Opis:
In this paper a model of the dynamics of four-rotor flying robot is described in details. Control design must be preceded by the modeling and subsequent analysis of the robot behavior in simulator. It is therefore necessary to develop the mathematical model as accurate as it is possible. The paper contains a detailed derivation of the mathematical model in the context of physics laws affecting the quadrocopter. The novelty of presented notation is an extention of Coriolis forces in linear acceleration and the gyroscopic effect on angular acceleration. In the validation phase, the mathematical model was verified with the use of proposed control algorithms. Simulation studies have demonstrated the adequacy of a MATLAB model to properly reflect the real quadrocopter dynamics. This would allow for its use in the simulator and afterwards to implement and verify of control laws on the real fourrotor flying robot.

Opis:
Different from a conventional aircraft, an investigation on system identification and control design has been carried out on a small fixed‐wing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) with segmented ailerons. The multiple aileron setup is configured as a multi‐input and single‐output system, and each segment is modeled as a control input. Experiments are conducted in the wind tunnel to determine the frequency responses of the system and the corresponding transfer functions. Multiple PID controllers are designed and implemented in a cascaded form for each control surface. Furthermore, a heuristic switching control strategy is implemented for the aircraft where the multiple aileron segments perform as a single aileron pair in a normal flight condition and adapt to multi‐segment control when encountering severe turbulence or significant angle reference changes. Experimental results reveal that although each control surface can stabilize the aircraft, the proposed control strategy by combining the multiple actuation surfaces reduces the mean squared errors for the roll angle up to 38 percent in the highly turbulent en vironment providing superior disturbance rejection properties.

Opis:
Mobile robots can be used to support humans in many applications ranging from simple process automation to complex autonomous inspection tasks. While walking robots are perfectly suited to cross rough terrain, they are not able to detect everything in their environment as certain areas might be occluded or too far away. This paper presents a method of enhancing the sensor capabili- ties of the walking robot LAURON IVc with the use of the lightweight aerial robot ARDrone. A simple method for localization of the ready to use UAV is presented using only color tags and the motor encoders of LAURON. The combination of these two robot types enhances the sensor range of LAURON greatly, while the ARDrone gains localiza tion information from LAURON that acts as a base station.

Opis:
This paper deals with the design of an adaptive-fuzzy-PD-Sliding mode controller to achieve stabilization of a quadrotor aircraft in the presence of wind disturbance. Firstly, the dynamic system modeling is carried out using Euler-Lagrange formalism. Then, an adaptive PD-sliding mode control system with an integral-operation switching surface is investigated for quadrotor desired trajectory tracking. Finally, an adaptive fuzzy-PD-sliding mode controller is proposed to achieve control objectives and system stabilization where the fuzzy logic system used to dynamically control parameters settings of the PD-sliding mode equivalent control law. Effectiveness and robustness of the proposed control scheme is verified through simulation results taking into account external disturbances. The simulation results of a quadrotor aircraft control with the proposed controller demonstrate the high performance during flight such as null tracking error and robustness in the presence of external disturbances.

To ensure reliable execution of flight tasks in the presence of both external perturbations and internal parametric perturbations, deterioration of the characteristics of the sensors, a control system structure based on intelligent technologies is proposed. The process of forming a “knowledge base” of a fuzzy controller is considered. The results of mathematical modeling of the longitudinal UAV control channel with a PID-controller and a fuzzy controller in the control loop are presented.

Opis:
Knowing how to identify terrain types is especially important in the autonomous navigation, mapping, decision making and emergency landings areas. For example, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) can use it to find a suitable landing position or to cooperate with other robots to navigate across an unknown region. Previous works on terrain classification from RGB images taken onboard of UAVs shown that only static pixel-based features were tested with a considerable classification error. This paper presents a computer vision algorithm capable of identifying the terrain from RGB images with improved accuracy. The algorithm complement the static image features and dynamic texture patterns produced by UAVs rotors downwash effect (visible at lower altitudes) and machine learning methods to classify the underlying terrain. The system is validated using videos acquired onboard of a UAV with a RGB camera.
