Opis:
Demographic changes point to the need to pay attention to the characteristics, needs and opportunities of people at old age. The article presents changes in verbal communication taking place as a result of physiological aging. It is written the transformation of speech due to changes in the structural and functional characteristics of this stage of life. It is also described a transformation in the field of programming language, using a dictionary specific phenomena of communication: OTV (Off Target Verbosity) and TOT (Tip-of-the Tongue) and attention is paid to intergenerational communication.

The aim of the study is to outline the role of language as the most effective tool of communication accessible to human beings in the context of international communication. Intercultural communication allows to indicate the diversity of intentions with which we enter into communicative relationships. It also highlights the need to take into account cultural difference in order to achieve understanding: the greater the extent to which diversity is taken into account and the greater the accompanying effort to reconstruct cultural beliefs, the higher the efficiency of communication.

Przedmiotem tego artykułu jest mowa, język i komunikacja z osobami starszymi, którzy są niekiedy naznaczeni chorobą i/lub niepełnosprawnością. Europejskie społeczeństwo gwałtownie się starzeje. Trzydzieści lat temu Europę nazwano „podstarzałą Europą”, a dzisiaj powiada się, że Europa jest „starcem świata”… Dziś ludność Polski to „najszybciej starzejące się społeczeństwo w Europie…”. W artykule przedstawiono aktualne demograficzne, medyczne i społeczne problemy związane z starzejącym się społeczeństwem. Ostatnie dziesięciolecia przyniosły nową kategorię gerontologiczną i lingwistyczną zarazem, jaką jest elderspeak, czyli mowa starcza. W schorzeniach neurodegeneracyjnych i naczyniowych występują cztery „A” się: Amnezja, Agnozja, Apraksja i Afazja. Afazja powoduje trudności w konwersacji i komunikacji interpersonalnej. Paul Grice sformułował wiele lat temu klasyczne zasady kooperacyjnej konwersacji oraz maksymy komunikacyjne i/lub konwersacyjne, które obejmują: a) ilość przekazywanych informacji, b) jakość informacji, czyli ważność bądź znaczenie komunikatu, oraz c) odniesienie, czyli stosunek do osoby chorej. Artykuł zamyka konkluzja, że konieczne staje się tworzenie w najbliższych latach – w obrębie geragogiki specjalnej – nowej dziedziny logopedii, jaką będzie gerontologopedia, a przede wszystkim istnieje potrzeba stworzenia na polskich uczelniach nowego kierunku studiów podyplomowych z zakresu gerontologopedii.
The subject of this paper is speech, language and communication of elderly people, which is sometimes marked by disease and/or by disability. European society is rapidly ageing. Thirty years ago Europe was named “oldish Europe”, today is “an old man of the world.” The Polish population today is “the most quickly ageing society in Europe…”. The paper presents real demographic, medical, and social problems – i.e. the health condition of the oldest generation. The last decades have brought a new gerontological and linguistic category called elderspeak. In vascular and neurodegenerational illnesses we have four “A”: Amnesia, Agnosia, Apraxia, and Aphasia. Aphasia makes difficult conversation and interpersonal communication. Paul Grice formulated many years ago the classic principles of cooperative conversation and communication: – the quantity of information, – the quality of information, that is the validity or the meaning of messages, and – reference, that is relation to a sick person. The paper ends with the conclusion that in the future it is necessary to create – on the ground of special geragogics – a new field of logopaedics – gerontologopaedics, and above all to create at Polish universities postgraduate studies in gerontologopaedics.

Where should we seek the roots of natural language? Common sense suggests that human language should have somehow evolved from primitive vocal communication, which is also, to some extent, present among other animals, especially since primary humans mean of communication is speech. Some biological and psychological evidences, however, both from observation and experiments, indicate that for the missing evolutionary link between human language and animal (apes) communication one should take chimpanzee gestural communication, the only undoubtedly intentional non-human mean of communication. In this paper, I present the evidences for the aforementioned theory and draw some conclusions regarding the issue of two “sources” of language – biological and cultural evolution.

The author describes an innovative project of teaching/ learning the native language (Czech), emphasizing modern features of the concept, such as: the use of constructivist indications; text-centricity; student activation; respect for their communication needs; application of the criterion of usefulness of acquired skills in the extracurricular life of students; basing the educational process on students’ preconcepts, introducing language learning into a function- al and communicative framework. The author also points to the observance of the language teaching principles that determine the concept, such as: complexity; the relationship between the student’s cognitive and linguistic development, including basing of teaching on a three- -phase model of learning and teaching which uses a constructivist framework of learning (evocation – awareness of meaning – reflection (evokace – uvědomění si významu – reflexe: E-U-R). The further principles are: orientation on learner and the principle of topicality of linguistic knowledge. All of them condition the appropriate innovative concept of language acquisition as a fresh and effective proposal – ready for implementation.

