Opis:
Purpose: The article presents the results of qualitative research related to answering the question: “How can reporting be supported when there is no access to professional BI tools?”. Design/methodology/approach: The answer to this question was set in the context of the BI layers proposed by Todd (todd 2017). This approach allowed one to determine, in each layer, operations performed on data that support reporting. The main research method was the participation observation made in the author’s involvement in the project management team. Findings: Supporting reporting in project management when there is no access to professional BI tools needs strong technical competences and great creativity by the project management team in using applications such as spreadsheets or database tools. The most helpful functionalities provided by spreadsheets are text and search functions and the data conversion wizard. The most useful functionality provided by database tools was intelligent calculations made by queries and automatic report design provided by MS Access. Originality/value: The paper presents an examination of the set of operations and IT tools needed in a business analysis made in project management in a situation where there is no access to professional BI tools.

Opis:
Purpose: The aim of this article is to describe employees’ expectations and managers’ practices in the implementation and use of tools supporting remote work. Design/methodology/approach: To this end, employee opinion surveys were conducted using the Computer-Assisted Web Interview (CAWI) method (n = 500) and structured interviews were performed with managers (n = 14). Cross tabulation was employed to quantitatively verify statistically significant relationships and coding of the interview contents was applied in the qualitative analysis. Findings: Based on the results, the impact of personal skills, IT support and tool selection on the use of remote work tools (and employee satisfaction) are assessed. Research limitations/implications: In view of the newly emerging employee challenges it seems critical to refer to the latest research and constantly update the knowledge of all those involved. Hybrid work can change employees’ opinions and attitudes and further diversify teams’ expectations towards managers as well as the tools they use. Practical implications: Good practices are identified and recommendations are formulated regarding the application of the tools by managers in practice. Originality/value: The article organizes the issues of using technical tools for management during forced remote work. It shows employees expectations and best practices, which could be valuable for managers.

Today, Internet has become a medium who simplifies and replaces many of the activities carried out so far in the other, less automated way. More and more tasks related to the functioning of society, it becomes possible to perform using the Internet. The project "E-matura" is the perfect answer to the above statement. By applying modern design, innovative technology activities carried out so far can be done cheaper, faster, automated and more accessible form, which is described in this article.

In the article the problems of micro-enterprises (1-5 persons) and small companies, which deal with selling retail and they must adapt to changes in the environment, which are caused by the large number of newly created large-format stores are presented. The paper shows how to use selected quality tools to define new business strategy for micro-enterprise and reorganization of the company.
W artykule przedstawiono problemy mikroprzedsiębiorstw (1-5 osób) i małych przedsiębiorstw, które zajmują się sprzedażą detaliczną i muszą dostosować się do zmian w środowisku, spowodowanych przez dużą liczbę nowo powstałych sklepów wielkopowierzchniowych. W artykule przedstawiono sposób użycia wybranych narzędzi jakości w celu określenia nowej strategii biznesowej dla mikroprzedsiębiorstw i reorganizacji firmy.

Purpose: The study aim is an in-depth investigation of a Lean tools implementation sequence in an organisation as an expression of a Lean journey within that organisation. The success factors of Lean tools implementation and the relationship between them are studied. A model of Lean tools implementation in an organisation is aimed to be developed. Design/methodology/approach: A case study method is employed in this study. It is conducted in a manufacturing company from the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry. The employed method allows exploitation of a variety of techniques in the investigation process: in-depth interviews, observations, documents and data analysis. The study takes into consideration a systematic literature review and bibliometric network analysis supported by the Vosviewer software tool. Findings: The implementation of Lean Manufacturing approach, along with accompanying tools and methods, is aimed at efficiency and/or quality results of the processes within a company. Selected tools, to be successfully implemented, should support the elimination or reduction of losses related to current process flows. There are many Lean tools available, but most do not fit all organisations and all the kinds of manufacturing processes. Therefore, proper preparation before implementation is an essential issue for any organisation striving for Lean outcomes. The available Lean tools, along with their implementation sequences, are not studied comprehensively in the literature. Originality/value: An organisational-development-driven model of Lean tools implementation is elaborated, based on the literature and empirical investigations. The decision to choose the appropriate Lean tool should be guided by general organisational development. Several factors need to be considered before the implementation process, namely, capabilities, resources, gains and return on expenditure. Top management engagement, appropriate communication and listening to line employees look to be key success factors in Lean tools implementation.

