The analyses of the trends of the development of social rented housing in the western European countries indicated that the share of flats in that sector depends on the general housing situation and the level of economy in the country. Based on such analyses, surveys were conducted in Poland among university students. The research concerned, among others, housing aspirations on the part of young people. The research results indicated that young people associate their residential future with owned flats.

“(Late) resettlers”, or to put it in simple terms, people of German ancestry who came to Germany from Eastern Europe after World War II, constitute a peculiar case within the spectrum of German migration. On one hand, they are distinct from foreigners, on the other hand, despite having German citizenship, they stand out from the native German population.L. Wilkiewicz refers to this category as “quasi-forced resettlers”. The forced nature of the young resettlers migration may then be seen as doubly strengthened by the fact that they had no impact on their parents decision to leave the country. They were, in a sort of way, uprooted from their original environment and planted into a new, alien one. Having accepted German citizenship and having been attributed the purpose of “living as Germans among Germans”, the resettlers were expected to show a higher degree of integration with local society than “ordinary” migrants. In this study, I shall confine myself to a few selected aspects affecting the success of integration. Presented below are some of the memories that the young resettlers have of the moment of their “(quasi)-forced” migration, of their early days in Germany, of Poland as the country of their childhood, of the reasons for departure as given by their parents, and of the main factors – apart from those personality-related such as intelligence –that contributed to their successful integration.

Der Text ist ein Versuch, die gegenwärtige österreichische Prosa von Frauen im Spiegel feministischer Konzepte zu zeigen. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit gilt dabei den andersgearteten Entwicklungen in Österreich und in Deutschland. Diese zeichnen sich – was die Suche nach neuen künstlerischen Ausdrucksformen betrifft – bereits nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg ab und erfahren eine Radikalisierung seit dem Anfang der 1970er Jahre. Werden die Thematik oder das Sprachverständnis auch von der jüngsten Autorinnengeneration nicht angezweifelt, so verstehen diese ihr Engagement dennoch anders. Die engagierten Feministinnen von einst hingegen spüren einem neuen Ausschlussphänomen nach – dem Alter.
Niniejszy tekst jest próbą ukazania współczesnej kobiecej prozy austriackiej przez pryzmat teorii feministycznych, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem różnic w odniesieniu do literatury pozostałego obszaru niemieckojęzycznego. Rysują się one wyraźnie już po drugiej wojnie światowej w fazie poszukiwania nowych środków artystycznego wyrazu, a na początek lat siedemdziesiątych przypada ich zdecydowana radykalizacja. O ile tematyka czy skupienie na języku nie zostają zakwestionowane także przez najmłodszą generację pisarek, to zdecydowanie inaczej rozumieją one zaangażowanie społeczne. A zaangażowane feministki sprzed lat mierzą się z nowym aspektem wykluczenia – starością.
The text is meant to give an insight into the contemporary prose of female writers in the light of certain feministic concepts with a special focus on the different developments in Austria and Germany. These have already become apparent – as far as the search for new artistic forms of expression is concerned – after the Second World War and have been experiencing a radicalization since the beginning of the 1970s. Even though the youngest generation of female authors doubts neither the subject matter nor the comprehension of language, they still have a different way of assessing their commitment. Meanwhile the committed feminists of the earlier generation are pursuing a new phenomenon of exclusion – age.

In the contemporary world we can often hear representatives of older generation opinions that young people live without the higher values, and only material wealth matters. Is this really true? In the article website Demotywatory.pl will be analysed as an example of the website which is very popular and entered everyday by thousands of young people. This website brings up subjects connected with values. Demotywatory.pl is opinion-forming and this is the space where young people shape their attitudes and values and confront their opinions with others. The Internet gives them opportunity to hold an interactive discourse on values and attitudes. Applying the theories from sociology, anthropology and social psychology enables us to show the development of the attitudes and values while visiting the website as well as the motivations of entering the website.

Wiskitki is a small town situated 6 km from Zyrardów. It has been treated as a laboratory for studying the mechanisms and directions of social change in a small town. The social and geographic mobility of Wiskitki's young generation in relation to their education level and education aspirations were the study's subject. Several data sources were used: Wiskitki 7-grade school's archives covering the period from 1925 to 1960, interviews, participant observation, date stemming from the pupil's essays on a given topic and several others. The factors influencing the change in the upward social mobility patters were the changes both in the sphere of institutions, infrastructure and economic relations, as well as in social consciousness. The increased demand for qualified labor force in the neighboring bigger town and the new bus line between Wiskitki and Zyrardów are the examples of the first group of factors. The change of particular professions' social prestige illustrates the second group of factors.

