Opis:
The author probes the factors that influence the structure of service markets and describes the way in which they influence the operations of these markets. The paper presents selected factors of key importance to the structure of service markets. These include the nonmaterial nature and diversification of services, information asymmetry, natural and regulatory barriers to entry and the level of concentration. The last part of the article shows the influence of all these factors on the structure of selected service markets. The author argues that service markets have certain specific features that account for the existence of individual market models. Whether a specific segment of the service sector takes the form of an oligopoly, monopoly or perfect competition is determined by its specific features, including the differentiation of services, the nature of entry barriers, the existence of scale benefits and the level of concentration.

Opis:
The paper deals with the design of optimized input shapers for non-vibrational control of flexible mechatronic systems. The described method is based on a combination of advantages from two approaches – precomputed control curves and on-line shapers. The strategy has two steps. Primarily, an optimized precomputed curve is found as a solution to the point-to-point control problem with respect to any requested optimization goals. Then it is transformed into an on-line shaper with the re-entry property. The resulting shaper transforms any arbitrary input signal to a non-vibrational one. In contrast to other techniques, the shaper length is not determined from the system natural frequency. The shaper can be easily modified with respect to position, velocity, acceleration or jerk control. The theoretical results are verified by experiments using a laboratory crane.

The exponents of the category of definiteness / indefiniteness and a certain type of expressive expressions in Bulgarian and PolishThe paper focuses on the functions of the pronoun exponents of the semantic category of definiteness / indefiniteness in Bulgarian examples of the following type: Свършихме я. Тънко я преда. Свърши се вашата, etc. Their reference to sentences such as Свършихме я тази работа. allows interpreting the function of the phrase as thematic. This type of sentences was confronted with examples such as Тя му я изтърси една… И ти ми ги говориш едни… The features of intonation and the semantic features of the double object phrase indicate its rhematic nature. Specific formal traits of such sentences, including the usage of the exponents of the category of definiteness / indefiniteness, are related with their expressive markedness.

Opis:
A bulbous bow is a typical ship structure. Due to the influence of the bulbous bow, complex flow separation and gas capture phenomena may appear during the water entry of ship-like sections. In this paper, experimental and numerical studies on the water entry of a ship-like section with an obvious bulbous bow are carried out. Two thin plates are installed at both ends of the test model to ensure that the flow field during the impact process is approximately twodimensional. The free-fall drop test is carried out in the test rig equipped with guide rails. By changing drop heights, impact pressure on the model surface with different initial impact velocities is measured. A numerical model for simulating the water entry of the ship-like section is established by using the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method, based on the Navier-Stokes equations. Reasonable time steps and mesh size are determined by convergence analysis. Four different flow models are used in the numerical analysis. It is found that the K-Epsilon turbulence model can present the most reasonable numerical prediction by comparing numerical results with the experimental data. Furthermore, the influence of the bulbous bow on the impact loads is numerically studied by using the validated numerical model. It suggests that the bulbous bow has little effect on the impact force acting on the bow-flared area but, in the position near the bulbous bow, the pressure will be affected by the second slamming and the air cushion.

Opis:
The effects of various concentrations of thapsigargin, a specific inhibitor of Ca2+-ATPase in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membrane, on calcium homeostasis in lymphoidal T cells (Jurkat) were investigated. Preincubation of these cells suspended in nominally calcium-free medium with 0.1 μM thapsigargin resulted in a complete release of Ca2+ from intracellular calcium stores. When the medium was supplemented with 3 mM CaCl2 the cells maintained constantly elevated level of cytosolic Ca2+. However, thapsigargin applied at lower concentration produced only a partial depletion of the stores. For example, in the cells pretreated with 1 nM thapsigargin and suspended in calcium-free medium approximately 75% of the calcium content was released from the intracellular stores. The addition of 3 mM CaCl2 to such cell suspension led to a transient increase in cytosolic calcium concentration, followed by a return to a lower steady-state. This phenomenon, related to the refilling of the ER by Ca2+, allowed to estimate the half-time for the process of cell recovery after activation of store-operated calcium channels. By this approach we have found that carbonyl cyanide m-chlorophenylhydrazone, which has been documented to inhibit calcium entry into Jurkat cells, does not influence the stability of the intracellular signal involved in the activation of store-operated calcium channels.

