Objective: Self-report questionnaire is informative to assess general hearing disability. The aims of this study were to investigate the reliability of Turkish version of spatial hearing questionnaire (SHQ) and to analyze the validity of the SHQ by the correlation with speech, spatial, and qualities of hearing questionnaire (SSQ) and Turkish matrix sentence test (TMST). Methods: The first part of the study was the psychometric properties of the SHQ with 192 participants (137 with normal hearing, 55 with hearing loss). In the second and main part of the study, we applied two questionnaires (SHQ and SSQ) and TMST to people other than those included in the first part of the study (88 participants with bilateral sensorineural hearing loss). We compared the results of these two questionnaires and the TMST with the speech discrimination (SD) scores. Results: Turkish spatial hearing questionnaire’s internal consistency was 0.94 and 0.97 for individuals with normal hearing and for individuals with hearing loss, respectively. Moderate, positive, statistically significant correlation was observed between the SHQ and SSQ (r = 0:606, p = 0:001 in individuals with hearing loss who do not wear any hearing aid, and r = 0:627, p = 0:001 in hearing aid users), and SHQ and SD (r = 0:561, p = 0:032 in hearing aid users). According to TMST, moderate, positive, statistically significant correlation was found between SSQ and adaptive TMST in individuals with hearing loss who do not wear any hearing aid (r = 0:330, p = 0:033 for S0N90 and r = 0:364, p = 0:018 for S0N270). Conclusions: Turkish SHQ is a valid and reliable questionnaire for assessing hearing functions. SHQ, SSQ, and TMST are clinically beneficial measuring tools in planning the process of hearing rehabilitation and follow-up.

Marketing concentrates mainly on customer acquisition by means of advertisements broadcast in mass media and on billboards. The change to be made in traditional marketing is the shift of interests from satisfying needs to meeting expectations. @Marketing may serve as a tool for that. The aim of this paper is to present a new concept for @marketing, based on innovative forms of product presentation. The paper focuses on the marketing content, without consideration of technical aspects. Research has been carried out in the field of customers’ expectations towards online presentations. In the new conditions, a product presentation should be expanded by innovative forms such as narration, photography and computer graphics. Therefore, there is a need to develop comprehensive projects for planning online presentations as soon as possible. It should be preceded by detailed analyses carried out by IT specialists and marketing experts.

Appropriate treatment of symptomatic carotid artery stenosis can reduce ischemic cerebral strokes' risk and in some cases eliminate neurological symptoms. Endarterectomy is the most common surgical treatment.The aim of the study was to examine the influence of carotid endarterectomy on neurological symptoms and patients' life quality.Material and methods. The material comprised of 102 patients who underwent endarterectomy. All of the patients were given a questionnaire with a list of neurological symptoms (vertigos, headaches, left hemiparesis, right hemiparesis, numbness, acroparaesthesia, single syncope, recurrent syncopies, diplopia, tinnitus, concentration disturbances and aphasia) and with a numerical life quality scale to fill in before and a year after the surgery.Results. Vertigo, headache, single and recurrent syncopies and aphasia as well as cerebral stroke and amaurosis fugax were significantly more rarely observed after endarterectomy. The mean value of patients' life quality evaluated on a 10-point Likert scale after the surgery increased (3.9 vs 6.3).Conclusions. A year after carotid endarterectomy patients' life quality improves which is connected with neurological symptoms' regression and no further symptoms' occurrence due to a preventive role of the surgery.

Attitude to Marriage as a Relationship Formalization Questionnaire was designed to study the dynamically changing forms of modern family. Article presents the most important demographical and social trends concerning marriage in Poland, which justify the need to create standardized tool for studies on attitude of young people towards marriage. Final version of the questionnaire consists of 42 statements, which comprise three scales of attitude toward marriage as: sense of happiness and belonging; relationship formalization and sense of safety; a result of actions resulting from internalized social and religious norms. Questionnaire has high psychometric values and can be used in studies of people aged 16-30. It can be applied in psychological, demographical, sociological or economic research.

