Opis:
This paper presents a review of the electromagnetic field and a performance analysis of a radial flux interior permanent magnet (IPM) machine designed to achieve 80 kW and 125 Nm for an electric and hybrid traction vehicle. The motor consists of a 12-slot stator with a three-phase concentrated winding as well as an 8-pole rotor with V-shaped magnets. Selected motor parameters obtained from an IPM prototype were compared with the design requirements. Based on the electromagnetic field analysis, the authors have indicated the parts of the motor that should be redesigned, including the structure of the rotor core, aimed at enhancing the motor’s performance and adjusting segmentation for magnet eddy current loss reduction. In addition, iron and PM eddy current losses were investigated. Moreover, transient analysis of current peak value showed that the current may increase significantly compared to steady-state values. A map of transient peak current load vs. torque load plotted against rotor speed was provided. Based on the numeric and analytical results of physical machine parameters, the authors indicate that collapse load during the motor’s operation may significantly increase the risk of permanent magnet (PM) demagnetization. It was also found that collapse load increases the transient torque, which may reduce the lifetime of windings.

Opis:
This paper presents a finite element investigation into the proximity losses in a high-speed permanent magnet (PM) machine for traction applications. A three-dimensional (3D) finite element analysis (FEA) is employed to evaluate and identify the endwinding contribution into the overall winding power loss generated. The study is focused on the end-winding effects that have not been widely reported in the literature. The calculated results confirm that the end-winding copper loss can significantly affect the eddycurrent loss within copper and it should be taken into account to provide reasonable prediction of total losses. Several structures of the end-winding are analyzed and compared in respect to the loss and AC resistance. The results clearly demonstrate that the size of the end-winding has a significant impact on the power loss. The calculated results are validated experimentally on the high-speed permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) prototype for selected various winding arrangements.

Opis:
The article presents a mathematical model of a permanent magnet motor, powered by a three-phase source of sinusoidal voltage, and a control method. Cooperation between numerical integration algorithms in the differential equation system of the motor and an inverter has been verified. The results of numerical simulations are presented in a graphic form. This article is an extension of the publication [12], in which a model of a drive system was proposed, consisting of: a battery, a supercapacitor and a method of controlling these energy sources during a driving cycle of a vehicle. For vector control, the mathematical model of a synchronous machine in the dq coordinate system is the most common one. The most important feature of this control method is the fact that the iq component of the rotor current vector determines the value of motor torque, and the component id – the value of magnetic flux. In the article, the emphasis is put on how inverters work. Their basic task is to generate such currents iabc or voltages uabc to obtain torque without ripples. It leads to development of different control concepts for achieving this goal, which are related to the modelling of magnetic fluxes in a stator and in an inverter.

The paper presents results of a computer simulation from the applications of a synchronous motor with permanent magnets to drive of a mining longwall shearer pulling. The results were compared with currently used to drive pulling systems the squirrel-cage asynchronous motor supplied by frequency converter. The loads occurring in the systems of mining shearer pulling is characterized by high dynamics and variability. The results of a dynamics parameters, economics and especially thermal propulsion using a permanent magnet synchronous motor used in place of the squirrel-cage asynchronous motor commonly speak for use this type of motors on drives of a mining longwall shearer pulling.

Opis:
Line-start synchronous permanent magnet motor (LSSPMM) is being considered as a replacement or alternative to asynchronous squirrel-cage motor (AM) in constant speed applications. This is due to the better efficiency and power factor than the asynchronous motor. There are various rotor topologies of LSSPMM concerning the magnets placement and their dimensions. The paper analyses six different rotor topologies in terms of achieving the best efficiency and power factor for the same output power of the motor with minimal consumption of permanent magnet material. All other motor design parameters remain unchanged, i.e. all motor topologies are analysed for the same stator laminations and the same motor windings. The numerical finite element method (FEM) models and dynamic models for obtaining transient characteristics of speed, torque and current verify the proposed design of various motor models. The results from all motor models are compared and adequate conclusions are derived regarding the optimal rotor topology in terms of obtaining the best efficiency and power factor with minimal consumption of permanent magnet material, for the same output power of the motor.

