence on the curing process of PAPR-type fertilizer products. Fertilizer preparations of a PAPR-type were obtained in the Atlas model-type apparatus (Syrris Ltd.). The curing temperature and the moisture content were controlled by the heating time of the reaction vessel and the degree of PAPR stoichiometric norm (?PAPR). Our results indicate that increasing the curing temperature of the PAPR-type fertilizer product by 10oC can lead to a decrease in the moisture content of the fi nal product by an average value of 1.5% w/w. Additionally reducing the moisture content by 1% w/w may correspond to an increase in P2O5 content by an average value of 0.5% w/w.

Opis:
Recent findings on some unsolved powder rheology problems and new challenges regarding mechanochemical powder processing and flow modelling are presented. There is remarkable difference in rheology when processing moist powders in static or dynamic conditions. Despite of regular trends of shear stress changes with humidity found in the both cases, some exceptions revealed the significant impact of particles size and their hygroscopic nature as example. Mechanochemical methods of high-energy interactive mixing of highly cohesive powders doped with nano-sized solid admixture enabled their flowability to be improved considerably. Using statistical approach, more general routine is proposed that allow the optimal mixing parameters to be reliably predicted with limited number of experiments needed. Ability to flow of some hygroscopic powders was examined with DEM method and extreme sensitivity of model output to input particle properties was found. The common DEM routine towards powder flow prediction is therefore suggested to be replaced with approach featuring in using DEM method to identify some unknown powder flow factors.

Opis:
The presented research was aimed at searching for an exact and effective method of determining moisture content in traditional moulding sands. By measuring resonance frequency and quality factor of a waveguide resonance cavity, relative permittivity was determined for different synthetic moulding sands. Analysis of the presented results confirms a linear relation between relative permittivity values and moisture content values in the selected traditional moulding sands. The obtained linear relationship can be used as a reference characteristic for evaluation of humidity of moulding sand.

Opis:
A device with a frequency-modulated output signal has been developed to increase the sensitivity and accuracy of measuring moisture content in crude oil and petroleum products in the range of 0~20%. The main element of the device is a self-oscillator transducer based on a transistor structure with negative differential resistance. A capacitive sensor in the form of a capacitive cylindrical structure with cylindrical electrodes was used to determine moisture content in crude oil and petroleum products. Electric permittivity of a two-component mixture of oil and water was estimated and the capacitance of the humidity-sensitive capacitive cylindrical structure with cylindrical electrodes was calculated. An electrical diagram of the device for measuring and controlling the humidity of crude oil and petroleum products has been developed. The relative error of converting the humidity of oil and petroleum products into capacitance which was caused by the change in oil temperature, was determined to be 0.225%. Values of relative errors of the device for measuring the humidity of oil and petroleum products are as follows: 1.355 · 10-5% is caused by instability of the oscillator frequency, 0.01% is caused by fluctuations in the supply voltage of the self-oscillator transducer, 0.05% is caused by a change in ambient temperature by 1°C. For the developed device, which used errors of the first and second type, the reliability of humidity control of oil and petroleum products has been determined to be 0.9591.

Opis:
In sea transport, a very important thing is an assignment of cargo to a particular class of storage climate conditions and it is carried out on the basis of the requirements that cargo places upon its storage atmosphere. The water content of black tea must not fall below 2%, as the product otherwise becomes haylike and its essential oils readily volatilize, while on the other hand, it must not exceed 9% as it then has a tendency to grow mould and become musty. Therefore, tea requires particular temperature, humidity/moisture and possibly ventilation conditions. In this context, tea is a hygroscopic material that has the ability to absorb or desorb water in response to temperature and relative humidity of the atmosphere surrounding it. The moisture content of tea is one of the most important variables affecting its chemical and sensory properties. Therefore, to explore and predict the behaviour during transport of tea, its equilibrium moisture content must be determined for a range of transport temperatures and relative humidities. The present paper focuses on the evaluate the hygroscopic properties of tea from Rwanda with different degree of fragmentation based on isotherms of water vapour sorption and characteristics selected parameters of the surface microstructure determining transport conditions and therefor microbiological stability of teas.

Opis:
This paper presents the study of the relationship between electrical properties and physical characteristics of the soil. Measures of apparent electrical resistivity of the soil were made for different types of soil, varying moisture content gradually while maintaining a constant compaction, and then varying the compaction and relating it to a constant humidity. Development of a correlation surface is proposed in order to identify granulometry of the soil from moisture and compaction measurements. For the study of spatial variability, two areas were chosen to allow the change of moisture content and compaction in order to verify the measurement capacity of apparent electrical resistivity of the soil as methodology to identify change in soil dynamics. Results obtained show correlations among apparent electrical resistivity of the soil, moisture, soil compaction and clay content.
