Opis:
During years 1944 to 1956 the communist repression apparatus has kept under surveillance every aspect of civilian life of Przeworsk’s community. There were not people, professions or business entities which could stay out of interest of. Special attention was directed to people who were connected with former Polish Armed Forces on the West and military structures which acted in occupied Poland (f. e. Homeland Army). In the area of interest communist’s security services added inhabitants of Przeworsk city who had private connections with foreigners, listened west radio broadcast or stated negative opinions about communist’s party. Also economic problems in the Przeworsk’s nationalized industry were assessed as planned by enemies of communist system and in order to weaken socialist economy. However, analysis of the documents which were made by communist repression apparatus stated that inhabitants of Przeworsk were not connected with the alleged activity of foreigner intelligence services or harmed city nationalized industry.

The article is the result of the desk research on time spent by Polish people at work and the different kinds of out-of-work activities undertaken by them. The author’s deliberations follow the philosophy of balancing employee needs and promoting work-life balance. The paper includes promotion of the idea of the harmonious growth in all areas of an individual’s functioning and activity, as well as the satisfaction of his/her physical and psychological needs. The purpose of the study was to analyse the interactions between work and out-of-work activity in the context of the mutual enrichment of work and personal life. As results from the conducted analyses, the practical implementation of the work-life enrichment idea into organizational behaviours could guarantee high quality of life with no harm to the society, environment or economy.

    The paper discusses the findings of research conducted by the Department of Criminology of the Polish Academy Sciences’ Institute of Legal Sciences among Warsaw 15 - 17 years-olds who left school but were not gainfully employed, and were subject to the requirement of compulsory vocational training. The problem of this category of youth is of considerable social importance since it is closely connected with the problem of delinquent or socially at risk youth. In 1967 and 1968 the educational authorities in Warsaw registered 5,749 boys and 2,477 girls aged 15 - 17 who were “out of school and out of work”. The Department’s surveys embraced a sample of only a proportion of the youth subject to registration, but it included in all probability a large majority of the boys and girls whose normal education had suffered the greatest disturbances: 1) ones who had completed only four, five or six grades of elementary school and had been directed to newly organized two-year vocational schools; and 2) ones who had completed the 7th grade but had failed to qualify for admission to the 8th grade or to a normal vocational school and had been directed to newly organized one-year vocational schools. The object of organizing these one- and two-year vocational schools was to give the kind of children who drop out of the normal educational stream the chance of learning a trade and also those attending the two-year schools the possibility of continuing their elementary education. It should be noted that in the one-year schools classes are held only twice a week, and in the two-year schools three times a week. The remaining days are given over to practical in-work training. In the 1967/68 school year the Department’s inquiry was conducted among boys attending one- and two-year building and electrical schools and a one-year motor mechanics school; they accounted for 52 per cent of the boys with the greatest degree of school retardation. In the following year, 1968/69, the subjects were boys attending one- and two-year building and electrical schools, to which 60 per cent of boys in this category had been directed. In 1967 a sample for each school was drawn from a complete list of the pupils in attendance, providing a sample of 180 boys. In 1968 the survey embraced all the boys (a total of 252) at these two schools. In 1968/69 the inquiry was extended to include girls as well: the subjects were all the girls enrolled at a one-year catering school (70) and a one-year clothing school (40). As regards the age of the boys assigned to these vocational courses, 43 per cent were over 17 in the first survey, and 23 per cent in the second; the remainder were aged 15 and 16. Girls over 17 formed 31 per cent of the sample. The selection for the Department’s survey of pupils whose normal education had probably suffered the most serious disruptions made it reasonable to suppose that distinct symptoms of social maladjustment would be found among them. To ascertain the incidence of such symptoms and the size of the category of youth with clearly delinquent tendencies or records was one of the chief objects of the inquiry. However, the working hypothesis was that 15 - I7-year-olds “out of school and out of work” were recruited from among the sort of boys and girls who had in the first place had serious problems with the elementary school course and that these difficulties had played a large part in their social maladjustment. As regards the degree of their social maladjustment it seemed likely that they were far less demoralized than the majority of juveniles with criminal convictions and tendencies to recidivism. In the inquiry whose findings are discussed below the following breaches of the fundamental rules of society or the standards of behaviour expected of children and youth were considered evidence of maladjustment: 1) persistent truancy; 2) staying out of school and out of work; 3) keeping demoralized company; 4) running away from home; 5) excessive drinking; 6) delinquency; 7) sexual promiscuity among the girls. Account was further taken of symptoms indicating serious school maladjustment: considerable school retardation and frequent commencement and discontinuance of attendance at different schools. Only those subjects of the inquiry were classified as maladjusted in the case of whom evidence was obtained that they were given to conduct of a certain type and that they regularly displayed a combination of deviational symptoms and not only a single isolated one. It should be indicated that in view of the impossibility of conducting medical and psychological examinations crucial aspects of the genesis and mechanism of difficulties at school and behaviour disorders could not be properly investigated. The inquiry had necessarily to be restricted to symptomatic and not etiological criteria of maladjustment. These were, however, enough to identify on the basis of the degree of neglect of school work and specific behaviour certain boys and girls as being socially maladjusted to some extent or another ‒ which was the main purpose of the research undertaken among this category of youth and made it largely possible to single out the children in need of care and attention. Recourse was had in the inquiry to opinions about the subjects collected from their elementary and vocational schools and from the work-places in which they underwent practical training, to court and police records, etc. Tn addition, in 1967/68 background interviews were conducted in the homes of the subjects. Both in the first and second survey tests were made of their level of achievement in Polish and mathematics at schools and of their intelligence on the Raven’s Progressive Matrices. The inquiry was supplemented by follow-up studies which for the boys in each of the successive years embraced a period of 2 2/3 years and l 2/3 years (including the period of vocational school attendance). The paper in question runs to 140 pp. of print and consists of a number of contributions: Introduction; Section 1, devoted chiefly to the criteria of social maladjustment among children and youth (written by Z. Ostrihanska); Section 2, discussing the findings of the studies of 432 boys (written by H. Kołakowska-Przełomiec); Section 3, reporting on the studies of 110 girls (written by Z. Ostrihanska, in association with A. Kossowska); Section 4, containing the results of the tests of the boys’ and girls’ achievements in Polish and mathematics (written by M. Marek); and a resume of the results of all the research and the conclusions to be drawn from it (written by S. Batawia).