The article presents an unofficial discussion that took place between one of the most prominent Polish critics of the late 19th century and Antoni Lange, a raising poet of the 90s, whose work had gained little attention from the older colleague. Mentioned briefly in Chmielowski’s Współczesni poeci polscy in 1895, Lange responded to some of the critic’s fterwards. Chmielowski did not respond to that directly, however, his review of Lange’s volume of poetry published at the time and the will to defend his claims using the adversary’s poetry as a pretext shows that the young poet had succeeded in provoking the respected critic to take defensive position. The two writers, discussing an ongoing ‘crisis’ of poetry, present their own perspectives on the roots of the situation. Chmielowski’s claims from the beginning of the 20th century prove that the dispute, unofficial as it was, was won by Antoni Lange.

Generally speaking, young people in Poland do not reject religion. The vast majority of youth declare themselves to be believers. Their faith, however, is characterized by subjectivity and selectiveness. Situationism is a trait of the Polish young generation. They make their choices dependent on something… Gaining a good education, a good job and starting a family are important life goals for young people. The youth of the 21st century are called “the youth without wings”. Those young people do not have any great ideals. They are not attracted by high values of a changing the world, they do not aim at establishing a better social system. The youth of the 90’s used to set up non-governmental organizations, they took up social activity in the third sector. The young people of the 21st century comprise a generation focusing on their own future. It is not a struggling generation but rather one evading or minimizing their activity in spheres which do not bring them direct benefits. Whatever is not practical, needed for today, is discarded.

Since 1945, in Opole Silesia, there have occurred unique processes of forming regional community of varied socio-demographic structure, identity, different experience of history, attitudes and views. Among the social groups inhabiting the region, a significant place is occupied by the population displaced from the Former-Eastern-Lands of Poland, living beside settlers, that is people who came here from others regions of Poland, as well as native Silesians. I present, then, the processes of shaping and changes in the individual and group consciousness in the generation–oriented dimension and also the evolution of the memory of the past and its influence on the current social life. A particularly interesting problem is the attitudes of the young generation towards the transmission of the family remembrance of the past, since – in the light of the research results – the thesis can be put forwards, which needs further verifying in broadly–conducted research into this group though, that are hard to foresee at the moment, the displaced will make a rather disappearing group in Opole-Silesia.

Emerging adulthood is a phenomenon constituting the correlate of post-modernity and changes on the labour market, which affect particularly a young generation. It is a new phase in life, including the age of 18 to 25-30, the essence of which is experimenting with roles in life – in regard of family, love, work and changeability of worldview. The article constitutes an exemplification of threats which are caused by emerging adulthood to the development of the identity of a young generation. In the theoretical part of it, the article includes the characteristics of the phenomenon, and an attempt to indicate the factors which determine them. In the empirical part, it refers to developmental disorders of the identity, which are very characteristic for this phase of human life.

The article is an attempt to scientifically explain the role patriotism holds in the life of the Polish society. Special attention has been paid to young citizens, born after 1989, who understand and respect the value of the socio-systematic changes in Poland different than their parents generation. Based on their own questionnaire study the Authors are also trying to describe the way of perceiving this phenomenon: how much is it just an emotional bond with the homeland, country, state, region, city, society, and how much is it a practical action for the good of the country or local society? The article also includes the overview of different views on patriotism in the theoretical approach. The phenomenon of patriotism is being considered in the context of the wider issue: national/European identity, hierarchy of values or citizen activity.

Niniejszy artykuł jest raportem z badania opinii na temat kryzysu gospodarczego i finansowego oraz jego skutków, które zostało przeprowadzone w dniach od 17 kwietnia do 8 maja 2013 r. wśród 217 Europejczyków w wieku 18-30 lat za pomocą formularza zamieszczonego na stronie internetowej www.crisisgeneration. org. W artykule rozważa się wyniki badania w porównaniu z aktualnymi danymi o społecznej sytuacji młodzieży w regionie Unii Europejskiej i na świecie. Wyniki prowadzą do wniosku, że obecny kryzys ma znacznie bardziej skomplikowane podłoże niż tylko finansowe. Młodzi ludzie mają świadomość trudnej sytuacji, ale jak sami deklarują, nie dotyka ona ich, ani ich rodzin bezpośrednio.
This article is based on a report made on the audit opinion on the financial and economic crisis and its consequences. It was conducted from 17th April to 8th May 2013 among 217 Europeans aged 18-30, using the form on the website www.crisisgeneration. org. The article contains results of the study, compared with the current data on the social situation of young people in a European Union region and in the world. Its results lead to the conclusion that the current crisis has a much more complicated than just the financial backing. Young people are aware of the difficult situation, but as they declare their families are not directly affected.
Настоящая статья – отчет об обследовании мнения об экономическом и финансовом кризисе, а также о его последствиях, проведенном с 17 апреля по 8 мая 2013 года среди 217 европейцев в возрасте 18-30 лет с помощью формуляра, помещенного на веб-сайте www.crisisgeneration.org. В статье рассматриваются результаты исследования, сопоставляя их с актуальными данными о социальном положении молодежи в регионе Европейского Союза и в мире. Результаты приводят к заключению, что у нынешнего кризиса намного более сложная почва, нежели только финансовая. Молодые люди осознают свое трудное положение, но, как они сами заявляют, оно не касается непосредственно их ни их семей.
