Opis:
The leaching with acids is one of many methods used for recovery of valuable components from industrial wastes. The processing and neutralization of this type of waste is very difficult due to toxic properties. This work shows the results of aluminum leaching from industrial black dross with oxalic acid depending on temperature, acid concentration, effect of liquid to solid ratio (L/S) and time process. The oxalic acid has not been used so far for processing of aluminum black dross. The main purpose of this work was to determine the optimal conditions of this process. The results show that the maximum leaching efficiency of aluminum (75.2 %) was obtained with a liquid to solid ratio of 20:1 using 0.5 mol·dm-3 oxalic acid at 75 °C for 3 h.

Leaching process of Jiroft refractory manganese ore was investigated. The effects of operating parameters such as liquid to solid ratio, pulp temperature, sulfuric acid concentration, and oxalic acid concentration were studied and the optimization was done through the response surface methodology (RSM) based on central composite design (CCD) model. The recoveries of Mn, Fe and Si were selected as response of design. The optimum condition was determined by ANOVA, indicating that the liquid to solid ratio, oxalic acid concentration and pulp temperature for Mn recovery and liquid to solid ratio, pulp temperature and sulfuric acid concentration for Fe recovery and liquid to solid ratio for Si recovery were the most effective parameters, respectively. Under the optimum conditions of liquid to solid ratio= 11.8%, pulp temperature= 700 C, sulfuric acid concentration= 40 g/L and oxalic acid concentration= 35 g/L, 71.1%, 4.67% and 0.6% of Mn, Fe and Si were recovered, respectively.

The aim of this study was to investigate manganese and zinc recoveries from spent zinc-carbon and alkaline battery powder. The effect of sulfuric acid concentration, ascorbic acid dosage, reaction temperature and leaching time on zinc and manganese dissolutions was investigated. The optimum reductive acid leaching conditions were determined as: 3 hours, 70 °C, 0.5 M of sulfuric acid concentration, 13 g/dm3 of ascorbic acid dosage, 1/20 g/cm3 of solid/liquid ratio and 200 rpm of stirring speed. Under these conditions, dissolution efficiencies were 99.99% for Zn and 99.25% for Mn. In addition, dissolution kinetics of manganese was undertaken, and the activation energy was found to be 7.04 kJ/mol. Using 3 M NaOH as precipitating agent at room temperature, 95.35% of Zn (at pH 8) and 93.66% of Mn (at pH 10) were precipitated from the leaching solution. Under the same conditions, using 3 M KOH, precipitations of Zn and Mn were 91.63% and 96.39%, respectively. Based on the experimental results, a flowsheet of zinc and manganese recovery was proposed.

Opis:
Scandium and its compounds have excellent properties, and are widely used in cutting-edge fields such as optics, electronics, and alloys. Thus, scandium is an important strategic metal. However, scandium is extremely sparsely distributed in the earth's crust, rarely occurs as an independent mineral, and requires a complex recovery process. Therefore, the study of the extraction of scandium is of great practical significance. This study examined the leaching test and kinetics of scandium under the acid leaching system of refractory anatase ore. Under appropriate two-stage countercurrent leaching conditions, the first stage of the particle size of fraction of -0.074 mm 82.6%, initial H2SO4 concentration of 6 mol/L, leaching temperature of 100 °C, acid/solid ratio of 3 ml/g, stirring speed of 300 rpm, and leaching time of 50 min; and the second stage of the initial H2SO4 concentration of 11 mol/L, leaching temperature of 150 °C, acid/solid ratio of 4 ml/g, stirring speed of 300 rpm, and leaching time of 50 min, a scandium leaching rate of 96.98% was achieved. The kinetics of scandium leaching conformed to a shrinking-core model, and sulfuric acid concentration and temperature were the most important parameters affecting the scandium leaching rate. The kinetic analysis of scandium leaching at different sulfuric acid concentrations showed that as the concentration increased, the sulfuric acid leaching of scandium changed from being chemical reaction-controlled to internal diffusion-controlled, and the apparent reaction order was 1.2429. The kinetics of scandium leaching at different temperatures showed that the sulfuric acid leaching of scandium was reaction-controlled and the apparent activation energy was 42.21 kJ-mol-1.

Opis:
In this work extraction of copper and iron from a reverberatory furnace slag was studied. A two-step extraction procedure was followed. The first step was roasting of the slag in the presence of sulphuric acid at temperatures between 150 and 800oC. The second step was leaching of the resulting calcine with distilled water. The maximum copper extraction of about 94% was achieved. In this case, the slag was roasted at 250oC with sulphuric acid higher of about 33% than that stoichiometrically required, followed by water leaching of calcine at 50oC. About 55% of iron was also dissolved under these conditions. On the other hand, for the calcine obtained at sulphation temperature of 600oC, extraction of copper in a water leaching stage was still relatively high (about 79%), whereas that of iron was comparatively low (about 6%). Dissolution of copper and iron from the calcine was found to be very fast and was complete within the first few minutes. The water temperature in the leaching step was found to have no effect on extraction of copper and iron from the calcine in the range of 30 to 85oC.

