Opis:
The article considers several modern scientific papers substantiating the need for assessing workplace safety and focusing on methods applied for the quantitative assessment of working conditions. The analysis found unsolved problems in qualimetry, which could lead to the development of new practical and generally applicable methods to effectively assess working conditions. The analysis proved the relevance of the topic and helped to determine the aim of the article, i.e., the development of a methodology for the quantitative assessment of working conditions in industries, considering harmful production factors. An exponential distribution, which belongs to the theory of extreme statistics, was proposed for the transition of heterogeneous single indicators of harmful factors into a dimensionless scale. Affine transformations were used to combine dissimilar scales, making it possible to divide segments on dissimilar scales into equal proportions. The article proposes a step-by-step method for determining a complex indicator of working conditions in industries. The proposed methodology allows management decisions that minimise the deviation in actual values of harmful factors from the optimal ones. The developed technique was tested at one specific metallurgical production site.

Opis:
This paper presents an application of a powered roof support equipped with an electrohydraulic control system to underground excavations with mining tremors hazard. The research included an analysis of mining and geological conditions of longwall 2, seam 506, section K in Wujek Mine, Ruch Śląsk and an assessment of a system providing protection from dynamic loads for a hydraulic leg of Glinik-12/23-POz powered roof support. The final results of the research include an optimization of a powered support's protection system designed to work in mining and geological conditions of longwall 2 located in seam 506 K. The optimization was based on tests of the hydraulic leg and the support system for hazardous conditions of mining tremors. The process included proper operation of relief valves, leg's valves (check control valve), bearing capacity of the leg and a cross-bar.

Materiał i metody: Materiałem badawczym jest literatura związana z problematyką dotyczącą procesu nauczania i kształtowania człowieka w środowisku zagrożenia. Prezentuje ona permanentną drogę edukacyjną w odniesieniu do kultury bezpieczeństwa, wskazując różne na źródła pro-bezpiecznych postaw i zachowań. W pracy stosuje się metodę analizy tekstów. Wyniki: Kształtowanie zachowań pro-bezpiecznych powinno stanowić kompatybilny ze sobą system wszystkich sfer edukacji tej formalnej jak i nieformalnej. Wniosek: Samo uczenie zwłaszcza, w procesie kształtowania kultury bhp, jest cyklem nieprzerwanym, polegającym na aklimatyzacji do wszelkich zmian zachodzących w toku rozwoju cywilizacji i na podnoszeniu sprawności racjonalnego wdrażania wiedzy w codziennym życiu. Dotyczy to, tak samo wiedzy teoretycznej, jak i praktycznej.
Introduction and aim: The article characterized were selected areas of informal education, performing a vital role in shaping the culture of safety. Culture is understood as knowledge, skills and human activities, whose mission is to protect life and health. The main aim is to draw attention to the need for development of pro-safe behaviors constituting compatible with each system all currents education activities with full use of the available resources and teaching methods. Material and methods: The material is the literature related to the problems related to the process of teaching and shaping of human environment hazards. It presents ongoing educational path in relation to its safety culture, indicating different sources of pro-safety attitudes and behavior. Some method of texts analysis is used in this paper. Results: Shaping the pro-safe behavior should be compatible with each system in all spheres of education of the formal and informal. Conclusion: But teaching in particular in the process of shaping the occupational health and safety culture is a continuous cycle of acclimatization to any change in the course of civilization development, the efficiency of the rational implementation of knowledge in everyday life. This applies equally to both theoretical and practical knowledge.

Troska o pracownika jest istotna z punktu widzenia bezpieczeństwa i higieny pracy. Oznacza to zmniejszenie wypadków oraz wzrost zainteresowania zdrowiem publicznym. Oczywiste jest, że spożywanie alkoholu jest uznawane za poważne zagrożenie dla życia, zdrowia, a także bezpieczeństwa pracowników. Celem badań była identyfikacja głównych problemów, jakie wiążą się z nadużywaniem i spożywaniem alkoholu w pracy wśród pracowników branży budowlanej, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem stanowisk pracy, na których wykonywane są prace na rusztowaniach budowlanych. Dane do analizy uzyskano z dwóch różnych źródeł. Pierwszą z nich była dokumentacja powypadkowa dotycząca wypadków przy pracy (analiza grupy 219 osób poszkodowanych w wypadkach przy pracy na rusztowaniach budowlanych w latach 2008–2017). Drugą były ankiety zebrane podczas projektu badawczego. Niniejszy projekt opiera się na modelu oceny ryzyka wystąpienia katastrof budowlanych, wypadków oraz niebezpiecznych zdarzeń na stanowiskach pracy z wykorzystaniem rusztowań (analiza 573 badań ankietowych osób pracujących na budowach obejmujących 120 rusztowań).
The care of workers are essential in terms of occupational health and safety. This implies the reduction of accidents and increased interest for public health. It is obvious that alcohol consumption is considered a serious threat to the lives, health and safety of employees. The aim of the research was to identify the main problems that are associated with alcohol abuse and consumption at work among employees in the construction industry, with particular emphasis on workstations where work is carried out on construction scaffoldings. Data for the analysis was obtained from two different sources. The first one was post-accident documentation on occupational accidents (analysis of a group of 219 people injured in occupational accidents that involved construction scaffolding in 2008-2017). The second one was surveys collected during the research project. This research project is based on a risk assessment model of the occurrence of building catastrophes, accidents and dangerous events at workplaces with the use of scaffolding (analysis of 573 surveys of people working on construction sites involving 120 scaffoldings).