Purpose: The article presents the results of qualitative research related to identifying the set of skills needed in project management business analysis. Design/methodology/approach: To recognize the set of skills, it was important to focus on three pivotal issues, starting with specifying which layers of business analysis in project management can be extracted, then answering the question of which IT tools are to be used in this analysis as well, and which skills are needed to perform in it. The main research method was participation observation by way of the author’s involvement in a project management team. Findings: The following layers of business analysis in project management were established: 1) data management, 2) intelligent calculations, 3) delivery mode, 4) consumption device, 5) business enablement. The most important skills are as follows: joining disparate data sources, cleaning data, organizing data better, creating calculations, adjusting visualizations to the tools used by end-users to consume visualizations. MS Excel and MS Access were found to be valuable tools used in this analysis. Originality/value: New in the paper is an examination of the set of skills needed in the project management business analysis in the context of applying MS Excel and MS Access.

Opis:
Purpose: The purpose of including the following analysis was the problem diagnosed in a manufacturing company with hydraulic technology in the aspect of the growing number of hydraulic connected complaints. Therefore, a decision was made to analyze in detail the problem encountered with the available methods and tools. Design/methodology/approach: The study presents a literature approach to issues related to the effectiveness of the production process and the characteristics of the principles, methods, tools and techniques of quality management, as well as the practical application of the 5 WHY tool, based on a production enterprise from the hydraulic industry. Findings: The analysis carried out noticed problem using the Five Whys tool on the basis of data from a manufacturing enterprise from the hydraulic industry, as well as the created summaries of reasons for both quantitative and qualitative complaints in 2016 and 2017 enabled the identification of the main source of the diagnosed problem in the form of too many corroded hydraulic components in 2017 and the formulating of necessary recommendations to eliminate the above mentioned disadvantages of finished products for the enterprise. Practical implications: The introduced changes in the company from the hydraulic industry will significantly facilitate and improve the identification of defective products that should ultimately not reach the enterprise's customers. Originality/value: Formulating practical conclusions on using quality management tools in the aspect of the assessment of the effectiveness of the enterprise production process in the hydraulic industry.

Opis:
Purpose: The aim of this paper is to present an original proposal of a methodology to test the competencies of the young generation and how it may be used for working with young people. Design/methodology/approach: The research methodology presented in this paper is inspired by the assessment centre method, which is adapted for the purposes of testing the young generation, so that their competence potential may be determined based on original tasks. Findings: The paper describes what detailed competencies are revealed during the task performance. It allows to determine how a teacher may stimulate the development of a particular competency in a student by using it in the teaching process. It is demonstrated how introducing certain tasks to be done by students as part of their school life allows the young people to face potential challenges of the future labour market. Research limitations/implications: The paper presents the strengths and weaknesses of the presented methodology of competency test, pointing out to the difficulties caused by the time consumption involved in the completion of it. Practical implications: The research tools presented in this article allow for a multi-stage and multifaceted process of simulating the challenges which will be faced by young people when choosing a career. This way, young people could face varying challenges to help them determine what requirements and expectations they will face further in the education process and later, when entering the labour market under the Economy 4.0 conditions. Social implications: The education system must be improved towards a more practical approach to teaching and its better alignment with the requirements set out by the contemporary labour market. The prepared tools allow a teacher to determine the competencies held by a student and encourage his or her further development. Originality/value: The prepared tasks and the way of analysis of the results of the research are an original achievement of the research team who developed them. The developed methodology may expand the educational toolbox of teachers.