The leaching of low grade zinc oxide mining tailings by organic acid as a leaching agent was investigated. Zinc was extracted successfully from sample by citric acid leaching. The effects of solid-to- liquid ratio, acid concentration, reaction time, temperature and ore particle size on the leaching efficiency were studied. The results obtained showed that particle sizes and reaction time had not any significant effect on the leaching recovery of zinc from smithsonite in the sizes range of 40-350 μm. Under conditions: temperature of 80ºC, reaction time of 60 min, citric acid concentration of 0.5 mol/L, and solid to liquid ratio of 1:10, 82% of zinc could be recovered.

Trioxoboric acid (H3BO3) is a white weakly soluble acid produced from boron minerals. This acid type was used for the first time in this study for ash and sulfur removal from coal. Ash and sulfur are the most important impurities in the content of coal and have significant effects on environmental pollution. It is possible to remove ash and sulfur by H3BO3 leaching. However, there have not been enough studies in this area and the performance of trioxoboric acid has not been fully demonstrated. In this study, leaching performance of trioxoboric acid and other strong acids (hydrofluoric, hydrochloric and sulfuric acids) has been demonstrated. Trioxoboric acid removed ash and sulfur from coal by 41.18% and 32.16%, respectively. This acid can compete especially with hydrochloric and sulfuric acid in sulfur removal. However, hydrofluoric acid provided the best results in ash and sulfur removal.

Anatase, as an important titanium resource, is attracting more and more attention in research and application. In this study, an efficient process of comprehensively extracting the titanium and other valuable elements from the anatase mineral was proposed. The effect of particle size, stirring speed, initial sulphuric acid concentration, solid-to-liquid ratio, and reaction temperature on the leaching rate of titanium from anatase was investigated. Under appropriate two-stage countercurrent leaching conditions, with the first stage of the liquid-to-solid ratio of 1/3 g/cm3, reaction temperature of 120 °C, initial acid concentration of 11 mol/dm3, residence time of 30 min, stirring speed of 200 rpm, and the second stage of the liquid-to-solid ratio of 1/3 g/cm3, reaction temperature of 200 °C, initial acid concentration of 13 mol/dm3, residence time of 30 min, and stirring speed of 200 rpm, over 99% TiO2, 99% Al2O3, and 97% Sc2O3 were extracted respectively with quartz still remained in the residue. X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence spectrometer, and scanning electron microscopy/energy-dispersive spectroscopy were used to characterize the anatase samples before and after the leaching. Additionally, the leaching kinetics analysis indicated that both acid concentration and temperature were the most significant parameters for the leaching process. And, the titanium leaching reaction rate was controlled by the diffusion of reactants through the residual layer.

Opis:
Currently there is a decline in the world’s nickel sulfide deposits, which are the main source of this metal. Due to the fact, that more than 70% of nickel reserves are in the form of oxide ores, more attention is nowadays paid on laterites. Leaching processes using different organic acids are widely described in the literature, but there is a lack of works linking influence of leaching process with the surface area and particle size distribution. Therefore, the main aim of this study was to examine how citric acid produced by microorganisms and citric acid added as chemical affected the specific surface and particle size distribution of mineral particles. The laterite ore was obtained from Szklary deposit, Poland. This study also compared the effect of chemical citric acid and filtrate after cultivation of Aspergillus niger on nickel extraction. It was observed that higher nickel recovery correspond to higher surface area of particles. The highest yield of nickel extraction was observed for a citric acid concentration of 1 mol/dm3 (67%). The specific surface area after leaching was 159 m2/g. An analysis of particle size distribution showed increase in the median particle size of particles after leaching with citric acid. It may suggest that dissolution of Polish laterites follows a shrinking core-shrinking particle model.

The effect of time, temperature, the catalyst particle size and the ratio of the catalyst weight to the leaching solution volume (S:L) on the treatment of spent vanadium catalyst components was determined using citric acid solutions at atmospheric pressure. The optimal parameters of catalyst leaching in 10% acid solutions at atmospheric pressure are: T = 323 K, t = 4 h, the particle size of less than 0.160 mm, the S:L ratio below 0.1. Under these conditions it was possible to dissolve about 90% of vanadium and potassium compounds and more than 60% of iron compounds contained in the catalyst. These results fall within the scope of research on a comprehensive method for recovering spent vanadium catalyst components.

Opis:
This work focuses on the hydrometallurgical processing of EAF steelmaking dust in laboratory conditions. The behavior of calcium under the influence of sulphuric acid as the leaching agent is discussed. Due to calcium presence the acid is continuously consumed, gradually leaching the calcium phase from EAF dust as well as other zinc- and iron-containing phases. A thorough composition analysis of the input sample of EAF dust was performed. A kinetic study of calcium showed that its leaching is a very fast process, but most of the calcium reacting with sulphuric acid is precipitated from the solution in the form of CaSO4∙2H2O. This causes greater sulphuric acid consumption, and therefore it is necessary to study the calcium behavior during processing of EAF dust. This work is narrowed with calcium behavior during leaching of EAF dust in sulphuric acid and effect of calcium to extraction other metals into solution.

Copper extraction from the slag was typically found to be twice as high as that from the slag flotation tailings. Hydrogen peroxide was determined to be the best lixiviant. Thus, copper and iron extractions were 63.4% and 48.6%, respectively, when leaching the slag with 3 M H2O2, after 120 minutes of reaction at room temperature. Copper dissolution was generally found to be the dominant process within the first 60 minutes of reaction, whereas iron dissolution dominated afterwards.
