Nowadays, business environment is faster than ever in the field of new technologies. The firms are forced to find new ways to compete and survive through innovations. To meet these demands, different tools and techniques are used in order to measure capability of firms to innovate. One of them is the Value Innovation Potential Assessment Tool, which helps to identify appropriate opportunities for firms to use it to assess their effectiveness of innovation work. The main goal of this paper was to investigate the Value Innovation Potential under transitional conditions in some firms in South-Eastern Serbia. The research was done using a questionnaire taken from literature, which was applied to one hundred employees in mentioned Serbian firms. The data were statistically analysed, explained and main conclusions were obtained. Proposed factor model of Value Innovation Potential was tested using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) on investigated population.

The aim of this paper is to contribute to the academic discussion on the proper understanding of the notions of responsibility and innovation. In recent years, the field of Responsible Research and Innovation has grown rapidly among academia and received considerable attention. One area of focus concerns the proper understanding of the notion of the terms themselves. They are especially problematic in light of the critique that the subject has already received (cf. Blok, Lemmens 2015). This article provides an answer to that critique and proposes an alternative approach to the notions discussed. On the one hand, it outlines the so called ambivalued notion of innovation (cf. Kawalec 2015) and on the other, it presents a four-point characteristic of responsibility relevant to the field of research and innovation. In the text, the term responsibility should be understood as collective, future-oriented, socio-political, and values-oriented.

Przedmiotem analizy są stosowane obecnie w Polsce instrumenty wsparcia innowacyjności. Celem artykułu jest próba odpowiedzi na pytanie: Czy i w jakim stopniu poszczególne instrumenty ułatwiają przedsiębiorstwom /przedsiębiorcom podejmowanie i prowadzenie działalności innowacyjnej? Przeanalizowane są kolejno narzędzia adresowane do firm bezpośrednio i pośrednio. Wyniki analizy nie pozwalają, niestety, na udzielenie pozytywnej odpowiedzi na tytułowe pytanie. Na zakończenie podjęta jest próba ustalenia przyczyn takiego stanu rzeczy.
The main aim of this paper is an attempt to answer the question whether the existing public policy instruments in Poland are useful (helpful) for enterprises/entrepreneurs who intend to start or develop their innovation activities. The tools addressed directly and indirectly to firms are here deeply analyzed. Unfortunately, the results of this analysis do not allow us to give a positive answer to this question.

Adopting and developing a knowledge-based economy as the current stage of global economic development is an important stimulus to successful innovation. The transition to a knowledge-based economy and achieving economic convergence, especially in the case of emerging economies, requires the appreciation of science and technology coexistence on the one hand, and the development of innovation on the other, as well as the raising of human resource competences and skills for further development. Latin American countries, in search of an effective development strategy after moving away from the Washington Consensus, which set economic priorities through the last decade of the twentieth century, become increasingly aware of the importance of the development of STI policies. They try to identify the most important institutions and the capacities and resources needed to support economic development. Such policy generally includes at least three objectives: to create research and development opportunities in public research institutes and universities; to stimulate the demand of companies for scientific and technological knowledge by establishing close relationships between universities, business and government, and supporting and developing national innovation systems in each country. In this article the author analyzes the policies introduced and attempts to assess their effectiveness.

This paper examines the application of life cycle assessment (LCA) as an approach to foster the product and process oriented eco- innovation of enterprises, using the fruit and vegetable processing plant as an example. LCA, which is traditionally used to assess the impacts of a single product system on the environment, was applied in the enterprise context. This was made possible by forming an indicator describing the environmental profile of an enterprise, which is calculated by the sum of the multiplication of the environmental impact assessment (LCIA) results for individual unit processes within a particular impact category and their weights reflecting the structure of production in an enterprise. In order to distinguish and indicate the direction in which an enterprise should undertake its eco-innovative actions (implementing eco-innovations within the product or production process) the LCIA results are presented individually for products and production processes. The research was conducted in full compliance with the LCA methodology. LCA proved that the analysed enterprise has the largest negative impacts on the environment in the following impact categories: marine eco-toxicity, freshwater eco-toxicity, freshwater eutrophication, human toxicity and natural land transformation. They result primarily from the consumption of thermal and electric energy in the production processes. Therefore, to improve energy efficiency, the enterprise should take eco-innovative actions in the processes applied.