After the Polish accession to the European Union in 2004, language services have considerably grown in importance. Intensive contacts with foreign companies and institutions coupled with information technology developments have increased the role of English as a linguistic medium of international cooperation. The overall aim of this paper is to examine the Polish business environment for Language Service Providers (LSPs) offering specialized English courses and translation services (EN-PL and PL-EN). LSPs should be distinguished from regular language schools and translation agencies whose service offering concentrates predominantly on General English courses and general translation. LSPs, in turn, operate to provide tailored English courses for specialists within different fields (e.g. business, law, medicine, engineering, etc.) and the translation of specialized texts/documents (e.g. financial, legal, medical, technical, etc.). The Polish business reality will be viewed from the micro perspective by means of the Porter’s five forces model, which will help to assess the industry’s attractiveness and market potential for LSPs.

The aim of this article is to outline school psychologist’s interventions, which might be useful while supporting a chronically, somatically ill child in their re-entry to school, aiming at broadening their peers’ knowledge about the chronic disease and positively changing their attitudes towards the ill child. In the first part, the importance of peer relationships in childhood and adolescence, the relation of their quality to school absences and the positive role of school attendance in the process of adapta-tion to illness and recovery, are presented. Then, the arguments for school psychologist to become an agent of child’s positive school re-entry are provided. A framework of tasks to be performed by psy-chologist in the school setting is outlined. The second part focuses on the interventions which might be useful to meet expectations the environment has towards school psychologist in case of an ill child’s return to school. Among them, negative messages’ delivery, educational workshops design and deli-very, promoting self-advocacy of the child, preventing violence and supporting child’s siblings have been chosen as important areas of actions related to the child’s peers. A selection of suggestions how to deal with these diverse fields of activity has been outlined, basing on re-entry models, as well as on useful directions and interventions to prevent bullying and support children in developing psychoso-cial competences, which are discussed in research reports, metaanalyses and professional literature.

Opis:
The article deals with one of the problematic issues found in the Matthean entry narrative (21:1-11), namely identifying the appropriate referent for the second pronoun αὐτῶν in Mt 21:7. First, a few textual emendations to the original Greek text are discussed, since the solution to the above problem has sometimes been sought in the discovery of a truly original text, free of this interpretative difficulty. Second, the grammatical and rhetorical explanations of the issue are elucidated. Third, the article presents and evaluates arguments for identifying the proper referent of αὐτῶν, whether in the vestments or in the two animals. In the author’s opinion, the most convincing solution to the problem lies in identifying the referent of the ambiguous pronoun as the two animals.

The aim of this paper is to present regulations on defects in a declaration of intent to enter into marriage and compare them with regulations set out in Articles 82-88 PCC with respect to the scope of the individual defects in a declaration of intent and the ways in which the resulting inconsistencies can be justified. The paper uses a method of research based on legal doctrine, involving an analysis of legal provisions, especially those set out in the Polish Family and Guardianship Code, the Polish Civil Code, case law and the literature. Methods based on comparative law and the history of law are used as a secondary measure. The research has shown that a limitation of the catalogue of defects in a declaration of intent as set out in Article 15¹ PFGC and the definition of the scope of the individual defects is justified by the nature of marriage as a lasting relationship. The inconsistencies between these regulations are therefore a deliberate step to implement the principle of permanence of marriage. However, the opinion expressed in this paper is that some of the defects in a declaration of intent to enter into marriage are regulated too narrowly, which is why the debate over amendments to Article 15¹ § 1 PFGC is well worth continuing. Especially relevant here is the de lege ferenda postulate to extend the scope of a defect in a declaration of intent set out in Article 15¹ § 1(1) PFGC

The core of the analysis constitutes an online obituary as a literary genre. The material subject to analysis will be presented in two articles. This article is the first part. It is an attempt to study Russian condolence entries addressed to Poles after the state president’s plane crash on 10th April 2010. The material has been excerpted from contemporary Russian electronic media. There have been specified composition and genre features of obituaries and their basic functions. There have also been presented the formal structure and obligatory elements of online condolences such as opening formulas or identification of addressees. Further composition elements of the genre in question will be discussed in the following article.

