The paper discusses the issue of the complex relationship between political science as a branch of academia and modern trends in feminism, understood as a collection of mutually related ideologies. The author emphasizes that both science and ideology are forms of politi- cal practice exercised in the same social and political reality. However, they are fundamen- tally different with respect to the hierarchy of their functions. The ‘clash’ of these two products of human activity produces political science on women and the politological analysis of feminism (subjected first and foremost to the scientific function) on the one hand, and various proposals of feminist modifications of political science that produce feministically re- formed political science and gynocentric political science (where the scientific function is subjected to social objectives) on the other.

This paper presents the history of German political science and its current status. It outlines the structure of political science studies, the type of courses offered and the literature used during teaching.

The paper presents the thesis that the interdisciplinarity of political science as a science, open to the accomplishments in the field of social sciences and humanities enriches this disci- pline. On the one hand, the enormous expansion of knowledge enforces specialization. On the other hand, there is a constant exchange of thought and methodological experience that takes place for fear of becoming isolated. Globalization – the new quality of international life – forces us to continuously exceed the limits of traditional theoretical orientations. Scientific pluralism raises the question of who and when has the right to decide on the superiority of one scientific model over another. The present state of research into the status of political science allows us to observe that the research instruments of politics, the process of permanently changing the world, must be flexible. The history of the social sciences confirms the continu- ous interdependency of particular disciplines and acknowledges political science as an impor- tant link in the chain of evolution of science.

Artykuł dotyczy wykorzystania źródeł w badaniach politologicznych, oceny ich przydatności, interpretacji m.in. w aspekcie krytyki wewnętrznej i zewnętrznej. Oprócz klasycznych źródeł: dokumentalnych, akt parlamentu, sądowych, administracyjnych, wojskowych, partii politycznych i ruchów społecznych wykorzystuje się inne źródła. Przykładowo źródła narracyjne: dzienniki, kroniki, pamiętniki, wspomnienia, autobiografie oraz źródła epistolarne. Dokumenty te wzajemnie się uzupełniają i należy je badać pod kątem pochodzenia, autentyczności, wiarygodności. Krytyka źródeł ma na celu m.in. wyeliminowanie dokumentów nieprzydatnych o wątpliwej wartości. W XXI w. znaczącą rolę w badaniach odgrywają źródła internetowe: blogi, vlogi, wpisy na Twitterze, Facebooku, dokumenty audiowizualne o różnym poziomie ogólności i uszczegółowienia. Ich wiarygodność i użyteczność uzależniona jest od czynności krytycznych i wykazania przydatności w badaniach.
The article concerns using sources in political science research, assessment of their usefulness and inter alia interpretation in the aspect of internal and external critique. Apart from classic sources: documents, Parliament, court, administrative and military records as well as political parties and social movements, there are other sources that are used. For instance, narrative sources, diaries, journals, memoirs, memories, autobiographies and epistolary sources. These documents complement one another and are supposed to be researched as far as their origin, authenticity and credibility are concerned. Critique of sources aims at, among others, elimination of useless documents or those of questionable value. In the 21st century crucial role play online sources: blogs, vlogs, Twitter or Facebook entries, audiovisual documents of different level of generality or detailing. Their credibility and usefulness depend on critical activities and identifying their helpfulness in the research.

Głównym zagadnieniem artykułu jest przedmiot badań politologicznych w Polsce. Autorzy starają się odtworzyć kształtowanie się owego przedmiotu na przestrzeni ostatnich kilku dekad, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem refleksji polskich teoretyków i teoretyczek polityki. Tekst został podzielony na trzy główne części. Pierwsza dotyczy czynników strukturyzujących przedmiot badań politologicznych (indywidualne zainteresowania badawcze, kształtowanie się poszczególnych paradygmatów i metateorii, moda, polityka organizacji dyscyplinarnej). Druga stanowi syntetyczną rekonstrukcję kształtowania się politologicznego przedmiotu badań. Ostatnia zaś, zawiera przegląd węzłowych problemów badawczych w interesującym autorów zakresie.
The main topic of the paper is the subject of political science research in Poland. The authors try to reconstruct the formation of this subject over the last several decades, with a special focus on the reflections of Polish political theorists and theorists. The text is divided into three main parts. The first deals with the factors structuring the subject of political science research (individual research interests, the formation of particular paradigms and metatheories, fashion, the politics of disciplinary organization). The second is a synthetic reconstruction of the formation of the political science research object. And the last, provides an overview of the knotty research problems in the field of interest to the authors.

