    This text is a continuation of and a supplement to Małgorzata M. Grąbczewska’s Adam Jerzy Czartoryski w obiektywie Nadara [Adam Jerzy Czartoryski in the lens of Nadar], an article published in Blok-Notes in 2009. It presented the history of the prince’s unique photo session from 1856 and was inspired by a photograph of Adam Jerzy Czartoryski discovered in the Polish Library in Paris. Convinced of the value of this find, Grąbczewska, the then curator of the photography collection, searched the Parisian records for other photographs of Czartoryski taken by Nadar, one of the best photographers in 19th-century Paris. She found only one negative from the said photo session, at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, and only six positive prints from two portrait shots of the prince. Unbeknown to her, however, other photos from that session ended up in Konstanty Zamoyski’s collection of photographs in Kozłówka. As it turns out, Nadar took not two but four photographs of Czartoryski. Based on this discovery, it was my intention to reconstruct the 1856 photo session in its entirety and share the results of my work and observations. The research was conducted on the Polish collections and documents of prince Czartoryski’s family. The collected material confirmed that the series of his portraits in Kozłówka is likely to be the only such extant collection.

    This text presents the photograph collections of the Archdiocesan Archives in Gniezno, their “location” in the archives, their various forms of occurrence, the state of inventory, as well as the way they are made available and reproduced. These collections are named “varietas ordinanda”, i.e. varieties requiring arrangement and description, a term which corresponds to their actual state.

    Początki diecezji tarnowskiej sięgają schyłku XVIII stulecia. Od początku swojego istnienia diecezja gromadziła dokumentację, która stała się podstawą dla jej późniejszego archiwum historycznego. Jednakże samodzielna instytucja Archiwum Diecezjalnego w Tarnowie powstała dopiero w 1959 r. Do lat 50. XX wieku wszelkie dokumenty o wartości historycznej zdeponowane były w pomieszczeniach Kurii Diecezjalnej w Tarnowie oraz w muzeum diecezjalnym. Największy przełom w dziejach archiwum nastąpił w latach 2009-2015. Dokonano wówczas gruntownej rewitalizacja tej instytucji, podczas której zinwentaryzowano i uporządkowano cały zasób archiwalny, wyodrębniając m.in. 14 działów fotograficznych. Są one zróżnicowane pod względem tematyki, objętości oraz formy zapisu fotografii. W 2015 r. dokumentacja fotograficzna w zasobie tego archiwum liczyła łącznie 33,32 m.b.. W zbiorach tych znajdują się także pozycje (fotografie, grupy fotografii) dotyczące problematyki szkolnictwa i wychowania. Mają one dużą wartość poznawczą i powinny zostać uwzględnione jako źródła ikonograficzne w badaniach historyków i pedagogów zajmujących się tą problematyką. Artykuł zawiera wyodrębniony wykaz 300 takich pozycji, które z perspektywy badaczy dziejów szkolnictwa i wychowania, mogą być użyteczne przy kwerendzie w tarnowskim archiwum diecezjalnym lub też zachęcać do jej przeprowadzenia. W artykule dokonano również omówienia przykładów takiej dokumentacji w postaci „kolekcji” dedykowanych tematycznie: historii Katolickiego Stowarzyszenia Młodzieży Żeńskiej w diecezji tarnowskiej, Małego Seminarium Duchownego w Tarnowie, szkoły podstawowej w Wojakowej oraz biografii Służebnicy Bożej Stefanii Łąckiej.
    The beginnings of the Tarnow diocese date back to the end of the 18th century. From the beginning of its existence, the diocese collected documentation, which became the basis for its later historical archive. However, an independent institution of the Diocesan Archives in Tarnow was established only in 1959. Until the 1950s, all documents of historical value were deposited in the premises of the Diocesan Curia in Tarnow and in the diocesan museum. The biggest breakthrough in the history of the archive took place in 2009-2015. At that time, the institution underwent a thorough revitalization, during which the entire archival resource was inventoried and put in order, including the separation of 14 photographic departments. They are diversified in terms of subject matter, volume and form of recording the photos. In 2015, the photographic documentation in this archive totaled 33.32 linear meters. These collections also include items (photographs, groups of photographs) concerning the issues of education and upbringing. They are of great cognitive value and should be taken into account as iconographic sources in the research of historians and educators dealing with these issues. The article contains a separate list of 300 such items that may be useful from the perspective of researchers of the history of education and upbringing. The list will help them with the query in the Tarnów diocesan archives or will encourage them to carry it out. The article also discusses examples of such documentation in the form of “collections” dedicated thematically: the history of the Catholic Association of Women Youth in the Tarnow diocese, the Small Theological Seminary in Tarnow, the Primary School in Wojakowa and the biography of the Servant of God Stefania Łącka.