In the introductory part, the author defines the basic terms used in the article: culture, cultural norms, language-communication skills, knowledge and its deficits, intercultural communication in Polish-Russian relations and the concept of defective communication. The purpose of this article is to describe the various causes of defective communication in Polish-Russian relations. In the following sections of the article, the author describes and exemplifies symptoms of defective communication, the over-ethnic causes of communication failures, the ethnic Polish-Russian determinants of defective interpersonal communication related to knowledge deficits, Russian language skills and stricte cultural determinants of unfortunate communication in selected spheres of life.

The aim of the study was to show the principles of nonverbal communication achieved with clothing by using Roman Jakobson’s linguistic method. As demonstrated and established here, clothes and their functions can be translated into verbal and written language. The language of fashion, costume and stage design can be analysed in terms of their function and symbolism. Based on the language function scheme, clothing can be interpreted as the language of communication and as a system. Using purely linguistic methods, examples of various clothing analyses demonstrate the clothing function as a visual sign system, which is equal to the linguistic sign system, language and communication. Different kinds of communication can be achieved through garments, as explained by the examples and discussion selected and described.
Celem pracy było pokazanie zasad komunikowania niewerbalnego osiągniętego przy użyciu odzieży, stosując metodę lingwistyczną Romana Jakobsona. Jak wykazano i ustalono w pracy, ubrania i ich funkcje można przetłumaczyć na język słowny i pisany. Język mody, stroju i scenografii można analizować pod kątem ich funkcji i symbolizmu. W oparciu o schemat funkcjonowania języka, odzież można interpretować jako język komunikacji i jako system. Przy użyciu metod czysto językowych, przykłady różnych analiz odzieżowych wykazują funkcję odzieżową jako system znakowania wizualnego, który jest równy systemowi językowemu, językowi i komunikacji. W pracy stwierdzono, ze dzięki odzieży mogą być osiągnięte różne rodzaje komunikacji, co opisano i wyjaśniono na wybranych przykładach.

Celem artykułu jest ukazanie strategii wspomagania komunikacji społecznej seniorów poprzez wykorzystanie gestu oraz form parateatralnych. W prowadzonych analizach wykorzystano odniesienia do badań z zakresu neuropsychologii, psychogeriatrii oraz fenomenologicznie zorientowanej koncepcji umysłu ucieleśnionego. W tym kontekście ukazano związki pomiędzy tą ostatnią kategorią, a pamięcią ciała oraz badaniami nad funkcjonowaniem neuronów lustrzanych. Wskazano również relacje między aktywizacją ruchową i językowo-komunikacyjną seniorów a pobudzaniem obwodów neuronalnych odpowiedzialnych za procesy kognitywne, zwrócono także uwagę na funkcje układów gestycznych oraz etapy wprowadzania form parateatralnych w procesach wspomagania kompetencji językowo-komunikacyjnych osób starszych. Artykuł wpisuje się w interdyscyplinarną refleksję nad jakością życia seniorów w XXI wieku oraz stanowi element większego projektu nt. psychokulturowych, gerontologicznych i logopedycznych uwarunkowań komunikacji międzygeneracyjnej.
The purpose of the article is to show the strategies for supporting social communication of older adults by using gestures and paratheatrical forms. In the conducted analyses the authors have used references to research in the field of neuropsychology, psychogeriatrics and a phenomenologically-oriented concept of embodied cognition. In this context, links between that last category and body memory, as well as research into mirror neurons, are shown. Also, the relationship between motion activation, language communication of seniors and stimulating neural circuits responsible for cognitive processes is pointed out. Moreover, attention is paid to the functions of gesture systems, as well as the stages of introducing paratheatrical forms into the processes of supporting language communication competences of seniors. The paper fits into the interdisciplinary reflection on the quality of life in old age in the 21st century, and is also part of a larger project concerning psychocultural, gerontological and logopedic conditions of intergenerational communication.

The purpose of the study was to analyse differences in speech, language and communication skills between students with mild intellectual disabilities using a narrative text written in easy-to-read text (experimental group), and students with mild intellectual disabilities using a book containing the same content but written in ordinary text (control group). The results indicate that students with mild intellectual disabilities who listen to the easy-to-read text exhibit superior communication skills in individual conversations with the teacher. Significant differences occur in all three measured variables. The research is important contribution in understanding of benefits of easy-to-read texts.

The article aims to describe the main assumptions of the so-called “Great Theory of Literacy” formulated by authors such as Walter Jackson Ong, Jack Goody, Erick Havelock and other researchers, representing various fields of science (philology, history, anthropology, communication, etc.). The basic assumption of the theory is the existence of profound differences between orality and literacy, which affect the general shape of communication, culture and society. The theory I analyze focuses primarily on confrontation, on contrasting the characteristics of oral and written language, as well as the accompanying mental and communicational contexts. At the same time, it should be noted that the Great Theory of Literacy has provoked many polemic voices that criticize the findings of Ong, Havelock and Goody. In this text I present the most important critical voices and arguments and try to determine to what extent the methodological characteristics of both the Great Theory of Literacy and theories formulated in counteraction to it could contribute to the dispute and to what extent this is a constructive discussion. My main hypothesis concerns the relatively small part of linguistic reflection in the reflection of both theoreticians of the Great Theory of Literacy and their opponents, which can significantly contribute to difficulties with the use of theoretical constructs on the basis of language and communication practice.
