Opis:
Purpose: The purpose of this paper was to present the activities undertaken in the area of waste management by Polish enterprises participating in the EMAS system, operating in the water supply, sewage and waste management and remediation branches. Design/methodology/approach: The grounds for the assumed research method was the analysis of secondary sources in form of environmental statements. The selection of sample was targeted, the research was complete and included 19 companies participating in EMAS, dealing with water supply, sewage and waste management and remediation. Based on the analysis, groups of most frequent activities in the area of waste management have been determined and specific solutions implemented in each group have been presented. Findings: Polish enterprises mostly performed activities relating to: public educational campaigns, use of a system of measurable indicators, waste treatment or disposal and modification of waste treatment installations. It has been found, despite the fact that research has been made among organisations whose activity mainly involves positive environmental impact, that presented solutions could be implemented or inspire not only businesses with a similar profile, but also those whose operations entail producing and introducing waste to the environment. Research limitations/implications: A certain limitation of the research is the fact that information in environmental reports is not uniform, which makes it difficult to analyse. Not every organisation includes data on specific implemented activities in their environmental reports. The areas of further research may include analysis of solutions implemented by Polish manufacturing companies participating in EMAS, relating to waste or energy efficiency. Practical implications: The key input of the described research includes examples of specific actions that could be implemented by organisations dealing with various types of activity in order to prevent production of waste or reduce the volume of waste. Social implications: This paper describes exemplary solutions that could help organisations in improving their environmental performance relating to waste. Originality/value: The results of conducted research may supplement the previous research concerning the EMAS system. This paper contains guidelines and examples of specific activities that organisations could implement in the field of waste management.

Opis:
Purpose: to show differences between public and business organisations within the scope of individualist and collectivist behaviour. Design/Methodology/Approach: the study was carried out among employees of public and business organisations performing various organisational roles. 497 persons participated in the study. It comprised two stages. Stage I was carried out with the use of a structured interview, while in stage II, questionnaire surveys were used. To put the content in order, the semantic field analysis was used, which allowed for separating the main research categories. Individualist and collectivist behaviour is one of many identified organisational types of behaviour. Findings: differences exist between members of public and business organisations as far as behaviour is concerned. In business, individualist behaviour is predominant, while in public organisations – collectivist behaviour. The structure of collectivism is complex and comprises of different types of behavior, i.e.: concordance, conformism and cooperation. In public organisations, concordance is predominant, while in business it is on a lower level. In both types of organisations, cooperation-type behaviour is at a low level. Research Limitations/Implications: inability to fully objectify the research results obtained. Practical Implications: knowledge about the behaviour manifested by the majority of the participants and about the marginalised behaviour allows for a better understanding of the phenomena that take place and in effect conscious management and support for the development of those that an organisation cares about. The structure of behaviour is a carrier of information about motifs guiding the actions of individuals. Separating behaviour that is dominant provides information about the motifs of such behaviour and what affects the behaviour of people – whether it is legitimisation of the value of the organisation and the established standards, or the power of the group. Accurate identification of orientation offers possibilities for predicting behaviour and for more efficient designing and carrying out organisational changes. The third issue is the possibility of using such knowledge during coordination. An organization may influence the behaviour and the engagement of the individual, along with the course and 2 effort put in the performance of processes related to the management of human resources in the 3 organisation. 4 Keywords: individualism, collectivism, public organisation, business organisation where collectivist behaviour is dominant requires different tools for coordination than an organisation where individualist behaviour is dominant. Originality/Value: to supplement theoretical constructs with examples of organisational behaviour manifested in Polish organisations and to show collectivism as a complex dimension as part of which various activities may be performed. Dominance of a specific behaviour shapes the quality of functioning of an individual in an organisation. Whether an individual consciously adopts and accepts organisational norms or acts in line with them under the impact of a group may influence the behaviour and the engagement of the individual, along with the course and effort put in the performance of processes related to the management of human resources in the organisation.

Purpose: The aim of this elaboration has been to get to know the opinions of students on benchmarking, its practical application and a possibility of improving the classes. Design/methodology/approach: With the applicable literature and own experience supported with the results of a preliminary (pilot) survey questionnaire performed among students, a need to facilitate public higher education provider’s classes was justified. Findings: The results of the study justify the use of benchmarking in the process of education in management, management and production engineering as well as finance and accounting programmes. Research limitations/implications: The considerations covered in this elaboration determine further directions of theoretical and practical studies. Interesting research problems are e.g. the benefits of using benchmarking, management system improvement, the role of the measurement system and reporting of accomplishments in benchmarking. Originality/value: Benchmarking, as a research tool, is an important source of information indispensable for an adequate operation and development of the organisation. The multi-dimensionality of the tool allows its application both to evaluate the entire organisation for respective results accomplished, and the processes, procedures, standards, etc.