    W zbiorach Biblioteki i Archiwum Akademii Sztuk Pięknych w Gdańsku znajdują się m.in. kolekcje fotografii zarówno w postaci cyfrowej, jak i analogowej. Ze względu na charakter zbiorów, które dotyczą historii szkoły, również tej najnowszej, można zaliczyć je do dziedzictwa kulturowego. Te cenne zasoby wymagają ochrony z poszanowaniem prawa do ich udostępniania. Jedną z form ochrony zbiorów analogowych jest tworzenie cyfrowych zapisów zdjęć, w wyniku których powstają bazy danych, a te z kolei również wymagają zabezpieczeń, zarządzania nimi oraz tworzenia właściwych opisów. Przedstawione w artykule działania pracowników Biblioteki i Archiwum Akademii Sztuk Pięknych w Gdańsku na rzecz ochrony zbiorów fotograficznych mają pokazać, w jaki sposób można wykorzystać efekty procesu cyfryzacji zdjęć, a za pomocą internetu dotrzeć do szerszego grona odbiorców.
    The collections of the Library and the Archive of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk feature inter alia the collections of photography, both in the digital and in the analogue forms. Due to the nature of the collections which refer to the history of the school, including the most recent history, we may classify them as a part of cultural heritage. These valuable resources require protection accompanied by the respect of the right of making them accessible. One of the forms of the protection of analogue collections has to do with the making of digital archives of photographs, due to which databases are established, and these in turn also require security, management and the development of appropriate descriptions. The activities of the employees of the Library and the Archive of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk for the protection of the photographical collections which are presented in the article are supposed to demonstrate how the results of the process of the digitalisation of photographs may be used and how to reach a wider group of recipients by means of the internet.

    W Archiwum Instytutu Jana Pawła II przechowywana jest spuścizna archiwalna po ks. profesorze Tadeuszu Styczniu, uczniu Karola Wojtyły, długoletnim dyrektorze Instytutu Jana Pawła II. Materiały archiwalne wchodzące w skład spuścizny, obok opracowanej już dokumentacji aktowej, tworzą także liczne obiekty występujące w różnych postaciach i formach fotograficznego zapisu obrazu. Najliczniej występują odbitki pozytywowe, ale przechowywane są także negatywy i obrazowa dokumentacja zapisana cyfrowo. Autor omawia stan uporządkowania tego zbioru przez pryzmat metodyki archiwalnej, wskazuje na ważniejsze serie i tematy fotograficzne, szczególnie przedstawiając te, które zawierają fotografie związane z działalnością na KUL Karola Wojtyły, a potem papieża Jana Pawła II. Zwraca uwagę na te serie dokumentacji fotograficznej, które ukazują wyjątkowe relacje przyjaźni między papieżem a twórcą spuścizny, ks. Tadeuszem Styczniem. Podsumowując określa konieczne kolejne etapy archiwalnego opracowania i zwraca uwagę na konieczność szybkiego uporządkowania, a szczególnie opisania serii tematycznych oraz identyfikacji wydarzeń i osób przedstawionych na pojedynczych fotografiach.
    The Archives of the John Paul II Institute contains the archival legacy of Rev. Pro-fessor Tadeusz Styczeń, Karol Wojtyła’s student and long-time director of the John Paul II Institute. The legacy material, apart from the textual documentation already arranged and described, includes numerous items in various forms of photographic image recording. Positive prints constitute the most numerous group, but negatives and image documentation digitally recorded are also held in the archives under study. The author discusses the state of arrangement of this collection from the point of view of archival methodology. He presents significant series and photographic themes, focusing on those which contain photographs connected with the activities of Karol Wojtyła (later Pope John Paul II) at the Catholic University of Lublin. He draws attention to those series of photographic documentation which show a unique relationship between the Pope and the author of the legacy, Rev. Tadeusz Styczeń. In conclusion, he defines the necessary successive stages of archival processing and emphasizes the need for quick arrangement, particularly the description of thematic series as well as the identification of events and people depicted in individual photographs.