ObjectivesComputer workstations are considered a potential workplace hazard. This study sought to evaluate computer workstation ergonomics in a university office environment, and to determine its relationship with musculoskeletal (MS) and visual symptoms reported by employees.Material and MethodsThis was a cross-sectional observational study. A total of 231 university employees were recruited using a stratified random sampling technique. By means of direct observation, computer workstations were evaluated using the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Ergonomic Computer Workstation Evaluation Checklist. In addition, the participants reported MS and visual symptoms during the past week and 12 months by completing questionnaires.ResultsSeveral ergonomic deficiencies in computer workstations were identified. Seating, working area, and keyboard and input devices had the most documented deficits. A significant proportion of employees reported various MS symptoms during the past 12 months. The most affected body parts were the shoulders (37%), the lower back (34%), and the neck (29%). The most prevalent visual symptom was tired eyes (68%). Logistic regression analysis indicated that MS symptoms, such as ache, pain and discomfort, were significantly associated with the total scores on the OSHA components. Deficits in monitor ergonomics and its placement, particularly the presence of glare reflected on the screen, were also associated with reported visual symptoms. Independent variables, such as gender, age, employment duration, job type, daily computer work hours, and work pattern, reliably predicted the participants’ reported experience of various MS and visual symptoms.ConclusionsBoth MS and visual symptoms are associated with deficits in computer workstation ergonomics. Appropriate strategies, work practices, and preventive measures are needed to eliminate occupational hazards associated with computer workstations.

