Opis:
Crystal structure and transport properties of the mixed praseodymium cobaltites-ferrites PrCo_{1-x}Fe_xO₃ have been studied in the temperature range of 298-1173 K by a combination of in situ X-ray synchrotron powder diffraction and temperature dependent impedance spectroscopy measurements. In situ high temperature powder diffraction examination of PrCo_{1-x}Fe_xO₃ series revealed considerable anomalies in the lattice expansion which are especially pronounced for the cobalt-rich specimens. These anomalies, which are reflected in a sigmoidal dependence of the unit cell dimensions and in the considerable increase of the thermal expansion coefficients, are obviously associated with transitions of Co^{3+} ions from low spin to the higher spin states and the coupled metal-insulator transitions, occurring in in rare earth cobaltites at the elevated temperatures. Indeed, the temperature-dependent impedance measurements clearly prove the change of conductivity type from dielectric to the metallic behaviour in the mixed cobaltite-ferrites PrCo_{1-x}Fe_xO₃ at the elevated temperatures.

Opis:
Oxide crystal scintillators play a considerable role in fundamental and applied researches. However, working out of new generation of high-sensitivity equipment and new methods of research puts higher requirements. The $ZnBO_{4}$ (B = W, Mo) crystals were grown from charge in platinum crucibles with high frequency heating, using the Czochralski method. The raw powder with optimum composition was prepared by solid phase high temperature synthesis using ZnO and $BO_{3}$ (B = W, Mo) with 4-5N purity. Single crystals with sizes up to ∅ 50 × 100 mm were grown and scintillation elements of various sizes and shapes (cylinders, rectangular and hexahedron prisms) were produced. High spectrometric characteristics were obtained for $ZnWO_{4}:R$ = 8-10% under excitation by $\text{}^{137}Cs (E_{γ}$=662 keV), low radiation background (less than 0.2 mBq/kg) and low afterglow (0.002%, 20 ms after excitation). The obtained results demonstrate good prospects for $ZnWO_{4}$ and ZnMoO_{4} crystal scintillators for application in low-count rate experiments, searching for double beta decay processes, interaction with dark matter particles, and also studies of rare decay processes. The material has also a good potential for application in modern tomography, scintillation bolometers and for other major researches using scintillators.

Epitaxial LuBa$\text{}_{2}$Cu$\text{}_{3}$O$\text{}_{7-δ}$ films were prepared by flash evaporation MOCVD on LaAlO$\text{}_{3}$, SrTiO$\text{}_{3}$, LaSrGaO$\text{}_{4}$ and ZrO$\text{}_{2}$(Y$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{3}$) single crystalline substrates. The highest T$\text{}_{c}$ and j$\text{}_{c}$ (77 K, 100 Oe) values were 89 K, 2.7×10$\text{}^{6}$ A/cm$\text{}^{2}$ (LaAlO$\text{}_{3}$) and 88 K, 1.5×10$\text{}^{6}$ A/cm$\text{}^{2}$ (SrTiO$\text{}_{3}$) respectively. The occurrence of secondary phases inclusions in LuBa$\text{}_{2}$Cu$\text{}_{3}$O$\text{}_{7-δ}$ films correlates with the possibility of epitaxial relations with the film matrix or the substrate.

We report the first application of sublimation molecular beam epitaxy to grow uniformly and selectively doped Si:Er layers with Er concentration up to 5×10$\text{}^{18}$ cm$\text{}^{-3}$. The Hall concentration of electrons is about 10% of total Er contents. The mobility is 300-400 cm$\text{}^{2}$ V$\text{}^{-1}$ s$\text{}^{-1}$ at 300 K. All samples exhibit photoluminescence at 1.537 μm up to 100-140 K.

Opis:
Antiferromagnetic interlayer exchange coupling in semiconductor EuS-PbS-EuS ferromagnetic trilayers grown on PbS (001) substrates with ultrathin (0.6-1.2 nm) nonmagnetic PbS spacers is studied by SQUID magnetometry and model calculations. Analysis of the experimentally observed magnetic field and temperature dependence of the magnetization of EuS-PbS structures reveals a rapid decrease in the interlayer coupling energy with increasing temperature indicating a temperature dependence of the microscopic coupling mechanism acting in these all-semiconductor ferromagnetic/nonmagnetic multilayers.

Opis:
Magnetic properties of semiconductor EuS(t)-PbS(d)-EuS(t) ferromagnetic trilayers (t=30÷300Å and d=7.5÷70Å) grown on n-type monocrystalline PbS (100) substrate were studied by SQUID magnetometry and ferromagnetic resonance technique yielding, in particular, the dependence of the ferromagnetic Curie temperature on the thickness of the EuS layer. Structural parameters of layers were examined by X-ray powder diffraction analysis. A high structural quality of the substrate and the multilayer was verified by the measurements of the X-ray rocking curve width indicating the values of the order of 100 arcsec and by atomic force microscopy revealing the presence on the cleft PbS surface regions practically flat in the atomic scale over the area of 1×0.1μm$\text{}^{2}$.

Opis:
The surface states of 3d transition metals are studied by scanning tunneling microscopy and scanning tunneling spectroscopy. The results show that surface states can be used for chemical identification with high spatial resolution. The spin polarized nature of the surface states allows us to obtain magnetic contrast in scanning tunneling miroscopy imaging with near atomic resolution. For Cr(100) we found that the surface state close to the Fermi level can be explained by an orbital Kondo resonance surface state.
