Opis:: The paper presents results of measurements of the reverse recovery current and dynamic forward voltage of the silicon carbide (SiC) Schottky diodes operating at a 500 A/ěs current slope. These data were compared with the corresponding parameters determined for ultrafast silicon (Si) diodes. Results of power losses measurement in SiC Schottky diodes operating at switching frequency range of (10–200) kHz are presented and compared with corresponding data of ultrafast Si diodes. Also, results of power losses measurements in transistors of dc voltage switch are shown. Investigations were conducted with a SiC and the ultrafast Si freewheeling diode at the transistor switching frequency of 100 kHz. The results of measuring power losses dissipated in the dc converter with a SiC Schottky diode and the ultrafast silicon diode are also presented.

Opis:: The article concerns social aspects of gathering and processing data recorded on line. Changes in the forms of control enabled by the development of microelectronics and information and telecommunication technologies are the context of the analysis. The specific issues of the social space of the Internet include: possibilities to gather and process data regarding user's behaviour, processes of matching content with individual's profile, threats of spyware, and emergence of the political movement of privacy protection. Additionally, there is a brief review of hitherto empirical research on privacy and digital surveillance.
Artykuł poświęcony jest społecznym aspektom gromadzenia i przetwarzania danych w Internecie, w tym danych osobowych. Analiza tego zjawiska poprzedzona jest omówieniem szerszego kontekstu, jakim są przemiany form kontroli umożliwione przez rozwój mikroelektroniki i technologii teleinformacyjnych. Przedstawiona jest specyfika techniczno-społecznej przestrzeni internetowej i jej charakterystyczne cechy: łatwość gromadzenia i przetwarzania danych o poczynaniach internautów, możliwość dostosowania zawartości do profilu użytkownika, funkcjonowanie oprogramowania szpiegującego [spyware] oraz pojawienie się politycznego ruchu na rzecz obrony prywatności. Praca zawiera także krótki przegląd dotychczasowych badań empirycznych, zarówno zagranicznych, jak i polskich.

Opis:: Simulation software dedicated for design of casting processes is usually tested and calibrated by comparisons of shrinkage defects distribution predicted by the modelling with that observed in real castings produced in a given foundry. However, a large amount of expertise obtained from different foundries, including especially made experiments, is available from literature, in the form of recommendations for design of the rigging systems. This kind of information can be also used for assessment of the simulation predictions. In the present work two parameters used in the design of feeding systems are considered: feeding ranges in horizontal and vertical plates as well as efficiency (yield) of feeders of various shapes. The simulation tests were conducted using especially designed steel and aluminium castings with risers and a commercial FDM based software. It was found that the simulations cannot predict appearance of shrinkage porosity in horizontal and vertical plates of even cross-sections which would mean, that the feeding ranges are practically unlimited. The yield of all types of feeders obtained from the simulations appeared to be much higher than that reported in the literature. It can be concluded that the feeding flow modelling included in the tested software does not reflect phenomena responsible for the feeding processes in real castings properly. Further tests, with different types of software and more fundamental studies on the feeding process modelling would be desirable.

Opis:: This paper presents investigation of methods for reducing light pulsation and plasma temperature inside a high intensity discharge (HID) lamp arc tube. Differences found in light emission of an arc tube plasma channel under different power supply methods are presented and discussed in this work. The novelty of the paper lies in systematical investigation of different power converter supply methods and demonstrating that it has a significant influence on plasma temperature in an arc tube. The tested lamp was powered by electronic ballasts controlled by different algorithms, which forced their current waveform. To compare the results, the authors performed measurements on a discharge lamp powered by a standard electromagnetic ballast. The investigation of plasma parameters is based on the optical spectroscopy method. It was shown that by using the appropriate current shape of a high switching frequency supply converter, the plasma temperature of an HID lamp can be reduced almost by half.