Opis:
Purpose: The purpose of the study is to identify the marketing tools most often used in communication with stakeholders by enterprises located in Poland, with different business profiles, different forms of ownership, differing in ownership capital and number of employees, to show the frequency of their use of modern tools in marketing communication and to determine their position in relation to traditional tools. In addition, to present significant differences between enterprises with the mentioned attributes in the frequency of their use of instruments. Design/methodology/approach: The survey was conducted on a random sample of 225 enterprises in July-September 2020 throughout Poland (16 provinces). The method used in the study was a diagnostic survey. Findings: The results of the research prove that an important feature of marketing communications of modern enterprises is the integration of promotional instruments and activities. Tools based on new technologies are gaining popularity, but they are not displacing traditional tools. The frequency with which organizations use selected marketing tools is determined by various attributes of the organization, i.e. the business profile and size of the organization, especially the ownership capital. Research limitations/implications: The results of the survey prompt a broader and more in-depth analysis of the marketing activities of modern companies in the context of the marketing tools they use. This primarily concerns the determination of the recipients of marketing messages, the frequency of communication with them through selected instruments. Practical implications: The survey results show that foreign-owned companies are using more traditional and new marketing communication instruments. Therefore, companies with Polish capital need to accelerate the integration of promotional instruments and activities in the activity. Originality/value: The article is primarily of cognitive value, emphasizing the importance of modern technologies in the marketing activities of enterprises. Consequently, it can be an element that stimulates the management of modern organizations to seek and apply marketing instruments using the latest technological solutions to reach specific groups of stakeholders.

Artykuł przedstawia narzędzia wspomagające kontrolę menedżerską oraz planowanie finansowe ze szczególnym zwróceniem uwagi na narzędzie planowania i kontroli w postaci strategicznej karty wyników, benchmarkingu oraz analizy SWOT. Wykorzystując badania literaturowe oraz własne doświadczenia praktyczne, związane z budową planów krótkoi długoterminowych, w prezentowanym artykule szczególną uwagę zwrócono na fakt, że wdrożenie ww. narzędzi jest procesem długotrwałym, wymagającym zaangażowania wszystkich służb w przedsiębiorstwie. Następnie konieczne jest opracowanie strategii działania z wyszczególnieniem celów organizacji i wyborem odpowiednich mierników efektywności. Podkreślając wagę narzędzi kontrolingu w zarządzaniu przedsiębiorstwem, zwrócono również uwagę na zaangażowanie i zmotywowanie pracowników, którzy odczuwając wspólne wyzwanie, stają się odpowiedzialni za los swojego przedsiębiorstwa. Podkreślono, że właśnie to, a nie cele ani mierniki są najważniejszą, integralną częścią każdej opracowanej w indywidualny sposób koncepcji strategicznej karty wyników.
The author of the article tried to introduce tools to help control managerial and financial planning, with particular emphasis on planning and control tool in the form of the Balanced Scorecard, benchmarking and SWOT analysis. Using the research literature and their own practical experience with the construction of short and long term plans in the present article drew attention to the fact that the implementation tools is a long process that requires the involvement of all departments in the company, then it is necessary to develop a strategy detailing the objectives of the organization and the selection of appropriate measures of effectiveness.

Celem artykułu było zwrócenie uwagi na istotę narzędzi zarządzania jakością, które chronią przedsiębiorstwo przed zagrożeniem w postaci wad, a w konsekwencji odpływem klientów. Przedstawiono analizę przyczyn wystąpienia wady, jaką jest niedostateczne przyleganie okleiny do ramiaka pionowego drzwi wewnątrzlokalowych STILE. W tym celu wykorzystano takie narzędzia jak diagram Ishikawy oraz metodę FMEA. W wyniku badań zidentyfikowano kluczowe przyczyny występowania wady oraz zaproponowano sposoby ich eliminacji.
The aim of the study was to draw attention to the essence of quality management tools that protect the company from the risk of defects and consequently the outflow of customers. The paper presents an analysis of the causes of the defect of insufficient adhesion of the veneer to the vertical stile of the STILE internal door. For this purpose, tools such as the Ishikawa diagram and the FMEA method were used. As a result of the study, the main causes of the defect were identified and methods of elimination.

