Opis:
The focus on trans*1 individuals as researcher subjects often problematizes trans* identity, limiting the possibility for trans* individuals to create and co-create bodies of knowledge. Drawing on three years of participatory research in the animal production industry, I discuss the implications of my subjectivity as a trans* man in this particular setting and in my research more broadly. Beyond being a self-reflexive exercise, this study seeks to make a number of theoretical and empirical contributions. First, feminist literature discussing one’s subjectivity has largely focused on the dialectical existence between men and women, with little room for trans* or gender diverse perspectives. Further, studies that have acknowledged trans* identity have done so in relation to trans* persons as research subjects, with no recognition of their positionality or the possibility of the trans* researcher. This study seeks to change these paradigms by extending current feminist research frameworks on subjectivity to include greater gender diversity.

During the late twentieth century, the question of gender equality became an important issue on the global agenda. Despite the fact that there has been a drastic substantial progress in favor of gender equality, there are still a lot of issues connected with the subject of gender in the world. The feminist foreign policy is not an established political concept. Sweden was the first country to pursue a feminist foreign policy in 2014. This approach was part of the world’s first ‘feminist government’. The goal is to achieve equality in all spheres of society, as well as to guarantee equal conditions for women and men in society and in their personal lives. I consider this topic of research to be a great opportunity to explore how the feminist foreign policy works and how it influences the international relations.

This article focuses on the gender perspective in the analyses of social policy and social work debates. The main goal is to deliberate the key arguments that are used by the representatives of feminist critics of social policy in Western Countries in their discussions about the sources of the crises of contemporary welfare states. It takes up issues connected with gender and its influence on (re)building social roles, femininity/masculinity, social work, and social care. The emphasis is on how these interpretations reflect differences in interpretations and understandings of female social workers and users of both sexes, (women and men), regarding topics such as care and power, social policy and ideology, male and female communication styles and anti/oppressive identities and practices.

This article is devoted to the interpretation of Margaret Atwood’s novel The Handmaid’s Tale. It depicts the changes that have taken place in the United States of America, where the political system has been transformed following a coup d’état and the seizure of power by religious fundamentalists. The writer devotes a great deal of space in the work to the situation of women, so the article uses the perspective of feminist criticism. This made it possible to describe the barbaric laws that particularly affected women. This optic opened up different levels of interpretation, such as the limitations of being a woman. Margaret Atwood’s take on the novel, however, not only undertakes a critique of the regime of power, but also points to the weaknesses of liberal democracy. Accordingly, the article devotes space to the issue of women’s economic oppression, an environmental issue. Furthermore, the diversity of women in terms of their position in the social hierarchy, age, sexuality or reproductive capacity is captured. It seems, therefore, that the writer takes an example from her female readers, which has been seen as a turn towards intersectionality.

The article compares two groups of ‘women’s’ drama, one written during the inter-war period, the other after the changes of 1989. On the one hand, the analysis presents the image of family emerging in these two groups of plays from a feminist perspective. On the other hand, the article raises the question of their form, since it so strongly influences the reception of these works. A comparison of plays written after 1989 with those created dur-ing the inter¬ war period demonstrates the historical continuity of family issues that have not been solved till present day. Concurrently, in terms of form, it shows that combining tradi-tional elements with innovative ones leads to the greatest dramatic effectiveness.

Opis:
The dominant hierarchy upon which the order of existence is predetermined has placed the man at the centre of creation; which is also substantiated by cultural norms that prioritized generic divides. The principles of feminism have been created to alter patriarchal hegemony in order to reconstruct the distorted female self of an egalitarian society. However, in an attempt to reconstruct these misconceptions upheld by patriarchy, most feminist texts and criticisms have denied the woman the agency of freewill and independent choices, except the continuous emphasis on feminist objectification that patriarchy seem to propagate. It is against this backdrop, that this paper interrogates the subjugation of the woman by her fellow woman and to outline a model of feminist liberation. This is consequent upon the fact that even at the disruption of patriarchy, some feminist scholars have failed to account for the role of women in using men as puns in the subjugation of their fellow women in the African novel. Consequently, this paper replicates Chinweizu’s Masculinist Dissection of Matriarchy and uses feminist-deconstruction to interrogate Ama Ata Aidoo’s Changes and Nawal El Saadawi’s A Woman at point Zero. To this effect, it submits that women are stakeholders in the structure of matriarchy and the substructure of patriarchy and men are mere puns in the structure of matriarchal subjugation of their fellow woman. The concept of pun(s) which is play on word is used in its expounded form on how women manipulate men physically and psychologically for their economic and political gains.

Matching the ever-increasing numbers of female participants in the commercial venues of department stores and cinemas in the 1920s, modernist women writers enjoyed a new visibility in the intellectual world of cinema journalism. Yet cinema modernism, like literary modernism, was veined by masculinity in the 1920s. The paper argues that modernist women writers, including Colette, H.D., Dorothy Richardson, and Virginia Woolf, created a feminist standpoint. By replacing the prescriptive male gaze with a feminist aesthetics: identifying with stars and women viewers and by describing audiences as socially constituted and gendered.

