Opis:
The paper presents results of sintering proppants parameters and its influence on light ceramic proppants obtained by the mechanical granulation method. The proppants were prepared basing on a ceramic composition consisting of three raw materials such as kaolin, clay and bauxite mixed with poly(vinyl alcohol) binder with a molecular weight 26000 g/mol and hydrolysis degree of 88%, added in amount of 5 wt% with respect to the powder. Sintering temperature range oscillated between 1200 and 1225°C, kiln rotations were 1-2 rpm. Sintered proppants were characterized in compliance with PN-EN ISO 13503-2 norm and bulk density, sphericity coefficient, turbidity, solubility in acids and scanning electron microscopy observations have been estimated. The results demonstrated that sintering temperature and kiln rotation have an essential effect of the proppants parameters.

Opis:
The investigation of fabricated ceramic materials, which can be used as proppants, is presented. Proppants are ceramic materials applied in hydraulic fracturing during extraction of shale gas. Solid slurry pumped with liquid into the deposit causes destruction of the rock structure. The role of proppants is to avoid closing of formed pores and as result enable gas migration from the deposit. Due to processing requirements and conditions in formations (high pressure and temperature), proppants should be characterized by proper physico-mechanical properties. The aim of this work was to elaborate the preparation method of ceramic materials, which can be used as proppants. In this paper results of properties studies of obtained proppants are presented. The influence of raw materials composition, especially the type of applied binder, was examined. Two types of green proppants obtained by the method of mechanical granulation without binder and with poly(vinyl alcohol) in amount of 5 wt% with respect to the powder were used. The properties: bulk density, roundness and sphericity coefficient, grain size and also structure and morphology of proppants was determined by the method of scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy. The results indicate that composition of raw materials and type of binder have an important influence on the properties of obtained proppants in green state.

Transverse magnetoresistivity (H ∥ [001]; and current ∥ [110]) of U$\text{}_{3}$As$\text{}_{4}$ has been measured in field up to 35 T. An abrupt change of the magnetoresistivity behaviour from saturated (low field) to unsaturated (high field) type was observed at the spin reorientational transition (19.1 T at 4.2 K). The transition is accompanied by a peak in the magnetoresistivity. The behaviour is ascribed to fractional spin polarization of the band electrons.

Opis:
In this work technological properties of ceramic slurries based on silicon carbide powder with solid content 70 wt% were presented. These slurries were prepared for obtaining shell moulds in precision casting of Ni superalloys engine parts. The main binder was dispersion containing nanoalumina particles. Additionally poly(vinyl alcohol) with molecular weight 26000 g/mol as 5 wt% water solution was used as a rheological modifier. To characterize silicon carbide: scanning electron microscopy images, chemical composition, Zeta potential and grain size were studied. Technological properties of ceramic slurries i.e.: plate weight test, viscosity, dynamic viscosity, density and pH were investigated. Properties of silicon carbide based ceramic slurries are very promising and their shell moulds are very perspective for future application in aerospace industry.

Opis:
Magnetisation and longitudinal magnetoresistance of single-crystal samples of two compositions: stoichiometric compound $U_3P_4$ and its solid solution $U_3(P,As)_4$ (with As:P ratio close to 1) were measured in pulsed magnetic fields with strength up to 47 T, and in temperatures from 4 K up to few tens of kelvins above the Curie temperatures (135 K and 181 K for both compositions, respectively). Field was always applied along a hard magnetic direction [100]. Magnetisation experiments showed no sign of expected magnetic-moment-reorientation transition and data look quantitatively similar for both compositions. On the other hand, longitudinal magnetoresistance (MR) is remarkably different for each composition. Onset of the above mentioned transition can be held responsible for broad maxima observed in MR(B) curves for $U_3(P,As)_4$. Values of magnetic field strength corresponding to these maxima follow a linear dependence on temperature. We assume that these features of MR(B) curves are due to progressive deformation of magnetic structure of $U_3(P,As)_4$ in high magnetic fields.

Influence of pressure on the phase transition temperature T$\text{}_{C}$ and on the spontaneous magnetisation M$\text{}_{0}$ of highly Sr substituted and oxygen nonstoichiometric La$\text{}_{1-x}$Sr$\text{}_{x}$CoO$\text{}_{3-δ}$ samples was investigated. An increase in T$\text{}_{C}$ and M$\text{}_{0}$ with pressure in investigated samples was found, indicating strengthening of ferromagnetic double exchange interactions, and the expansion of volume of ferromagnetic phase as a~result of enhancement in ferromagnetic interactions in both cluster-glass and long range ferromagnetic states. We did not observe clear correlation between changes in pressure coefficient dT$\text{}_{C}$/dP and changes in the formal oxidation state of the Co ion.