Aim. The aim of the research was to analyse the burnout rate of these social workers and nurses, as well as to determine the relationship between burnout syndrome and other important factors, including lifestyle, stress, resistance to stress and other selected demographic indicators. Methods. The Maslach Burnout Inventory was used to collect burnout data in 2021 during the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. The research sample consisted of 623 women aged 35-55 who work in social services facilities for the elderly and nurses working in the geriatrics department at a hospital in the western part of Slovakia. Results. Research has shown that lifestyle has a significant impact on the development of burnout syndrome in connection with the quality of work and personal relationships, which can help eliminate feelings of frustration, exhaustion and personal failure in the workplace. Burnout affects social workers regardless of age and education, but with older age and length of practice in the same facility, the risk of manifestations of burnout increases. Significant differences in burnout rates between social workers and nurses in the individual dimensions of exhaustion, depersonalisation and professional attitudes were confirmed. High levels of exhaustion have even shown an increased risk of alcohol consumption among these workers. Conclusion. The development of chronic stress in health care workers can put them at risk of burnout, which is characterized by emotional exhaustion (EE), depersonalization (DP) in interactions with patients and social clients, and low levels of personal accomplishment (PA) in social work and health care.

Over the years people fulfilling the honorable task of helping, especially youths, to develop, used definite conceptions of education. In preparing the society to live according to the truths of the Christian faith, the Church invariably ascribed a great role to education. The way education and its character were understood developed during the 2000 years of Christianity and became the basis for the tradition of the European education in general. Especially in the period between the two World Wars foundations were laid for the theoretical basis of the Catholic education. It should be stated with all certainty that Father Marian Pirożyński of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, commonly called Redemptorists, is one of the people who can be numbered among the propagators of the Catholic educational thought. The Church's thought focused on such a direction of education that would make the pupil strive after forming a true and ideal Christian in himself, that is after achieving a fully human character; hence the views inspired by these thoughts – as in the case of Rev. Marian Pirożyński – may be called Catholic pedagogy. Pirożyński eagerly propagated elements of the Church's official teaching in his writings. He opposed pedagogical naturalism that reduced education to using only natural means, in this way excluding or limiting Christian formation by negating the existence of both sin and grace. The Catholic conception of education realized in schools between the Wars had an integral character not only because it took into consideration the supernatural aim of pedagogical activities, but also through physical, intellectual and spiritual development of the pupils. From today's point of view it can also be called open pedagogy that, without blurring the man's multi-aspect relation to the world of nature, recognizes man's transcendental dimension and his relation to God. Pirożyński turns out to be not only an ardent propagator, but also a decided defender of such education.