This paper investigates the influence of the power converter on the performance of Surface Mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor drives, which employ High Frequency voltage injection to achieve low and zero speed control. Experimental results demonstrate the remarkable performance of the sensor less speed and position control employing the Matrix Converter and the contributions of the Space Modulation Profiling technique. The Matrix Converter has almost zero dead time, which means that behaves almost like an ideal power converter and achieves better results than the conventional Voltage Source Inverter. A comparison of the sensor less technique proposed using both converters is made.

Opis:
The main objective of the paper is to show that the commonly used model of permanent magnet synchronous motor with higher order harmonics of the magnetic flux angular distribution in dq-coordinates is appropriate for control only under some strict conditions. In general, mathematical models of the motor in the natural and dq-coordinates are not always equivalent. The equivalence is meant in the sense that two models are equivalent if the angular velocities caused by identical waveforms of input voltages and initial conditions, are equal. In this paper we derive equivalence conditions and present simulation results illustrating the equivalence problem.
W artykule wyprowadzono warunki równoważności i przedstawiono wyniki badań symulacyjnych ilustrujące problem równoważności tych modeli.

This paper presents a comparison of an AC radial flux interior permanent magnet (IPM) motor with the distributed winding (DW) and concentrated winding (CW). From time to time, manufacturers of electric vehicles change the design of electric motors, such changes may include changing the DW into CW and vice versa. A change to the winding in a radial permanent magnet synchronous motor may lead to a change in motor parameters during motor operation and /or change in the distribution of the magnetic field and thermal circuit of the electrical machine. The electromagnetic analysis, efficiency map, mechanical stress, and thermal analysis of the machine with the DW and CW are presented in this paper. This article describes the advantages and disadvantages of selected stator winding designs and helps understand manufacturers’ designers how the DW and CW play a key role in achieving the designed motor’s operational parameters such as continuous performance. Analyzing the performance of both machines will help identify their advantages and disadvantages with regard to thermal phenomena, magnetic field and operational parameters of the presented IPM prototypes. Both prototypes are based on commonly used topologies such as 12/8 (slot/pole) and 30/8 (slot/pole) IPM motors consisting of magnets arranged in a V-shape. The AC IPM motor was designed for an 80 kW propulsion system to achieve 170 N·m at a base speed of 4 500 rpm. Modern CAD tools are utilized throughout the numerical computations based on 2-D finite element methods. Selected test data are used to verify and validate the accuracy of finite element models.

The article presents the most important causes of energy losses in magnetic circuits of electrical machines and describes a new design of a synchronized induction motor. The basic operational parameters of two structures: induction machine with squirrel cage (IM) and newly designed machine with a rotor with permanent magnets and a copper squirrel cage (induction machine synchronized with self-starting (LSPMSM) have been identified and compared. Performance characteristics were determined for work in steady states. In both cases the stator, type Sg 100L-4B of 3 kW induction motor was used. It has been shown that the PSPMSM supplied from the public mains grid shows the efficiency approx. 5% higher than the conventional motor. The influence of the change in the supply voltage frequency on the work of both structures was tested, i.e. on the measured efficiency, power factor and the electricity from electrical grid. Studies have shown that the LSPMSM can be a replacement for an induction motor. It has been shown that the torque pulsations occurring in the new structure (cogging torque) do not increase the environmental risks.

In this paper is presented the overview of Continuous Miners available on the market. Numbers describe machines from 1 to 41 and parameters obtained from manufacturers catalogues are presented on diagrams. The statistical analysis of some of parameters are carried out by linear approximation to show factors determining, for example, the total power of installed engines to the power of the cutting head drive, the total power of installed engines to the total mass, cutting height to the cutter diameter and cutting height to the cutting width, etc. Thin layers of coal less than 1.2 m thick and remnants of seams that require work on a system of boards and columns constitute an increasing share of coal deposits. Geometric restrictions, in this case, are closely correlated with the construction form of the machine and they must have high performance with limited geometric dimensions. This type is called “Continuous Miner”, and is closely correlated with those restrictions. The paper reviews the technical solutions used in these machines, which are currently used around the world. Particular attention is paid to the new concept of the cutting drum drive system, in which permanent magnet motors are proposed. Placing them in a cutting drum improves the efficiency of the mining process and the possibility of modular configuration depending on the required working conditions.