Tekst odpowiada na pytanie: jaki jest sens prowadzenia badań politologicznych? Wtedy, gdy ma się odpowiednią motywację i (co równie ważne) wie się, jak to można zrobić. W tym drugim przypadku musi się postępować w odpowiedniej kolejności. Po pierwsze, należy wyznaczyć granice pola badawczego, a po drugie, określić oryginalne, niebanalne problemy i hipotezy badawcze. Po trzecie, konieczny jest odpowiedni dobór i sposób selekcji źródeł pierwotnych i ewentualnie wtórnych. Czwartym etapem jest dobranie adekwatnych metod i technik badawczych, a następnie skonstruowanie narzędzia lub narzędzi badawczych. Po określeniu poziomu prawdziwości i stosowalności zebranych informacji możliwe jest dopiero przystąpienie do weryfikacji hipotez. Im bardziej ten ostatni proces będzie rzetelny, a badacz dociekliwy, tym ciekawsze uzyska się rezultaty badawcze.
The text answers the following question: what is the point of conducting political science research? The research can make a lot of sense when you are strongly motivated and, motivation is just as important as your knowledge how to do it. In the latter case, you must proceed in the correct order. Firstly, the boundaries of the research field should be set, and secondly, original and unconventional research problems and hypotheses should be defined. Thirdly, the proper selection of primary and secondary sources is necessary. Fourthly, you choose appropriate research methods and techniques, and then construct a research tool or tools. After the determining of the level of accuracy and relevance of data collected, it is possible to proceed to the verification of hypotheses. The more thorough the process and the more inquisitive researcher, the more interesting research results are obtained.

The social sciences have experienced an unprecedented interest in the issue of collective memory dating back at least to the 1990s. There has been a veritable avalanche of studies into this topic, editorial series and periodicals have appeared devoted exclusively to it. Simulta- neously, an analysis of the literature on this topic shows that collective memory is not a partic- ularly frequent subject of political science research. It is therefore routine in many works of political scientists to acknowledge the limited number of studies on memory. All that does not mean that the trend has not begun slowly to change. The number of texts on the political as- pects of memory is systematically growing, there are editorial series and monographic issues of scientific periodicals concerning the issue of memory or the political instrumentalization of history. Political scientists are also co-authors of collective works and periodicals of an inter- disciplinary character. The objective of this paper is to analyze a single, but highly influential, issue related to political science research into memory, namely the topic of identity perceived from the perspective of collective memory. The purpose is not so much the exhaustive presen- tation of all the surveys into memory and collective identity in the field of political science but rather establishing the set of main concepts, themes and issues explored by political science literature written in English.

The author begins his analysis with looking at the notion of identity, moving on to that of the identity of an academic discipline. His starting point is to choose a typology of identities of a discipline that distinguishes the identity of the object, its methodological identity, and an identity stemming from the history of development of the discipline. The author primarily focuses on the analysis of the identity of the object, while giving a brief account of the latter two. He concludes by observing that the object of research in the social sciences is to a large extent polymorphic, as evidenced by multidimensional, multifaceted and multilayered analysis. Nevertheless, the author does not give up his further considerations on the object of political science sińce, under the circumstances of the emerging information society, its delimitation is becoming an organizational and educational necessity. He starts the characteristics of studies into the realm of politics by presenting three standpoints, or three assumptions. (1) It is possible to distinguish a homogenous class o f political events and processes. (2) The object o f political science is not a distinguishable ‘entity’. (3) The identity of the object of political science is determined by other factors, such as relations or attributes. Objective difficulties encountered in the process of defining the identity of the object and methodology make the author take the direction of searching for the gist and defmition of ‘politicality ’. The finał part of the paper consists of a brief presentation of the concepts by C. Schmitt, Ch. Mouffe, U. Beck and A. Giddens, and the presentation of the author’s own idea of ‘politicality’.
Autor rozpoczyna analizę od istoty tożsamości po to, aby dojść do kategorii tożsamości dyscypliny naukowej. Punktem wyjściowym jest wybór takiej typologii tożsamości dyscypliny, która wydziela: tożsamość przedmiotową, tożsamość metodologiczną, tożsamość wynikającą z historii rozwoju dyscypliny. Główną uwagę koncentruje autor na analizie tożsamości przedmiotowej, natomiast bardziej skrótowo przedstawia tożsamość metodologiczną i tożsamość wynikającą z historii rozwoju nauki o polityce. W konkluzji autor dochodzi do wniosku, iż przedmiot badań w naukach społecznych ma w dużym stopniu charakter polimorficzny wyrażający się wielowymiarowością, wieloaspektowością i wielopoziomowością analizy. Mimo tego autor nie rezygnuje z dalszych rozważań o przedmiocie nauki o polityce z tego względu, że w warunkach powstającego społeczeństwa informacyjnego pewna jej delimitacja staje się wymogiem organizacyjnym i dydaktycznym. Charakterystykę badań nad polem polityki autor rozpoczyna od przedstawienia trzech stanowisk albo inaczej trzech założeń. A mianowicie, że: istnieje możliwość wyodrębnienia jednorodnej klasy zjawisk i procesów politycznych; przedmiot politologii nie jest „bytem”, który da się wyodrębnić; o tożsamości przedmiotowej politologii decydują inne czynniki, na przykład relacje bądź atrybuty. Obiektywne trudności w zdefiniowaniu tożsamości przedmiotowej i metodologicznej kierują autora na trop poszukiwania istoty i definicji „polityczności”. W części końcowej artykułu autor dokonuje krótkiej prezentacji koncepcji: C. Schmitta, Ch. Mouffe, U. Becka, A. Giddensa, a na koniec przedstawia własną ideę „polityczności”.

