Opis:
Amaretto i odm. Veneta uprawianą w wełnie mineralnej Flormin oraz Orsil Agro. Stwierdzono, że w środowisku korzeniowym roślin następuje zwiększenie stężenia większości badanych składników: N-NO₃, K, Ca, Mg, Na, Cl, S-SO₄, Fe, Zn, Cu, B. Obniżenie zawartości składników odnotowano jedynie w przypadku fosforu i manganu.
The objective of this work was the investigation of the effect of different type of rockwool on the changes in the chemical composition of nutrients in the root zone of gerbera. The studies were carried out from the beginning of May to the end of September in 1998-1999. Gerbera ‘Amaretto’ and ‘Veneta’ were grown in the rockwool Flormin and Orsil Agro. In the root zone higher concentrations of majority of investigated components (N-NO₃, K, Ca, Mg, Na, Cl, S- SO₄, Fe, Zn, Cu, B) occured. Only the phosphorus and the manganese content decreased. For the cultivation of plants in the open system of fertigation there is no need to diversify the nutrient solution depending on the type of the applied rockwool. The obtained results may be used as a basis for the elaboration of chemical composition of nutrient solution for plant growing in closed recirculation systems.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to determine the effect of deforestation caused by environmental pollution on the chemical composition of stream waters draining the small catchments located in the Skrzyczne massif (Beskid Śląski, southern Poland). In the 1950−60s this area was subjected to heavy anthropogenic pressure with excessive deposition of sulfur and nitrogen compounds. It resulted in the damage to the stands and deforestation of the ridge fragments of the studied area. The study was conducted in the catchment of the Malinowski Stream and its two subcatchments: forested and deforested in 2013. Waters of the studied streams characterized by low conductivity and mineralization. In the ridge subcatchments they were slightly acidic and in the main catchment – slightly alkaline. In all catchments anions were predominated by sulfates – with the largest in the deforested catchment (31% mval/L). Also nitrates had very large share in the structure of the chemical composition of water, particularly in the forested catchment (15% mval/L). Interestingly, there were low levels of bicarbonates, particularly in the ridge catchments, with their share lower than sulfates and nitrates. Cations in all streams were predominated by calcium. The structure of the chemical composition of water of the Malinowski Stream, expressed by the average share of individual ions was as follows: SO4−HCO3−NO3−Cl−F−Ca−Na−Mg−K−NH4, and in the case of streams draining small ridge catchments: – SO4−NO3−HCO3−Cl−F−Ca−Na−Mg−K−NH4. Conductivity of water decreased together with increased water levels in streams during floods. In the deforested catchment this decrease was more evident. The reaction of nitrate concentration to the increase in water level was however different, as in the stream draining the forested catchment it decreased sharply, while in the deforested catchment it decreased slightly or remained at the similar level. In the dry periods the chemical composition of waters of the examined streams were subject to far less change than during the floods, with the changes of e.g. conductivity being much higher in the stream draining the forested catchment.

Opis:
Seen in the light of increasing anthropogenic impacts on the environment and a growing demand for potable water, pollution of groundwater is a very important issue, especially in large city areas. The present research includes analyses ofthe chemical composition at 109 measuring points in the Wrocław area, and of the spatial distribution of groundwater components with regard to land use, geological structure and hydrogeological conditions. Based on spatial analyses, it has been noted that changes depend mainly on land use and the kind of activity carried out in close proximity of water intake. Shallow groundwater in Wrocław is characterised by a great variability of main components. Factor analysis has made it possible to distinguish these components and determine the degree of their influence on the chemical composition of shallow groundwater in the entire study area. The current research demonstrates the high sensitivity of aquifers to pollution and emphasises the role of human activity in levels of groundwater pollution in urban areas.

Opis:
Comparative studies concerning litter fall decomposition were carried out on two inpeatland dunes located in the Narew River Valley. These dunes differ from each other in plant communities growing on their areas. The aim of the studies was determination of the litter decomposition rate and the changes in its chemical composition during study period. As a result, higher content of the nitrogen and plant available forms of the phosphorus, calcium and magnesium and smaller content of the carbon and smaller C/N ratio in leaf material were found. During its decomposition, examined material has increased in carbon and nitrogen content, but the content of the plant available forms of the P, Ca and Mg and C/N ratio has reduced. In most cases, this change has proceeded faster in the deciduous stand.

Opis:
The paper concerns changes of chemical composition of water in headwater streams in the valley of the Kamienna, left bank tributary of the Słupia River (54°19′N; 17°10′E). Water samples were collected in 2012 from three streams, in their upper, middle and lower course every month. Analysis included water temperature, pH, conductivity, and the content of dissolved oxygen, HCO3– , K+, Na+, Ca2+, Mg2+, NH4+, Cl–, NO3–, PO43– and SO42–. Water of the analysed streams was characterized by generally low concentration of solutes (tab. 1) and had bicarbonate−calcium character. The observed low variability of water temperature along the streams resulted from their shortness and rapid flow. Low variability was also observed in case of pH and Mg2+ content. Increasing trends downward the streams were noticed for dissolved oxygen, while decreasing changes were observed for HCO3–, NO3– and PO43–. The remaining components showed different trends in the individual streams, indicating importance of local−scale factors.

Opis:
The study focused on the effects of deforestation by heavy winds and tree stand damage produced by bark beetle invasion on water chemistry of mountainous catchment of Kościeliski Stream in the Tatra National Park (southern Poland). 200 samples of stream and spring water were collected in three series: in July, August and October 2015. Water samples obtained from areas characterized by tree stand damage caused by heavy winds were found to have much higher mean concentration of nitrate (15.44 mg/L) as well as a much higher overall mean nitrate content (3.44% mval/L) than samples obtained from non−deforested areas (3.26 mg/L and 0.78% mval/L). The increase in nitrate concentration and its share in overall water chemistry was high enough that the anion sequence for the deforested areas became altered from HCO3>SO4>NO3>Cl to HCO3>NO3> SO4>Cl. The mean change in water nitrate concentration in areas with tree stands damaged by the bark beetle was smaller (6.17 mg/L; 1.60% mval/L) than that for areas deforested by wind. The concentration of NO3 – in stream water in deforested areas varied more than that in stream water in non−deforested areas.

Opis:
We analysed changes in soil chemical properties (pH, C:N, N, P, K, Ca, Na) inside two forest areas chosen for renewal (Lubartów A and B) and within one post-agricultural site (OEwierczyna) designated for afforestation with Scots pine. The experimental plots were located in areas known as persistent cockchafer grub spots. The Lubartów A site was not fenced and showed signs of wild boar activity. Analyses were carried out in the autumn of 2011 and spring 2012, prior to pine sawdust application to the soil and before tree planting, respectively, and again one year later in May 2013. Precipitation as well as air and soil temperatures were recorded throughout the experimental period. We found that soil temperature and humidity, determined by changes in weather, differences in soil chemical properties between forest and agricultural sites as well as sawdust treatments differentially affected soil reaction, C:N ratios and nutrient content . In the unfenced area (Lubartów A), the content of nutrient forms available to plants decreased no more under sawdust treatment than under control conditions. In the remaining areas, sawdust treatment caused an increase or no change in soil concentrations of the investigated nutrients. Under suitable temperature and humidity conditions, sawdust can represent a significant source of energy-rich compounds promoting diversified edaphone activity, which appears to be the main reason for changes in soil nutrient content.