The paper presents a study performed in two universities in Poland and Romania. It aimed to identify learners’ needs and difficulties when learning ESP, and also what common needs students in the two universities have, in spite of the fact that they study different branches of ESP–English for Economics and Medical English, respectively. For this purpose, we designed a questionnaire containing 14 open and closed questions. The participants in the study were 100 students at the Koszalin University of Technology in Poland and 100 students from the “Iuliu Hatieganu” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The results of the study showed that, in spite of their different fields of training, there were many similarities between the responses of the students, but also certain differences that derived mostly from the different background and specific language needs of learners. Therefore, we may conclude that university students who study sciences, in particular Business and Medicine, might have certain similar needs when learning Professional English. This article reports on the updating and validation of a questionnaire for vocabulary learning strategies. An English as a second language (ESL) version of the Vocabulary Learning Questionnaire (VLQ), first published in Gu and Johnson (1996), was created based on its latest version. Two response formats were piloted, that is, a paper version with a 7-point Likert scale and an online version with a 100-point slider bar. A series of validation procedures resulted in a 62-item instrument which was then administered online among 682 English language learners at the tertiary level in China. The paper presents evidence of content validity, construct validity, internal consistency reliability, and predictive validity. It also provides suggestions for interpreting and using the questionnaire for both research and instructional purposes.

Article presents development of the design method to measure personal growth in children and youth, as a result of struggling with negative life events. The Personal Growth Questionnaire was developed in two versions – as a self-rating instrument – KOW-27 – D/M, in which child himself/herself assess perceived changes and in version for parents – KOW-27 – R/O, who evaluate changes of their child. The Personal Growth Questionnaire (both versions) consists of three parts: A, B and C. In the first one the examined person chooses from the list of 16 events the most negative situation, which he/she has experienced. In part B – indicates time lapsed since event occurred, and then (part C) using 4-point-rating scale (from 0 – I did not experience this change to 3 – I experienced this change to a great degree) indicates the level of changes perceived as a results of the experienced situation. The reliability of the questionnaire is high (Cronbach’s alpha in version of self-evaluation is 0,94, in version for parents – 0,97).

Surveys are the most widely used research tool in experimental philosophy. In this paper, I analyze two types of criticism of the questionnaire method put forward in the literature. The first type is metaphilosophical. It asserts that the surveys used by experimental philosophers are based on a flawed and unproductive method of cases. The second type is methodological. It argues that currently used questionnaires are unfit to measure philosophically relevant phenomena. I show that these objections can be met by a) improving questionnaires used in research practice and b) expanding the methodological repertoire of experimental philosophy.