Electronic Dictionary as a Tool for Integration of Additional Learning ContentThis article discusses electronic dictionary as an element of the „Bulgarian cultural and historical heritage under the protection of UNESCO” database developed in IMI (BAS), that will be used to integrate additional learning content. The electronic dictionary is described as an easily accessible book of reference, offering information to the shape, meaning, usage and the origin of words in connection to the cultural-historical heritage sites in Bulgaria, protected by UNESCO. The dictionary targets 9–11 year old students from Bulgarian schools, who study the subjects “Man and Society” in 4th grade and “History and Civilization” in 5th grade.

Artykuł prezentuje wybrane zagadnienia problematyki konkurencyjności łańcuchów dostaw. Stanowi próbę ujęcia teoretycznych podstaw badań nad konkurencyjnością łańcuchów dostaw. W związku z tym, że zagadnienia konkurencyjności łańcuchów dostaw można odnosić do poszczególnych poziomów analizy ekonomicznej, a w ich ramach określonych nurtów czy szkół badań ekonomicznych, zasadne jest przeprowadzenie swego rodzaju systematyki w tym względzie, co stanowi cel artykułu. Jego autor przyjmuje hipotezę, że założenia mezoekonomii w sposób najbliższy korespondują z teorią łańcuchów dostaw. W związku z tym rozważania koncentrują się na dwóch subdyscyplinach mezoekonomii: organizacji przemysłowej i ekonomii przemysłowej oraz na wybranych nurtach i teoriach w ramach badanych subdyscyplin.
This article presents selected aspects of competing of the supply chains in the light of the theory of industry organization (mezoeconomics). The article advances the thesis that the ideas embedded in the theory of industry organisation, when referred to the area of supply chain management. When we relate logistic strategies to widely understood logistic competitiveness, i.e. seeing logistics through the competitiveness of companies, we can easily notice the crucial role of logistics in the methodological approach applied to the new industrial economics (theory of industry organisation), especially in the context of the global supply chains. The article stresses the influence of logistics on all, most often named in literature, sources of barriers to entry – economies of scale, product differentiation, capital needs, access to distribution channels, cost disadvantage, or state policy. This paper is definitely of a theoretical character. It does not attempt to solve practical problems of a given company in a given situation, but it undertakes research at a higher level of generalisation. The author, however, believes that, by principle, in economics the rightness of a theory is ultimately verified by practice. Thus, the article includes some examples of practical solutions and implementation of logistic strategies and concepts while solving contemporary dilemmas of the supply chain management.

The article deals with Poland’s transition to a market economy in the 1990s and compares the changes that took place in the Polish economy at the time with developments in mature economies. Using three indexes-the enterprise turnover rate, job flow rates, and productivity growth decomposition-the authors attempt to show that transition processes in Poland have had a positive effect on the country’s enterprise sector, though there is still a lot of work to be done. These three indexes help understand the structural changes that occurred during the transition from central planning to an open market economy in Poland. Using a unique set of data from Polish companies, the authors calculated several measures of resource reallocation, along with enterprise entry and exit rates, and job flow rates. Moreover, they computed the labor productivity growth rate. The high rates of resource reallocation suggest that the Schumpeterian processes of creative destruction have played a major role in productivity enhancement. Surprisingly, labor productivity decomposition shows that the “within effect” influenced productivity the most, while the net entry effect was significant and positive. The poor availability of data explains why the authors were unable to calculate more sophisticated measures of productivity growth. The quality of the data may be also responsible for the substantial sensitivity of the results to the productivity decomposition method.
