Opis:
A new configuration of rectifier suiting CMOS technology is presented. The rectifier consists of only two n-channel MOS transistors, two capacitors and two resistors; for this reason it is very favourable in manufacturing in CMOS technology. With these features the rectifier is easy to design and cheap in production. Despite its simplicity, the rectifier has relatively good characteristics, the voltage and power efficiency, and bandwidth greater than 89%, 87%, and 1 GHz, respectively. The performed simulations and measurements of a prototype circuit fully confirmed its correct operation and advantages.

Opis:
Photovoltaic (PV) technology is an attractive power source for systems with no wired connections to any network. Because of seasonal variations of solar irradiation, designing such a system requires careful analysis in order to provide required level of reliability. In this paper we present results of 16-month measurements of experimental PV system located in Poland. Obtained irradiation values have been verified with reference data from independent sources. The results of this work may be helpful in forecasting the performance of similar PV systems in the same region and allow to make more precise forecasts of power system performance than based only on average monthly irradiation tables.

The article presents the prospects for application of wireless power supply in electronic devices. A short description of advantages of using this technology including the principle of its operation and construction of typical systems applied in devices of everyday use was provided. Two types of resonance systems used for wireless transmission of energy were presented. Also, advantages and disadvantages of using each of these systems were listed. Furthermore, the impedance and performance analyses of the wireless electric energy transmission systems were discussed. The performance characteristics were presented depending on several parameters in the three–dimensional form. The minimum quality factor of the resonance system, which allows the achievement of the high system performance at low interface between the primary and secondary coil winding was demonstrated. Two tested circuits were compared and the areas of application were determined for each of them. Difficulties related to maintenance of the circuit in resonance and to limitation of losses were determined.

Opis:
Over the past few years, interest and research in wireless power transfer (WPT) have been rapidly incrementing, and as an effect, this is a remarkable technology in many electronic devices, electric vehicles and medical devices. However, most of the applications have been limited to very close distances because of efficiency concerns. Even though the inductive power transfer technique is becoming relatively mature, it has not shown near-field results more than a few metres away transmission. This review is focused on two fundamental aspects: the power efficiency and the transmission distance in WPT systems. Introducing the principles and the boundaries, scientific articles will be reviewed and discussed in terms of their methods and respective challenges. This paper also shows more important results in efficiency and distance obtained, clearly explaining the theory behind and obstacles to overcome. Furthermore, an overlook in other aspects and the latest research studies for this technology will be given. Moreover, new issues have been raised including safety and security.

Powering therapeutic devices plays a crucial role in the design phase of implantable electronic units. Batteries could not provide sufficient charge storage, used for the lifetime of the device, considering the space available for them. As sophisticated surgical procedures are required with the possible trauma to the patient such as material discrepancy and tissue damage, replacement is quite risky and not an option. Thus, therapeutic devices, especially visual prostheses, receive power wirelessly through inductive coil links which are connected to a battery outside the body. An inductive link is based on the main principle that there are two components such as primary and secondary units. Although primary unit includes the battery outside the body, power transmitter, and control unit, secondary unit under the skin contains amplifier, rectifier regulators, and power control unit. In this study, an inductive coil link is modelled to evaluate fundamental design specifications for visual prostheses. Inductive coil link parameters are quantitatively investigated so that maximum power transfer efficiency and miniaturization, which are critically important for electronics placed in intraocular region, are provided. Considering 20 mm distance, it is concluded that the separation and the size of the coil pair, loop diameter, frequency have a major role to determine the system performance.

Opis:
Bidirectional Inductive power transfer (IPT) systems behave as high order resonant networks and hence are highly sensitive to changes in system parameters. Traditional PID controllers often fail to maintain satisfactory power regulation in the presence of parametric uncertainties. To overcome these problems, this paper proposes a robust controller which is designed using linear matrix inequality (LMI) techniques. The output sensitivity to parametric uncertainty is explored and a linear fractional transformation of the nominal model and its uncertainty is discussed to generate a standard configuration for μ-synthesis and LMI analysis. An H∞ controller is designed based on the structured singular value and LMI feasibility analysis with regard to uncertainties in the primary tuning capacitance, the primary and pickup inductors and the mutual inductance. Robust stability and robust performance of the system is studied through μ-synthesis and LMI feasibility analysis. Simulations and experiments are conducted to verify the power regulation performance of the proposed controller.

Opis:
We present a procedure for system identification and tuning of a wireless power transfer (WPT) system with four magnetically coupled resonators, where each resonator consists of a coil and a capacitor bank. The system-identification procedure involves three main steps: 1) individual measurement of the capacitor banks in the system; 2) measurement of the frequency-dependent two-port impedance matrix of the magnetically coupled resonators; and 3) determining the inductance of all coils and their corresponding coupling coefficients using a Bayesian approach. The Bayesian approach involves solving an optimization problem where we minimize the mismatch between the measured and simulated impedance matrix together with a penalization term that incorporates information from a direct measurement procedure of the inductance and losses of the coils. This identification procedure yields an accurate system model which we use to tune the four capacitance values to recover high system-performance and account for, e.g., manufacturing tolerances and coil displacement. For a prototype WPT system, we achieve 3.3 kW power transfer with 91% system efficiency over an air-gap distance of approximately 20 cm.

Opis:
The paper discusses issues related to the recycling of electrochemical sources of electricity such as portable batteries and accumulators. Based on the reports of the Chief Inspectorate of Environmental Protection, the collection rate of waste batteries and accumulators in Poland for the years 2010-2018 was subjected to analysis. Despite the increasing year-to-year percentage value of the collection rate, it has been demonstrated that a significant mass of batteries and accumulators is still not recycled. This article presents a method of reducing the amount of waste electrochemical energy storages, through the use of inductive power supplies. The idea of the operation of such circuits has been discussed and the Qi Wireless Charging standard, applicable since 2011, has been characterised. As an example of a device with wireless power supply, a computer indicator system has been provided. Tests have been carried out and the correctness of operation of this solution has been verified. It has been demonstrated that in some cases it is possible to resign from power supplies based on batteries or accumulators, and use wireless power supplies instead, without degrading the functional properties of devices. Solutions of this type may contribute to the protection of the natural environment.

Opis:
With the development of wireless power transfer technology, more and more attention has been paid to its electromagnetic safety. In this paper, a novel hybrid shielding structure composed of the innermost fan-shaped ferrite, the interlayer nanocrystalline stripand the outermost aluminum foil is proposed to shield the electromagnetic field of the inductive power transfer system. Eight structure parameters of the proposed shielding areoptimized by finite element simulation, in order to reduce the magnetic leakage of the system and improve the utilization rate of shielding materials. In addition, the proposed structure is compared with two types of typical double-layer hybrid shielding from the perspectives of the weight, the coupling coefficient and the magnetic flux leakage. Both simulation and experiment results show that the cost and weight of the proposed shield are about 60% lower than the traditional disk shield. More over, the shielding layer proposed in this paper can not only effectively reduce the magnetic flux leakage of the system, but also maintain a high coupling coefficient.

A prototype of a DSP-based instrument for in-service transmitter power measurements is presented. The instrument implements a signal-selective algorithm for power measurements that is suitable for use in wireless environments, where possible uncontrolled interfering sources are present in the radio channel and are overlapped to the signal emitted by the transmitter under test, possibly in both time and frequency domain. The measurement method exploits the principles of cyclic spectral analysis, which are briefly recalled in the paper. Potentialities, as well as limitations of the prototype use are discussed, and the results of experiments with both modulated and unmodulated interfering sources are presented.