Cel: Cel poznawczy sprowadza się do wzbogacenia teorii o wiedzę dotyczącą zasad konstruowania kwestionariusza ankiety i odpowiedzi na pytanie "jakich zasad powinni przestrzegać badacze konstruując kwestionariusz ankiety”. Natomiast celem utylitarnym jest ustalenie niedomagań – wskazanie problemów z jakimi mogą spotkać się badacze podczas budowania kwestionariusza ankiety oraz przedstawienie możliwego wpływu zaniechania stosowania zasad konstrukcji kwestionariusza ankiety na jakość badań. Wprowadzenie: Najważniejszym elementem decydującym o sukcesie badania jest odpowiednie przygotowanie kwestionariusza ankiety. Gdy ankieta jest nudna, męcząca, czy niezrozumiała respondenci są mniej zaangażowani przy jej wypełnianiu. Zdarza się, że aby jak najszybciej skończyć, udzielają przypadkowych odpowiedzi. Zbyt długie kwestionariusze, zła kolejność pytań, brak istotnych pytań, które mogą być potrzebne do pełnego nakreślenia problemu to tylko niektóre z błędów możliwych do popełnienia przy konstruowaniu kwestionariusza ankiety. By części z tych błędów uniknąć należy stosować się do zasad tworzenia kwestionariuszy. Metodologia: W etapie wstępnym dokonana została identyfikacja oraz sprecyzowanie problemu badawczego. Analiza literatury, przykładów ankiet oraz inny zgromadzony materiał badawczy były podstawą doboru metod i technik badawczych. W drugim etapie, który stanowił zasadniczą część realizowanej procedury badawczej, badania prowadzone były z wykorzystaniem niżej wymienionych metod, technik i narzędzi badawczych. Analiza stosowana była głównie w badaniach dokumentów oraz literatury. Objęto nią opracowania naukowo-badawcze i dydaktyczne, przykładowe kwestionariusze ankiet. Syntezą objęte zostały przede wszystkim wyniki badań z obserwacji pośredniej i uczestniczącej. Na wszystkich etapach prac badawczych, których istotą była identyfikacja cech wspólnych, podobieństw oraz różnic poszczególnych zagadnień badawczych, zwłaszcza w zakresie porównania przykładów błędnych kwestionariuszy ankiet ze wzorcowymi stosowano porównanie. Do ujawniania cech i powiązań, możliwości ich łączenia, stosownie do przyjętych kryteriów oraz formułowania na ich podstawie uniwersalnych założeń zastosowano uogólnienie. Metoda wnioskowania w drodze analogii posłużyła do formułowania wniosków i propozycji w przypadkach występowania podobieństw wybranych elementów. Metody indukcji i dedukcji, umożliwiły generowanie nowych twierdzeń i wniosków. Końcowy trzeci etap prac badawczych polegał na zebraniu wyników przeprowadzonych badań w całość, dokonaniu ich logicznego uogólnienia oraz systematyzacji. Wnioski: W artykule zaprezentowano zestaw zasad, których należy przestrzegać przy budowaniu kwestionariusza ankiety ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem błędów, jakie można popełnić przy jego konstrukcji. Zwrócono również uwagę na znaczenie najczęściej popełnianych błędów w ankietach w odniesieniu do jakości i rzetelności całego procesu badawczego.
Purpose: The cognitive goal of this article is to enrich the knowledge of the principles for constructing survey questionnaires and answer the question “what principles should researchers obey while constructing a questionnaire”. The utilitarian goal consists in the indication of errors and problems that researchers may face while creating a questionnaire as well as presentation of the possible effects of failing to obey the principles of questionnaire design in relation to the quality of research. Introduction: Appropriate preparation of a questionnaire is the most important factor which determines the success of the study. Some examples of the mistakes that can be made by a questionnaire designer are: too long questionnaires, wrong order of the questions and the lack of significant questions that may be needed to outline the problem comprehensively. If a survey is boring, tedious or confusing the respondents are less engaged in fulfilling it. Sometimes, in order to complete it faster, they give random answers. To avoid these errors the researchers should follow the principles of designing questionnaires. Methodology: At the initial stage, the research problem was identified and clarified. An analysis of literature, examples of surveys and other research materials formed the basis for the selection of research methods and techniques. In the main part of the executive research procedure, the research was conducted using the following research methods, techniques and tools. The analysis has been applied mainly in the research of documents and literature. It covered scientific, research and didactic works and sample questionnaires. The results from indirect and participatory observations were mainly synthesised. At all stages of the research which aim was to identify common denominators, similarities and differences between research topics, especially in the comparison of erroneous questionnaires and a model ones, a comparison was used. To reveal the characteristics and relationships, the possibility of combining them according to adopted criteria and formulation on that basis universal principles, the authors applied generalization. The method of inference by analogy was used to formulate conclusions and proposals in cases where the similarities between selected items were noticeable. The methods of induction and deduction helped to generate new assertions and conclusions. The final, third stage of the research, consisted in gathering research results together, making of them a logical generalization and systematization. Conclusions: The article presents a set of principles to be followed in the construction of a questionnaire, with a particular focus on errors that can be made during its design. The authors of this article also drew attention to the most common mistakes in questionnaire and their impact on the quality and reliability of the whole research process.

