The article presents a description of the project “Science- Art –Education” carried out at Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Cracow University in the years 2011-2013. The idea of the project – based on the experience from Slovenia, Slovakia, Ukraine and Poland -  was to set up a new network of co-operation  among  teachers of young learners in the area of teaching artistically gifted children in classes 1-3 of primary school. The author presents the selected strategy of teacher education and training based on the created model. She also suggests several ways of  improving teacher training and education at ministerial level as well as in everyday  school  practice and in co-operation between universities and  school teachers.In the final part the author describes the current phase of the project realisation in some schools in Małopolska.
Artykuł przedstawia opis projektu „Nauka – Sztuka – Edukacja” realizowanego w Krakowskiej Akademii im. Andrzeja Frycza Modrzewskiego w latach 2011–2013. Jego istotą było stworzenie nowej sieci współpracy w dziedzinie edukacji dzieci zdolnych plastycznie z klas I–III szkoły podstawowej na bazie doświadczeń podmiotów zagranicznych: ze Słowacji, Słowenii, z Ukrainy i Polski. Autorka przedstawia wybraną strategię kształcenia i dokształcania nauczycieli edukacji wczesnoszkolnej. Ukazuje szereg postulatów, których spełnienie może prowadzić do poprawy procesu kształcenia nauczycieli zarówno na szczeblu ministerialnym, jak i w praktyce szkolnej i we współdziałaniu uczelni oraz nauczycieli. W końcowej części artykułu autorka opisuje aktualną fazę realizacji trzyletniego programu wdrażania modelu NSE w wybranych szkołach Małopolski.

In recent years, we have been able to observe a stronger trend to explore the educational reality by way of scientific research. This results from the pressure on quantitative indicators and evidence-based arguments. International surveys focus mainly on educational effects and provide more or less accurate rankings of educational systems and the degree of learners’ success, school and national rates. In addition to these trends, however, it is also necessary to focus one’s research on the real world of children and young learners in a holistic concept. Qualitative research strategies prefer more phenomenological and personalistic approaches based on exploratory and investigative scientific methods. Such approaches have been applied by the authors in previous studies: they have published several studies and two monographs dedicated to children who are about to begin their education and their understanding of the world. This research was supported by the VEGA 1/0598/15 “The Child at the Threshold of Education and its World” project. In this paper, the authors will present brief findings from these studies. The basic source was authentic children’s testimonies to the significant phenomena of their world and childhood. Building on these findings, we are currently focusing our research on the formation and development of the children’s readability (supported by the VEGA 1/0455/18 “Research and Development of Readability with Younger School-Age Learners” project1). There are convincing claims that this phenomenon is the most important determinant of success in education and the development of creativity and critical thinking.

Thus, the paper draws on the concept of the neofantastic to reveal a literary space of aesthetic and ideological transgression that moves among three thresholds: the magical or fairy, the unusual and the absurd or nonsense.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badania zrealizowanego w 2015 roku przez Fundację Dzieci Niczyje na temat korzystania przez małe dzieci z urządzeń mobilnych w Polsce. W badaniu wykazano, że 64% dzieci w wieku 6 miesięcy – 6,5 roku korzystało z urządzeń mobilnych, a im starsze były dzieci, tym większy był odsetek korzystających. Są to wyniki zbliżone do uzyskanych w badaniach zagranicznych. Najczęściej dzieci wykorzystywały nowe media do oglądania filmów, a bardzo często grały czy po prostu bawiły się bez specjalnego celu. Stosunkowo duża była grupa codziennych użytkowników, także wśród najmłodszych dzieci. Jako przyczynę udostępniania dzieciom urządzeń mobilnych, rodzice najczęściej wskazywali konieczność zajęcia się własnymi sprawami lub chęć nagrodzenia dziecka. Zarówno wyniki niniejszego badania, jak i rezultaty z innych krajów wskazują na konieczność zmobilizowania rodziców do monitorowania użytkowania przez dzieci urządzeń mobilnych. Rodzice powinni nie tylko kontrolować czas i treści przekazu medialnego, ale również uczyć dzieci, jak krytycznie i bezpiecznie korzystać z nowoczesnych technologii. Zwiększy to szansę na uniknięcie w przyszłości negatywnych konsekwencji nadmiernego lub niewłaściwego korzystania z urządzeń mobilnych.
The article presents the results of study on young children’s media use in Poland. The research was conducted by The Nobody’s Children Foundation in 2015. 64% children age 6,5 and under used mobile media. Older children were more likely to use them. This outcomes were similar to findings from international studies. New technologies were used for watching videos the most often. Quite frequently children also used mobile devices for playing games or just playing with them without any special reason. Relatively big was the group of daily users, even among the youngest. Most parents let children play with mobile media while running errands or when they wanted to reward children. Both outcomes of this research and findings of studies from other countries lead to conclusion that parental monitoring of children’s use of mobile devices is crucial. Not only should parents monitor time and content of media, but they should also learn children how to be critical on media and how to use them safely. This could minimise the risk of too extensive or inappropriate use of media in future.

