Opis:
The subject of research is the numerical and experimental analysis of a thin-walled plate with the cut-out, made of the laminate and subjected to the axial compression. In order to ensure the stable plate work in the postcritical range, it need to force its work by higher flexural-torsional form of buckling. The scope of the research included nonlinear numerical analysis with Finite Element Method (FEM) and experimental verification of calculation results. For the composite material in numerical calculations, the model of orthotropic material in the flat state of tension was defined. For the mapping of the plate element coating finite elements of type SHELL was applied with a shape function of the second order to allow the mapping of the composite structure for the element thickness. The experimental research was carried out in a special grips providing the articulated support of the upper and lower edges of the plate. The deformation registration of compression structures were carried out with resistance extensometry. This allowed to define of postcritical equilibrium paths of real structure, showing the dependence of the force to displacement. The instrument used was a numerical program ABAQUS®.

In the paper, a literature study of a modelling methods of a photocurable materials developed by additive techniques is presented. The main aim was to assess which material model is appropriate for such kinds of matter. The Finite Element Method and the LS Dyna software was assumed as a possible environment for the investigations. The material models that can be apply for photopolymers analysing were described as well as examples of such materials. The conclusions is that the material model selection must be based on the observation of the material behaviour and the possible loading conditions (e.g. strain rate).

This paper deals with the punctureability of a steel plate by a projectile at different angles of attack. The effect of the projectile angle on the force required to penetrate a plate made of A36 steel is presented using Finite Element Method calculation software. Using Abaqus software, a dynamic model of a projectile striking a plate was modelled and the force required to penetrate a 5 mm thick steel plate was presented. The intro-duction gives an overview of the genesis of the topic and a brief historical background. The chapter on numerical analysis presents the numerical model used and how the simulation was modelled. In the conclusions, a summary of the results was formulated and conclusions were drawn regarding the observations and insights of the analysis. The force required to penetrate the plate was observed to increase with increasing projectile angle of attack and it was found that, as the angle of the plate increased, the force required to penetrate increased.

Opis:
The paper deals with the design approach of a subdefinite mechatronic system and focuses on the sizing stage of a gearbox of a wind turbine based on the interval computation method. Indeed, gearbox design variables are expressed by intervals to take into account the uncertainty in the estimation of these parameters. The application of the interval computation method allows minimizing the number of simulations and enables obtaining a set of solutions instead of a single one. The dynamic behavior of the gearbox is obtained using the finite element method. The challenge here is to get convergent results with intervals that reflect the efficiency of the applied method. Thus, several mathematical formulations have been tested in static study and evaluated in the case of a truss. Then the interval computation method was used to simulate the behavior of the wind turbine gearbox.

Opis:
The multi-phase permanent-magnet machines with a fractional-slot concentratedwinding (FSCW) are a suitable choice for certain purposes like aircraft, marine, and electric vehicles, because of the fault tolerance and high power density capability. The paper aims to design, optimize and prototype a five-phase fractional-slot concentrated-winding surface-mounted permanent-magnet motor. To optimize the designed multi-phase motor a multi-objective optimization technique based on the genetic algorithm method is applied. The machine design objectives are to maximize torque density of the motor and maximize efficiency then to determine the best choice of the designed machine parameters. Then, the two-dimensional Finite Element Method (2D-FEM) is employed to verify the performance of the optimized machine. Finally, the optimized machine is prototyped. The paper found that the results of the prototyped machine validate the results of theatrical analyses of the machine and accurate consideration of the parameters improved the acting of the machine.

In this paper the analysis of a MEMS vibrating gyroscope model is presented. The FEM analysis of the 3D structure has been performed in COMSOL Multiphysics software. Author took particular attention on mechanical properties particular parts of this device especially combs (used in electrostatical actuators and sensors) in drive and sense directions. For further electrostatic analysis (which is not covered in this article) this analysis has enormous meaning because any deformation of comb structure during operation influences on quality of electrostatic actuating and sensing. In this paper author performed stress results and deformation analysis in sense direction, however similar conclusions one can be drawn for drive direction.

In this paper, a comparative dynamic analysis of the portal cranes of type H and X is described. The difference of the considered cranes arises from the difference of their portals. These two types of portals have the same main geometric measurements. They differ only at the medium level in the horizontal plane. The first type of the portal on the middle level has an H-frame, while the second type has an X-frame. In this paper, dynamic parameters of the two portals have been compared. Estimation has been done to find which of the two types of portals has more favourable dynamic stability for overturn.