Wstęp W artykule przedstawiono stan promocji zdrowia w zakładach pracy w Polsce na grudzień 2017 r. Materiał i metody W reprezentatywnej próbie 1000 firm zatrudniających powyżej 50 osób wykorzystano standaryzowane wywiady osobiste wspomagane komputerowo (computer-assisted personal interviews – CAPI). Wyniki Niewiele zakładów pracy (37%) zna potrzeby zdrowotne swoich pracowników. Co czwarty przyznaje jednak, że dba o ich zdrowie bardziej, niż wymaga tego prawo, oraz deklaruje wzrost zaangażowania w działania prozdrowotne. Jednocześnie 55% organizacji sponsoruje pracownikom abonamenty sportowe, a 52% opiekę medyczną. Co druga firma wspiera ich aktywność fizyczną w inny sposób oraz doskonali środowisko pracy. Co trzecia promuje profilaktykę medyczną, dba o redukcję stresu i zdrowe odżywianie się pracowników, rozwiązuje problemy konsumpcji alkoholu. Wskazywane powody takich działań to przede wszystkim troska o wizerunek firmy (79%) i dobrą atmosferę społeczną (72%) oraz efektywność zawodową pracowników (69%), a niestety rzadko – profilaktyka problemów zdrowotnych (43%). Efekty przedsięwzięć promujących zdrowie w miejscu pracy to poprawa wydajności (50%) i stanu zdrowia pracowników (49%) oraz zwiększenie ich deklarowanej identyfikacji z firmą (47%). Przeszkody w prowadzeniu takich działań to niedobór środków finansowych (53%), brak sprzyjających rozwiązań fiskalno-prawnych (48%), małe zainteresowanie pracowników (45%), niedostatki kadrowe osób przygotowanych do zarządzania promocją zdrowia (42%) oraz niewielka wiedza na temat korzyści ich wdrożenia (37%). Firmy świadomie zaangażowane w promocję zdrowia i monitorujące potrzeby zdrowotne pracowników realizują więcej, niż ogół zakładów pracy, tego rodzaju działań, częściej je ewaluują, dostrzegają ich pozytywne efekty oraz potrafią lepiej motywować zatrudnionych. Wnioski Istnieje potrzeba wypracowania rozwiązań systemowych sprzyjających promocji zdrowia w firmach, upowszechniania wiedzy o związanych z nią korzyściach oraz przeprowadzania szkoleń dla zarządzających zdrowiem personelu. Background The paper presents the state of workplace health promotion in Poland as of December 2017. Material and Methods Standardized computer-assisted personal interviews (CAPI) were conducted on a representative sample of 1000 companies employing over 50 people. Results Few companies (37%) actually know the health needs of their employees, whereas 25% admit that they care about health more than it is required by law, and declare their increased involvement in that area. At the same time, 55% of companies sponsor sports tickets, and 52% cover the costs of medical care. Every second company supports physical activity in other ways and improves the working environment. Every third offers medical prophylaxis, takes care of stress reduction and healthy eating habits, or solves the problems of alcohol consumption. The main reasons for such activities are the company’s image (79%), good social atmosphere (72%) and employee’s work performance (69%), while the prevention of health problems is rarely indicated (43%). The effects of workplace health promotion measures include improved productivity (50%), a better health condition (49%) and an increased identification with the company (47%). As for the obstacles, these is a shortage of financial resources (53%), the lack of favorable fiscal and legal solutions (48%), low interest among employees (45%), the lack of skilled people to manage health promotion (42%) and low awareness of its benefits (37%). Companies that are consciously involved in health promotion and monitor the actual health needs implement more activities, evaluate them more often, recognize their positive effects, and are able to better motivate their employees. Conclusions There is a need to develop systemic solutions that foster health promotion in companies, to disseminate knowledge about the benefits associated with it, and to train the staff responsible for employee health management. Workplace safety in furniture industry plants (selected aspects). The practical aim of the study was to define the safety of the working environment of persons employed in the furniture industry in the local labor market of the Opole Voivodeship based on selected aspects. For this purpose, data related to occupational hazards, causes of accidents at work and accident rates were used. The paper recommends a method of recognizing the working conditions, with particular emphasis on the work environment. An analysis of selected indicators shaping safety the work environment was performed. It has been found that despite the apparent improvements in this field, it is still on an unsatisfactory level.
Bezpieczeństwo pracy w zakładach produkujących meble (wybrane aspekty). Celem praktycznym opracowania była próba określenia bezpieczeństwa pracy osób zatrudnionych w branży meblarskiej na lokalnym rynku pracy województwa opolskiego na podstawie wybranych aspektów. Realizacja celu została oparta na analizie danych odnoszących się do zagrożeń zawodowych, przyczyn wypadków przy pracy oraz poziomu wypadkowości. W artykule zaproponowano sposób ujmowania warunków pracy, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem środowiska pracy. Dokonano analizy wybranych wskaźników kształtujących bezpieczeństwo pracy. Stwierdzono, że pomimo widocznej poprawy w tym zakresie, nadal jest ono na niezadawalającym poziomie.

The paper presents problems of exposing cardiac pacemaker (CPM) and implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) to electromagnetic field. The authors have focused on work environment EMF source - RF dielectric heaters. To investigate if the basic restrictions were exceeded according to IEC reference levels, the interface voltage at the input port of a pacemaker in a full 3D human model and phantom was calculated. The result of calculations was analyzed.
Praca prezentuje problemy związane z ekspozycją stymulatora serca i wszczepialnych kardioweterów defibrylatorów na pole elektromagnetyczne w miejscu pracy. Jako źródło pola elektromagnetycznego w środowisku pracy przedstawiono zgrzewarki dielektyczne wysokiej częstotliwości. Przebadano poziom napięcia indukowanego na wejściu urządzenia. W badaniach symulacyjnych wykonanych z wykorzystaniem metody różnic skończonych w dziedzienie czasu (FDTD) zastosowano ograniczenia ekspozycji implantów narzucone przez międzynarodowe standardy .

Introduction and aim: In the article the Authors consider the issue of creating the required safety culture at a company as one of the fundamental objectives under work safety and hygiene management. The changes in system of values and attitudes of company personnel would significantly contribute to improvement of work safety and hygiene. Material and methods: The material is selected issues from the literature. The method of theoretical analysis has been shown in the paper. Results: Providing modern and safe machines and equipment and risk-free technologies are indispensable elements of strategy aimed at reduction of industrial accidents and occupational diseases. However, if the above strategy is not supported with appropriate education on threat identification methods as well as relevant motivation to use safe working methods and encouragement to estimate results of decisions made, then the preventive effect of technology purchased would be of minor degree. Conclusion: For some last decades the consciousness of Polish employers and employees concerning work safety and hygiene has been gradually increasing. Such an approach is also the consequence of apparent interest in problems of building up safety culture.
Wstęp i cele: W artykule rozważa się kwestię tworzenia kultury bezpieczeństwa wymaganą w firmie jako jeden z podstawowych celów w ramach zarządzania bezpieczeństwem pracy i higieny. Zmiany w systemie wartości i postaw pracowników firmy znacząco przyczynić się mogą do poprawy bezpieczeństwa i higieny pracy. Materiał i metody: Materiałem są wybrane zagadnienia z literatury przedmiotu. Zastosowano metodę analizy teoretycznej. Wyniki: Dostarczanie nowoczesnych i bezpiecznych maszyn i urządzeń i wolnych od ryzyka technologii są nieodzownym elementem strategii mającej na celu zmniejszenie liczby wypadków przy pracy i chorób zawodowych. Jednakże, jeżeli powyższa strategia nie jest obsługiwana w odpowiedniej edukacji na temat metod identyfikacji zagrożeń, a także odpowiedniej motywacji do korzystania z bezpiecznych metod pracy i zachęty do oszacowania wyników podjętych decyzji, to efekt prewencyjny zakupionej technologii byłoby niewielkim stopniu. Wniosek: Dla niektórych ostatnich dekadach świadomość polskich pracodawców i pracowników w zakresie bezpieczeństwa i higieny pracy stopniowo rośnie. Takie podejście jest również konsekwencją wyraźnego zainteresowania problematyką budowania kultury bezpieczeństwa.

