Gilles Deleuze znany jest jako filozof, który podjął głęboką debatę z psychoanalizą. Debata ta nie da się zredukować wyłącznie do krytyki, bowiem myślenie i pisanie Deleuze’a dokonuje się w przestrzeni niejednorodnej i wielowymiarowej. W Logice sensu freudowski projekt wzbogacony i przekształcony przez Melanie Klein czy Jacques’a Lacana służy do wskazania metafizycznej potencjalności psychoanalitycznych konceptów. Określając psychoanalizę jako „naukę o wydarzeniach”, Deleuze nie traktuje jej doktrynalnie, ale tworzy sieć powiązań pomiędzy rozmaitymi seriami psychoanalitycznych wglądów. W artykule próbuję pokazać, w jaki sposób Deleuze określa wprowadzenie do debaty z psychoanalizą. Kluczową koncepcją dla tego wprowadzenia jest termin „fantazmat”, który nawiązuje także do tradycji filozoficznej.
Gilles Deleuze is well known as a philosopher who had a profound debat with psychoanalysis. This debate cannot be reduced to a critic of psychoanalysis alone because the universe in which Deleuze thinks and writes is heterogeneous and plural. In Logic of Sense, Freud’s project, enriched by Melanie Klein or Jacques Lacan, is to point a metaphysical potentiality in the concepts of psychoanalysis.Psychoanalysis is called a “science of events” to create a net of connections between various series of the psychoanalytical insights. In my paper, I have tried to show how Deleuze determined the introduction to the debate with psychoanalysis. The key concept for his introduction is the notion of “phantasm” that is also rooted in the philosophical tradition.

The article is devoted to The Songs of Bilitis, published at the end of 19th century in France by Pierre Louÿs, who posed as a discoverer and translator of ancient pieces by a beloved Sappho’s apprentice, but in fact authored them. The songs are divided into three parts. In the initial one, Bilitis is a young girl discovering for the first time her corporeality and sexuality. In part two, she resides in the island of Lesbos and is in a fulfilling/happy relationship with Mnasidika. In part three, she is in Cyprus as a temple courtesan. Ramifications of the mentioned literary forgery are a key point here, namely: What occurs in literary (and lovers’) communication if one assumes the authorship by a women or, conversely – if we assume a male authorship.

The article analyses the presentation of the Erlkönig as a cold seducer in transmedia. In this context, not only the famous ballad of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe from 1782 is regarded, but also transformations in arts, illustrations and especially in film are analysed. Within this regard the violent and coldblooded attitude of the Erlkönig towards the child is focused. In the center of the analysis is the recitation and reception of Goethe’s ballad in Andrew Birkin’s Stefan Zweig-adaptation Burning Secret from 1988. The film expands the poetic source by exposing subtexts such as homoerotic, when the baron von Hau-enstein is presented as a cold seducer like the Erlkönig, who attracts the young Edmund. At the same time Birkin adds another interpretation of the ballad, which doesn’t explain the death of the child as something physical, but as an initiation of becoming an adult and the included desires.

The article proposes a critical reading of the father figure in Jonathan Littell’s The Kindly Ones. While taking into account various interpretative contributions to the analysis of thetheme, formerly neglected and subjected to Julia Kristeva’s theory of abject mother, this article explores an alternative, esthetic, culturally oriented approach to the phenomenon. By grouping together father and a man who, in the absence of the former, takes power over the son, the story’s protagonist, the figure of the father can be understood as a key-symbol of a Nazi perpetrator’s identity. However, the article aims to show that this image can stem from the specific cultural context of contemporary representations of Nazism and influence today’s perception of the perpetrators.