Opis:
The article presents main assumptions of the methodology of integrated modeling of hightemperature steel processing in the aspect of supporting the design of new technologies. The developed solution uses a methodological research capability of modern Gleeble thermomechanical simulators to simulate physical processes, and the benefits of numerical modeling. This allows for restricting the number of expensive experimental tests to the minimum, e.g. by selecting a suitable heating schedule to achieve the desired temperature at the sample section, or getting additional information about the process, eg. estimating the zones with diversified grain growth dynamics, information on local cooling rates at any point within the volume of the sample tested. Mathematical models are original solutions of the developed methodology, such as the thermomechanical model of steel deformation in the semi-solid state, and the multi-scale model of resistance heating coupled with grain growth modelling in the micro scale. The work is supplemented with the main assumptions of the developed mathematical models together with examples of their practical use to support physical simulations.

Ground-supported cylindrical tanks are used to store a variety of liquids. This paper provides the theoretical background for numerical simulation by application FEM ALE FSI. Two models were used for calculating response of concrete open top rectangular liquid storage tanks - chipping channel. It was performed by application FEM (Model S) and FEM ALE FSI (Model F). The former uses an alternative approach of numerical FEM simulation where only solid domain of tank was modeled by FEM and the effect of fluid interaction was simulated as the static load acting onto the walls and the bottom of the tank. As an example case we will assume the ground supported rectangular endlessly long concrete shipping channel filled with water, without roof slab structure covering the channel and grounded on hard sub-soil.

The article describes the problem of material fracture in metal forming processes. It describes and compares the values of damage functions obtained in classical tensile and torsion tests of two materials, i.e. CW008A copper and S355 steel under cold forming conditions. The presented research methodology includes experimental tests and numerical simulation carried out using Simufact.Forming v.15 software. The damage values were analysed according to various criteria, including the growth and coalescence of micro cracks (Rice&Tracey, Oyane, Argon), the initiation and development of ductile cracking in forming processes (Freudenthal, Cockroft-Latham, Brozzo, Oh) and using extended phenomenological models based on the history of stress triaxiality (Ayada) or the mean and equivalent stress (Zhan). The conducted tests showed that the values of the damage function depend on: the calibration test, the material grade and the geometry of the specimen.

Results of numerical calculations of reinforced concrete (RC) beams are presented. Based on experimental results on longitudinally reinforced specimens of different sizes and shapes are investigated. Four different continuum constitutive laws with isotropic softening are used: one defined within continuum damage mechanics, an elasto-plastic with the Rankine criterion in tension and the Drucker–Prager criterion in compression, a formulation coupling elasto-plasticity and damage mechanics and the concrete damaged plasticity (CDP) model implemented in Abaqus. In a softening regime, a non-local theory of integral format is applied to the first three constitutive laws. A fracture energy approach is utilised in CDP model. An ability to reproduce different failure mechanisms observed in experiments for each constitutive model is analysed. A comparison of force-displacement curves and crack patterns between numerical and experimental outcomes is performed.

Three different cases of force application reflecting three sport-related situations have been investigated. Time histories of the impact force as well as area of its application have been considered. As a tool to carry out numerical simulation, ANSYS Workbench software platform has been used. The analysis showed that the most dangerous is the force applied to the lower part of orbital margin. In this case, the entire zygomatic bone may be damaged due to strong bending load.

Przedstawiono wyniki symulacji komputerowych procesu nagniatania tocznego osiowego powierzchni wałków ze stali C45. Opracowano model fizyczny, matematyczny, a w efekcie model komputerowy procesu. Przedmiot traktowano jako ciało sprężysto/lepko-plastyczne, zaś narzędzie jako idealnie sztywne. Symulacje wykonano z zastosowaniem Metody Elementu Skończonego. W trakcie symulacji zmieniano głębokość nagniatania 'an'.
In the work, the burnishing rolling process was considered as a geometrically and physically nonlinear edge-to-edge problem, with unknown boundary conditions in the contact area. The results of computer simulation of axial burnishing rolling process of the surface of C45 steel shafts were presented. The physical, geometrical and computer models were developed. The object was treated as an elasto/visco-plastic body, while the tool was rigid. Simulations were made using the Finite Element Method. During the simulation a burnishing depth was changed. The influence of burnishing depth on the state of stress and strains was analyzed. Based on the obtained results, the graph of the dependence of strains from the depth of burnishing was elaborated. The results are presented in the form of figures and graphs.

Opis:
Gas foil bearings belong to the group of slide bearings and are used in devices in which operation at high rotational speeds of the shafts are of key importance, e.g., in gas turbines. The air film developed on the surface of the bearing’s top foil allows this structural component to be separated from the shaft. This ensures a non-contact operation of the bearing. In the case of the mentioned type of bearings, their resultant operational properties are influenced by both thermal and mechanical phenomena. The current work presents a model of a gas foil bearing developed making use of the Finite Element Method. The model takes into account thermomechanical couplings which are necessary for the correct simulation of the operation of physical components of the modeled system. The paper reports the results of numerical analyzes conducted for the elaborated model as well as the relevant conclusions concerning thermomechanical couplings present in gas foil bearings. The method for the experimental identification of the temperature and strain fields in the bearing’s top foil proposed to validate the numerical model is also presented.
