The article aims at analyzing the biblical material about prophets. The undertaken considerations arrive to the conclusion that the prophets were realist strongly based upon earthly experiences while believing in God. They were not interested in favors of powerful rulers, nor did flatter ordinary people whose wants were to be always praised and admired. All they proclaimed resulted both from the analyses of the past, and the profound insight in the actual situation. Their conclusive sentence could be only one: Egypt is a delusive ally of Israel.

This paper focuses on two narratives of Israel: Paweł Smoleńki’s Izrael już nie frunie and Ela Sidi’s Izrael oswojony. These publications function as a pretext allowing us to analyse the ways in which literary representations of this country are constructed. What seems to be particularly interesting are the similar and diverting elements of both books. Their narrations rely on the social status of a storyteller, his or her motivations, and the position he or she assumes. Reading Smoleński’s and Sidi’s works results in parallel conclusions: Israel is a hardly graspable, exotic, and – in many respects – detached space.
Autorka przygląda się dwóm narracjom o Izraelu: reportażowi Pawła Smoleńskiego Izrael już nie frunie oraz opowieści Eli Sidi Izrael oswojony. Publikacje stanowią pretekst do analizy sposobu kreowania literackich reprezentacji kraju. Tym, co wydaje się szczególnie interesujące, są elementy wspólne obu książek oraz ich elementy odmienne. Czynniki wpływające na kształt narracji to rola, status i cel opowiadającego. Wnioski płynące z lektury obu tekstów są zbieżne – Izrael jest trudno uchwytnym, egzotycznym i pod wieloma względami niedostępnym miejscem.

The aim of study is to explain the link between gender and traffic accidents in Israel. Traffic violations are considered as intentional deviations from practices that are crucial to maintaining safety while driving. These violations are commonly referred to as a significant factor in causing traffic accidents; therefore, when examining the case of traffic accidents it is extremely important to look at factors involved in traffic violations as well. This article serves only to propose the thesis of honour cultures as a significant local factor contributing to traffic accidents, but its resolution is much too wide to be able to baseroad-safety programs upon it. A further development of this idea, on a local basis, will thus be of great help in the field.

The situation of conflict between Israelis and Palestinians has lasted for over a century with half of the century of increasing violence, especially after the Six Days War. The long-standing occupation has been leading to mental take over by this issue and dehumanization of opponents in both parties’ minds. Although in last decade one could see some symptoms of peace process, especially after Oslo agreement, violence always erupted despite the official papers. In this paper I will examine the conditions of societies in the Palestinian Autonomy and Israel with special emphasis on NGOs. Although it is obvious that civil society cannot be narrowed to the non-governmental organizations, one can say that the NGOs are the most visible and measurable among the signs of existence of civil society.

The purpose of the current study is to examine the differences in the functioning of school staff and management in the southern district (a peripheral area) and in the central district. This, in light of the Meitzav test (Hebrew acronym for School Efficacy and Growth Measures) administered in junior high schools from 2016-2019. The preparations undertaken by the school management and educational staff for the Meitzav and the resources allocated by the school principal for studying for these tests were examined. The research findings indicate that the significance of the Meitzav tests as perceived by the principal is critical for success on the tests in the core subjects of math, Hebrew, English, and science. The more principals see the Meitzav as an effective measurement tool for them and for the school’s progress, the more they will act to provide reinforcement learning, focus days in the core subject, individual learning, so that the preparation for this test will be optimal. The contribution of the current study is in understanding the pedagogic and organizational school processes that occur at the schools, which are required for the purpose of reaching measurable achievements. Understanding these processes and identifying them is extremely significant for the school principal and for the educational system in general regarding expectations of the school, its goals, and how they are achieved. The research findings might have a practical contribution to school principals and policy makers in the school educational system, while characterizing and examining positive change components in school management.

The article shows how the symbolism contained in the image of the Jewish state influenced, especially recently, the vectors of Israel’s security policy. Attention is paid to these aspects aimed at protecting national identity. The author tries to substantiate the influence of the cultural factor on Israel’s security policy. The research is based on historical analysis, source analysis, and descriptive narrative. The instruments and tools used by the state in the implementation of the aforementioned tasks are presented – from the basic laws and compatible legal acts regulating the social life of Israeli citizens to the policy of cultural and ethnic isolation and separation carried out by the armed forces. In the Middle East emphasizing one’s own individuality is a strategic goal, but the price of internal a conflicts can be high.