W artykule omawiam trylogię autobiograficzną José Mauro de Vasconcelosa: Moje drzewko pomarańczowe, Rozpalmy słońce i Na rozstajach. Utwory te postrzegane mogą być jako powieści fantazmatyczne dla dzieci i młodzieży, gdzie wspomnienia z dzieciństwa zostały przez pisarza obudowane fantazmatami, które kreował jako dziecko. Istotny jest tu sposób prezentowania dzieciństwa z perspektywy dziecka jako podmiotu wyobrażającego, stającego się dzieciństwem bogatym w obrazy o proweniencji baśniowej. Odczytanie znaczenia tych wyobrażeń pozwala podkreślić ich katartyczny charakter. Dziecięce przeżywanie momentów granicznych osadzone jest tutaj celowo w sferze kompensacyjnych projekcji. W swej prozie autobiograficznej Vasconcelos odtwarza zatem nie tylko zdarzenia, które go ukształtowały, ale przede wszystkim sferę dziecięcych fantazmatów jako przykład magicznego myślenia dziecka o sobie i świecie, skłaniającego go do ważnych, czasami jednak tragicznych refleksji.
The article discusses a trilogy of the author’s autobiographical works encompassing My sweet orange tree, Let’s light the sun up and At the crossroads. These works can be seen as phantasmal stories for children and youth, which are based on author’s memories from childhood, significantly embedded in phantasmata that he has created as a child. An important feature is presenting childhood from the perspective of a child who becomes the imagining subject. This image of a childhood thus becomes rich in depictions stemming from fairy tales. Deciphering meanings of these depictions allows to underscore their cathartic character. The child’s experiences of transitional moments is here purposefully embedded in the sphere of compensatory projections. It is in his autobiographical prose that Vasconcelos therefore not only recreates the events that has shaped them, but first and foremost explores the sphere of children’s phantasm as an example of child’s magical thinking about the world and the self. These thoughts direct a child towards significant, though often tragic reflections.

Roman Polanski’s The Fearless Vampire Killers is usually approached in film and cultural studies from a genological perspective: as a game with the convention and genres, a work that has the features of parody and pastiche, yet complies with the poetics of horror. When interpreting and analyzing the picture, it seems worthwhile to employ phantasmatic criticism drawing on the psychoanalytic theory of culture and consider the issue of the abject and transgressive nature of vampiric heroes. This leads to the exegesis of the film from a poststructuralist perspective with a focus on the existential and sexual aspects of vampirism, a topos analyzed by Maria Janion in terms of being a bloodsucker in the face of death, in the face of sex, and in the face of the tragic human condition. The ontic status of the beast seems to be particularly noteworthy if you consider its evolutionary aspect and the role that Polanski’s film played in this regard.

Opis:
This article analyses the cultural phenomenon of Detroit. The author tries to reconstruct the phantasm of the fall of this metropolis based on artistic representations (primarily film productions) of the ‘Motor City’, while reflecting on the crisis of the idea of polis in the times of postmodernity. The analysis opens with RoboCop by Paul Verhoeven which is contrasted with 21st-century film productions, such as Lost River by Ryan Gosling, Only Lovers Left Alive by Jim Jarmusch, It Follows by David Robert Mitchell and Don’t Breathe by Fede Álvarez. Studying RoboCop through the prism of topographical turn and philosophy of the city makes it possible to see this picture as a testimony of how polis was perceived in the late 20th century (technological optimism, crisis of the idea of the centre pointing to its strong embedment in urban imagination). Juxtaposed with Verhoeven’s picture, the features by Gosling, Mitchell, Álvarez and Jarmusch show how urban phantasms have changed in the 21st century, coinciding with the newly developed forms of urban aesthetics (urban exploration, ruin porn, fascination with the post-catastrophic urban form).

Plots created by Patrick Süskind are transparent and uncomplicated; they follow a conventional path, seemingly aloof from formal modernist experiments, and close with distinctive endings; in popular reception, they give a sense of confidence that even the most fantastic worlds, derived from the corners of imagination, may be set into a familiar and closed whole. Perhaps this simplicity makes it easy to be satisfied by their seductive plot and steer clear off tracks leading to the content encrypted within the deep structure. The author of the present paper attempts to interpret the short stories: Maître Mussard's Bequest and The Story of Mr Sommer as a metaphorical and grotesque vision of man's existential death anxiety.

Droga do wartości kultury i sztuki wiedzie przez animację pragnień. Edukacja to w dużej mierze przemieszczanie pragnień i wartości, zarażanie uczniów zachwytami, brakami i errotycznymi pytaniami i dlatego musi umieć konfrontować się z fantazmatycznie podwojoną rzeczywistością. Artykuł zawiera charakterystykę pragnienia, jego źródeł i wariantów (od bieguna traumy do bieguna aksjologicznego). Stanowi także próbę rozwinięcia projektu krytyki fantazmatycznej Marii Janion z wykorzystaniem kategorii dwoistości. Tekst przedstawia również uwagi dotyczące animacji pragnień w edukacji. To oznacza przejście do etyki hermeneutycznej jako tej perspektywy, która łączy dziedzictwo kulturowe, kształcenie (Bildung), jakość życia społecznego i uwodzącą moc wartości. Bez pragnień aksjologicznych edukacja zostaje zredukowana do nierzeczywistej socjalizacji.
The way leading to the value of art and culture is the animation of desires. Education is largely a movement of desires and values, the infecting students with admirations, deficiencies and errotic questions and therefore must be able to confront the reality phantasmatically doubled. The article contains the characteristics of desire, its sources and variants (between the trauma pole and the axiological pole). It is also an attempt to expand Maria Janion’s project of the phantasmatic criticism using a category duality.The text also provides comments on the animation of desires in education. It means the transition to the hermeneutical ethics as a perspective that combines a cultural heritage, an education (Bildung), quality of the social life and a seductive power of values.Without axiological desires the education will be reduced to an unreal socialization.

