Opis:
Current codes of biological nomenclature define taxon names using types and ranks: the type determines the minimal membership of a named taxon, and the rank is supposed to determine its limits. Homo is “the taxon including the type species Homo sapiens that is assigned to the rank of genus”. However, there is no “genus concept” (analogous to a species concept), and thus no way of empirically determining the limits of a particular genus, even in the context of a single agreed phylogeny. The same problems also apply to higher taxa at all other ranks under current codes, leading to great taxonomic instability. All proposed objective criteria for determining membership of taxa at a particular rank (e.g., geological age, genetic divergence) are shown to be problematic. In contrast, the clades named by phylogenetic definitions are objective and stable. Node−based and branchbased definitions are most precise; however, apomorphybased definitions can be ambiguous due to difficulty in defining alternative character states, and optimisation uncertainty. A major benefit of ranks (information about relative nesting of taxa) can be achieved even more efficiently using standardised but rankless suffixes already widely used in phylogenetic taxonomy. Finally, in situations where the phylogeny is poorly known, phylogenetic nomenclature appears to be superior to the Linnean system. Phylogenetic nomenclature does not force one to officially name poorly corroborated groupings, whereas Linnean codes compel users to erect and name genera even when relevant supraspecific relationships are poorly known.

Opis:
In the present work, amine based extractant and its mixture with cationic and solvating extractants were tested for the extraction of HCl from chloride solution containing Al(III). The chloride feed solution resulted from the leaching of spent HDS (hydro-desulfurization) catalysts. For this purpose, amine extractants, such as TOA (trioctyl amine), Alamine 336 (a mixture of tri-octyl/decyl amine), Alamine 308 (tri-isooctyl amine), and TEHA (tri 2-ethylhexyl amine) were used and the extraction and stripping behavior of HCl was compared. The extracted HCl was easily stripped from loaded TEHA phase, when compared with the other tested tertiary amine system. Solvent extraction reaction of HCl by TEHA was determined from the extraction data. Unlike TOA and Alamine 336, adding cationic extractant to TEHA had negligible effect on the extraction and stripping of HCl. In our experimental ranges, no Al was extracted by amines and pure HCl was recovered. MaCabe-Thiele diagrams for the extraction and stripping of HCl by TEHA were constructed.

The tin metal could be retractable from wasted tin scrap, sludge, and wasted electroplated solution hydrometallurgical treatment, and purification process. In order to be used as resource of electronic devices, the retracted crude metal should be purified to the extent of higher than 99.9%. In this study, tin electro-refining process was performed to purify the casted tin crude metal at various experimental conditions: at the current density of 3, 5A/dm2, and in various electrolytes such as hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid and methansulfonic acid. Additional experiment was conducted using Rotating Disk Electrode (RDE) in order to investigate the rate determining step of tin electro-refining process. The current efficiency, 65.6%, was achievable at the condition of current density, 5A/dm2, and in the electrolyte of Hydrochloric acid. During tin electro-refining process, impurity dissolved from tin crude metal into the electrolyte was analyzed using Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometer (ICP-OES), and the result showed the concentration of impurity metal gradually increased. Quantitative analysis on casted tin crude metal showed that it consists of tin with 93.9 wt.% and several impurity metals of Ag, Bi, Pb, Cu, and etc. After tin electro-refining process, the purity of tin increased up to 99.985 wt.%.

We investigated the effect of pre-sintering process on the penetration behavior of Dy in a NdFeB sintered magnet which was grain boundary diffusion treated with Cu/Al mixed Dy source. The pre-sintering of a magnet was performed at 900°C in vacuum and then the pre-sintered body was dipped in the solutions of DyH2, DyH2 + Cu, and DyH2 + Al, respectively. The dipped pre-sintered body were then fully sintered 4 hours at 1060°C followed by a subsequent annealing. The pre-sintering apparently improved the diffusivity of Dy atoms. The penetration of Dy into the magnet extended almost to 2,000 μm from the surface, about four times deeper than that of the normally sintered and diffusion treated one, when the DyH2 + Al solution was used as a Dy source. However, the resulting increase of coercivity was about 4 kOe, somewhat lower than that of the normally treated one, mostly due to excessive oxide formation that hindered to make a continuous Nd-rich grain boundary phase and a core-shell type structure.

