Целю статьи является анализ романа Виктора Пелевина Generation „П” в контексте теории «текучей современности» польского философа и социолога Зигмунта Баумана. Как российский писатель, так и польский ученый указывают на отрицательные результаты влияния современной - необыкновенно гибкой, текучей, свободной от границ и условий - коммерческой цивилизации на повседневную жизнь человека, его менталитет, систему ценностей, самоидентификацию и чувство собственного достоинства. Философии повседневности, основанной на апофеозе «маленьких действий» и заботе о личных идеалах угрожает философия «текучей современности», провозглашающая подражание таким идолам, как реклама и масс-медия.  
The purpose of the article is to analyze the novel by Victor Pelevin Generation “P” in the context of the theory of “fluid modernity” by the Polish philosopher and sociologist Zygmunt Bauman. Both the Russian writer and the Polish scientist point out the negative effects of the modern - unusually flexible, fluid, free from borders and conditions - commercial civilization on a person’s daily life, his mentality, value system, self-identification and selfesteem.
Celem artykułu jest analiza powieści Generation P Wiktora Pielewina w kontekście teorii płynnej nowoczesności polskiego filozofa i socjologa Zygmunta Baumana. Zarówno rosyjski pisarz, jak i polski uczony wskazują na negatywne skutki wpływu nowoczesnej – niezwykle elastycznej, płynnej, wolnej od granic i warunków – cywilizacji komercyjnej na codzienne życie człowieka, jego mentalność, system wartości, samoidentyfikację i poczucie własnej wartości. Filozofia życia codziennego, oparta na apoteozie "drobnych działań" i dbałości o osobiste ideały jest zagrożona przez filozofię płynnej nowoczesności, głoszącą naśladownictwo idoli takich jak reklama i środki masowego przekazu.

Zygmunt Bauman is not only a sociologist and philosopher reputable in the world of science, he is also a father figure for people interested in the phenomenon of globalization. Bauman investigates how current economic and political changes influence the lives of particular societies. It was important to underline that also economists can make use of Bauman’s ideas but with a few reservations That is why the following crucial areas were proposed relating to economic aspects: the meaning of consumptionism and wastage; global inequalities; the reasons and consequences of the global economic crisis, and some heterodox matters such as happiness, welfare, and well-being, all of which can be helpful in understanding the multidimensional globalization process.

The subject of this research is Internet folklore. In the present paper, Internet comments were interpreted as narratives unveiling a collective, axio-normative worldview. The main function of the analysed stories is to confirm the dualistic vision of the world that is based on the opposition of us vs. them. The research field was a Polish conservative web portal “wPolityce”. The subject of discussions of Internet users was prof. Zygmunt Bauman and the protest of the right-wing circles during one of his lectures at the University of Wroclaw in 2013.

The article is devoted to the late Zygmunt Bauman (d. January 2017), a scholar who made an enormous impact on world humanities at the turn of the twentieth century. It briefly presents Bauman’s life and a number of the best known concepts from his works. The author first discusses Bauman’s attitude toward Marxist theory and explains his revision of it. He then introduces the main ideas of Bauman work Modernity and the Holocaust. The article ends with a review of Bauman’s reflections on globalisation and a discussion of his thesis concerning the crisis of the nation state.

The aim of the article is to present Hannah Arendt’s and Zygmunt Bauman’s theories of democracy and the Jewish question. The paper consists of three sections. In the first one, there are explained the main concepts of their conceptions of democracy. The second one investigates what the collapse of democracy means for both authors. The third one compares Arendt’s and Bauman’s opinions on the Jewish question. The conclusions explain the main differences and similarities between the researched theories.

In this article, I use Mieke Bal’ concept of wandering notions to analyse the conceptual apparatus that Zygmunt Bauman used in his works. In the first part of the text, I describe the most important features of his works which have connection with the practice of borrowing for the needs of the sociological discourse of the terms coming from other contexts: transdisciplinarity, connections with literature and art, engaged character. Then, I present the examples of the concepts of illustrative, propagation and foundation character which appear in his analyses. In the conclusion, I highlight the significance of categories redefined by him for social sciences and humanities development.

