Opis:: Sustainable development encourages companies to anticipate actions that will help reduce their negative impact on the environment, but will also be beneficial to customers in terms of meeting their expectations. Hence, the purpose was to define the actions that can be expected from SMEs from the V4 countries when improving products and minimizing the negative impact on the natural environment. The research tool was a survey, the presented results of which were obtained from March to September 2023. They included 379 SMEs from the Visegrad Group countries, i.e. Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Hungary. The results were analyzed using statistical tests performed in STATISTICA 13.3. For this purpose, the ANOVA test (repeated measurement designs) and the Mann Whitney U test were used to analyze statistically significant differences between the test results. Analyzes were performed at the significance level of α=0.05. The analysis showed that entrepreneurs from the V4 countries expect relatively different actions from SMEs when improving products and minimizing the negative impact on the natural environment. The results from the analysis may be useful in planning sustainable activities in SMEs from the V4 countries, so that these activities contribute to improving the quality of products and at the same time minimizing the negative environmental impact.

Opis:: Current administrative and legal rules for obtaining permission for execution of a groundwater intake vary vastly depending on the intended purpose and depth of such an intake. In extreme cases, it might be necessary to prepare a number of reports and assessments, largely overlapping in content, and obtain several administrative decisions. In parallel, Polish geological and mining law allows for execution of a well up to a depth of 30 m and well yield <5m3/d without any permits or formal reports. As a result, investors abuse conditions of "normal use of waters”, and the geological and mining administration lacks any instruments of control in this area. On the backdrop of a presentation of legal requirements related to execution of groundwater intakes in Poland, the author discusses selected legal provisions in force, cross-examining their relevance. The suggestions for changes in procedures and regulations discussed presented in the paper should be considered as a starter for a discussion between hydrogeology experts, geological administration and lawyers.

Opis:: Over the past ten years, the automobile manufacturing basis has shifted to Thailand, thus transforming the country into an automobile industrial hub in Asia. An integral part of this industry, lead acid battery manufacturing has exhibited tremendous growth with increasing trends toward new manufacturing technology. This research aimed to study life cycle assessments of lead-acid automobile battery manufactured in Thailand by comparing conventional batteries with calcium-maintenance free batteries. Global warming and acidification are the largest environmental impacts associated with both battery types. Changing from conventional batteries to calcium-maintenance free batteries is able to reduce environmental impact by approximately 28% due to longer usage life and reduced utilization of manufacturing resources and energy. The greenhouse gases and acidification caused by one conventional battery amounted to 102 kg CO 2 and 0.94 kg SO2, respectively. These amounts decrease to 72 kg CO2 and 0.56 kg S02, respectively, when calcium-maintenance free technology is used. Raw material procurement is found to have the greatest environmental impact, followed by product usage. In this study, the information on environmental impact is incorporated with MET matrix principles to propose guidelines for environmental improvement throughout the battery life cycle.