Opis:
In many cases, a X̅ control chart based on a performance variable is used in industrial fields. Typically, the control chart monitors the measurements of a performance variable itself. However, if the performance variable is too costly or impossible to measure, and a less expensive surrogate variable is available, the process may be more efficiently controlled using surrogate variables. In this paper, we present a model for the economic statistical design of a VSI (Variable Sampling Interval) X̅ control chart using a surrogate variable that is linearly correlated with the performance variable. We derive the total average profit model from an economic viewpoint and apply the model to a Very High Temperature Reactor (VHTR) nuclear fuel measurement system and derive the optimal result using genetic algorithms. Compared with the control chart based on a performance variable, the proposed model gives a larger expected net income per unit of time in the long-run if the correlation between the performance variable and the surrogate variable is relatively high. The proposed model was confined to the sample mean control chart under the assumption that a single assignable cause occurs according to the Poisson process. However, the model may also be extended to other types of control charts using a single or multiple assignable cause assumptions such as VSS (Variable Sample Size) X̅ control chart, EWMA, CUSUM charts and so on.

This paper describes the CO₂ capture performance of cement blended paste incorporating gamma-dicalcium silicate (gamma-C₂S) made with industrial by-products, by taking into consideration of effect of CaCO₃, fly ash replacement ratio under the sintering process. X-ray diffraction method was conducted in order to quantitatively investigate the gamma-C₂S content. CO₂ capture performance of mortar sample incorporating gamma-C₂S was investigated by means of compressive strength test using accelerated carbonation chamber. The experimental results revealed that the kind of CaCO₃ would affect the affect the formation of gamma-C₂S after the sintering with respect to the XRD-Rietveld analysis. Moreover, it is confirmed that compressive strength of mortar sample incorporating gamma-C₂S has the same tendency at curing age of 3, 7 and 28days. Blended mortar sample made with 10 wt.% replacement ratio of gamma-C₂S had high compressive strength value compared to normal mortar sample, therefore, incorporating gamma-C₂S had a positive effect on the compressive strength after accelerated carbonation. Finally, the waste foundry sand powder may be alternative to produce gamma-C₂S.

This study determined flexion and extension angles of resting fingers and wrist in terms of forearm posture (neutral, pronation and supination) and shoulder flexion (0°, 45°, 90° and 135°). The participants participated in 12 angle measurements for 16 finger joints and wrist. The finger joints flexed more in supination than in neutral posture and pronation and the thumb flexed more than the other fingers because of the gravity and skin tension. This phenomenon became more apparent as the shoulder flexed. The carpometacarpal joint had the largest flexion angle in the thumb joints, whereas the proximal interphalangeal joints had the largest flexion angles in the other finger joints. The resting posture of the wrist extended of ~16° in any forearm postures when the shoulder was at 0°. The results of this study could be useful for rehabilitation tool and product designs.

Opis:
A single-server queueing system with an infinite buffer is considered. The service of a customer is possible only in the presence of at least one unit of energy, and during the service the number of available units decreases by one. New units of energy arrive in the system at random instants of time if the finite buffer for maintenance of energy is not full. Customers are impatient and leave the system without service after a random amount of waiting time. Such a queueing system describes, e.g., the operation of a sensor node which harvests energy necessary for information transmission from the environment. Aiming to minimize the loss of customers due to their impatience (and maximize the throughput of the system), a new strategy of control by providing service is proposed. This strategy suggests that service temporarily stops if the number of customers or units of energy in the system becomes zero. The server is switched off (is in sleep mode) for some time. This time finishes (the server wakes up) if both the number of customers in the buffer and the number of energy units reach some fixed threshold values or when the number of energy units reaches some threshold value and there are customers in the buffer. Arrival flows of customers and energy units are assumed to be described by an independent Markovian arrival process. The service time has a phase-type distribution. The system behavior is described by a multi-dimensional Markov chain. The generator of this Markov chain is derived. The ergodicity condition is presented. Expressions for key performance measures are given. Numerical results illustrating the dependence of a customer’s loss probability on the thresholds defining the discipline of waking up the server are provided. The importance of the account of correlation in arrival processes is numerically illustrated.