Bezpośrednią inspiracją do napisania tego tekstu jest książka Tomasza Polaka „System kościelny czyli przewagi pana K”. Autor analizuje szczegółowo działanie „systemu”, twierdząc, iż opanował on kościół od samego początku jego zaistnienia, wchłaniając w siebie pierwotną żywotność wspólnoty. Wniosek do jakiego dochodzi, to stwierdzenie, iż „system” jest niereformowalny. W przedstawianym tu artykule zestawiam zasadniczą myśl T. Polaka, z tym, co pisał przed laty o kościele Tomasz Węcławski. Zaznaczam, iż jest to sama osoba, która na skutek okoliczności życiowych zmieniła nazwisko. Próbuję przeanalizować to, jak dalece zmieniło się myślenie, sposób argumentacji, wreszcie formułowane konkluzje. Słowo klucz do tych rozważań to „fantazmat”. W tym świetle pytanie o Boga „ze mną, we mnie i nade mną” umiera wobec działania „systemu kościelnego”. Fantazmat góruje nad człowiekiem i jego żywą relacją do Boga. „System kościelny czyli przewagi pana K”, to bardzo smutna opowieść o jednostce, mimo, że opowiedziana fachowym i trudnym językiem. Religia, wiara, którą ktoś czyni wyznacznikiem i sensem życia, są czymś, co od początku skazane jest na dryf w kierunku niewzruszonego fantazmatu, czymś co, faktycznie nigdy się nie spełni, chyba, że w wymiarze najbardziej intymnym i prywatnym.
The immediate inspiration for this text is Tomasz Polak's book "System kościelny czyli przewagi pana K" (The Church System or the Advantages of Mr. K). The author analyses in detail how the "system" works, claiming that it has taken over the church from the very beginning of its existence, absorbing the original vitality of the community. The conclusion he reaches is that the "system" is unreformable. In this article I compare T. Polak's basic thought with what Tomasz Węcławski wrote years ago about the church. I emphasize that this is the same person who changed his name due to life circumstances. I try to analyze how far the thinking, the way of argumentation, and finally the formulated conclusions have changed. The key word for these considerations is "phantasm." In this light, the question of God "with me, in me, and over me" dies in the face of the workings of the "church system." The phantasm prevails over man and his living relationship to God. "The Church System or the Advantages of Mr. K", is a very sad story about an individual, even though told in an expert and difficult language. Religion, faith, which someone makes the determinant and meaning of life, is something that from the beginning is doomed to drift towards an unshakeable phantasm, something that, in fact, will never come true, except in the most intimate and private dimension.

Klossowski, who had originally started as a religious seeker of truth in his younger years, will – after his « reversal » – feel himself invested with the role of a « heretic » struggling with the libidinous search for truth. Even as the creator of a perverted metaphysics, he remains a seeker of the revelation of being, now in the role of the divine « adversary » who, thrown back on himself, tends to imitate a religious mystic. The divine is replaced by the whispers of the demon, which Klossowski experiences as « la complicité d'une force "démonique" » in the creation of his artworks. The Diana myth becomes a parable for the act of artistic creation. Sexuality, understood as the primordial ground of creative force that shapes the signe unique, the phantasm, shifts metaphysics to « phantasmaphysics » (Foucault), in which the mystery of the divine is exposed as a delusion (Wahnbild).