The furniture industry in Poland is a rapidly growing area of the economy. The level of innovation strongly influences furniture enterprises competitive position on the market. To support innovation, small and medium furniture industry businesses are affiliate in cluster initiatives. It supports the area of R&D, joint promotional campaigns and financing of new ventures. The paper presents selected furniture industry cluster initiatives that implement policies to support innovation activities of enterprises affiliated to them. In Poland, more and more furniture industry businesses brings together in cluster initiatives that aim to improve their market competitiveness and increase the level of innovation. Taken studies allow to analyse the direction of innovative activities undertaken by companies of the furniture industry with particular emphasis on the ones associated in clusters. Thus the aim of the article is to investigate the interest of Polish furniture enterprises (especially SMEs), in participation in clusters. Moreover the benefits of that choice and its impact on Polish furniture manufacturers innovativeness are evaluated.

The article presents the issue of risk assessment of innovations. Specificity of technological innovation realized in manufacturing companies has been particularly well described here. An original method of assessing the innovative projects risk has been presented. The elaborated method has been implemented in three enterprises, the business activity of which is not typical for electrical engineering, metal and mechanical engineering and companies which are going to carry out the innovative project simultaneously with already started innovative projects. Moreover, an example of the risk assessment of a chosen technological innovation has been presented.

The basic idea of the paper is to apply a multi-attribute notion of diversity proposed by Nehring and Puppe to technological changes appearing as a consequence of innovations in Schumpeter’s sense of the term in the production sphere of the economy modelled by the use of the Arrow and Debreu topological apparatus. The paper is inspired by the work of Malawski and Woerter who used Stirling diversity concept to prove that innovative processes are the source of growing diversity in the Schumpeterian vision of economic development. We show that, under certain conditions, nondecreasing multi-attribute diversity in the production sphere of the private ownership economy is a necessary and sufficient condition for the occurrence of innovation in the economy under study

Wood industry enterprises are an important branch of the Polish economy. More and more companies in this sector starts to work on the basis of new technologies, standards and policies, such as the idea of sustainable development. An important factor that may accelerate the implementation of innovative solutions or their employees are slowing. Their commitment and belief in the validity of the changes will depend on whether the innovation desired effect. In me remarks I make an attempt to point out such conditions of innovation in science as: philosophical traditions, as well institutional relations and personalities of researchers themselves. The analyses made in them are making the basis for formulating a general thesis stating that innovation in every case has a relative character, i.e. it is dependent not just from time and place of the research made, but also from such conditions that make what could be and often was perceived as scientific innovation under one set of circumstances cannot be perceived as such on other. The diverse character of these conditions sets a fact that it is hard to design innovation in science and to assess their scale.

Prezentowane opracowanie ma za zadanie odpowiedzieć na pytanie: jakiego rodzaju trudności mogą występować w próbach terytorializacji poli- tyki rozwoju innowacji prowadzonej przez urzędy marszałkowskie? Praca bazuje na krytycznym przeglądzie literatury oraz licznych wywiadach pogłę- bionych realizowanych zarówno w regionach słabiej rozwiniętych (wojewódz- twa podlaskie i warmińsko-mazurskie), jak i tych, które są kluczowe w Polsce (dolnośląskie, łódzkie).
The article addresses the issue of the territorial dimension of innovation both from the point of view of the analytical issues as well as the problems facing the authorities of Polish voivodeships. Although the concepts of spatial conditions for conducting innovative activities such as „innovation environment“, „regional innovation systems“ have been known for many years, relatively recent „territorialisation of development policies“ has significantly strengthened the interest in the territory and its features also in the policies of the regional authorities. The intra-regional perceptions of differentiation in terms of the development of innovation should lead intra-regional development policies towards local innovation systems.
