Opis:
In this paper we present the results of ESR and photo-ESR measurements on YAlO$\text{}_{3}$(YAP) single crystals and powder samples doped purposely with about 1 at.% Nd$\text{}^{3+}$ and undoped crystals in which Er$\text{}^{3+}$ was observed as residual dopant. The ESR measurements were carried out at X-band spectrometer in 4-300 K temperature range. The photo-ESR was performed at 5 K using a mercury arc lamp. For the Nd$\text{}^{3+}$ doped crystals the intensity of ESR signal decreased about 2 times during illumination conditions. Moreover, the calculations of the g tensor and A hyperfine structure parameters for Nd$\text{}^{3+}$ and Er$\text{}^{3+}$ were carried out.

New results concerning paramagnetic defects in SrLaAlO$\text{}_{4}$ and SrLaGaO$\text{}_{4}$ high-T$\text{}_{c}$ substrates connected with unavoidable impurity Fe$\text{}^{3+}$ are reported. The identification was checked by measuring the spectra in SrLaAlO$\text{}_{4}$ crystals intentionally doped with 0.5 at.% Fe. Angular dependences of three lines were distinguished at X-band frequency in the temperature range from 4 K to 300 K. We attribute these lines to the transitions inside the doublets ±1/2, and "forbidden" doublets ±3/2, ±5/2, respectively. By diagonalization of spin-Hamiltonian, parameters |D| > 1.2 cm$\text{}^{-1}$, |E| ≈ 0.1 cm$\text{}^{-1}$ and g$\text{}_{x}$=g$\text{}_{y}$=g$\text{}_{z}$= 1.987(13) for SrLaAlO$\text{}_{4}$ and SrLaGaO$\text{}_{4}$ were calculated and within the margin of error they were of the same value.

Opis:
The effect of annealing SrLaAlO$\text{}_{4}$ (SLA) and SrLaGaO$\text{}_{4}$ (SLG) crystals in oxidizing and reducing atmospheres in the temperature range of 950°C-1300°C was investigated. Three kinds of anisotropic defects D$\text{}_{1}$, D$\text{}_{2}$, and E at the temperature range of 4-300 K were found. By diagonalization of orthorhombic spin-Hamiltonian parameters: |D|=0.0541(10) cm$\text{}^{-1}$, |E|=0.0108(10) cm$\text{}^{-1}$, g$\text{}_{∥}$=0.883(5), and g$\text{}_{⊥ }$=1.922(5) for D$\text{}_{1}$ defects for SLG and SLA were calculated and they had the same values within the margin of error.

Opis:
The paper presents results of numerical analysis of AFM images of a surface of sandblasted Ti6Al7Nb alloys before and after wet etching procedure usually used for preparing commercially viable dental implants. Obtained results demonstrate that etching procedure efficiently cleans the implants as it leaves almost pure Ti-Al-Nb surface with trace amounts of alkali metals and increased hydrophobicity. Apart of that, it turned out that simple statistical measures of the height variations (root mean square roughness) only slightly change upon the treatment procedure, especially for scan lengths below 20 μm. On the other hand, correlation analysis exhibits bifractal surface patterns composed of regular residues left on otherwise helical ridges of the base material. Etching leaves its fingerprint in fractal dimension, but not in the corner frequency.

Opis:
The uniaxial anisotropy of magnetic properties of SrLa$\text{}_{1-x}$Nd$\text{}_{x}$AlO$\text{}_{4}$ single crystals (x = 0.01 and 0.05) was found from the measurements of temperature dependencies of magnetic susceptibility. Results of measurements, with magnetic field along a- and c-axis, are compared with the similar data obtained for CaNdAlO$\text{}_{4}$ crystal. The successful description of experimental data was done in frames of the crystal field approximation. The anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility appears due to crystal field acting on magnetic neodymium ions in a system without exchange interactions.

Opis:
Superconductivity of indium diffused GaAs was investigated. The superconductivity in these samples was identified by the magnetic susceptibility and the characteristic field modulated microwave absorption. The static magnetic susceptibility was measured from 40 K down to 2.5 K. The result shows two distinctive diamagnetic contributions within 7 K-2.5 K range. These diamagnetic contributions were correlated with the excess of In and Ga metal in GaAs.

Opis:
Oxidation process of Fe films under atmospheric conditions is depth limited such that an oxide covering layer with a well-defined thickness is formed by which the underlying metal is prevented from further oxidation. Iron thin film with an initial thickness d_{i}=4 nm was deposited onto 1.6 nm - V(110) buffer layer using UHV magnetron sputtering. The planar growth of Fe oxides was revealed by atomic force microscopy. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy studies performed after 250 days of oxidation revealed formation of a hematite (α-Fe₂O₃) ultrathin film on the metallic rest of iron. Furthermore, low temperature magnetic measurements of the oxidised Fe ultrathin film revealed an exchange anisotropy which is imposed to the metallic rest. As a result, we have observed at low temperatures a shift and broadening of the hysteresis loops due to the exchange interaction at the metal-oxide interface.

Opis:
We have studied oxidation kinetics of Fe thin film under atmospheric conditions using the fact that metallic iron is a ferromagnet but ultrathin natural iron oxides are approximately nonmagnetic at room temperature. As a consequence, oxidation is associated with a loss in total Fe magnetic moment. Results show that the sample with an initial Fe thickness equal to 10 nm oxidize relatively fast (time constant τ=0.05 day), whereby a constant amount of 2.5 nm of metal is transformed into oxides. For lower iron initial thickness (d_{i}=4 nm) the time constant for oxidation significantly increases reaching a value of 2 days. Furthermore, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy studies performed after 144 days of oxidation revealed formation of hematite (α-Fe₂O₃) thin film on the metallic rest of iron.
