Opis:
Since the earliest age, each man plays various interrelated and coexisting roles in their family, social and professional life. Individual roles are realised simultaneously or sequentially and remain in relationship. Each role may complement, expand or disturb the course of a career in life. Undoubtedly, family/personal life and work are the key areas of human life. One cannot treat both these areas as independent of each other. There exists a continuous spillover between them – a natural, dynamic process developing over the entire course of human life. The effective integration of the spheres of work and family functioning is conditioned by many factors. On the basis of the literature, we can divide the determinants of the integration of these two roles into two categories: environmental, resulting, for instance, from the specific nature of the workplace or organization, the roles fulfilled, and the profession; individual, which can be associated with the properties of the individual, such as gender, age, education, children, or the status of the relationship, or they may result from the structure of the personality and the mental properties of the individual, such as motivation, values, level of commitment, mental health, physical health, etc. One of the crucial elements in the process of balancing work and family roles is the personality. The research on this issue indicates that among the dimensions of personality that have particular importance are neuroticism and extraversion, which significantly affect the direction and quality of the spillover between these two spheres of functioning. The aim of presented study was verify personality predictors of work-life balance among women. The survey involved 160 women with the various education, working professionally and possessing the least one child.

Subject and purpose of work: This study was designed in order to examine domestic practices of local female academics and to determine to what extent and how these practices affect business life. Materials and methods: In the research phenomenological research design, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. The study group of the research consisted of 20 female faculty members from Turkey. Results: Within the scope of the research, it was concluded that female academics, like other women in the society, undertake a series of gender role-based responsibilities. Conclusions: The results of the research reveal that even women who belong to a profession that requires a high level of education and shows a status in the society, such as academics, take on more responsibilities in home life than their male colleagues. This result also proves that education and status factors are not sufficient to invalidate gender roles and social patriarchy.

Presented article analyzes the sources of conflict between the family role and the professional role. The article is focused on the sources of conflict between work and family. The possibility of interference between these two roles should be closely investigated and better understood. Despite that in some cases the lines between professional and family life tend to blur, both of these types of life still have different roles and requirements. The article is an investigation of attainable literature and studies regarding the subject. The empirical investigation imply that the conflict of roles starts when the time committed to the requirements of one of them makes it difficult to meet the requirements of the other. Even though lately the number of investigations of this subject has grown, the results are still differentiated and sometimes even self-contradictory. The comparison of the results of different investigators showed that the work-family and family-work conflicts are positively correlated which indicates mutual strengthening and necessity of searching for common and individual causes that condition their coexistence, domination and strength. The received results are consistent with the results of many other studies, whose authors tried to indicate that each of these conflicts could have specific causes and course.

The aim of this paper is to indicate directions of changes in modern families along with their consequences for functioning of the family system and, most importantly, to address difficulties in parental cooperation. Theoretical analysis is preceded by a review of existing, mostly international, research in this field. Three categories of family situations, in which problems and conflicts among parents may arise, are analyzed: divorce and separation, reconstructed families, and families where both spouses work what may trigger work- family type of conflicts. Difficulties in family functioning and playing parental roles, effects of unconstructively resolved conflicts among parents are considered in detail. These three categories of family situations have been selected for investigation because they are often connected with problems in parental cooperation.

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to analyze the role of general and occupational stress in the relationship between workaholism (recognized in two ways: as addiction and as behavioral tendency) and the intensity of work-family and familywork conflict. Materials and Methods: The study included 178 working people. The survey was conducted at three stages - half a year before a holiday, right after the holiday and half a year after the holiday. The Excessive Work Involvement Scale (SZAP) by Golińska for the measurement of workaholism recognized as addiction; The Scale of Workaholism as Behavioral Tendencies (SWBT) by Mudrack and Naughton as adapted by Dudek et al for the measurement of workaholism as behavioral tendency; the Perceived Stress Scale by Cohen et al., as adapted by Juczyński for the measurement of general stress; the Scale of Occupational Stress by Stanton in the adaptation of Dudek and Hauk for measurement of occupational stress; the Scale of Work-Family Conflict WFC/FWC by Netemeyer et al. with the Polish adaptation of A.M. Zalewska. Workaholism was measured once - before a holiday, the explained and intervening variables (the level of conflicts and stress, respectively) were measured at three stages. To test the mediating role of general and occupational stress, hierarchical regression analysis as well as the method of bootstrapping were applied. Results and Conclusions: Our results indicate that general stress is an important mediator of the relationship between workaholism recognized as an addiction and work-family conflicts. Occupational stress turned out to be the only mediator in the relationship between workaholism (recognized as an addiction) and the work-family conflict, noted exclusively in the first stage of the study. Both general and occupational stress were not significant mediators in the relationship between workaholism recognized as a behavioral tendency and the conflicts described.

