    Mała syrenka Hansa Christiana Andersena należy do klasyki literatury dla dzieci, ale ze względu na złożoną symbolikę jest to także utwór dla dorosłego odbiorcy. Baśń doczekała się wielu interpretacji. Wciąż jest źródłem inspiracji w kulturze i sztuce. Stała się też obiektem krytycznych polemik, zwłaszcza feministycznych. Reinterpretacje baśni zawierają współczesne powieści fantastyczne adresowane do młodzieży: Part of Your World Liz Braswell, The Surface Breaks Louise O’Neill, To Kill a Kingdom Alexandry Christo i Sea Witch Sarah Henning. Rewizja znanej baśni przynosi nowe kreacje postaci Małej Syrenki i zaskakujące ujęcia jej losu. Przywołane w artykule cztery powieści dotyczą również problemów dojrzewania, relacji z otoczeniem i trudnych wyborów, które determinują życie bohaterek i pozwalają im się usamodzielnić. Powieści to głos współczesnych pisarek postulujących nowy wzorzec młodej kobiety, która jest aktywna i decyduje o swoim losie.
    The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen is one of the classics of children’s literature, but due to its complex symbolism, it is also a story for an adult audience. There have been numerous interpretations of this fairy tale. It remains a source of inspiration for culture and art. It has also become the subject of critical polemics, especially of the feminist ones. Reinterpretations of the fairy tale appear in contemporary fantasy novels addressed to young adults: Part of Your World by Liz Braswell, The Surface Breaks by Louise O’Neill, To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo and Sea Witch by Sarah Henning. The revision of this well-known fairy tale brings us new creations of the main character and surprising versions of her fate. These four books also deal with the problems of adolescence, relations with the environment, and difficult choices that determine the lives of the protagonists and allow them to become independent. The novels are the voice of contemporary writers who postulate a new role model of a young woman who is active and decides about her fate.

    Opis:
    The focus of this analysis is a representation of girlhood in Erin Bow’s 2010 novel Plain Kate. The novel has been categorized as “Young Adult Literature” which has come to indicate subversive and a transformative potential in that it often evokes traditional narrative models only to de- and re- construct them. The eponymous Plain Kate, therefore, is a prototypical Other: an ugly, orphaned and homeless girl who has to flee her hometown under the accusations of beinga witch. She is a transitional character and a boundary-crosser; as such she does not belong anywhere. Importantly, the story makes it clear that what transforms Kate into an outsider is, among other things, her gender, which is why the protagonist’s evolution from a child into an adult is shown through metaphors of the fluid female body. This paper aims to discuss the topography of girlhood on the example of Bow’s novel, focusing specifically on the questions of marginality, otherness, liminality, and transgression, inscribed in the category of Young Adult Literature.

    Opis:
    The article discusses the content of the book by Małgorzata Chrobak, The Hero of Polish Children’s and Young Adult Literature from the PRL Period. Between Creation and Reception, valuable for a diverse audience, including young researchers of literature. The author of the review emphasizes the cognitive value of the first chapter of the monograph, which contains a description of the customs of the PRL period, thanks to the analysis of contemporary works for a young audience set in socialist Poland. Next, the content of the second chapter of the book, which deals with the definition of young adult literature from various perspectives, is presented. The third chapter, entitled “The Hero of Young Adult Literature in the Face of Initiation”, written in the spirit of cultural poetics, is a successful analysis of the creation of several heroes from novels from the PRL period. In the last, fourth chapter of the book, Agnieszka Kania notices a certain lack of examples in an interestingly thought-out and presented clash of the heroes with various aspects of the reality of the People’s Republic of Poland.

    Opis:
    Der Beitrag geht der Frage der literarischen Darstellung von Adoleszenz in Verbindung mit der Migration nach. Das Thema ist sowohl wissenschaftlich, publizistisch, als auch literarisch weitgehend unerforscht. Dabei sind beide Prozesse einander äußerst ähnlich und können in Verbindung miteinander zu großen Störungen der Persönlichkeit sowie enormer Überforderung des jungen Menschen führen. Die Hauptfigur des Textes, ein adoleszentes Mädchen, durchlebt nach ihrer Ankunft in Deutschland Veränderungen auf sämtlichen Ebenen ihres Daseins. Im Beitrag geht es darum, aufzuzeigen, auf welche Aspekte die Aufmerksamkeit der Leser gerichtet wird und wie diese erzähltechnisch dargestellt werden.
    Artykuł poświęcony jest przedstawieniu problemu adolescencji w połączeniu z migracją. Temat ten pozostaje niezbadany naukowo czy publicystycznie, nie był częstym tematem dzieł literackich. Oba te procesy są jednak niezwykle zbliżone i w połączeniu ze sobą mogą prowadzić do znaczących zaburzeń osobowości oraz przytłaczać młodego człowieka. Główna bohaterka powieści, dorastająca dziewczyna, przeżywa po przyjeździe do Niemiec zmiany dotyczące niemalże każdego aspektu jej egzystencji. Celem artykułu jest wykazanie, na jakie aspekty zwraca uwagę autorka, jak również przy pomocy jakich środków narracji.
    The paper deals with the question of the literary representation of adolescence in connection with migration. The topic is largely unexplored, scientifically, journalistically and literarily. Both processes are extremely similar to each other and, combined with each other, can lead to great disturbances of the personality and enormous overburdening of the young person. The main character of the text, an adolescent girl, is experiencing changes on all levels of her existence when she arrives in Germany. The paper aims to show which aspects the reader’s attention is focused on and how they are presented in a narrative manner.