The philosophers agree that philosophy begins in wonder. How wonder is understood, however, is not at all clear and has implications for contemporary work in feminist phenomenology. Luce Irigaray, for example, has insisted on wonder as the passion that will renew relationships between women and men, provide a foundation for democracy, and launch a new era in history. She calls on women to enact practices of wonder in relation to men. In what follows I briefly review the most significant claims about wonder in the history of philosophy generally, and as related to the phenomenological practice of the epoché particularly. I consider Irigaray’s claims about wonder as they arise out of this tradition, and try to spell out both what is promised to women and what is asked of them through affirmations of wonder. I suggest that this prescriptive notion is at the heart of a new conservatism in “feminist” thought that turns on nostalgia for age-old beliefs about women’s proper mode of relation toward men and their accomplishments, and is deeply homophobic. I urge readers to adopt a more critical attitude toward wonder as related to sexual difference by historicizing the inquiry in keeping with the phenomenological practice of Simone de Beauvoir. Drawing on Kant, Beauvoir, and contemporary work by Sara Ahmed, I suggest that there is a politics of wonder at work here which feminists have every reason to question. Reflecting on the politics of wonder also discloses some key features of critical feminist phenomenological practice.

The article is devoted to the problem of feminism and gender in Russia and their influence on the development of contemporary women’s prose. The article deals with the most important features of Russian feminism taking into account the differences in relation to the movement in Western Europe. The author pays special attention to the influence of orthodox religion on the development of feminism in Russia as well as to the specific view of the role of woman and man in the society resulting from Russian culture. Religious and cultural impact over the specific character of Russian feminism is connected with the fact that in Russia a greater emphasis is placed on gender and not on sex. Therefore, the author believes that feminism in Russia has stimulated creativity of women in different fields of art and especially in literature.

The article aims to present the particularities of the English translation of Lise Gauvin’s novel Lettres d’une autre by a Canadian feminist translator, Suzanne de LotbinièreHarwood. The purpose of the translation was to make the Quebec culture closer to the English speaking Canadians. Moreover, de Lotbinière-Harwood intended to emphasize feminist issues. Indubitably, such a project goes beyond the stereotypical function of translation as the translator herself is clearly visible in the text. The specificity of the de Lotbinière-Harwood’s translation encourages the reflection on the problematic border between a translation sensu stricto and a translation being at the same time some kind of explanation. The article seeks to answer to the following questions: is a literary translator “only” a transmitter of meanings invented by the author or a guide in the unknown world? Is he also a full-fledged author? In addition, the article considers how far a translator is allowed to be visible in a text, in particular, if he aims to explain culture.

Referring to the discussion on the critical potential of dystopias in fiction, the article examines twentieth century feminist plays by Ann Jellicoe, Bryony Lavery and Germaine Greer for their presentation and critical deconstruction of gender roles, social structures and power relations. In the plays discussed in the article the critical and transgressive strategies used by the playwrights question the possibility of separating utopias and dystopias, showing how they are linked to and dependent on each other. Refusing to provide neat endings and definitions, the plays open up to contradictory readings by mixing the elements of dystopia and utopia and inviting critical and self-reflexive interpretations directing the critique of the past and the future towards the present.

In order to do that, the author shows how crucial gender is in ethnomusicological theories, as well as in social hierarchy theories. All that to see gender as a part of the person’s identity, and also as a part of the whole experience of one’s life in the society. By closely analyzing circumstances that influence the life of a musician or any other individual we can understand their actions, their place in the musical culture, the reasons their work was seen the way it was. And those circumstances include gender experience. Gender, as one of many elements of social hierarchy, is to be seen as a factor that cannot be overlooked or ignored.

The aim of the study is to consider feminist retellings of myths and legends. As an example, Margaret Atwood’s book The Penelopiad is analyzed. The interpretation is situated in a broader context of intertextual practices characteristic of the feminist vision of literature. I present the ideas which Atwood shares with authors engaged in women’s movement. Among these there is Atwood’s understanding of intertextuality (noticeable especially in The Penelopiad). Bibliographical basis of the study comprises books which are fundamental to feminist and gender criticism (e.g. Poetics of Gender, ed. by N. Miller, New York 1986; S. M. Gilbert, S. Gubar The Madwoman in the Attic. The Woman Writer and the Nineteenth- Century Literary Imagination, New Haven and London 1984). What is more, the study refers to the books which allow considering the notion of intertextuality (G. Allen, Intertextuality, London and New York 2010, J. Clayton. E. Rothstein (eds.), Influence and Intertextuality in Literary History, Wisconsin 1991) and connecting the interpretation with the problems crucial to contemporary literary studies (L. Hutcheon L.