Introduction. Diabetes is associated with a lower quality of life (QoL). Insulin therapy is perceived as an additional factor affecting QoL. The objective of this study, using standardized tools, was to evaluate to what extent insulin treatment has an effect on QoL in diabetes. Materials and method. 60 diabetic patients treated with insulin and 90 with oral drugs, all aged over 30, were included into the study. To assess the QoL of patients, SF-36 v.2 and WHOQOL-BREF questionnaires were used. In addition, demographic data were collected. Results. Insulin treated patients had a significantly lower Mental Component Score in SF-36 v.2 questionnaire. No significant differences between the two groups were found in the components of physical domain of SF-36 v.2 and in four domains of WHOQOL-BREF questionnaires. Insulin therapy was significantly associated with lower educational level. The strongest association with QoL in both questionnaires was found for professional activity and age. Conclusions. The results of this study indicate the need for psychological support for patients with diabetes treated with insulin to improve their mental coping. Diabetic patients should also be advised to continue their professional activity for as long as possible due to its important role in maintaining QoL.

The aim of this paper was to present how mental symptoms are connected to the use of desktop, portable or minicomputers (communicators and hand-held computers), mobile phones, and background information such as age and gender in the Finnish working-age population. The study was carried out as a cross-sectional study by posting a questionnaire to 15 000 working-age (18–65) Finns. The mental symptoms of 6 121 respondents were analysed using the model factors age, gender, the use of computers and the use of mobile phones. In all data, the use of desktop computers was related to mental symptoms. However, the results of our data are not highly reliable, because the nonresponse rate was over 50%. Nevertheless, it may be essential to take into account in the future that working with computers can increase workers’ mental symptoms, and it is important to observe their mental health.

Background. Medical emergencies can be distressing for any dental professional, whether in a dental practice, hospital or other sites. Objectives. To assess the knowledge and awareness of dental practitioners towards medical emergencies and its management in Bhubaneswar. Material and Methods. In this cross-sectional investigation, a self-administered questionnaire which included demographic details and 19 questions regarding knowledge about medical emergencies, was disseminated to a random sample of 183 dentists working in their private dental clinic set up in Bhubaneswar. Chi-square test was used for statistical analysis. Results. Total sample size was 183, out of which 79 (43.17%) were males and 104 (56.83%) were females. The mean age was found out to be 30.7 ± 5.38 years. Practically 96% of the practitioners were not certain enough to deal with the emergency conditions at dental office. Around 67% had not attended any workshop on emergency training. It was amazing to observe that larger part (90%) of the experts didn't possess first aid kit at their dental office. In instances of handling emergency situation at the dental chair no statistical significance (p>0.05) with respect to age and gender was found. Conclusion. This investigation showed that hypothetically dental professionals had better knowledge on medical emergencies yet at the same time they were not equipped efficiently to manage the same at their workplace.

In this paper, the results of a pilot test of a new diagnostic tool are presented. The Growth Resources Questionnaire (its Polish version) was developed on the basis of the Growth Resources Model – a new theoretical concept dedicated to grasping the key psychosocial resources responsible for personal development and flourishing (Pasowicz, 2017, in this volume). The questionnaire consists of three scales: The Positive Autonomy Scale, The Positive Belonging Scale, and The Positive Emotionality Scale. The questionnaire was tested on a sample of 304 subjects and its most important psychometric properties are presented and discussed. Finally, conclusions are drawn and further developments of the tool are outlined.
W artykule zaprezentowane są wyniki pilotażu nowego narzędzia diagnostycznego. Kwestionariusz Zasobów Rozwoju został opracowany na podstawie Modelu Zasobów Rozwoju – nowej koncepcji teoretycznej opisującej kluczowe psychospołeczne zasoby odpowiedzialne za osobisty rozwój oraz rozkwit (Pasowicz, 2017, w tym tomie). Kwestionariusz składa się z trzech skal: Skali Pozytywnej Autonomii Skali Pozytywnej Przynależności oraz Skali Pozytywnej Emocjonalności. Narzędzie zostało przetestowane z udziałem grupy 304 osób i przedstawione są jego najważniejsze właściwości psychometryczne. Zaprezentowano także najważniejsze wnioski płynące z pilotażu oraz sugestie co do kierunków rozwoju narzędzia w przyszłości.
