Opis:: It is well known that versal deformations of nonsimple singularities depend on moduli. However they can be topologically trivial along some or all of them. The first step in the investigation of this phenomenon is to determine the versal discriminant (unstable locus), which roughly speaking is the obstacle to analytic triviality. The next one is to construct continuous liftable vector fields smooth far from the versal discriminant and to integrate them. In this paper we extend the results of J. Damon and A. Galligo, concerning the case of the Pham singularity ($J_{3,0}$ in Arnold's classification) (see [2, 3, 4]), and deal with deformations of general $J_{k,0}$ singularities.

is a natural generalization of the bifurcation variety of G. We investigate the local structure of $Q_{Λ}(G)$ for locally trivial deformations of $Λ₀ = π_{r}^{-1}(0)$. In particular, we construct an algorithm for determining logarithmic stratifications provided G is versal.

Opis:: The most elegant definition of singularities in general relativity as b-boundary points, when applied to the closed Friedman world model, leads to the disastrous situation: both the initial and final singularities form the single point of the b-boundary which is not Hausdorff separated from the rest of space-time. We apply Alain Connes' method of non-commutative geometry, defined in terms of a C*-algebra, to this case. It turns out that both the initial and final singularities can be analysed as representations of the C*-algebra in a Hilbert space. The method does not distinguish points in space-time, but identifies space slices of the closed Friedman model as states of the corresponding C*-algebra.

Opis:: It is proved that the Window Average Gradient (WAG) scheme designed to detect singularities in the turbulence is approximately equivalent to the Rilbert transform of the "Mexican Rat" wavelet. Several identities are derived between these schemes and their validity are theoretically and experimentally shown through the fluctuating wall shear stress and velocity data taken in the turbulent boundary layer. The instantaneous amplitude-frequency representation of WAG at the large scale is also considered. These results indicate that the wall turbulence is significantly regular. It is shown that the near wall singularities involve in the large scale frequency shift key process and that the corresponding instantaneous phase consists of discontinuous line segments.
W pracy wykazano, że metoda WAG (ang. Windo w Average Gradient) przewidziana do wyszukiwania osobliwości w turbulencji jest w przybliżeniu równoważna transformacji Hilberta falki typu "meksykański kapelusz". Na podstawie badań teoretycznych i doświadczalnych dotyczących fluktuacji naprężeń na ściance oraz rozkładu prędkości w warstwie przyściennej wyprowadzono kilka tożsamości pomiędzy schematami WAG i udowodniono ich prawdziwość. Rozważono także chwilową charakterystykę amplitudowo-częstościową WAG dla dużej skali. Rezultaty analizy wskazały na znaczącą regularność turbulencji przyściennej. Pokazano, że osobliwości obserwowane przy brzegu w dużej skali związane są z procesem przesuwania częstości i odpowiadającym mu nieciągłym zmianom chwilowej fazy.

Opis:: Following the study of the arc structure of singularities, initiated by J. Nash, we give criteria for the existence of smooth curves on a surface singularity (S,O) and of smooth branches of its generic hypersurface section. The main applications are the following: the existence of a natural partition of the set of smooth curves on (S,O) into families, a description of each of them by means of chains of infinitely near points and their associated maximal cycle and the existence of smooth curves on any sandwiched surface singularity. A wedge centered at a smooth curve on (S,O) is essentially a one-parameter deformation of the parametrization of the curve. We show that there is no wedge centered at smooth curves of two different families.

Opis:: We consider the limit behaviour of elastic shells when the relative thickness tends to zero. We address the case when the middle surface has principal curvatures of opposite signs and the boundary conditions ensure the geometrical rigidity. The limit problem is hyperbolic, but enjoys peculiarities which imply singularities of unusual intensity. We study these singularities and their propagation for several cases of loading, giving a somewhat complete description of the solution.

Opis:: Methods of noncommutative geometry are applied to deal with singular space-times in general relativity. Such space-times are modeled by noncommutative von Neumann algebras of random operators. Even the strongest singularities turn out to be probabilistically irrelevant. Only when one goes to the usual (commutative) regime, via a suitable transition process, space-time emerges and singularities become significant.

Opis:: Horizontal systems of rays arise in the study of integral curves of Hamiltonian systems $v_H$ on T*X, which are tangent to a given distribution V of hyperplanes on X. We investigate the local properties of systems of rays for general pairs (H,V) as well as for Hamiltonians H such that the corresponding Hamiltonian vector fields $v_H$ are horizontal with respect to V. As an example we explicitly calculate the space of horizontal geodesics and the corresponding systems of rays for the canonical distribution on the Heisenberg group. Local stability of systems of horizontal rays based on the standard singularity theory of Lagrangian submanifolds is also considered.

Opis:: We study the kinematics of the trident snake robot equipped with either active joints and passive wheels or passive joints and active wheels. A control system representation of the kinematics is derived, and control singularities examined. Two motion planning problems are addressed, corresponding to diverse ways of controlling the robot, and solved by means of the endogenous configuration space approach. The constraints imposed by the presence of control singularities are handled using the imbalanced Jacobian algorithm assisted by an auxiliary feedback. Performance of the motion planning algorithms is demonstrated by computer simulations.
