Opis:: Measurements of 78 red deer calves were carried out taking into consideration their sex and age classes, i.e. calves harvested from 25 September to 30 November – younger age class and from 1 December to 15 January – older age class. It was demonstrated that the body weight of the average calve from the hunting area under study is about 43 kg, the length is over 155 cm and height at the withers and rump are 100 and 111.5 cm, respectively. Sex appeared to be the factor affecting the weight and size of red deer calves. It was proved that the body weight and size depend on the date of culling in the hunting season.

Opis:: The aim of this article was to determine the growth and development of the Mazurian population of red deer (Cervus elaphus L.) on the basis of morphological parameters of antlers. Data from measurements of stags harvested in the Olsztyn Province during three hunting seasons 1988/1989, 1989/1990 and 1990/1991 were taken for analyses. The sampled group contained selective, shootable and prospective stags. Stags from the last two groups formed the class of strong stags, i.e. stags with antlers developed above the standard for a given age being the basic material for this study.

Opis:: The aim of the study was to demonstrate how the trophy quality of antlers of the red deer stags living in two large forest complexes in the Mazowsze region (central Poland) differs from those inhabiting other regions of the country. The study used the data describing the body and antlers weight of 272 stags shot in 2005−2014 in two large, separated from each other, forest complexes of Spała and Gostynin. The stags from both forest complexes do not differ from each other in body weight and antler forms. The average body weight of the stags at the age of 12 is approximately 120−140 kg. The characteristics of antler forms of the stags harvested by hunters may not reflect the actual state because of the use, in practice, of the selection criteria instead of random killing. The most frequently harvested antler forms of the selection stags in the age classes of 3−5 years and 6−8 years are regular eight−pointers and irregular twelve−pointers, respectively. However, the small sample size used and the specific rules of harvesting the older stags do not allow to characterize the antler forms of the stags older than 9 years. In the autumn−winter period, a decrease in the body weight of the rutting stags at the age of over 6 years, as well as of the young, 2−5−year−old, stags is observed. The loss in body weight in young stags is approximately 20%, while in older stags – 35%. The decrease in body weight in the autumn−winter period is not stable. The largest, representing nearly 50% of the total weight loss, was recorded after the rut. In the period between November and December even a slight increase in body weight was noted followed again by a decline by the end of the winter.

Opis:: The objective of this research was to determinate importance of grass and meadow species in red deer diet and influence, that is caused in open habitats by these animals. Study was based on foreign and local literature review. Meadow and grass species are, on average, 1/3 of plants in red deer diet, and in some places could be preferred form of forage. Availability of meadow habitats in red deer territory can reduce negative impact of this specie on forest and agricultural plantations. Influence of red deer on open habitats depends on many factors, among others – productivity of habit.

Opis:: The examination of 18 abomasums and 23 excrement samples of red deer from the Strzałowo Forest District (Pisz Primeval Forest) showed infestation of these animals with 6 gastric−intestinal nematode species (Spiculopteragia boehmi, Ostertagia leptospicularis, Ostertagia kolchida, Spiculopteragia mathevossiani, Trichostrongylus axei and Nematodirus roscidus) and 3 pulmonary nematode species (Elaphostrongylus cervi, Varestrongylus sagittatus and Dictyocaulus eckerti). As a result of performed disinfestation, the average infestation level of the animals with S. boehmi nematodes and female nematodes from the family Ostertagiinae was reduced and the infestation with D. eckerti was eliminated.

Opis:: W celu zachowania ciągłości ekologicznej buduje się różnego typu przejścia dla zwierząt nad lub pod drogami.W pracy przedstawiono badania oceniające przydatność wybudowanego przejścia na podstawie częstości migracji jelenia szlachetnego. Monitoring przejścia prowadzono specjalnie zaprojektowanym zestawem telewizyjnym w okresie od marca 2008 r do lutego 2009 r. Analiza zapisów wykazała, że prawidłowo zaprojektowane i wybudowane przejście typu górnego jest akceptowane przez zwierzynę grubą, w tym także przez jelenia szlachetnego. Stwierdzono, że częstotliwość migracji różni się w poszczególnych porach roku, a nawet w miesiącach.
In order to preserve ecological continuity, different types of crossings for animals are built over or under roads. The paper presents studies evaluating the suitability of the constructed crossing based on the frequency of migration of red deer. Monitoring of the crossing was conducted using a specially designed ITV unit in the period fromMarch 2008 to February 2009.Analysis of recordings showed that a properly designed and constructed overhead crossing is accepted by large game, including red deer. It was found that the frequency of migration varies in individual seasons of the year or even months.

Opis:: The aim of the study was to examine individual quality of red deer males occurring in the Dulowa Forest (S Poland). Carcass weight as well as form and weight of antlers were the main criteria. Analysed deer characterized with good quality of the inter−individual, as shown by the higher (or similar) average carcass and antlers weight compared to the individuals hunted in other regions. In addition high quality of the inter−individual demonstrated by the fact that 17,4% deer had antlers with a medal. The maximum average weight of antlers (7.29 kg) was observed for thirteen−years−old animals, while the culmination of carcass weight (159.8 kg) occurred for twelve−years−old individuals. Weight of the antlers was significantly correlated with age (r=0.88), carcass weight (r=0.84) and form of antlers (r=0.79).