Opis:
Holocaust teaching is a foundation for deepening Jewish identity. Despite the stated goals of the trips to Poland, studies involving participating youngsters indicate that Holocaust education per se does not significantly affect their sense of Jewish identity. Nonetheless, Holocaust teaching through the journey to Poland enhances participants’ self-concept as Israelis, possibly because their Israeliness is associated with emotions such as power, pride, and hope. In view of these findings, the aim of this study is to examine whether and to what degree faith plays a role in the Holocaust teaching that is part of public and public-religious schools’ efforts to reinforce Jewish identity.

The 2005 Israeli disengagement from the Gaza Strip dramatically changed the political situation of said territory. Due to the poor economic situation of its inhabitants, itself caused by years of Israeli policy of isolation, and general perception of being mistreated by the Israeli government, the power vacuum created in the wake of the withdrawal was filled by Hamas. The fundamentalists took control of the Gaza Strip in 2007, which caused the decision-makers in Tel Aviv to take radical measures to deal with the organization. A tight blockade of the Gaza Strip was introduced and while it may have curbed some of Hamas activities, it also worsened the living conditions of the inhabitants, creating a humanitarian crisis. Israeli policy has been criticized by many members of the international community. Moreover, Tel Aviv carried out several military operations, two of which (“Cast Lead” in 2008/2009 and “Protective Edge” in 2014) were characterized by significantly high numbers of civilian deaths. All of these actions, aimed at eliminating terrorists and improving Israeli citizens' security, seem to be rather short-sighted. Israeli policy only popularizes Hamas propaganda among Palestinians, therefore strengthening the organization and creating a vicious circle of misery and violence.

The subject of my interest is to present the most important determinants of relations between the Russian Federation and Israel. The main purpose of this paper is to describe the current state of affairs in mutual contacts and their importance for international security. In addition, it will be important to try to answer the question of whether Russia will continue to play an important role as an economic and political partner of Israel in the near future, in the face of the gradual containment of the Syrian conflict. At the beginning, I intend to refer to the history of relations of both countries, dating back to the time of the existence of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and the breaking of diplomatic relations after the Six-Day War in June 1967. In the following part of the discussion, I present the relations of both entities immediately after the collapse of the Soviet empire and coming to power of Vladimir Putin, who from the beginning of his term in office has sought to significantly improve contacts with Israel. Then, I raise the problem of Moscow-Tel Aviv contacts after Benjamin Netanyahu took over as prime minister again and after the Arab Spring, which implied the conflict in Syria, during which Russia and Israel established cooperation. It will also be important to trace the attitude of the authorities in Tel Aviv to the annexation of Crimea and the war in eastern Ukraine. I would also like to refer to the relationship of both entities on the historical and cultural level, as well as on the economic and military level. In the summary, I highlight future perspectives and try to determine whether the current relations of both countries will intensify in the face of the end of war in Syria, and whether we can observe a close alliance of both countries now and in the future, or a limited partnership, determined by the need to implement real policy in the world.

The Judaica collected at the Central State Historical Archive of Ukraine in Lviv, also customarily referred to as the Bernardin Archive, constitute, without doubt, some of the most important source materials for the history of the Jews of Galicia and Lesser Poland. Particularly noteworthy are the archives devoted to the “National Zionist Organization in Lviv” (fond 338) and the “Jewish Religious Community in Lviv” (fond 701). However, it turns out that valuable materials on Jewish issues can also be found in the arvhives entitled “C.k. Namiestnictwo Galicyjskie”/”K.k.. Galizische Statthalterei” [Imperial royal Galician Governorate] (fond 146), which includes all documentation (nearly 200,000 archival units) produced for the most important political authority in Galicia in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The archives contains, e.g. the reports of the starostes regarding the activities of Zion (Jewish organizations for the colonization of the territory of Palestine), which are an invaluable source of knowledge about the beginnings of Jewish emigration to Palestine and, above all, its course in Galicia and the attitude of the state authorities. On the basis of the reports of district governors compiled in 1898, it may be possible to reconstruct the origins of the Zionist movement in Galicia.
Judaika zgromadzone w Centralnym Państwowym Archiwum Historycznym Ukrainy we Lwowie, zwanym również zwyczajowo Archiwum Bernardyńskim, należą bez wątpienia do najważniejszych materiałów źródłowych do historii Żydów galicyjskich i małopolskich. Na szczególne wyróżnienie zasługują zespoły poświęcone „Krajowej Organizacji Syjonistycznej we Lwowie” (fond 338) oraz „Żydowskiej gminie wyznaniowej we Lwowie” (fond 701)82. Okazuje się jednak, że wartościowe materiały dotyczące problematyki żydowskiej znajdziemy również w zespole zatytułowanym „C.k. Namiestnictwo Galicyjskie”/ „K.k. Galizische Statthalterei” (fond 146), który obejmuje wszelką dokumentację (blisko 200 tysięcy jednostek archiwalnych) wytworzoną dla potrzeb najważniejszej władzy politycznej w Galicji w XIX i w początkach XX w. W zespole tym znajdują się m.in. „Raporty starostów odnośnie działalności żydowskich organizacji do kolonizacji terytorium Palestyny Zion”, które stanowią niecenione źródło wiedzy na temat początków emigracji żydowskiej do Palestyny, a przede wszystkimi jej przebiegu w Galicji i stosunku do niej władz państwowych. Na podstawie sporządzonych w 1898 r. raportów starostów powiatowych można pokusić się o odtworzenie początków ruchu syjonistycznego w Galicji.