Purpose: The main research problem, which is also the subject of the study, was to recognise a relation between creative life orientations and their impact on the potential development of a creative organisation. Methodology: The article reviews research on the impact of cognitive, theoretical, methodological and empirical issues using Cudowska's questionnaire (2004). To analyse the data Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used and then parametric tests were applied: Student's t-test, ANOVA and Tukey's post hoc test. Findings: The discussion and final conclusions focus on the impact of the above relationships on the creative development of these organisations. The results of the study showed that the development of the analysed creative organisations is not strongly contingent on the creative life orientations of their employees. Undoubtedly, the development of creative organisations depends on them, yet other factors, equally important in Polish conditions, should be sought. Research limitations/implications: The obtained research results are treated as pilot ones. The complete achievement of the research goal requires continuation of the research on a larger respondents. Practical implications: The results of the research can be used to improve the policy of development creative in organisations. Social implications: Modern entities need professionals with the ability to act independently, efficiently and effectively, but also creatively. This professionalism in the context of an organisation requires not only perfection in the execution of activities, but also the reduction of barriers that inhibit the creative development of an organisation. Hence, the issue of understanding the importance of creative development for organisational performance has been in recent years and continues to be addressed by researchers around the world. To a certain extent, this article responds to this demand in terms of the topics covered. Originality/value: This is the first study of this type conducted on the choosen population in Poland.

Opis:
The evolution of the approach to the public sector has been changing the expectations towards the sector’s organisations in a substantial manner. A particular challenge was the departure from the classic Weber management model, postulated in the new public management (NPM), towards market mechanisms, precedence of performance criteria, public sector functioning based on principles similar to the ones applicable to the private sector. The direction of these changes resulted in the permeation of the concepts used in the private sector to the public sector. One of these includes the dynamic capabilities concept. Dynamic capabilities can constitute an organisation’s potential for systemic problem solving, resulting from the mindfulness of the signals deriving from an organisation’s environment to ensure the correct direction of functioning and development of a public sector organisation. The paper includes an attempt to answer the question whether the concept of dynamic capabilities can constitute an answer to the changing expectations towards public sector organisations? The research method used in the paper is the literature study.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to identify the importance of project knowledge management in local government organisations in Poland. Design/methodology/approach: The analysis carried out for this paper included a literature analysis, survey research and analysis of the research results. The hypotheses set for the research were verified using statistical methods on the basis of the collected data from a questionnaire survey addressed to randomly selected district offices and town halls in Poland. Findings: Based on the literature review, the paper confirms the relevance of knowledge management and project knowledge management in the activities and development of organisations. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that local government organisations in Poland manage project knowledge because they are aware of its importance in effective project management. Originality/value: Project knowledge management is not only important in companies, but also in local government organisations for effective project management. Collecting and documenting project knowledge and experiences from projects helps to reduce errors during subsequent projects.

Purpose: The article discusses the basic differences and common features of foundations and registered associations of the NGO sector. The article analyses 8 categories concerning the characteristics of projects in foundations and registered associations in order to detect whether they differ significantly. Design/methodology/approach: A target group was surveyed. Findings: Based on the research, a description was compiled on the common features that were detected and differences between projects implemented in foundations and registered associations in NGO sector. Research limitations/implications: In the article, the author collates the results of her own research on the development of projects in the NGO sector of foundations and registered associations, having full awareness that research carried out on a targeted sample does not allow generalizing conclusions for entire populations, although it allows identifying regularities present in a given community in order to outline further research directions. The research was conducted as part of the pilot project of NGOs’ project management issues and is the starting point for conducting in-depth research in this area. Practical implications: In NGOs, authorities and managers should increase their competences in project management in NGOs and promote good practices and professionalization of project management in third-sector organizations. Social implications: The implementation of projects in foundations and registered associations is the basis of their functioning. Widespread research in this field allows increasing project awareness among NGO members. Originality/value: A comparative project analysis was carried out for two types of NGOs: foundations and registered associations. The article is addressed to people involved in NGO project management research and to third-sector entities.

