Opis:
With learning contexts globally promoting putting learners in the centre, it is no surprise that autonomous learning will gain ground in contemporary classrooms. As there is no learner autonomy without autonomous teachers, investigating instructors’ preferences about autonomous learning is necessary for more successful language education. The research assessed Georgian teachers’ viewpoints on fostering autonomous learning in EFL acquisition. The study employed a close-ended questionnaire completed by over 100 teachers. The analysis concludes that Georgian teachers associate obstacles with a lack of resources, technical problems, and class size, while challenges linked to teachers include lack of experience, limited development opportunities, and time management.

Opis:
Psychometrically sound and practical measures of school value, teacher autonomy, and teacher motivation were developed. Further, this study examined relationships among school value, teacher autonomy, and teacher motivation and compared the differences between elementary and secondary school teachers in those variables. Findings showed that those measures are reliable and valid. Also, elementary school teachers scored higher in those three variables than secondary school teachers. Particularly, school value and teacher autonomy were significant predictors of teacher motivation. The implication for school organization is to enhance positive school value and provide teachers with more autonomy, which will encourage teacher motivation.

Whoever reflects upon the development and reasoning of pedagogical thoughts and actions faces the problematic subject. ‘The’ subject seems to figure as the basis of it all. Whilst all other key terms and categories are constantly open to negotiation, the ‘subject’ presents itself as self-evident rather than as an entity to be argued at length. Yet, some questions remain unanswered. Why is this the case? Furthermore, what kind of subject do we refer to? In this article the central issues concerning ‘The Subject and Pedagogy’ as well as first findings of this ongoing research by the author are being discussed. The main focus is not on the results. What is of crucial importance with regard to the following text are the allusions to the apories which accompany any paradigm of the subject. This holds true of every single stage: the subject of philosophy, the subject of pedagogy and the pedagogues’ subject.

Many authors have spoken against controlling environments and in favour of autonomous ones. In order to estimate perceived autonomy levels in the classroom, we decided to compare teachers’ perceptions with students’ ones, gaining a more accurate idea of the autonomy levels present in the classroom. The study participants (231 students, 18 teachers) provided data which showed how the teachers’ perceptions differ from the students’ ones in all cases, generally the teachers rating autonomy levels higher than the students. We also found indicators of differences present among teachers of the same subject areas as well as in terms of the students’ gender, school and age.

The research focuses on the perspectives of development of the strategic management in Ukrainian higher education. Strategic management is widely used by European higher education institutions and cannot be avoided by Ukrainian institutions if they are going to develop for a better future. Ukrainian higher education institutions are in the transition state and their understanding of strategic management is at the initial stage and further evolvement of the strategic management in Ukrainian higher education requires reforms from the state and willingness of the higher education institutions to accept the challenges of the modern environment.

Opis:
The article is focused on the analysis of the essence, purpose and meaning (sense) of evaluation and self-evaluation processes in the school environment. It is an attempt to analyse the pedagogical evaluation as both a specific theoretical problem and a long-term, systematic process by means of which the school is able to reflect and evaluate its work quality in a critical way, to initiate changes and thus to improve and upgrade its quality. The above idea is based on an assumption that the development of the good quality school depends on its concept as an open, co-operative and learning institution focused on educational, cultural and public awareness objectives; and the systematic reflecting, checking and evaluating of its objectives, progress and results form an integral part of its (internal) culture.

Academic achievement varies according to the perception of learning environments (LE). The current study aimed to investigate how the perception of LE differs according to level of academic achievement. 1,106 Thai undergraduate students replied to a survey. Analyzing the data with One-way analysis of variance differences were found in perception of the LE in terms of task orientation and instructor feedback. Average-achieving students perceived task orientation higher than high and low-achieving students. High-achieving students perceived instructor feedback the most. This study provides insights into each type of LE applied in the classroom and suggests how individual academic achievers can be suitably enhanced.

Opis:
The study answers the question whether the teaching profession has the attributes typical of genuine professions. It presents an analysis of the state of fulfilling the requirements of the teaching profession. It focuses especially on the description of the level of teachers’ professional identity in Slovakia. It argues that to be an autonomous subject is the basic requirement of a teacher’s expertise. It gives characteristics of the current understanding of the expertise in the teaching profession and professional knowledge, needed for a teacher’s performance that is based on the cycle of integrating theory and practice and its reflection. It describes two main hindrances to the transition of a teaching career into an expert profession: a) the existing legislative barriers that separate the expertise and the teaching competence; and b) current obstacles in the university teacher training, especially in its curriculum and in the methodology used by university teacher trainers.