This paper aims to reconstruct the biographical work (Corbin and Strauss) undertaken by parents of non-normative people. The initiating event of biographical work is the disclosure of a non-normative sexual orientation and/or gender identity by the child. For many parents, this is an event that causes a breakdown of previous schemes of action, a gradual loss of control, and suffering. The empirical data consist of autobiographical narratives of parents of people with non-normative sexual orientation and/or gender identity. The study involved mothers and fathers residing throughout Poland, who were selected according to the snowball procedure. The data were collected through the narrative interview technique and compiled according to the analytical procedure proposed by Fritz Schütze, which is part of the interpretative research paradigm. In the course of four parallel biographical processes (contextualizing, coming to terms, reconstituting identity, and recasting biography), the new experience is integrated into the biography, its consequences are understood and accepted, a coherent identity is reconstituted and a new course for one’s life are charted. The analysis of the narrators’ biographical work has made it possible to identify three categories that organize the course of the parents’ lives and identities—stigma, normalization, and activism.

Narażenie ludzi na utrzymujący się wysoki poziom stresu może wywoływać wiele konsekwencji zdrowotnych. Spowodowane jest to przede wszystkim tym, że człowiek nie jest przygotowany lub nie ma odpowiedniego wsparcia czy umiejętności do radzenia sobie z postawionymi przed nim wymaganiami. Prowadzi to do tego, że narastające problemy nie zostają na czas rozwiązane, a człowiek znajduje się w stanie wysokiego napięcia emocjonalnego. Następuje pobudzenie całego układu wewnętrznego jego organizmu, co powodować może wystąpienie wielu chorób. Ze względu na problemy z radzeniem sobie z trudnymi lub nowymi zadaniami w pracy obniża się poczucie własnej wartości, co niekorzystnie może wpływać zarówno na pracownika, jak i na pracodawcę, a co z kolei odbija się na całej organizacji. Stąd też celem niniejszego artykułu jest prezentacja wyników badań dotyczących zjawiska wypalenia zawodowego opartych na analizie wybranej literatury przedmiotu.
Constantly exposing individuals to high levels of stress can have a lot of health consequences. This is mainly caused by an individual not being correctly prepared, or due to the lack of appropriate support or skills required, in order to cope with requests or demands. This leads to growing problems not being solved soon enough, and the person ends up in a state of high emotional tension. All internal bodily systems become exhausted, which can result in illness and diseases. Due to problems coping with difficult or new tasks at work, self-esteem is lowered, which can adversely affect both the employee and the employer, which in turn affects the entire workplace. For that reason, the aim of this article is to communicate the research results of the professional burnout phenomenon, based on the analysis of selected literature concerning the subject.

Celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie indywidualnych znaczeń, jakie menedżerowie międzynarodowych korporacji nadają własnym doświadczeniom szkolnym i pozaszkolnym w procesie kreowania swoich karier zawodowych. W pierwszej części autor przedstawia wybrane uwarunkowania rozwoju indywidualnych karier zawodowych we współczesnych organizacjach opartych na wiedzy. Jednym z istotnych warunków rozwoju satysfakcjonującej kariery zawodowej jest zbudowanie, opartych na partnerstwie, podmiotowych relacji w środowisku pracy zawodowej. W dalszej części zostały opisane założenia metodologiczne projektu badań jakościowych przeprowadzonych w grupie menedżerów korporacji międzynarodowych. Punktem wyjścia dokonanej analizy wypowiedzi badanych jest ich podział na wyszczególnione w projekcie badawczym kategorie. Kryterium podziału menedżerów stanowią różnice w indywidualnym odczuwaniu relacji podmiotowych w pracy zawodowej. Analizie poddane zostały sposoby postrzegania przez badanych swoich własnych doświadczeń szkolnych i pozaszkolnych przede wszystkim w kontekście kre-owania się indywidualnych gotowości do tworzenia relacji podmiotowych w późniejszej pracy zawodowej. Najistotniejsze okazały się jednak różnice w znaczeniach, jakie tym doświadczeniom przypisują menedżerowie reprezentujący poszczególne kategorie oraz różnie postrzegany wpływ tych doświadczeń na przebieg indywidualnej kariery zawodowej i jej obecny kształt.
The aim of the article is to present the individual meanings that managers of international corporations give to their own school and out-of-school experiences in the process of creating their professional careers. In the first part the author presents some chosen conditions for the development of individual professional careers in modern knowledge-based organizations. One of the important conditions for developing one’s professional career is creating, based on partnership, subjective relationships between the employee and the organization. The methodological assumptions of the qualitative research project in a group of managers of international corporations have been described in the next part of the text. The starting point for the analysis of the respondents’ narratives is their division into three, specified in the research project, categories. The division criterions are the differences in the individual feeling of the subjectivity at professional work. The author has also analyzed the ways in which the managers perceive their own school and out-of-school experiences in the context of creating individual readiness to form subjective professional relationships. The differences in meanings which are assigned to their own experiences by the managers belonging to particular categories seem to be of great importance. As well as the differences in perception of the influence of such experiences on the process of creating individual careers and their current forms.