Continuous efforts to construct high-speed and lightweight ship have been made to reduce cost against growing oil prices. In this context, aluminum has received attention as an alternative material for steel, for small and medium-sized ships. In an effort to extend service life of aluminum, various researches have been attempting to improve the corrosion resistance and anti-corrosion characteristics by applying heat treatment and alloying. The material, however, has a high probability of being attacked by corrosion and erosion, caused by high ship speed in severe marine environments. Cavitation damage is dependent on several important factors, such as shape of objects, surface roughness, rotation speed, fluid pressure and velocity. Vapor pressure, density and surface tension of fluid are also taken into account. In this study, an electrochemical cavitation erosion-corrosion experiment was conducted as a function of solution temperature and applied amplitude for 5083-O aluminum alloy used commercially as a hull material for a small sized ship. The result of the experiment revealed that the damage was accelerated due to synergistic effect of corrosion and erosion as the solution temperature was elevated, and that the weight loss showed a steady increase with increasing time of cavitation.

One of the primary factors that affect the safe maritime navigation is the insufficient experience and skill of an apprentice officer, which may be improved using simulation-based training by ensuring operational efficiency. This study aims to determine appropriate factors for achieving effective and intensive simulation-based training of apprentice officers and present the guidelines for such a training scheme. Initially, a marine traffic risk model, which interprets and accurately measures the risk of collision with other vessels, is analyzed to derive the most influential factors in safe navigation. Subsequently, simulation experiments are conducted by applying machine learning to verify the required safe navigation factors for effectively training the apprentice officers. As a result of the above analysis, it was confirmed that the factor affecting safe maritime navigation was the distance from other vessels. Finally, the differences between these distances in the simulations are analyzed for both the apprentice officers and the experienced officers, and the guidelines corresponding to both these cases are presented. This study has the limitation because of the difference between the ship maneuver simulation and the actual ship navigation. This can be resolved based on the results of this study, in combination with the actual navigation data.

Opis:
We investigated the microstructural and magnetic property changes of DyCo, Cu + DyCo, and Al + DyCo diffusion-treated NdFeB sintered magnets. The coercivity of all diffusion treated magnet was increased at 880ºC of 1st post annealing(PA), by 6.1 kOe in Cu and 7.0 kOe in Al mixed DyCo coated magnets, whereas this increment was found to be relatively low (3.9 kOe) in the magnet coated with DyCo only. The diffusivity and diffusion depth of Dy were increased in those magnets which were treated with Cu or Al mixed DyCo, mainly due to comparatively easy diffusion path provided by Cu and Al because of their solubility with Ndrich grain boundary phase. The formation of Cu/Al-rich grain boundary phase might have enhanced the diffusivity of Dy-atoms. Moreover, relatively a large number of Dy atoms reached into the magnet and mostly segregated at the interface of Nd2 Fe14 B and grain boundary phases covering Nd2 Fe14 B grains so that the core-shell type structures were developed. The formation of highly anisotropic (Nd, Dy)2Fe14B phase layer, which acted as the shell in the core-shell type structure so as to prevent the reverse domain movement, was the cause of enhancing the coercivity of diffusion treated NdFeB magnets. Segregation of cobalt in Nd-rich TJP followed by the formation of Co-rich phase was beneficial for the coercivity enhancement, resulting in the stabilization of the metastable c-Nd2O3 phase.

To determine the impact of an oxidizing Ar-H₂-H₂O/air dual atmosphere on the kinetics and mechanism of oxidation of the Crofer 22APU steel as compared to oxidation in a single atmosphere (Ar-H₂-H₂O or air), the oxidation kinetics of this steel were investigated both in single and dual reaction atmospheres at 1073 K during 100, 250, 500, and 1000 h of oxidation. Detailed morphological observations and the results of chemical composition analyses carried out using transmission electron microscopy combined with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy revealed the presence of Fe in the scale formed on the cathode side in the dual atmosphere. Based on morphological observations (scanning- and transmission electron microscopies) and chemical and phase composition analyses (energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction, respectively) of the products of oxidation of the Crofer 22APU steel, and on the determined oxidation kinetics, a mechanism describing scale growth on both sides of the steel during its oxidation in conditions involving a gradient of the chemical potential of oxygen and hydrogen was proposed.
