Opis:
Article published in Science, 2012 by Jennifer A. Doudna, Emmanuelle Charpentier and their team presented a novel tool named as CRISPR/Cas9.  The original CRISPR/Cas9 tool and the whole system developed from it since then allow making precise changes in the nucleotide sequence in the defined locus of the genome. The article presents the already known as well the potential future applications of the system for improvement of cultivated plants. The separate section is devoted to present the background of the Court of Justice decision C-528/16. Discussed are the far reaching negative consequences of this, based not on the merit decision, for the future of European green biotechnology.

Opis:
Winter oilseed rape cultivars (open-pollinated variety, four composite hybrids, one restored hybrid and the CMS ogu- ra line) were tested during two crop seasons of 2002/2003 and 2003/2004 in field trials at two locations in western Poland. The objectives of the present study were: to determine the variability of yield and the most important phenotypic traits of different types of winter oilseed rape cultivars and to analyse the genotypic variabi- lity of this cultivars by environment interactions. The growing se- asons differed especially in terms of water supply. Seed yield, yield components and some quality traits (oil content and total glucosi- nolate content) were recorded. The tested cultivars showed sub- stantial differences in terms of yield and other investigated traits. Analysis of variance indicated that the main effects of cultivar and locations were significant for all the traits of the study. Very high heritability estimates were obtained for seed yield (0.90–0.98), yield components (length of silique, number of seeds per silique and weight of 1000 seeds), and also for oil and glucosinolate con- tents. The correlation coefficients between the investigated traits displayed strong positive relationships between seed yield and the number of seeds per silique, chlorophyll content, and the length of flowering period. The results confirmed the higher productivity of hybrid cultivars, as well as their better adaptability to variable environmental conditions, especially drought.

Opis:
Yield and quality of carrot seed were not affected by the mother root size used. However, the umbel position had significant influence on all the parameters used to evaluate the seed yield and quality except seed water content, which gave no significant response to the umbel order. Primary umbels resulted in better seed quality followed by the secondary umbels and whole plant, while tertiary umbels gave poor quality seed. All the seed yield and quality parameters studied also differed significantly for the interaction between mother root size and umbel order. Growth and yield of resulting roots were also not affected by the mother root size but were significantly influenced by the umbel order and its interaction with root size, indicating the supremacy of primary and secondary umbels on whole plant and tertiary umbels.

Opis:
The research was carried out in 2018 at the experimental station of the University of Life Sciences in Poznań. The plants of the strawberry variety Albion were exposed to sub-zero temperatures in the white bud phase and in full bloom. The possibility of mitigating the results of strawberries subjected to thermal stress was investigated using the Terra-Sorb complex biostimulator with a high content of amino acids. The intensity of flowering, the number, weight and area of strawberry leaves, the number of fruits on a bush and their quality parameters such as fruit weight, extract content and firmness were analysed. It was established that the impact of the sub-zero temperature on strawberry shrubs, regardless of the development phase of the plant, the number of inflorescences and healthy flowers was reduced significantly, the number of fruits, their average weight and firmness decreased. The use of the biostimulator on plants exposed to temperatures from -2 to -3 °C contributed to increasing the number of healthy strawberry flowers by several percentage points, the number of fruits per plant and increased their average weight significantly. The extract content in strawberries remained unchanged.

Z danych literaturowych jednoznacznie wynika, iż gleby wielu rejonów świata, w tym także Polski, obecnie mają niedostateczną dla prawidłowego wzrostu i rozwoju roślin zawartość siarki. Związane jest to przede wszystkim z wyraźnym ograniczeniem emisji przemysłowych oraz zmniejszeniem depozycji tego pierwiastka w glebach przy jednoczesnym stosowaniu nawozów mineralnych o małej jego zawartości. Z uwagi na wiele ważnych funkcji, jakie spełnia ten składnik pokarmowy oraz jego wpływ na ilość i jakość plonu siarka nie może być pominięta w nawożeniu roślin wyższych. Dotyczy to nie tylko roślin krzyżowych, ale także zbóż, które pomimo niewielkich potrzeb pokarmowych w stosunku do tego pierwiastka reagują zwiększeniem plonów po wprowadzeniu go do gleby. Udział siarki w dawce nawozowej jest ważny równiedlatego, iż zapewnia ona właściwy metabolizm azotu. Wyraża się to nie tylko korzystnym wpływem na plon i jakość roślin, ale także ograniczeniem strat azotu w środowisku. W związku z prognozami o stale pogłębiającym się deficycie siarki w produkcji roślinnej oraz koniecznością utrzymania dużego plonowania roślin istnieje realna potrzeba nawożenia upraw tym pierwiastkiem. Dlatego ważne jest poszukiwanie nowych źródeł nawozowych siarki dla roślin uprawnych.
The literature data clearly indicates that soils of many regions of the world, including Poland, are currently characterized by low content of sulphur, which is insufficient to ensure regular growth and development of plants. This can be attributed mainly to the significant reduction of industrial emission and to the decreasing deposition of this element coupled with the simultaneous increase in the application of mineral fertilizers with low sulphur content. Sulphur has to be included in higher plants fertilization, since it has a range of essential functions and affects the quality and quantity of yield. This applies not only to cruciferous plants but also to cereal crops, which, in spite of their low nutritional requirements with reference to this element, respond with a yield increase after its application to soil. Sulphur inclusion in fertilizer dose is essential also because this element ensures proper metabolism of nitrogen. This is reflected not only in the beneficial influence on yield and on the quality of plants but also in the limitation of nitrogen losses in the environment. In connection with the forecasts predicting a continuous increase in sulphur deficiency in plant growing and due to the necessity to maintain high yielding of plants, there is a real need to use this fertilizer in plants cultivation. Therefore it is so important to search for new fertilizer sources of sulphur.