Opis:
There is no set of constructs or measurement tools in the subject literature that would be widely accepted. In this paper three dimensions of the organisation’s environment namely dynamism, hostility, and complexity, were reviewed. These dimensions are common to most environment research but, especially on the native background, only a few researchers have attempted to synthesize these dimensions in the one research approach. The aim of the paper is synthesis of three dimensions of the organisation’s environment and an empirical verification of whether the existing business practice dimensions of the organisation’s environment correspond to the dimensions laid down and proposed on the theoretical level. In the paper, three dimensions of the organisation’s environment - dynamism, hostility, and complexity were characterised, a research tool developed for measuring them was presented. The approach uses data from a sample of fifty-three new technology-based firms in Poland. Factor analysis was used to explore the viability of these environmental dimensions. The results of the conducted research indicate that the organisation’s environment is a multidimensional construct and could be described by dynamism, hostility and complexity.

At present, companies face numerous challenges which they need to meet to achieve a market success. In the turbulent, highly competitive environment, they need to maintain high flexibility and develop a mechanism of rapid response to changes. The aim of this article is to demonstrate how important marketing is in the context of the organisation's strategy and how important decisions made within the framework of the strategic marketing are. Considering proposals for customer-oriented strategies, the need to consider such approaches as relationship marketing, service dominant logic and the concept of value co-creation with the customer have been demonstrated.

Opis:
Introduction/background: Non-profit organisations are geared towards achieving public goals. They are very capable of formulating missions, the formal manifestation of which is a mission statement. A mission statement can be viewed as an element of the expression of organizational identity. An analysis of mission statements can be one way to determine a non-profit organization’s raison d'être, priorities, course of action, etc. Their axiological system may also be described on this basis. Aim of the paper: The aim of the article was to answer the following research questions: What activities do non-profit organisations expose in their mission statements? What beneficiaries do non-profit organisations indicate in their mission statements? What values do non-profit organisations profess in their mission statements, and what values are declared by their leaders? What are the motives for non-profit organisations to formulate mission statements? Materials and methods: In the study, the mission statements of 320 Polish non-profit organisations were examined. A certain limitation of the research was the purposeful selection of the sample, resulting from the fact that a significant part of Polish NPOs have no formulated missions. The text content of these mission statements was analysed using IRAMUTEQ software. To obtain additional data, as well as to enable its triangulation, supplementary questionnaire surveys were sent out to the leaders of these 320 non-profit entities. Results and conclusions: The studies allowed the authors to fill in the research gap concerning the mission statements of Polish NPOs, the goals of their formulation, as well as the values they contain. It was found that the formulation of mission statements served non-profit organisations mainly to communicate with the society. In fewer cases, it was part of the strategic management process. In the disclosed mission statements, non-profit organisations communicated their goals, forms of activity, clients and core values. Research also showed that analyses of the content of mission statements can be an important source of knowledge about non-profit organisations, including their axiological system. Literature emphasises that these organisations are value-driven, but examples of the values and their prevalence are rarely explored. To identify values professed by non-profit entities, Whitman’s (2009) catalogue was used, supplemented – as a result of the conducted research – with additional social values. The presence of economic values in mission statements and leaders' declarations was also tested, having been analysed in the context of economisation and professionalisation in the third sector. It was demonstrated that economic values are important for non-profit organisations, although they are not as strongly prioritised as social values.

Opis:
One of the most important factors taken into account in resource management and local development is the developing social entrepreneurship. It can be understood as the social and economic activity of the so-called third sector. These organisations are seen as an important issue affecting the competitiveness of a region. However, analysing the achievements of social economics entities and appreciating their contribution to stimulating the development of local communities, it seems that their role is often overestimated, as the scale of activity conducted by these organisations is rather limited. The aim of the research was to identify the impact of social economy entities on improving a region's competitiveness. As indicated by the results of research conducted in 2019, in the Warmia-Masuria voivodeship, the activity of social enterprises enables meeting the needs mainly on a local scale, in a manner that is not guaranteed by enterprises operating on the open market. However, the atmosphere of financial entitledness is created around social enterprises based mainly on the conviction of the members of these entities of the unique nature of their actions.

The article is an attempt to answer the question of how to measure the success of public organizations. The literature indicates that the use of a single measure is inadequate because it gives a simplified picture of the situation in a short time usually does not reflect the prospects for the future. The considerations presented in this article are the result of the research project „Key success factors for public sector organizations on the example of social services organisations“ funded by the National Science Centre (contract number 2013/09/N/HS4/03861).

This article aims to develop a model assumptions based on cellular automata. This model is designed to study the leadership processes in organizations in terms of complex adaptive systems (CAS). The task of computer model is to explain the behavior of the system which is the organization through a dynamic analysis of the behavior of local, i.e. the interaction between the elementary components of the system. Accordingly, the computer program should allow the flexibility to define and simulate the processes of leadership by specifying local rules to determine key parameters of the model and the analysis of emergent phenomena that appear at the macro-level.
