Opis:
Rich geometric models of the environment are needed for robots to carry out their missions. However a robot operating in a large environment would require a compact representation. In this article, we present a method that relies on the idea that a plane appears as a line segment in a 2D scan, and that by tracking those lines frame after frame, it is possible to estimate the parameters of that plane. The method is divided in three steps: fitting line segments on the points of the 2D scan, tracking those line segments in consecutive scan and estimating the parameters with a graph based SLAM (Simultaneous Localisation And Mapping) algorithm.

Opis:
In this paper, a method for calibrating the sensory system of a walking robot is proposed. The robot is equipped with two exteroceptive sensors: a 2D laser scanner and a stereo camera. When using the CAD model of the robot, the positions of both sensors defined in the robot's body reference frame can only be determined with limited precision. Our goal is to create a method which allows the robot to find the position of the mounted sensors without the need for human input. The presented results show that the method is not only fast but also more precise than calibration using the CAD model.

Opis:
This paper deals with problems of rough terrain perception and mapping for walking robots equipped with inexpensive optical range sensors providing 2D data only. Two different sensing modalities are considered: the structured light sensor, and the Hokuyo URG-04LX laser scanner. Measurement uncertainty in both sensors is taken into account, and different geometric configurations of these sensors on the walking robot are analysed, yielding the configurations that are best for the task of terrain perception. Then, application of the acquired range data in local terrain mapping is presented. The mapping algorithm as well as novel methods for removing map artifacts that result from qualitative errors in range measurements are detailed. Experimental results are provided.

Monte Carlo localization method
Opis:
The paper presents a method of localization of a mobile robot which relies on aggregation of data from several sensors. A review of the state of the art regarding methods of localization of ground mobile robots is presented. An overview of design of the four-wheeled mobile robot used for the research is given. The way of representation of robot environment in the form of maps is described. The localization algorithm which uses the Monte Carlo localization method is described. The simulation environment and results of simulation investigations are discussed. The measurement and control equipment of the robot is described and the obtained results of experimental investigations are presented. The obtained results of simulation and experimental investigations confirm the validity of the developed robot localization method. They are the foundation of further research, where additional sensors supporting the localization process could be used.