In ancient Israel, there were no well-defined organizational structures, which were within the framework of the state. Despite this the different generations of Israel survived and communicated a sense of belonging to the people. Three important factors can be identified which gave rise to the awareness of the unity of all the people of Israel. The first of these was derived from a single ancestor, then - the belief in one God and cult YHWH with the annual great feast. In the process of social development of Israel this became a foundation for the creation of a single administrative body with strictly designated borders and a central authority to which everything was subordinated. The creation of royal institutions was important. On the other hand, in ancient Israel there were centrifugal tendencies which manifested themselves at the beginning of the creation of the kingdom. This was apparent not only in the strictly outlined territories of the various generations, but also by the leadership of older generations or the cities. The separatist tendency has come to fruition after the death of the third king of Israel Solomon (970-931 BC), when all of Israel split into two independent states.

The resumption of Polish-Israeli diplomatic relations have begun the process of rebuilding broken relationships and building new areas in political and economic co- operation. One of the most important and specific areas of elationships are cultural rela-tions between the countries, which allows direct contact between the society of those two nations. In the history of Polish-Jewish relations this area is one of the most important because without grassroots initiatives and an open mind atmosphere, the official agreements, which are both necessary and beneficial, remain insufficient. This article presents the activities of the cultural relations after 1990. The author discusses the complexity of the actions, which on one hand take into consideration the history, and on the other hand, not overestimating its significance in current relationships, they concentrate on cultural, educational and scientific cooperation which support the openness for a new dialog. In spite numerous difficulties and burdens which are current in the Polish-Jewish relations the states and the societies of both countries have taken great strides to improve the relationship.

In this article I propose the term “Multicultural (un)employment”, which was created during the analysis of the situation in the multicultural Israeli labor market. First, I describe multiculturalism in Israel. Next, I discuss the Israeli labor market from a societal perspective. And then I characterized the Israeli labor market in view of the internal-group. The article is completed by the following conclusions. Statistics in Israel show low unemployment in a multicultural society but these statistics do not cover the groups which hardly participate in the labor market (Ultra-orthodox and Arabs). These groups are characterized by the cultural difference and high unemployment rate.

Main purpose of this paper is to: 1) define the overall role of diaspora interest groups in American political system, and 2) assess their real impact on the course of the federal elections in the United States. The analysis has been narrowed to Jewish organizations commonly referred as „pro-Israel lobby” and their political activity. Author described main tools and mechanisms used by Jewish pressure groups to exert influence on democratic institutions in the US, in order to pursue their ethnic interests.
Celem artykułu jest określenie roli i znaczenia diasporalnych grup interesu w systemie politycznym Stanów Zjednoczonych oraz ocena ich realnego wpływu na przebieg wyborów federalnych w tym państwie. Przedmiotem analizy jest działalność żydowskich organizacji diasporalnych określanych potocznie mianem „lobby pro-izraelskiego”. W ramach postawionego problemu badawczego opisane zostały również narzędzia oraz mechanizmy wykorzystywane przez żydowskie grupy nacisku politycznego w zakresie wywierania wpływu na instytucje demokratyczne w USA.