The article discusses the importance of effective communication and informational support for parents of children with hearing impairment who are in difficult situations. I present three cases: a young parent of a child with hearing impairment; parents and children with genetic deafness (the “Deaf” family); and a child with multiple disabilities, including hearing impairment. Based on these cases, I discuss general guidelines of how to give effective help to patients in difficult situations, which can occur in the practice of physicians and speech therapists. In the last part of the article, I show a roadmap for effective communication between healthcare professionals and patients with hearing impairment. The roadmap was developed based on the classic Jacob’s theory of speech acts.

The history and publishing output of Nasza Księgarnia, Poland’s biggest publisher of children’s and young adult literature founded in 1921 and still operating, has been extensively researched by bibliologists and literature scholars over the last decades (Bylina, 1961; Aleksandrzak, 1972; Rogoż, 2009; Jamróz-Stolarska, 2014; Biernacka-Licznar, 2018a; Gawryluk, Lajborek & Korobkiewicz, 2021). However, the post-2000 productions of contemporary Polish writers and their translations into Italian have not attracted interest from Polish researchers yet. The paper aims to examine the publishing repertory of Nasza Księgarnia and identify the list of titles that made their way into the hands of the Italian reading public between 2012 and 2022. Based on the bibliometric method and interviews with the NK staff, the study generated reliable data and yielded a detailed account of the repertory released on the Italian publishing market in the last decade.
La storia e la produzione editoriale della casa editrice Nasza Księgarnia fondata nel 1921 a Varsavia e operante fino ad oggi, è un tema che è stato oggetto di intense ricerche condotte da bibliologi e studiosi di letteratura per l’infanzia negli ultimi decenni (Bylina, 1961; Aleksandrzak, 1972; Rogoż, 2009; Jamróz-Stolarska, 2014; Biernacka-Licznar, 2018a; Gawryluk, Lajborek & Korobkiewicz, 2021). La questione del repertorio editoriale di autori polacchi contemporanei le cui opere sono state scritte dopo il 2000, e la loro traduzione in italiano, non ha finora incontrato l’interesse dei ricercatori polacchi. L’obiettivo dell’articolo è quello di analizzare il repertorio editoriale di Nasza Księgarnia e stabilire un elenco di titoli che sono stati pubblicati in Italia nel periodo 2012–2022. L’uso del metodo statistico nello studio e le interviste con le persone responsabili dell’introduzione dell’offerta editoriale sul mercato italiano hanno permesso di ottenere dati affidabili e dettagliati per descrivere il repertorio che si è affacciato sul mercato editoriale italiano nell’ ultimo decennio.

The history of translations of distinguished authors (Collodi, De Amicis, Salgari) and selected female Italian writers is analysed. The article presents also “short” life histories of Polish translators who worked in the years 1923-1939. It was through their effort and dedication that Polish children of the inter-war period were introduced to Italian literature for young readers.