An influence of hydrostatic pressure, P, on phase transition temperature, T$\text{}_{C}$, and spontaneous magnetisation, M$\text{}_{0}$, of selected perovskite ruthenates (SrRuO$\text{}_{3}$, La$\text{}_{0.2}$Sr$\text{}_{0.8}$RuO$\text{}_{3}$, SrRu$\text{}_{0.9}$Mn$\text{}_{0.1}$O$\text{}_{3}$, and SrRu$\text{}_{0.9}$Cr$\text{}_{0.1}$O$\text{}_{3}$) was determined to 12 kbar. A decrease in T$\text{}_{C}$ with pressure was found for all of the studied samples. The M$\text{}_{0}$(P) remains unchanged for most of the samples, except for the La$\text{}_{0.2}$Sr$\text{}_{0.8}$RuO$\text{}_{3}$ sample. The weakening of ferromagnetic interactions with increasing pressure is consistent with complex band structure effects related to the modulation of the Ru-O hybridisation by the change of structural distortion.

Opis:
In this paper we report preliminary results of optical studies on Y$\text{}_{3}$Al$\text{}_{5}$O$\text{}_{12}$ (YAG) crystals codoped with Ce and Mg. By using measurements of luminescence, absorption, and luminescence excitation spectra we demonstrate that although the basic features introduced to the YAG host by the Ce-doping remain intact, the Mg-codoping imposes some significant changes on other properties of the material. These changes are potentially important for laser and/or scintillator applications of YAG:Ce and are due, most likely, to modifications of defect populations in the material. We characterize them by using the techniques of thermoluminescence and excited state absorption under excimer laser pumping. These techniques, interestingly, yield results that seem inconsistent. While the thermoluminescence signal of the Mg-doped sample is strongly reduced, suggesting that trap concentrations in the presence of Mg are suppressed, the excited state absorption signal, which we also relate to the traps, is higher. We offer a tentative explanation of this contradiction between the two experiments that involves a massive transfer of electrons from the Mg-related defects to the excited state absorption centers caused by the excimer pump itself.

Syntheses of superconducting iron chalcogenides $FeSe_{1 - x}$ (x = 0-0.15) and $FeTe_{1 - y}Se_{y}$ (y = 0.3-0.55) were performed. Superconducting phase of iron selenide was obtained by the solid-state reaction and from liquid phase. The highest values of critical temperature ($T_c$ = 8.2-8.7 K) exhibit $FeSe_{1-x}$ obtained by the crystallization from a melt with excess of iron less than 1 mol%. The samples from a melt contain up to 78% of tetragonal phase, as estimated by the X-ray diffraction. Lattice parameters and unit cell volume for the samples exhibiting highest $T_{c}$ and sharpest transition to superconducting state are limited to narrow range, with c/a ratio close to 1.469. The samples with excess of selenium contain higher amount of hexagonal phase than stoichiometric one. Superconducting single-crystalline samples of $FeTe_{1 - y}Se_{y}$ (up to 100% of tetragonal phase) were obtained using Bridgman's method. When y value increases, the volume of unit cell decreases. The critical temperature $T_{c}$ changes from ≈ 11.5 K for y ≈ 0.3 to ≈ 14.7 K for y ≈ 0.5.

Opis:
We present experimental evidence that at high pressures indium donors in CdTe localize electrons in spatially correlated manner. We have studied Hall mobility, μ$\text{}_{H}$, as a function of electron concentration, n$\text{}_{H}$, at T=77 K. Changes of n$\text{}_{H}$ have been achieved by two methods. High pressure freeze-out of electrons onto localized states of In-donors leads to the mobility enhancement with respect to the situation when n$\text{}_{H}$ has been modified by means of a subsequent annealing of the sample. As a result, depending on the degree of spatial correlations in the impurity charges arrangement, different values of μ$\text{}_{H}$ correspond to the same value of n$\text{}_{H}$. The variation of mobility with electron concentration suggests that the localized state of In-donor represents likely negatively charged DX state.

Room temperature, continuous wave operation of InGaN multi-quantum wells laser diodes made by rf plasma assisted molecular beam epitaxy at 411 nm wavelength is demonstrated. The threshold current density and voltage were 4.2 kA/cm$\text{}^{2}$ and 5.3 V, respectively. High optical power output of 60 mW was achieved. The lifetime of these laser diodes exceeds 5 h with 2 mW of optical output power. The laser diodes are fabricated on low dislocation density bulk GaN substrates, at growth conditions which resembles liquid phase epitaxy. We demonstrate that relatively low growth temperatures (600-700°C) pose no intrinsic limitations for fabrication of nitride optoelectronic components by plasma assisted molecular beam epitaxy.