BackgroundTurnover rates among nurses are much higher than in other professions. This poses a challenge for health managers in all countries. The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors affecting nurses’ turnover and the differences in this area between Iran and Poland.Material and MethodsIn this descriptive cross-sectional study, the population consisted of nurses working in state-owned hospitals in Poland (N = 165) and in Iran (N = 200). Data were collected using the Turnover Intention Scale, the Job Satisfaction Scale, the Work–Family Conflict Scale and the Workplace Support Scale. Use was made of the AMOS 24 and SPSS 22 software for data analysis.ResultsThe results showed that the predicted factors of nurses’ turnover intention in Poland and Iran were different. Workplace support and job satisfaction can reduce turnover intention among Polish nurses while the work–family conflict influences nurses’ turnover intention in Iran.ConclusionsProviding a flexible work plan in Iranian hospitals and enhancing teamwork and improving the spirit of cooperation in Polish hospitals could reduce nurses’ turnover intention in these 2 countries.

Objectives This study aimed at investigating cross-sectional relationships between psychosocial characteristics of work and presenteeism in a sample of Belgian middle-aged workers. Material and Methods Data were collected from 1372 male and 1611 female workers in the Belstress III study. Psychosocial characteristics assessed by the use of self-administered questionnaires were: job demands, job control, social support, efforts, rewards, bullying, home-to-work conflict and work-to-home conflict. Presenteeism was measured using a single item question, and it was defined as going to work despite illness at least 2 times in the preceding year. Logistic regression models were used to investigate the relationship between psychosocial characteristics and presenteeism, while adjusting for several socio-demographic, health-related variables and neuroticism. An additional analysis in a subgroup of workers with good self-rated health and low neuroticism was conducted. Results The prevalence of presenteeism was 50.6%. Overall results, adjusted for major confounders, revealed that high job demands, high efforts, low support and low rewards were associated with presenteeism. Furthermore, a significant association could be observed for both bullying and work-to-home conflict in relation to presenteeism. The subgroup analysis on a selection of workers with good self-rated health and low neuroticism generally confirmed these results. Conclusions Both job content related factors as well as work contextual psychosocial factors were significantly related to presenteeism. These results suggest that presenteeism is not purely driven by the health status of a worker, but that psychosocial work characteristics also play a role.

There is no doubt that today professional roles and family life are interpenetrating spheres. The aim of the study was to analyze the relationship between work-family conflict (WFC) and family-work conflict (FWC) as well as emotional intelligence and self-esteem in the group of people employed in managerial positions. Participants were 217 managers (102 women and 115 men). Role conflict has been measured with a Polish version of a questionnaire “Work-Family and Family-Work Conflict Scales” Netemeyer, Boles, McMurrian; emotional intelligence has been measured with Polish “Test of Emotional Intelligence” (TIE) Śmieja and others; self-esteem has been measured with a Polish adaptation of a “Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale—SES” Dzwonkowska and others. Self-esteem coexists with emotional intelligence of the subjects and is an intermediary variable, mediating in relation to emotional intelligence with role conflicts. The research results show that there are no correlations between role conflicts and the age of the managers, their seniority and the number of directly subordinate employees.

The aim of the paper is to present determinants of work-family conflict for working men and women in Poland. Two types of such conflict were studied – from work to family and from family to work. Due to the fact that mostly parents are exposed for those types of conflict, the analysis is restricted to men and women with children up to 14 years old. The analysis is conducted separately for men and women since differences in division of duties in families may result in differences in determinants of work-family conflict. We are interested in the influence of workplace and family characteristics on both types of conflict. The model analysis is based on data from the second wave of the Gender and Generations Survey for Poland. We conclude that in Poland both types of conflict exist, but the intensity of work-family conflict is bigger than family-work conflict. In case of each type of conflict, its intensity is similar for men and women, but the determinants of those types of conflict vary across gender.