The paper outlines the publishing history of Henryk Sienkiewicz’s Quo Vadis in Italian editions for children and young adults in the 20th century. The research conducted so far has shown that Sienkiewicz’s novel was part of Italian publications for a young readership as early as at the beginning of the 20th century, and that the book was frequently republished and reedited by numerous publishing houses over the following decades. The paper aims to present the strategies applied by Italian publishers as they recast Sienkiewicz’s work into versions specifically targeting young readers. Sienkiewicz’s Roman narrative proved a source of easy revenue for many publishing houses. Discreditable translatory practices were, at least at the beginning of the 20th century, mainly the domain of Milanese publishers whose efforts also focused on reworkings of Quo Vadis for children and young adults after the Second World War. The paper discusses examples that vividly illustrate the commercialisation of literature and publishers’ responses to the changes of the Italian publishing market in the second half of the 20th century. The findings of a study that used quantitative methods to analyse the corpus of 18 Italian editions of Quo Vadis are presented as well.
L’articolo abbozza la storia delle edizioni italiane per ragazzi e adolescenti di Quo vadis di Henryk Sienkiewicz nel XX secolo. Sulla base delle ricerche finora svolte, è stato accertato che l’opera di Sienkiewicz comparve nell’offerta editoriale italiana rivolta ai giovani lettori già dall’inizio del Novecento, e poi per molti decenni fu volentieri riproposta da numerose case editrici. L’obiettivo dell’articolo è quello di indicare le strategie degli editori italiani che, pensando ai giovani lettori, portarono alla realizzazione di nuove versioni dell’opera di Sienkiewicz. La trama romana del romanzo di Sienkiewicz si rivelò una fonte di facile guadagno per molte case editrici e in ambito di pratiche traduttive ingloriose si distinsero, almeno all’inizio del Novecento, gli editori milanesi, offrendo, soprattutto dopo la Seconda guerra mondiale, anche rifacimenti e riadattamenti di Quo vadis per il giovane pubblico. Gli esempi riportati nel testo illustrano anche il processo di commercializzazione della letteratura e le risposte degli editori all’evoluzione del mercato editoriale italiano nella seconda metà del XX secolo. L’articolo presenta anche i risultati della ricerca sul corpus di 18 edizioni italiane di Quo vadis con l’applicazione dei metodi quantitativi selezionati. In the first part, the authors of the paper investigate the issue of so-called “affective turn” in contemporary literary studies, which they call a form of collective reaction to chosen problems of social life and its manifestation in literature. The researchers emphasise that affectivity has been present in litera ture for children and young adults for a long time. It manifests itself through the presence of factors responsible for the structure and reception of a literary work. Those are the elements which influence the emotional world of a young reader. The following parts of the paper concentrate on the analyses of two vol umes of stories: Pralnia pierza. Opowiadania o tym, co ważne (2018) by Dorota Combrzyńska-Nogala and Gorzka czekolada i inne opowiadania o ważnych sprawach (2016), whose authors are well-known writers of Polish literature for children. In the collection Pralnia pierza… the authors identify an example of implicating affective narration, which exposes deduction, resulting, as well as mutually interweaving psychosocial and cultural-spatial phenomena. On the contrary, the anthology Gorzka czekolada… has been interpreted by the au thors as a type of explicating affective narration, with the majority of (auto)de fining and explanatory-exemplifying elements.

An attempt to assess the structure of the studied families, patterns of their functioning, home and environment provision of toys stimulating children’s development, as well as verification of possible relationships between these variables was undertaken in this study. In order to give suggestion of typology of families there was an analysis of clusters. The study involved 126 families with children aged from 3 to 18 months. Following instruments were used: AHEMD for children aged 3-18 months and HOME for children aged 0-36 months “Interview and observation”. On the basis of the cluster analysis five types of families were distinguished – “Families with training parents”, “Families with caring parents”, “Families with parents overcoming difficulties”, “Families with elitist parents” and “Families with not-involved parents”.

The work concerns the role of childhood experiences in the development of mental health. It is believed that regardless of the emotional relationship and genetic predispositions, appropriately selected stimulants in the environment may also influence the young child’s development. In the first periods of child’s life the experiences gained in family pay as crucial character as the environment where this development takes place. It is emphasized in literature that appropriate intellectual and social development of a child is related with the influence of the external environment as long as it is available and logically designed. In Poland only a few studies concern families with small children – they are usually carried out by sociologists, moreover, there is also very little data on the determinants of the development of children and possible role of these for mental health. It was therefore attempted in this work to describe possible childhood experiences, which may play role in the development of mental health in childhood and adolescence or adulthood.