The ‘Kike Communism’ cliché holds a special position in Polish antisemitic discourse, where it has different functions. Having been replicated over time, it has been reinforced and become a social platitude, a matrix of popular thinking about history, a descriptive category applied by journalist and academic discourses and a keyword in discussions on Polish-Jewish relations. “Kike Communism” is a cultural topos and a condensation of meanings and interpretations that have been adopted and familiarized so well that it is difficult to see, let alone undermine its roots. Apart from the narration about the harm suffered by Polish patriots at the hands of Jewish Communist torturers the names of those torturers hold an important place in the structure of this topos. It is actually difficult to imagine its content without the symbolic figures such as Jakub Berman, Anatol Fejgin, Roman Romkowski, Stefan Michnik, Helena Wolińska-Brus, Julia Brystiger and Józef Różański. For years they have played the iconic roles assigned to them in the Polish antisemitic discourse. Julia Brystiger, or rather her mythologized image, deserves particular attention in this group. Nicknamed ‘Bloody Luna’ she surely is among the most demonized female Communists in Poland. The objective of the considerations in this paper is to try to demonstrate the construction of the phantasm surrounding her on the basis of a thorough analysis of different texts in Polish culture, ranging from literature to film.
Klisza „żydokomuny” zajmuje szczególne miejsce w polskim dyskursie antysemickim i pełni w nim różne funkcje. W efekcie rozłożonych w czasie praktyk jej nieustannego odtwarzania, a tym samym ugruntowywania, stała się pewną społeczną oczywistością. Osnową potocznego myślenia o przeszłości, kategorią opisową w dyskursie publicystycznym i naukowym, słowem kluczem w dyskusjach o tzw. stosunkach polsko-żydowskich. Będąc jednym z toposów kultury „żydokomuna” kondensuje w sobie znaczenia i interpretacje, które aktualnie są już tak dobrze przyswojone i zadomowione, że doprawdy trudno jest dostrzec, a już tym bardziej naruszyć jej fundamenty. Poza narracją o krzywdach wyrządzonych polskim patriotom przez żydowskich komunistycznych oprawców, to właśnie ich imiona i nazwiska zajmują ważne miejsce w strukturze tego toposu. Trudno zresztą nawet wyobrazić sobie jego treść bez tych wszystkich emblematycznych dla niego postaci: Jakub Berman, Anatol Fejgin, Roman Romkowski, Stefan Michnik, Helena Wolińska-Brus, Julia Brystiger, Józef Różański. To właśnie oni od lat pełnią przypisane im role ikon w polskim dyskursie antysemickim. Spośród tego grona na szczególną uwagę zasługuje Julia Brystiger, a raczej nie tyle ona sama, co jej poddany mitologizacji wizerunek. Znana jako „krwawa Luna” jest bez wątpienia jedną z najbardziej zdemonizowanych komunistek w Polsce. Celem rozważań podjętych w artykule jest próba ukazania konstrukcji spowijającego ją fantazmatu na podstawie uważnej analizy różnych tekstów polskiej kultury: od literatury do filmu.

This essay examines the notion of the fantastic in Debora Vogel’s work. I argue that the fantastic for Vogel is simultaneously a novel artistic form and a form of life, as well as a singular use of language; it is both a “trait” of modernity and thinking of modernity. The fantastic is analyzed as a key term in the author’s understanding of modern design of space and objects through discussions of “Dwelling in its Psychic and Social Function” (1932), the critic’s essay on lived space. I demonstrate that Vogel’s reflections and theorizing of the fantastic are not necessarily aimed at the development of pure theory and concepts but rather at the performance of the fantastic in the author’s own theory-praxis through the lens of Vogel’s essay on poetics, “White Words in Poetry” (1930). The essay discusses various types of the fantastic which finds itself between matter-of-factness and phantasm: the fantastic of ingenuity, the fantastic of asymmetry, the fantastic of color, and the fantastic of simplicity. All of these different types set forth the unconcealment of truth.
Artykuł poświęcony jest pojęciu tego co fantastyczne w twórczości Debory Vogel. Staram się uzasadnić, że fantastyka według Vogel jest jednocześnie nową postacią sztuki, nową formą życia i szczególnym użyciem języka; jest ona zarówno „znakiem” nowoczesności, jak myślenia o niej. Fantastyka stanowi kluczowy termin w eseju Vogel „Mieszkanie w swej funkcji społecznej i psychicznej” (1932), poświęconym nowoczesnemu projektowaniu wnętrz i przedmiotów. Refleksja Debory Vogel dotycząca fantastyki nie jest nakierowana na wykształcenie pełnej teorii i aparatu pojęciowego, lecz raczej na rozgrywanie tego co fantastyczne we własnej autorskiej teorio-praktyce, zgodnie z założeniami eseju „Białe słowa w poezji” (1930). W eseju tym Vogel omawia różne typy fantastyki, sytuujące się pomiędzy fantazją a rzeczowością: fantastykę pomysłowości, fantastykę asymetrii, fantastykę koloru, fantastykę prostoty. We wszystkich tych typach dokonuje się odsłonięcie prawdy.