The paper presents the evolution of the British model of immigrant integration after World War II. It is a historical and political analysis. The author indicates the key elements of the British approach to decolonisation which were translated into concrete legal acts regulating the lives of the Commonwealth residents and immigrants arriving in the UK. The paper also discusses different dimensions of the integration of immigrants into British society. The analysis indicates that the multicultural model of immigrant integration adopted after World War II has been found to be dysfunctional, as British society has reached a state of super-diversity, becoming a very complex mosaic of races, religions and nationalities.

The main aim of the article is to argue the need for better focus of researchers conducting their research in the field of political science on some digital analytical tools used in social network analyses. Additional objectives are to outline the historical context of SNA’s development in this discipline, as well as to present possible fields of exploration and using of this method, both in basic and in applied research. Particular attention was paid to the potential of SNA in the study of the processes of cabinet coalitions formation, as well as to the important limitations of this method. The article was constructed as a methodological essay. We inevitably accept - because of its focus on network analyses a structural perspective on social reality. We verify the hypothesis that the greatest potential of SNA could be currently to create a visualization of social relations based on large data sets, but at the same time the most important barrier to the development of the method are limitations in the access to these data, which could be used as a basic analytical material for visualization of the network and generalization of the statistical conclusions. Presenting some political science research in Poland and around the world, in which SNA tools are used, we used the historical as well as the case study method.

The language of politics (in its numerous variations and forms) continues to be one of the fundamental objects of political science research. The academic analysis of this object of research, however, continues to generate considerable difficulties for political science as a result of the incompatibility of language studies methodology with the function and tasks of modern political science. Therefore, there emerges a need to develop a method of text analysis for political science that will allow us to use language to discover and present the assumptions that shape the attitudes and ideologies of political entities, or in other words – the content of general political environment. This paper responds to this need by presenting a method that distinguishes three basic levels of analysis: a conventional layer of text, a descriptive one and a presuppositional one. Analyzing the inaugural addresses given by Polish presidents the specificity of their individual dimensions is presented: the situational determinant (level one), the creation of content to boost image (on a descriptive level), and – most importantly to the political scientist – a mechanism revealing the assumptions concealed at the presuppositional level.
Jednym z fundamentalnych przedmiotów badań nauki o polityce pozostaje niezmiennie język polityki (w swoich licznych odmianach i formach). Analiza naukowa tego przedmiotu badań przysparza jednak politologii nadal szereg problemów, wynikających z nieprzystawalności metod językoznawstwa do funkcji i zadań współczesnej nauki o polityce. Pojawia się więc potrzeba wypracowania politologicznej metody analizy tekstu, która to metoda pozwoliłaby – za pomocą języka – odkryć i wyeksponować założenia kształtujące orientacje i postawy podmiotów politycznych, czyli treści tworzące ogólną przestrzeń polityczną. Propozycją odpowiedzi na to zapotrzebowanie jest prezentowana w artykule metoda, wyróżniająca trzy podstawowe poziomy analizy: konwencjonalną warstwę tekstu, opisową oraz presupozycjalną. Na przykładzie analizy inauguracyjnych orędzi polskich prezydentów, ukazano specyfikę poszczególnych wymiarów: determinant sytuacyjny (na pierwszym poziomie), kreację treści korzystnych wizerunkowo (na poziomie deskryptywnym), wreszcie – najistotniejszy dla politologa – mechanizm odkrywania założeń ukrytych na poziomie presupozycjalnym.