Opis:
Wstęp Celem badania było poznanie związku między upodmiotowieniem strukturalnym a dopasowaniem sfery rodzinnej i zawodowej wśród pielęgniarek. Upodmiotowienie strukturalne to strategia zarządzania poprzez dostarczenie pracownikom możliwości, informacji, zasobów i wsparcia niezbędnych do efektywnego wykonywania obowiązków służbowych. Materiał i metody Badaniami objęto 159 pielęgniarek zatrudnionych w szpitalach. W badaniu wykorzystano polską wersję Kwestionariusza Warunków Efektywności Pracy oraz Kwestionariusz Dopasowania Pracy i Rodziny. Do analizy wyników wykorzystano hierarchiczną analizę regresji liniowej. Wyniki Wyniki badań potwierdzają istnienie związku między upodmiotowieniem strukturalnym a dopasowaniem sfery rodzinnej i zawodowej wśród pielęgniarek. W środowisku szpitalnym, charakteryzującym się wysokim stopniem upodmiotowienia, pielęgniarki odczuwają niższy poziom konfliktu praca–rodzina i wyższy poziom facylitacji w obu kierunkach. Med. Pr. 2016;67(6):787–800
Background The goal of the study was to investigate the relationship between structural empowerment and work–family fit in Polish nurses. Structural empowerment is a strategy for managing by providing the employees with opportunities, information, support and resources essential for the effective performance of work duties. Work–family fit takes 2 forms of relationships between these 2 spheres: conflict (functioning in one role is more difficult because of participation in the other role) and facilitation (fulfilling the duties associated with one role enriches filling up the other role). Material and Methods A total of 159 nurses employed in hospitals took part in the study. The Polish versions of the Conditions of Work Effectiveness Questionnaire and the Work–Family Fit Questionnaire were used. Hierarchical linear regression analysis was applied for data analysis. Results The results show statistically signifficant relationships between structural empowerment and work–family fit in nurses. In the hospital environment, characterized by a high degree of empowerment, nurses experience a lower level of work–family conflict and a higher level of facilitation in both directions. Conclusions Hospital management strategy based on structural empowerment of nurses favors reconciliation of professional and family roles. Therefore, it is important for hospitals to create appropriate working conditions that allow nurses to effectively deal with demands arising from work and family spheres. Med Pr 2016;67(6):787–800

The boundary between work and family life is now almost invisible, making the search for a balance between both spheres a dilemma and challenge. These concerns have led to a growing increase in studies on work-family and family-work conflict, their predictors, and their effects. This study aims to: 1) observe the predictive effect of work-family conflict (WFC) and family-work conflict (FWC) on work-family guilt (WFG) and family-work guilt (FWG), respectively; and 2) to observe the effect of WFC, FWC, WFG and FWG on satisfaction with life and job satisfaction. In a sample of 213 participants aged between 22 and 64 years (M = 41.77; SD = 6.63), the results show that, in contrast with expectations, WFG and FWG did not prove to be predictors; only WFC and FWC had a negative effect on both guilt and satisfaction with life and job satisfaction. The family work interface is a topic that is extremely important, not only for organizations but also for society. Therefore, the study of its implications on variables is considered essential for the promotion of positive functioning of individuals.

Opis:
The adult under the pressure of demands to function in two life domains: work and family There is a growing number of men and women engaged in work and family roles. This article describes linkages between the work-family interface and individual, family and work outcomes: life satisfaction, marital satisfaction, individual psychologicall well-being, job stress. Recent studies on the work-family interface have focused on the scarcity perspective, which posits that engaging in multiple roles results in interrole conflict when participation in one role is made more difficult by virtue of participation in the other role. Other studies support the facilitation or enhancement hypothesis which suggests, that participation in one role is made better or easier by virtue of participation in the other role. The aim of this research is to present a research project studying the work-family questionnaire (Grzywacz, Bass, 2003) assessing work-family conflict, work-family facilitation, family-work conflict, family-work facilitation:to analyze both the conflict and facilitation dimensions and both directions of influence: work to family and family to work in dual-earner couples,to examine the relation of conflict and facilitation to life satisfaction, marital satisfaction and other indicators of mental health. The subjects in this research are 80 married couples living in dual-earner families in Poland, who have at least one child under 12.Measures used in this study:Work-Family Fit Questionnaire (Grzywacz, Bass, 2003) in Polish version adopted by Lachowska (2005),Job characteristics assessed through a questionnaire developed by Dudek at al. (1999),General Health Questionnaire (Goldberg, 1978),Marital Satisfaction Scale (Olson, Fowers, 1993),Satisfaction with Life Scale (Diener at al., 1993).