The article describes two approaches to the Holocaust, identified with the names of Zygmunt Bauman and Timothy Snyder. In this dyad, Bauman stands for the culturalist, sociological approach focused on identifying the social conditions in which otherness is produced and tracing the significance of modernity and bureaucracy for the Shoah. In contrast, Snyder dismisses the notion that anti-Semitism and modern statehood played a crucial part in the Holocaust. The study also identifies contemporary adherents of the two interpretations in Poland.
Tekst opisuje dwa sposoby interpretacji Zagłady, które sygnowane są nazwiskami Zygmunta Baumana i Timothy’ego Snydera. Bauman symbolizuje podejście kulturalistyczne i społeczne, poszukujące społecznych warunków produkcji inności, nowoczesnych i biurokratycznych rysów Szoah. Snyder przeciwnie, oddala argument antysemityzmu i nowoczesnego państwa jako ważnych czynników Zagłady. Autorka wskazuje na współczesne kontynuacje obu linii interpretacyjnych w Polsce.

In Modernity and the Holocaust, Zygmunt Bauman argued that the Holocaust had been by no means a negation of the civilising process, but was, on the contrary, its consequence. He claimed that the constitutive features of solid modernity, such as bureaucratic culture, the rise of instrumental rationality and the domination of blueprint utopia, were reflected in the genesis and course of the Holocaust. Bauman’s main aim in writing the book was to make fundamental changes in the problematization of modernity in the social sciences, and to highlight the need to develop norms, values and attitudes that were in opposition to modernity. An overview of these facts provides a starting point for my analysis of Bauman’s later analyses of the Holocaust. By focusing on two issues that he emphasised in the context of the genesis of the Holocaust, namely the mechanism of adiaphorization and the process of the social construction of “otherness”, I show how these phenomena materialize in liquid modernity. I identify their connections with a range of features of the liquid modern condition, including the development of individualism and consumer culture, the sense of insecurity and the “nostalgic turn”. I emphasise that, according to Bauman, both moral indifference and xenophobia are increasingly significant phenomena in contemporary society, which may entail pernicious – and currently barely foreseeable – consequences. I argue that the way Bauman wrote about both solid and liquid modernity was characterised by a dystopian poetics, which was a foundation for his utopian thought.
W Nowoczesności i Zagładzie Zygmunt Bauman dowodził, że Holokaust nie był bynajmniej zaprzeczeniem procesu cywilizacyjnego, ale – wręcz przeciwnie – jego konsekwencją. Przekonywał, że cechy konstytutywne stałej fazy nowoczesności, takie jak kultura biurokratyczna, wzrost znaczenia racjonalności instrumentalnej czy też dominacja myślenia utopijnego o projektanckim wymiarze, znalazły swoje odzwierciedlenie w genezie i przebiegu Zagłady. Jego nadrzędnym celem przy pisaniu tego dzieła było dokonanie zasadniczych zmian w problematyzowaniu nowoczesności w naukach społecznych, a także wskazanie na konieczność rozwijania norm, wartości i postaw, które byłyby wobec niej opozycyjne. Przywołanie tych faktów jest dla mnie punktem wyjścia do analizy późniejszych rozpoznań Baumana poświęconych Holokaustowi. Koncentrując się na dwóch kwestiach, które podkreślał on w kontekście genezy Zagłady, to jest mechanizmie adiaforyzacji oraz procesie społecznego konstruowania „obcości”, unaoczniam to, jak zjawiska te materializują się w płynnej nowoczesności. Wskazuję na ich związki z takimi cechami tej kondycji, jak: rozwój indywidualizmu i kultury konsumpcyjnej, poczucie niepewności, a także „zwrot nostalgiczny”. Podkreślam, że zdaniem Baumana zarówno moralna obojętność, jak i ksenofobia są coraz istotniejszymi fenomenami we współczesnym społeczeństwie, co może wiązać się z bardzo groźnymi – na dziś trudnymi do przewidzenia – konsekwencjami. W artykule dowodzę, że sposób, w jaki pisał on zarówno o stałej, jak i płynnej fazie nowoczesności, charakteryzował się poetyką dystopijną, która stanowiła wstęp do jego myślenia o utopijnym charakterze.