Newly recruited workers are particularly vulnerable to hazards at the workplace. There is a significant relation between the occurrence of accidents at work and the age and seniority of the employee. We should take appropriate measures in education, training and daily practice.

W artykule przedstawiono teoretyczne ujęcie problemu kultury w organizacji, aby następnie odnieść go do węższego aspektu tego pojęcia, jakim jest kultura bezpieczeństwa, a szczególnie kultura bezpieczeństwa pracy. Kultura bezpieczeństwa pracy w bardzo dużej mierze związana jest z postawami pracowników i pracodawców wobec zagadnień bezpieczeństwa i higieny pracy. W opracowaniu zaprezentowano również wyniki badań nad oceną kultury bezpieczeństwa w przedsiębiorstwie branży przemysłowej. Jako kryterium porównawcze wybranych obszarów mających wpływ na kształtowanie bezpiecznych zachowań, między innymi takich jak: organizacja pracy, probezpieczne zachowania czy komunikowanie o bezpieczeństwie, przyjęto wykształcenie pracowników.
The paper presents a theoretical approach to the problem of culture in an organization, and next relates it to the narrower aspect of this concept, safety culture, especially the culture of work safety. Safety culture to a very large extent is related to the attitudes of employees and employers to the issues of occupational safety and health. The paper presents the results of research on the evaluation of safety culture in a company from the industrial sector. The education of employees was assumed as the comparison criterion of selected areas shaping the development of safe behaviors, such as work organization, safe behavior or safety communication.

Workplace safety is of paramount importance in industries such as coal mining, where accidents and occupational illnesses can result in significant human and economic costs. This study aims to develop an action plan to improve safety standards at Duong Huy Coal Company from 2021 to 2025. A comprehensive survey involving 93 safety managers and 379 workers from various production sites was researched to gather insights and opinions on safety priorities. Focus group discussions and expert consultations were employed to assess the current safety situation, identify challenges, and develop coherent safety solutions. Based on the survey results, the proposed action plan focuses on the following objectives: reducing workplace accidents by 20-25% annually, progressing towards zero accidents in the following years, and increasing productivity and benefits for both workers and the company. The plan also emphasizes the role of company leadership in widely communicating their commitment to safety and the need for individual units within the company to proactively plan, budget, and implement safety measures following their functions and responsibilities. Collaboration with relevant state agencies, mass mobilization campaigns, and the application of science and technology in safety and occupational health will further contribute to the enhancement of workplace safety at Duong Huy Coal Company.

The development of an effective safety culture is essential to promote safe operations. Previous studies have either identified the characteristics of effective safety culture analytically, inferring them from signs and symbols derived from working practices, or have restricted the study of the development of safety culture to workers within an organisation. This paper describes a large-scale survey-based study in which the factors influencing the evolution of safety culture are identified empirically and, drawing upon open systems theory, are also extended beyond the bounds of the organisation. Three major determinants of safety culture are identified: safety concerns, influences and actions. Sub-components within each of these categories are also identified and the relationship between them is hypothesised.

A workplace in the manufacturing industry consists of not only stationary equipment (e.g., machining centres, fixed robots) but also mobile equipment (e.g., automated guided vehicles, mobile robots), with both kinds cooperating directly with workers. Workplace equipment should not only be safe, it should also not generate fear or anxiety; still better if it should inspire calm and confidence. In view of robot laws, this article presents selected examples of robot–human co-operation, reviews safety requirements and safety functions developed to date. It also proposes a package of selected new safety functions, necessary to fulfil this paradigm. It also suggests and presents examples of actions that can make the workplace a human-friendly environment and presents examples of such actions.
