Opis:
This paper presents results of tests performed on magnetostrictive delay line concerning its change in properties during temperature changes. Results indicate that an increase in temperature causes a decrease in wave amplitude and increase in the speed of propagation. The material used for the magnetostrictive delay line was an amorphous steel alloy of Fe-Si-B in tape form.

In this paper we present experimental results on influence of Al content on the structure and saturation magnetostriction of Fe-Al-Cu-Nb-Si-B alloys after heat treatment. Transmission electron microscopy observations confirmed the existence of nanocrystalline structure after annealing at 490°C and 550°C for all samples. The crystallization temperature of FeSi phase and the temperature at which the polycrystalline transformation starts were determined from temperature dependence of electrical resistivity. Aluminium slightly decreases the first crystallization temperature and considerably decreases the saturation magnetostriction in as-quenched state.

Due to their sensitivity, robustness and the flat shape, the magnetoelastic sensors create new possibilities of industrial applications. This paper presents the results of the field tests of using the magnetoelastic sensors with amorphous alloy ring-shaped cores for ignition detection in locomotive's diesel engines as well as measurements of the torque during the operation of ball valves. Presented results confirm usability of amorphous alloy based, magnetoelastic sensors for specific industrial applications.

A response of an inhomogeneous magnetoelastic medium with the zero-mean magnetostriction to high-frequency elastic and electromagnetic fields is studied. It is shown that diagonal susceptibilities have the resonance anomalies in the vicinity of the frequency of the magnetoelastic resonance, while the coefficients of crossing excitations are equal to zero.

Opis:
Magnetostriction of a large slab of conventional NbTi superconductor, with a diameter of about 6 mm, was investigated by the strain gauge technique. At the temperature of 4.2 K and in the external magnetic field of several T we found irreversible magnetostriction of an order of 10$\text{}^{-5}$, where the number means the relative changes of the slab diameter. This large magnetostriction is accompanied by giant magnetostriction jumps, caused by thermomagnetic avalanches. These thermomagnetic avalanches also cause giant jumps of the surface magnetization, which can be observed by using the Hall probes. The results were analyzed in the framework of the pinning induced magnetostriction model.

Ferromagnetic resonance spectra of the La$\text{}_{0.67}$Ca$\text{}_{0.33}$MnO$\text{}_{3}$ ferromagnetic film deposited onto the x-cut LiNbO$\text{}_{3}$ substrate were investigated in a wide temperature range. The strain was mechanically introduced into the film using a special holder configuration. This leads to a shift of resonance field with respect to that of the as-grown sample. Analysis of the magnetic resonance shift, induced by a mechanical stress, allowed us to determine the magnetostriction constant λ$\text{}_{100}$. The magnetostriction determined in this way versus saturation magnetization could be well described by the Callen and Callen theory suggesting the domination of the single ion crystal field interaction in the sample being in the ferromagnetic state.

Excitation of bulk spin waves by acoustic wave localized on the elastic planar defect in the bulk ferromagnet was analytically and numerically investigated. We showed that besides magnetic oscillations forced by acoustic wave strain the resonance between Kosevich wave and bulk spin wave can occurs. For the frequency of the Kosevich wave far below the resonance frequency the amplitude of dynamic magnetization is negligible. For the frequency above the resonance the acoustic wave excites bulk spin wave of the same frequency but different absolute value of the wave vector.

Opis:
We investigate volume and shape magnetoelastic strains of a 2D anisotropic Ising alloy with partial atomic order. Three possible origins of shape strain are distinguished: (i) anisotropy of elastic constants, (ii) anisotropy of magnetic bonds and (iii) anisotropy of the spatial derivatives of magnetic bonds. None of these mechanisms vanishes above the Curie temperature. Equilibrium strains are expressed in terms of anisotropic spin-spin nearest-neighbours correlation functions. These functions are calculated against temperature, both in ferromagnetic and paramagnetic phase. Shape strain decreases monotonously with temperature for the mechanisms (i) and (iii), and has a maximum near the Curie temperature for the case (ii). The results may be relevant for multilayer magnetic systems.

Amorphous bilayers consisting of Fe-Si-B and Co-Si-B layers have been prepared by planar flow casting from a single crucible using a double-nozzle technique. Temperature dependencies of magnetization and hysteresis loops have been investigated in a wide temperature range. At room temperature, the effects of interlayer stresses, induced in material due to different thermal expansion coefficients of two mechanically interconnected soft magnetic layers, resulted in rounded hysteresis loops with flattened central part, indicating a dominant role of magnetization rotational processes. With an increase of measurement temperature, the interlayer stresses are relieved and the hysteresis loops became more squared.

We investigated the effect of large compressive stress on magnetic shape memory effect in modulated 10M martensite of Ni-Mn-Ga Heusler alloy. The single crystalline sample deformed approximately elastically up to highest load 540 MPa. Structural and microstructural changes of a single crystal were analysed by X-ray diffraction 2D scan mapping in 2θ and ω. Although the crystal structure, lattice cell parameters, and twinned microstructure (a/b and modulation twinning) exhibited only small changes after the loading, the volume of the sample undergoing the magnetically induced reorientation decreased sharply while magnetic field necessary for the reorientation gradually increased. The extrapolation suggested that no magnetically induced reorientation might occur after compression of about 1 GPa.

This work was aimed at investigating the FeNbCuSiB and FeNiMoB type alloys exhibiting relatively high saturation magnetostriction after suitable heat treatment, which makes them suitable for application in force sensors. Samples of both alloys were prepared in a form of toroidal cores wound from amorphous ribbons obtained by melt-spinning, and then the cores were annealed under longitudinal and transverse magnetic field. An effect of the induced magnetic anisotropy and of the applied compressive stresses on the dynamic magnetic properties of both alloys within a frequency range from 50 Hz to 50 kHz was studied.

The magnetic anisotropy and magnetostriction in nanocrystalline grains in non-magnetic or magnetic matrix (nanoparticles or nanocrystalline materials) differ from their bulk properties. The interactions between atoms at the interface play the important role in these magnetic properties. In this paper the magnetic dipolar contribution to magnetostriction energy has been calculated for spherical crystal grains (of bcc and fcc symmetry) with interface layer of atoms possessing different magnetic moment. Total magnetoelastic energy of the sphere-interface system is a sum of magnetoelastic energy of the sphere, energy of the interactions between the sphere and the interface and also the energy of the interface. It was shown that magnetoelastic energy depends on the sphere size and interface thickness.

The ferromagnetic lanthanum manganites show a negative entropy change peakΔ S under the application of a magnetic field at the Curie temperature. However, the magnetoelastic coupling effects lead to a first-order paramagnetic-ferromagn etic transition and an increasedΔ S compared to simple ferromagnets. This effect is analyzed in the framework of the Landau theory of phase transitions which shows a comparable influence of the magnetoelastic couplings and the ordinary magnetic ordering effect. The Pr$\text{}_{1-x}$Ca$\text{}_{x}$MnO $\text{}_{3}$ system shows a rich electric and magnetic phase diagram, with a ferromagnetic insulator phase for 0.15

Acoustic phonons analysis shows that the elastic constants are decreased with increasing cobalt layer thicknesses.