Post-akcesyjna emigracja Polaków do bogatszych krajów Unii Europejskiej przyniosła dotkliwe straty demograficzne dla Polski. Ponad 2-milionowa rzesza ludzi zdolnych do pracy nie kwapi się do powrotu do ojczyzny. W tym samym czasie statystyki urodzeń po spektakularnym spadku w stosunku do początku lat 90-tych utrzymują swój katastrofalny trend. Wymienione trendy demograficzne przedstawiają niezwykle groźny dla Polski scenariusz na przyszłość. Oficjalne szacunki mówią, że w 2050 roku liczba ludności w Polsce osiągnie poziom 32-36 milionów przy jednoczesnym znaczącym pogorszeniu się jej struktury wiekowej. I właśnie teraz, od 2014 roku, obserwujemy bezprecedensowy napływ ludności ukraińskiej do Polski. Na chwilę obecną szacunki wskazują na liczbę około 1 miliona obywateli Ukrainy, przebywających w Polsce legalnie i nielegalnie. Ich liczba ciągle wzrasta. Autor niniejszego opracowania stara się przedstawić istotne dane, przydatne dla dalszych rozważań w przedmiotowej kwestii.
The accession to EU in 2004 has initiated the unprecedented in the Polish newest history mass emigration to the Western Europe – far beyond 2 millions of our countrymen reside temporary out of our state borders. Growing tendency is permanent, emigrants do not want return to the homeland. At the same time the total fertility rate in Poland decreased dramatically in comparison to the beginning of the economic transition period (beginning of the nineties). These demographic tendencies represent a serious threat for the future of Poland. Official forecasts suggest that in the year 2050 the population in Poland will decrease to the level between 32 and 36 million of people and its age structure will be highly unfavorable. And now, since the year 2014, we witness the unexpected new migration trend on the Ukraine-Poland direction. The estimates point that today about 1 million Ukrainians reside legally or illegally on the Polish territory and their number raises. Wzrost wymagań wobec pracowników, spowodowany szybkim rozwojem nowych technologii, procesami globalizacyjnymi czy rozwojem gospodarki opartej na wiedzy i równocześnie funkcjonowanie pracowników w warunkach braku poczucia bezpieczeństwa pracy, przyczynił się do powstania takich negatywnych zjawisk, jak pracoholizm czy wypalenie zawodowe. Zjawiska te przyczyniają się do zaburzeń równowagi między życiem zawodowym a prywatnym przejawiających się zaniedbywaniem życia osobistego na rzecz pracy. Prowadzą one do utraty zdrowia, konfliktów domowych i braku zadowolenia z życia, a część osób, by móc poświęcać się pracy, odkłada na później decyzje dotyczące zakładania i powiększania rodziny.
The increase of demands towards employees caused by the fast development of technology, globalization processes, development of economy based on knowledge and, at the same time, functioning of employees in the conditions of job security absence, contributed to such phenomena such as workaholism or professional burn-out. These phenomena contribute to a dysfunction of balance between working and private life, which can be seen in the context of neglecting private life in favour of work. They lead to health loss, domestic conflicts and lack of life satisfaction. Moreover, in order to devote themselves to work, some people postpone the decision of setting up and expanding their families.