Autorka, na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań, dokonuje analizy przydatności technik zarządzania jakością, zidentyfikowanych, jako najczęściej wykorzystywane w badanej grupie przedsiębiorstw. Porusza aspekt nie tylko ich przydatności w podejmowanych dotychczas działaniach, ale także analizę opinię przedsiębiorców, dotyczącą ewentualnego wykorzystania wskazanych technik w przyszłości.
Progressing economic changes force organizations to introduce consistent actions whose aim is to improve processes taking place in them. If undertaken actions are to produce a desired result, they should be accompanied by application of diverse pro-quality tools and methods. On the basis of the conducted research, the author analyzes the usefulness of quality management techniques identified as the most frequently utilized in the examined group of companies. Not only does the author discuss the aspect of their usefulness in activities undertaken so far, but she also analyzes entrepreneurs' opinions on potential application of the designated techniques in future.

Pomimo dynamicznego rozwoju grupy narzędzi, jaką są arkusze kalkulacyjne, pracownicy stosujący je w swojej codziennej pracy wykorzystują jedynie niewielką grupę dostępnych w ich zakresie mechanizmów i funkcji. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań dotyczących wykorzystania różnych elementów arkuszy kalkulacyjnych przez osoby pracujące w dziale magazynowania i dystrybucji polskiego oddziału międzynarodowego przedsiębiorstwa branży handlowej, działającego na rynku żywności, środków czystości oraz pielęgnacji ciała. Dla każdego z wybranych elementów ocenione zostało jego ogólne wykorzystanie, przydatność oraz znajomość wśród pracowników. Dodatkowo wśród badanych osób zidentyfikowane zostały najistotniejsze źródła wiedzy oraz umiejętności w zakresie używania rozpatrywanej grupy narzędzi.
Despite the dynamic development of the group of software tools represented by spreadsheets, those using them in everyday work utilise only a limited number of mechanisms and functions they offer. This article provides a discussion on the results of studies concerning utilisation of various elements of spreadsheets by persons employed at the warehousing and distribution department of a Polish division of an international trade enterprise. An assessment comprising each of the selected elements covered its overall utilisation, applicability and the degree the employees were familiar with one. Furthermore, the most important sources of knowledge and skills applied in using the given group of tools were identified among those surveyed.

This paper presents selected quality tools that have been used to identify incompatibilities and their causes in the laser cutting process. As a result of the studies and analyzes, it was found that errors made by the TPM Maintenance Services, such as the failure of the laser to be included in the inspection and maintenance schedule and improperly scheduled employee training, led to the production of some 4500 non-compliant products per batch, representing about 30% products in each batch. The research has made it possible to identify the causes of nonconformity and to plan the correct actions to eliminate them.
Artykuł przedstawia wybrane narzędzia jakości, które posłużyły do identyfikacji niezgodności i ich przyczyn w procesie cięcia laserowego. W wyniku przeprowadzonych badań i analiz ustalono, że błędy popełnione przez służby Utrzymania Ruchu TPM, takie jak: nieuwzględnienie lasera w planie przeglądów i konserwacji maszyn oraz niewłaściwie zaplanowane szkolenia pracowników, doprowadziły do wyprodukowania około 4500 wyrobów niespełniających wymagań na partię, co stanowi około 30% niezgodnych wyrobów w każdej partii. Przeprowadzone badania umożliwiły określenie przyczyn nie-zgodności oraz zaplanowanie właściwych działań w celu ich eliminacji.

Przedstawiono istotne cechy przedsiębiorstw opartych na wiedzy oraz przedstawiono wyniki badań kwestionariuszowych, przeprowa-dzonych w przedsiębiorstwach budowy maszyn w zakresie wsparcia wybranych obszarów działalności przedsiębiorstw narzędziami zarządzania. Badania zrealizowano w ramach projektu badawczego rozwojowego pt.: „System komputerowy wspomagania zarządzania w zakresie zarządzania wiedzą w przedsiębiorstwach przemysłu budowy maszyn” w latach 2010-2013, nr 03-0112-10 /2010 z dnia 09.12.2010 r.
The aim of the article is to present some management tools and their impact on the functioning of a knowledge-based enterprises in the context of implementation of the actions taken by them and processes. Paper presents essential features of a knowledge-based businesses, and presents the results of questionnaires carried out in mechanical engineering enterprises in areas of business management tools. The study was carried out in the research and development project named: “Computer-aided management system in the field of knowledge management in engineering industries companies” in 2010-2013, No. 03-0112-10/2010 dated 09.12.2010.