The research topic follows, firstly, from the fact that there is a need to examine the scientific schools of the 21st century. Secondly, the general tendency towards the re-ideologization of political science requires a critical interpretation of the state of affairs in the Russian Federation and Ukraine. Thirdly, in Ukraine and in the countries that are its allies, the theoretical analysis of historiography should be particularly helpful in offering a more clear definition of the former and current ideological positions of the aggressor country (the Russian Federation). The article compares the Russian and Ukrainian schools of political science, which have explored the impact on CEE of such actors as the EU, NATO, the USA, and Germany, as well as the economic, political, and ideological components of the systemic transformation.

This article is an introduction to the discussion on the semi-peripheral nature of knowledge production systems, inspired by the publication of Gra Peryferyjna by Tomasz Warczok and Tomasz Zarycki. At the same time, the authors summarize the most important issues raised in the book, that is the relational approach to the study of knowledge and science inspired by Pierre Bourdieu and Immanuel Wallerstein, as well as the dual nature of Polish political science.

Opis:
Wobec złożonych wyzwań, z jakimi musi się obecnie mierzyć polska politologia, zachodzi paląca potrzeba poważnej debaty nad kierunkiem ewolucji politologii w Polsce, zmian na gruncie tej dyscypliny, nad jej przyszłością. Rezultatem tej debaty powinien być program działań, które wzmocnią politologię polską, pozwolą na jej dalszy owocny rozwój, a także spowodują, że rozwiane zostaną wątpliwości odnośnie do naukowego znaczenia i społecznej roli politologii. Wszystko jednak zależy od samych uczonych – od ich zaangażowania, stąd pytanie: „renesans czy rozpad politologii?” pozostaje (niestety) otwartym. Niniejszy artykuł może być postrzegany jako swoista „zachęta” do podjęcia szerszej i systematycznej debaty środowiskowej, rezultatem której mogłyby być zręby nowego politologicznego programu naukowego, który z kolei mógłby zainspirować do nowych rozwiązań organizacyjnych i nowych formuł badawczych oraz stymulowałby procesy integracyjne w obrębie tegoż środowiska. Na potrzeby takiej debaty, w artykule przedstawiono zręby autorskiej koncepcji „IKR”: Integracja – Konsolidacja – Rekonfiguracja tematyczna. Jest to propozycja celująca w naprawę relacji naukowych (zawodowych) w obrębie polskiego środowiska politologicznego i poprawę kondycji naukowej dyscypliny, jak również zawierająca pewne postulaty organizacyjne oraz związane z badaniami i dydaktyką. Na końcu opracowania znalazły się dodatkowo pewne uwagi dotyczące miejsca teorii polityki w owym ewentualnym przyszłym programie rozwoju politologii. Autor broni stanowiska, zgodnie z którym teoria polityki mogłaby pełnić rolę facylitacyjną w procesie rozwoju polskiej politologii.
In the face of complex challenges Polish political science is now struggling with, there is an urgent need for a serious debate on the evolution of political science in Poland, on changes on its ground, and on its future. The outcome of such a debate should be a program of actions, which would strengthen Polish political science, allow for its further fruitful development, as well as will dispel the doubts about scientific meaning and social role of political science. However, everything depends on the scientists themselves – on their commitment; hence the question: “a renaissance or a breakup of political science?” remains (unfortunately) open. The paper may be perceived as an incentive to perform an extensive and systematic debate within political science community, which could be an inspiration for new organizational solutions and new research formulas, as well as would stimulate integrational processes within the community of political scientists. For the purpose of such a debate, the article presents the author’s concept of “ICTR”: Integration – Consolidation – Thematic Reconfiguration. It is a proposition aiming at repairing scientific (professional) relations within Polish political science community and improving the condition of the discipline, and it includes some organizational postulates and postulates referring to research and didactics. At the end of the paper some additional comments were made concerning the role of political theory in the future program of development of political science. The author defend the thesis that political theory could serve facilitation role in the process of development of Polish political science.