W swojej pracy autorka prezentuje oraz poddaje analizie sposoby reprezentacji tradycji baśni we współczesnej polskiej dramaturgii dla dzieci i młodzieży. Zaczyna od przywołania dwóch utworów Marty Guśniowskiej, których daty publikacji (2004 i 2013) wyznaczają czas, gdy tradycja baśni szczególnie inspirowała współczesnych dramatopisarzy. W sztukach Baśń o Rycerzu bez Konia i Ony… Guśniowska bawi się motywami znanymi z tradycyjnych opowieści – w pierwszym przypadku robi tak, by uzyskać efekt komiczny, w drugim zaś stosuje filtr baśniowości po to, by mówić o poważnych problemach egzystencjalnych w sposób zrozumiały dla dziecka. Kolejna część zatytułowana Jarosława Jakubowskiego gry z rosyjską bajką magiczną jest poświęcona sztuce Wielka podróż Malinowego Królika. Autorka szkicu analizuje utwór pod kątem jego zakorzenienia w tradycji baśni rosyjskich odwołując się do dzieł Wladimira Proppa. W ostatniej części artykułu przedstawiono trzy dramaty Roberta Jarosza, wykazując fascynację tego autora zarówno konkretnymi opowieściami, jak i kulturą oralną, z której wywodzą się baśnie. Fakt, że wszystkie wymienione utwory w pewien sposób reinterpretują znane opowieści, prowadzi autorkę do wniosku, że każdy twórca odwołujący się do tradycji baśni, w sposób zamierzony lub nieświadomy kontynuuje ją tak, jak kiedyś robili to wędrowni pieśniarze opisani przez Alberta Batesa Lorda.
In her essay, the author presents and analyzes different ways of representing the folktale and fairytale tradition in contemporary plays for children and young adults. In the beginning she recalls two dramas written by Marta Guśniowska: Baśń o Rycerzu bez konia (2004) and Ony… (2013). Time of their publication designates a time-frame when folktale and fairytale tradition was particularly inspiring for Polish playwrights. In the first of her works, Guśniowska deconstructs well-known leitmotivs and characters so as to entertain the audience. In the second one she abuses the wondrous nature of fairytale to speak about serious existential issues in a way which is understandable for a child. The second part of the essay is dedicated to Russian folktale tradition developed by Vladimir Propp and represented in play of Jarosław Jakubowski Wielka podróż Malinowego Królika. The last playwright who is mentioned in the essay is Robert Jarosz. Three dramas of whom are deeply embedded in both particular histories and the oral culture. The fact that all the mentioned dramas are – in some way – the reinterpretation of well-known stories leads Agata Drwięga to the conclusion that each of the playwrights, who refer in his or her work to folktale and fairytale tradition, repeats the gesture of singer described by Albert Bates Lord.

The article is an attempt to indicate a turn towards Mother Earth in children’s and young adult literature and to capture the possibilities offered by this turn in terms of spreading pro-ecological attitudes among the indicated audience. The extensive introduction is intended to introduce the reader to the issues related to the climate catastrophe and to familiarize them with the assumptions of ecological humanities. The main part of the article is devoted to identifying and classifying examples of texts for children and adolescents in the field of both Polish and foreign ecoliterature. The analysis of selected books aims to emphasize the educational value of children’s and young adult literature for climate action and to show that it is, among others, thanks to literary texts that young people take / will take up the fight for a better tomorrow for the planet.

Opis:
This article presents the family manor of the Rostworowski family in Kębło and its importance to the education and upbringing of children and adolescents. After 1949, social and educational activities took place in Kębło manor. In the article, I present various forms of caring for children and adolescents, organized in the manor house. It hosted an orphanage, a State-owned Educational Institute for Handicapped Children, which today is a Boarding Special Education School and a Vocational Preparation School. The State-owned Orphanage operated in Kębło between 1947 and 1982. Now it houses a Special Education Centre and a three-year Work Vocational Preparation School where pupils absorb the knowledge and acquire the skills to help them lead independent lives. As part of practical classes, students grow and care for vegetables and herbs, tend rock gardens and plants, bake cakes, make preserves and prepare simple dishes.
